Ordered pickup so service and ambiance not considered. This is MY OPINION below…read more Had the trial smoked quail, had combo plates with brisket, pulled pork, and burnt ends. Quail was a little tough but average for a game bird. Smoke flavor was very mild if present. Seasoning was a little heavy on black pepper. Brisket was falling apart though a little on the dry side, but within acceptable limits. The bark could be considered too thick by some but I don't mind. Burnt ends were exactly that. Both the brisket and burnt ends tasted like the smoke was a little too acrid (not enough oxygen to the flame) though some folks like that. To me it gives Liquid Smoke taste. Pulled pork was tender, a touch dry without sauce but you don't want it too moist before adding sauce so I would say acceptable level. Not too smoky. The seasoning on the meats were not as complex flavored as I'd hoped, black pepper heavy but not really any heat, just kind of a "daily driver" type blend. The sauce...I was not prepared for a vinegar based sauce in South Mississippi. Think western Carolina/Lexington type. Tangy but with a little sweet tomato sauce. There was red pepper flakes in it but no heat to note. Potato salad - on the drier side, not a creamy type. Texture was fine, actual potato flavor. Tastes like extra dill was added on top of the dill relish, which I don't mind but may be too strong for some. Baked beans were present, did their job. Price was reasonable for three plates, portions were more than you'd expect these days. Food was ready at pickup time and at reasonable temp. Cash price is different from card price. All considered and among the local options for bbq I'd rank them at 2nd place.

Awesome place. Abomination Burger lives up to the great reviews. So good. Sweet potato fries are…read morealso perfect. Can't wait to come back!

I'm not sure where to begin with this review, because we very much wanted to enjoy this restaurant,…read morebut it was not a very good experience in any sense. We were in Hattiesburg for the night and found Murky Waters through their website, which indicated through their menu, photos, prices, and their suggestion that reservations should be made that this was elevated southern barbecue. It is not. Which is fine, if that's what you're serving and charging for. But here's what we got: "Smoked ahi tuna dip" = canned tuna salad ($12.95, served with Keebler Club crackers) Ham & cheese po' boy- it was just a ham and cheese sandwich on a long roll, and the roll was cold ($13.95) My son liked the brisket, but said the Mac & cheese was not good. My family got refills on their drinks, but my drink came in a smaller glass and I didn't get a refill. We all got soda, so I'm not sure why. The restaurant is pleasant, but we were seated directly in front of the window unit air conditioner so we had to decide which one of us would be the most uncomfortable while eating. The bill was over $100. After discussing it, we all felt that we would have felt better about the entire thing if the food had been more fairly represented and priced. If you go, don't order the tuna.

I recently stopped by Murky Waters BBQ in Hattiesburg and found the experience to be average…read moreoverall. The food was generally good. We tried the pulled chicken, boneless chicken bites, pulled pork sandwich, tuna dip, and macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese was easily the standout side dish--creamy, flavorful, and something I'd definitely order again. The meats were solid, but nothing particularly memorable compared to other BBQ places I've visited. The service was okay, but it felt like the restaurant may have been understaffed. Several items seemed to arrive in stages rather than together. Things like silverware, lemons for water, and other small necessities had to be brought out separately, which made the service feel a bit disorganized and slower than expected. One area that could use attention is cleanliness. The women's restroom wasn't in the best condition during our visit, and there was a restroom cleaning log posted on the door that appeared to have last been filled out in March. Whether it was simply overlooked or not, it doesn't create the best impression for customers. Overall, I'd rate the experience 3 out of 5 stars. The food was decent, especially the mac and cheese, but the service and attention to detail kept it from being a place I'd go out of my way to visit again. I've had better BBQ experiences elsewhere.
