    Burnt Ends!
    Warren B.

My wife and I are on our way to Biloxi and decided to stop in. Soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a warm smile and seated right away. The vibe in this place is cool a music themed, artwork on the walls that makes it feel like somewhere you'd wanna kick back and relax. We didn't go overboard since we were just passing through, but we split an order of the burnt ends, which came with collard greens and mac & cheese, and shared sweet tea. The burnt ends were nice, tender, and had solid flavor. I added a little sweet and spicy sauce from the table, and that did it for me. It was a slow time of day, so it was nice and quiet, real chill. Our waitress stayed on point too, made sure we had everything we needed without hovering. This wasn't a planned stop, but I'm glad we pulled in. I'll definitely be back when I've got time (and room) for a full plate.

Overall:4.5 Stars On Hardy Street in Hattiesburg but not the busy side of Hardy Street, the BBQ restaurant is in older 1900 Ranch Wooden Style Home which is quite large from the inside. Walking in through the doors, there is bar w seats and several tables before your turn to dining area with a stage for entertainment. You feel like you have been invited over a friend's place for some good BBQ and social interactions. And BOY the wonderful scent of the meats smoking on Pecan wood makes sure your mouth watery when you enter. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient during the lunch rush however it wasn't too busy. Crowded w but not stuffy. Place has seating inside and outside seating and tables that can accommodate 2-8 people. Outside is a covered patio So I got pick 2 Combo platter. Ribs and Burnt Ends w beans and coleslaw and toast. Price around $22 for the platter. 4.5 Stars Meats - the star of the show. Look at the Smokey bark on the brisket burnt ends and the pork ribs. Breakdown: 5 Stars: Burnt Ends. Perfectly cooked. Not too Smokey due to the Pecan wood used, the burnt ends are "charred" to perfection. Lean and fatty meat breaks apart tenderly. 3 Stars: Pork Ribs. I wanted to give it a higher rating but it was tough to "pull apart" the ribs and the meat were chewier than the Brisket. Bummer It was overcooked. The smoke on the bars was nice but tough to chew. I still ate it due to the seasoning. The dry rub seasoning is blended with multiple spices and herbs are evenly rubbed on the meat. 3.75 Stars: the Vinegar, Sweet and Spicy sauce. All made differently and are balance pretty well with their respective spices, sweetness and their base. I actually dipped and used all THREE sauces which is really rare for me. I normally like one variety from a restaurant. All three were wonderful Sides: 2.75 Stars on Coleslaw - lightly vinegar base w hint of mayo. Had to add the Vinegar Bbq Sauce to "tang" it up. 3.5 Stars Beans. Beans have chunks of pork fat which makes the beans more flavorful and creamy. The sauce is a little bit sweet with a slight hint of vinegar. I added some black pepper to add some spice to it. I think the sweet flavor is a molasses basedIt is good don't get me wrong. I woof it down 3.75 stars - The toast. It doesn't get a lot of respect as a side but the toast were thick, light, buttery and were roasted perfectly. A great side item to create a slider or just it by itself. I could have ate it all and then go into a food coma. However I made myself to have leftovers for tonight. Total cost w drink and combo platter, not including Tip is about $28.50 so can be an expensive meal. If there is another place in Hattiesburg you want me to visit, eat and review, send me a comment!

I got the brisket quesadilla and it was amazing. I think I like it a bit more than Strick's. They give you a lot of meat and the food was on and ready when I arrive to pick it up. I'll come back.

Better get there early cause they run out of burnt ends and ribs. This place is delicious. I had the murky water rib sandwich with fried okra and I was not disappointed. My hubby had the smoked wings with garlic fries and there wasn't a morsel left in our plates. The restaurant was clean, funky and filled with great serves and staff!

