LUNCH ALERT! Swung by Small Town BBQ in Friendsville, TN--and let us tell you, the smoked chicken wrap hit the spot! Juicy, smoky, and packed with flavor. And those beef tallow fries? Next level. Golden, crispy, and loaded with rich flavor. If you're rollin' through East Tennessee, make sure this local gem is on your foodie map. Support small, eat big. If you're showing up at noon, it made from scratch. Friendsville, TN #SmallTownBBQ #EastTennesseeEats #BBQLovers #SmokedChicken #TallowFries #SupportLocal #FriendsvilleTN #LunchGoals

Oh My Goodness!! Best BBQ I have EVER had!!! I got pulled pork with coleslaw slaw and beans. They had a bunch of different sauces to put on your meat, but I didn't need ANY! The pulled pork was so tender and the burnt ends were so crunchy and tasty!! I loved every bite!! So delicious!!! Yummmm!! I'll be back for sure!!

Y'all!!! Hands Down my favorite BBQ around! Tasty, mouthwatering, smoked deliciousness, they've certainly figured it out. In the heart of Friendsville, just a short drive from Knoxville, this cute little place will knock your socks off with flavor. Locally owned, Chef James, is what I would call a smoke pit master. I have never had a bad meal here. My favorite thing on the menu right now is his smoked chicken salad wrap, it's so freaking good. Topped with a chicken sauce, stuffed with lettuce tomato and sweet & spicy pickles, YUM! My mouth is watering as I write this review. I literally love everything here, the smoked pulled pork, the smoked chicken, the smoked bologna, the ribs, the smash burgers etc, the list could go on forever! OMG and please try that burrito, it's HUGE but oh so good! I usually have to take half home. Don't even get me started on the variety of barbecue sauces he has, I love every single one! LOVE LOVE LOVE, and I am that saucy person! They are very active on Facebook so you can see his daily specials along with pictures of what you would be eating. They also offer catering so if you have an event coming up just ask them. If you haven't tried this place out then you need to get off your hiny and drive out there and eat some delicious BBQ. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. I hope you love this place as much as I do! Cheers and Enjoy!

The name says it all. As soon as you walk in, the smell of barbecue takes over. A friendly small town smile and hello greets you. Service was fast and easy. The food was next level for a small town. A definite small town gem!

Legit pulled pork bbq, inventive scratch-made daily specials, and friendly service. Really cool old mercantile building. If they had a bar, it would push it over the top. Highly recommend - have been twice in 4 days

SmashCity wasn't far off of the interstate, it had good ratings and although we'd been eating burgers and fries quite a bit on this roadtrip, a good burger and fries really sounded good. All of the reviews were right on - this was absolutely NOT fast food - it was fast, really fast, but the speed was just bonus. As we usually do, we split. We chose the Carolina BBQ smash. The burgers were juicy - if you're not careful, I guarantee you'll be wearing it. Two critiques, it definitely needed more sauce - I just added some of the SmashCity sauce from our fries and it worked but I really would have liked to have had more BBQ sauce. Second, the fried onions were quite burned. I pulled off most of them. The hand cut fries were piping hot, just the right amount of greasy and seasoned perfectly. Splitting the burger was a good call - I'd never have eaten the whole thing myself. The burger and fries were just over $20. When you consider a Big Mac meal at that clown place is $14, SmashCity is almost a bargain. Paul, the owner was like the energizer bunny - he was everywhere at once. Personality oozed from his pores. Make sure you tell him Sue said hi! (He won't remember me but just say hi anyway!) Now I wouldn't say SmashCity has the best burgers - that award goes to our friend Jerry. He makes a pretty mean smash burger on the blackstone. If you have an extra half hour, skip the fast food burger joints, get off that highway, and go let Paul fill your belly for the rest of your trip! You'll appreciate it!

