If the SmokeHouse Grille found itself at some point when they could not make their food, they would default to Peruvian food, since the owner also owns the neighboring Perusa Peruvian Cuisine restaurant. I would be very interested to see traditional Peruvian foods with an American grill twist. I would also recommend giving the pig mascot a name. The relationship the SmokeHouse Grille has with the rest of the community is one that is based on the devotion of returning customers. Came in to sample a few things on a budget. They sell meat by the 1/4 lb, but were nice enough to give me an 1/8th lb of brisket and an 1/8th lb of pulled pork so I could try both for just $7.50. Asked for a small free sample of beans and got nearly a full side dish worth for free! Also came with half sour dill pickle that tasted home made. The brisket lacked flavor but was very tender. The pork had more flavor and nice bits of "bark" and burnt crunchy corners. Their classic BBQ sauce was very sweet and brown sugary with a slight kick. I prefer a more vinegary sauce but I was still drenching the pork in it. The beans were good and had a slight smokiness to them. Great value for the price and decent but not the best BBQ. read more

After reading some of the poor reviews I was hesitant to try Smokehouse grille. I was shocked at how good the food was. I ordered a half lbs. the sliced brisket and it was the best I've ever had in Jersey. The dalmation rub on the bark was perfect, not too salty not too peppery, but you knew it there. The meat was moist and didn't need saucing, it had plenty of smoke flavor. I have been back to try the pulled pork sandwich, it was over-stuffed, moist and not too fatty, great smokey flavor. The fries that came with the sandwich were also outstanding and portion was huge, I couldn't finish it. I recommend if you tried this place before and weren't happy , try it again. read more

After driving by this place hundreds of times we finally tried it. I have been to Austin many times so I know good bbq. I got a brisket sandwich that came with fries. The brisket was super tender with perfect amount of smoke for me. The bun was a soft and was a perfect vessel for the brisket. The fries were a little disappointing. They have frozen fries w the spray starch similar to Burger King. If they had fresh cut fries it would bring them to 5 stars. My son got the bacon cheese hot dog. He loved it. The bacon was super dried out snd whole pieces would have been better as bacon bits (which we made by crumbling the pieces ourselves). We got a side of Mac and cheese. If I could give a 0 I would. I don't usually leave reviews but 2 weeks later this is still bothering me. Used to have very good food, this is now the 3rd time in a row I have had the same issue. I placed an order online, and even after ordering called to request the hot dog not to be over cooked. I showed up on a Monday at 1pm 25 minutes after placing the order. The cashier was sitting in the corner on my phone and looked surprised that there was an order. She said it would be another 20 minutes. So I waited 45 minutes for a hot dog and Mac and cheese bites on a Monday afternoon since she never paid attention to my order. Of course, now I was late and didn't check the food till I got home. Not only was the hot dog burned but I got Mac and cheese not Mac and cheese bites. I called and she said the bites would be refunded, they never were. First time here. I am big fan of BBQ. But to me that means one thing...smoke. I ordered 1/4lb of each pulled pork and brisket. While both were tender, they lacked any depth of smokiness. The brisket had no smoking ring that I could tell. The sauces were tangy and helped. French fries were very good. Nice and crisp. The baked beans were also good. Not great but above average. Things to avoid are the corn bread and the collards. The corn bread had little flavor and turned to a mushy paste in the mouth. Not good eats. The collards are more savory than sweet-n-sour like I prefer. It came with lots of onions and bits of chicken and it was floating in a chickeny sort of sauce. Overall, I give it an average rating. Not bad. Certainly better than some. But there are better places. Staff is friendly and the food served quick, which means that it's most likely sitting in a steam table in the back. read more

Ate here at 7:00 on a Friday. A little bit about myself, I worked as a pit master for a while at surf bbq, i smoke meat at home as a hobby, and I've eaten bbq all over. This place was not good. The brisket had no visible smoke ring whatsoever and seemed to lack any type of bark. I prefer fatty brisket (the point) over lean brisket (the flat) but the fat has to be rendered properly, this was not. The smoked sausage was a little over done (meaning too charred as they touch it on the grill after smoking) and tasted like a generic Italian sausage. The smoked chicken was fairly dry and fairly bland. The cornbread definitely came from a box mix. All in all it seems like they have a ways to go before they call themselves real southern bbq. Would love to give them some tips. Jersey shore bbq in Belmar is a much better bet or surf bbq in rumson. read more

I ordered a half pound of so called, "Texas" brisket and a half pound of ribs and onion rings. My bill was a little over $21.00. The onion rings were decent, though the portion was tiny. The "Texas" brisket was not really edible. It was wet, soggy and had no smoke ring. In addition, it wasn't cut against the grain like anyone who knows anything about BBQ does so it was rubbery and tough to chew. It was more like really bad roast beef. I threw most of it away. The ribs were at least edible but not nearly as good as ribs from Chili's or Applebees. There was a bit of fat on them as well. So I waited an hour and 10 minutes for food that was only - let's call it "still warm". The worst part was that the rack of baby back ribs were woefully under cooked to the point I was afraid to eat them. So the ribs went on the grill for another 20 minutes while we ate our "still warm" sides (baked beans, hush puppies, mashed potatoes, and amazing cornbread) to tide us over. I am not trying to trash this place, as they are a small business and would like them to succeed! Your BBQ staples but with several options. Smart discounts on food after 7pm. Love that!! I came in a little after 7 and the brisket was sold out. To a foodie, that's a good statement. So, I'll go healthier and get Pulled Chicken. A true test of flavor and an establishment's chops. A side of collard greens usually lets me know if I like your food. Well, I opened my takeout. Photo documentation in the initial Yelp pics. I suppose because it was late I not only got my pulled chicken but I was given pulled pork and both are fantastic!