    Pulled Chicken Plate

Had some good meals in the Gulf Port location but this was not good at all. Smoked pulled chicken must have been days old, it chewed like rubber! I couldn't help but think this must be the scraps raked into a container and microwaved! Gross

We walked in and the first thing I noticed was the overwhelming smell of "smoked meat". The cashier came out and took us to our seat. He then gave me directions to the restroom. The restroom was clean. When I got back to the table he was walking up with our drinks. He asked did we want an appetizer. We ordered and he had it out shortly. When he came back we ordered our main dishes. The meats were very tender. The platter with the cheese was very delicious. The greens had a creole feel like they had been seasoned with crab boil. I would recommend.

As the popularity of burnt ends, continues to increase, they are showing up at more barbecue restaurants across the country. Murky Waters burnt ends, are cooked nicely, and they served a large portion. There as more fat on them than I would like, but they were quite tasty. My wife's pulled pork sandwich was good, but the meat was not overly flavorful. Our side orders were excellent! The collard greens were prepared perfectly. I received a large amount of the onion danglers which was good as we both loved their taste and crispness. My wife's mac and cheese initially was terrible as it was barely even warm. Cheese sprinkled on top, had not even come close to melting. We asked for it to be reheated, and when it came back, it was superb! There's a nice back patio to eat on. Oh, we didn't like the two cocktails that we had.

Murky Waters Blues & BBQ is a good place to head towards if you find yourself in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and craving barbecue. The restaurant is located in what appears to be a house. Walking in, there is a bar to one side and a small stage in a separate room. My server was decent, laid back and pointed me towards a few good recommendations. I ended up opting for the half chicken with potato salad and collard greens. The chicken was good, though a bit dry. Nothing terrible, but enough to be noticeable. The collard greens were okay, but the potato salad was definitely stellar and the star of the meal. All in all, Murky Waters Blues & BBQ is a pretty good place to head towards if you are in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and craving barbecue. The chicken was good (not great), but if you go, make sure you get the potato salad. It definitely should not be missed. Overall, I will give this restaurant four stars.

We were in town & friends recommended this place. Our waitress was great! The brisket was lean like I like it, baked beans & okra were also great. Give it a try & enjoy!

The meat was dry. The bbq sauce was good. Waitress was friendly and accommodating. The French fries were great. Over all mediocre.

My first return visit was quite pleasant and I was very surprisingly pleased as their shrimp gumbo actually tasted like gumbo which often isn't the case once you get outside of Louisiana. I also sampled their burger with a side of onion rings which was decent but the burger was more of a thin patty fast food style burger while I prefer the NOLA style thick beef patty. I made another visit to try out their poboy so I again got the shrimp gumbo along with a shrimp poboy. This visit was not as pleasant as the first as the shrimp gumbo just seemed off while the poboy was alright but the bread seemed a bit less than fresh. In NOLA poboy bread is good for one day and goes stale so then it is used to make bread pudding. The big poboy bread bakeries in NOLA have started to ship out their bread to other places and somehow have found a way to keep it fresh longer but it still just seems you can't get that same fresh poboy bread experience anywhere outside of NOLA. The ambiance of Gold Post is till 1970's fantastic with nothing being changed from the way I remember it as a kid so that is always nostalgic. The service at Gold Post is fast food style where you order at the counter but they do clean your table. Overall this is a decent joint and one of the few poboy spots in Hattiesburg, MS.

You can even get them "dressed" Nola style with your choice of gravy. Yum Yum Yum! The shrimp po'boy is just as delicious with beautifully executed super crunchy savory battered shrimp, seasoned to perfection. The tiny bistro French fries here are Amazeballs, perfect marriage with NOLA po'Boys :)... AND, the red beans & rice are served traditional NOLA style with French bread. You can get a cup or a bowl, we got a bowl & took one home. The salads here are also worth the drive, they even have their own signature dressing. it's over 2 hours for us but when we need a NOLA fix with nostalgia, it's a Hail Mary to the "GoldPost." Will return. Highest Recommendations.