We pulled into the parking lot, and I could hear my compadre, RIP, say to me, ' Si está ocupado, va a ser bueno." If its busy, its going to be good. The parking lot was full and the inside of the restaurant was busy. We walked in and our Mom who was a teenager during the 50's loved the decor and signage and my brother immediately gravitated towards the pinball machines. We sat down at a booth. The booths are a little tight if you're tall and have had a couple of cheeseburgers over the years. The good news is that the table is moveable Our server Finch was delightful. By the way, it was her Birthday on the day we were there and even though she was working on her Birthday, she was still having a lot of fun. The regular menu is HUGE. I'm not talking Cheesecake Factory HUGE, I'm talking about triple that...... There's about 50 different burgers and I'm probably missing some. There's burger with a fried bologna slice and american cheese There's a burger with Military Chow The menu is clear to understand but there's an overwhelming amount of choices. I didn't see the vegan menu in the regular menu so I politely asked Finch for the vegan menu, and she skipped back to me with it. Wow - A lot of choices as well. Hot Rod's uses Beyond Meat for some of their burgers but they also custom craft their veggie burgers. The vegan cheese on my burger was most likely Follow Your Heart or Violife, but it was properly melted. The Beyond Burger was a frozen slab without any seasoning but cooked through. I would have preferred some seasoning but hey - I'm not going to knock it. The portion of fries is massive. The vegan ranch is Follow Your Heart and was a nice dipping sauce for the fries. My brother had a buffalo chicken sandwich and my mom had the reuben. We all shared the vegan banana split. Hot Rod 50's Diner as stated by another Yelp reviewer may be the best diner in the United States.

It has a real down home feel. The place offers burgers (Mushroom Swiss, BBQ Burger), sandwiches (Cheesesteaks, Reuben, BLT, Chicken Sandwiches with Ranch/Buffalo options), and hearty baskets with fried chicken, cod, or shrimp, plus breakfast served all day, desserts (chocolate pie!), and options like pork chops or steak. They have someone thing for everyone. Everything is cooked to ordered. We started off with deep fried deviled eggs. My wife had the Beef Stroganoff. While I had the House Smash Burger. The stroganoff is served in a wide, shallow bowl that showcases the sauce's glossy sheen and the generous scatter of sautéed mushrooms. Steam carries a rounded, savory bouquet: beef-forward notes, toasty browned butter, and the faint acid of a finishing touch -- likely a splash of vinegar, wine, or lemon -- that hints the sauce will be bright rather than cloying. The presentation is simple and effective: no unnecessary frills, just clear evidence that plate composition exists to showcase the food's strengths. The sauce is the star: a glossy, velvety emulsion built on a brown stock backbone, enriched with sour cream (or a light cultured cream), and tempered with mustard and a touch of acidity. The mushrooms are properly caramelized, offering an earthy counterpoint and slight chew that complements the tender beef. Onions are present but not intrusive; garlic and a whisper of thyme or parsley frame the dish without flattening the primary flavors. Chubby's pairs the stroganoff with broad egg noodles -- they're al dente-yielding and capture the sauce in their folds, which makes each mouthful a composed, layered bite rather than separate elements awkwardly forced together. The Smash Burger was an equal masterpiece as well. In an era when burgers can feel formulaic and predictable, the SMASH Triple Burger with Chubby Sauce at Chubby's Restaurant stands out not just as a meal, but as a culinary statement, mine was constructed of three thin-pressed beef patties -- each seared to achieve that iconic lace of caramelization -- deliver an intoxicating aroma of grilled beef that primes the palate for something special. The smash technique here isn't a gimmick; it's a masterstroke that intensifies the beef's flavor while maintaining juiciness through every layer, a testament to precise heat management on the griddle. The Chubby Sauce, a house specialty that earns its name with rich, tangy complexity, serves as the burger's soul. It marries creamy umami with a whisper of sweetness and a balanced acidity that cuts through the savory heft of the triple stack. This sauce is not merely a condiment -- it's the architectural glue that binds texture and taste, elevating each bite into a chorus of complementary notes. What makes this experience remarkable was how it balances bold indulgence with thoughtful restraint: the trio of patties makes a statement, yet the burger never feels overwhelmingly heavy. Each layer interacts harmoniously, and the Chubby Sauce is nothing short of inspired -- tangy yet creamy, bold yet nuanced. We topped it all off with pie. My wife had the peanut butter while I opted for the Apple pie was our desert. Dessert at Chubby's often arrives with the quiet confidence of a house specialty, and the both the Apple & Peanut Butter Pie is no exception. If you think you've had every version of apple pie, this one will surprise you. Chubby's Apple Pie is warm, comforting, and brilliantly balanced. The apples are tender and spiced just right, the crust is buttery and flaky. The peanut butter pie has a subtle, savory richness that keeps the dessert from being overly sweet. It's indulgent without being heavy and memorable in the best way. An absolute must-order if you save room for dessert. This was a great dining experience and in a tourist dominated area, this place stands out as real down home cooking that your grandmother made. Highly recommend, this is one the most stop sites if you are in the area.
