I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about Smoke Chemistry but got a chance to give them a try this past Memorial weekend. Apparently, now they charge for valet which is $15 or $20 - this was NOT the case a month ago according to my friend. That was the first red flag! Places that become "popular" but have horrible parking situations eventually turn around & monetize off of it. Upon entering, we were asked if we had reservations. We stated no, so she proceeded to tell us that tables are reservation only but that we can sit at the bar. Reservations for ALL tables is absurd. Luckily, we were able to find seats at the bar. We were immediately greeted but it took forever for everything. Took about 15 mins before a straw even hit my lip & I had to flag another bartender down to ask again for a water, which takes 3 seconds to pour. The service took so long I had my whole order ready about time Zach got back to us - keep in mind this was my first & I'm pretty sure my last visit. I ordered the lamb chops which the menu said came with two sides for $36, a Lab Coat for $16 & a side of Elote which I thought was $6. Apparently the QR code we scanned & the menu on their own website are old menus because the receipt showed VERY different numbers. The receipt shows I was charged: $36 for 3 lamb chops & mashed potatoes, $7.28 for a CUP OF GREENS, $8.32 for a CUP OF ELOTE, & $16 for the lab coat and lets not forget the automatic gratuity LOL. So my total came to $83.32 which is diabolical. I have been to a lot of upscale places & paid the same price if not more for way better service & food. The lamb chops were 8/10, the greens 2/10 I have never had any greens like theirs & thats not a compliment by any means. It tasted like the greens were soaked in some gumbo roux it was just off. The elote 7/10 - not the best I've had but passable. The best part was for sure the mashed potatoes 10/10! I enjoyed the Lab Coat & the lab glass it came in, it was a nice touch. Overall, the ambiance gave grown & sexy as expected - perfect for a date night or ladies/guys night out but everything else I would pass on. The vibe is definitely one of the highlights--nice atmosphere, dim lighting, and it feels like a good spot to relax or catch up with friends. The spinach dip with the toasted bread was actually really good--creamy, hot, and probably one of the better items we had. Drinks were on point. Even though the bar wasn't crowded, it took about 10 minutes before anyone checked in for a drink order, which was a bit surprising. The food itself was tasty, but it came out lukewarm. Thankfully, they remade the fries, and that really helped turn things around. My first glass of wine was sour but the bartender handled it quickly, opened a new bottle, and made sure everything was right. Overall, this place created a very fun night! I met some friends here. As I pulled into the parking area, an attendant advised that the lot was full and I had to park across the street at Walgreens. Let's be clear, a woman who is dressed nice and wearing heels is going to be uncomfortable and walking across the street. But, I'm sure there is nothing they can do about the lot. I digress. On this night, there was a lot of college alumni . I'm not sure if this was a typical night as far as crowd. The ambience is very nice with a huge bar. Happy hour was from 4-7 and there was a decent selection of drinks on the HH menu. The service was great. The bartender was short like me so we worked together to get the drinks (the chairs and bar are tall so it took a little effort to sit and reach across to retrieve the drinks). She was very friendly offer suggestions and remained attentive as the place got busy. We ordered the fried catfish and oxtail egg rolls. Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. I had the cucumber and mint elixir and the man had a Jack and Coke. I started to fill the vodka so I switched to tequila. The vibe was great and we really enjoyed ourselves. We saw several groups of ladies out to enjoy themselves, a couple solo customers and a few couples. Good mix of everything. I would definitely go back. We spent around $115. The tip was already included. I didn't know this beforehand. To me that is the only negative and my ONLY reason for 4 instead of 5 stars. We are good tippers but we like to decide how much to give. Stopped by with some friends, and I can see why this place gets mixed reviews. The music selection is decent, the drinks weren't bad, but the service needs improvement. It was very crowded on the Friday night we went, every seat was taken, so we had to wait. It got more crowded around 10:30-11:00 so there was a line at the door. That said, they don't have enough staff to handle the crowd. Hookah takes forever because only one person takes orders. We waited about 45 minutes to order, then about another 20 minutes for the hookah. Drink service was faster, but you should order your next round before finishing your current one. We also noticed some staff spending time with people they seemed to know personally, even sitting with them for a while. Note to management: Hire or train more hookah servers. Customer service is important, and having staff socialize with guests keeps them from helping others who are waiting. read more

Well, I've been to Smoke Chemistry a few times before, but after my experience on Friday night, this will definitely be my last visit. While some of the staff were kind and helpful, the night was overshadowed by a lack of basic courtesy and management accountability. As I was seated, a server forced her way through a very tight space and spilled fries on me from behind. As a server, there should be enough awareness to pause, ask guests to move, or wait until there's room rather than pushing through and causing food to be spilled on a customer. What truly stood out, however, was our male server (I hate that I didn't get his name). He immediately came over, reassured me, asked me to calm down, and let me know everything would be okay. He even brought me a drink and remained very attentive and professional the entire night. I honestly stayed because I was there celebrating my cousin's birthday, and his service made the situation more bearable. I have a lot of respect for how he handled things. What was most disappointing is that no manager ever came over to acknowledge or address the incident. That lack of response was unacceptable. Before leaving, I did see the manager, and that interaction made it clear why no one came to speak with us. Between the incident, the lack of management follow-up, and the overall crowd and atmosphere, this is no longer a place I'm interested in returning to despite the excellent service from our waiter. You receive two egg rolls that are cut in half, and while they were okay, they weren't particularly memorable. The dipping sauce was very sweet and didn't complement the egg rolls well. Changing the coals...slow Servers: Super Nice, Super Slow Food: Started out with large portions that justified the price- then the portions got smaller. Service on food EXTREMELY SLOW. Then, so items won't come out at all- they run out. I don't eat meat- but everyone in my party said the food was okay. This includes chicken, oxtail eggrolls, etc. Mixed Drinks: Okay tasting but slow to come out. And the drink menu drinks have zero consistency...depends on who is bartending. I have been four times.
