One of the best sandwiches I've had, and that also goes for the potato salad. This place had been here for decades and the bread for the sub is out of this world. The bread is light and airy while still fluffy enough to hold the oil and vinegar that is sprinkled on your sandwich. I got the belly buster that was pilled high with meat and fixings. I'm a 58 year old child of parents who grew up in Philadelphia. I took my son and my dad down the shore to the Belmar area. My dad said, I want to get a Hoogie. My 13 year old son said, what is a Hoogie? An hour later my dad walks in with two Hoogies from Mikes Giant Subs. They were the best I have had in decades. On the way home from Belmar, we stopped again to bring one with us. They sandwiches are as good as you will find anywhere and don't miss the cooler with the macaroni salad. While visiting the Jersey Shore, ordered a huge Italian sub for the family after doing some "investigative research". Prepared by the owner after a wonderful conversation with him about how it all started. THIS is truly the ORIGINAL with Jersey tomatoes fresh from local farms. All 5 of us voted Mike's Giant Submarine's the better of the 2 sampled. My parents have ordered again--tuna & a cheesesteak--which got rave reviews from both. (Pleasing my pops is a tough thing!) We ordered ubereats the the beach and these sandwiches totally hit the spot! Huge portions, lots of toppings, and perfect sub rolls. Not sure what brand the meat is (I normally prefer boars head lunch meat) which is why I am giving it 4 starts. The meat was a little "wet" for my liking. read more

Wow!!! Just wow. RUDE/DISRESPECTFUL ?? Is basically all I can say....So completely dishearten by that experience I just had over the phone. The food is really not worth the aggravation ... or rudeness. I called to place an order today for six sandwiches...I asked if I could pay over the phone since my husband was picking the order up with no wallet and I could not be there..... For some reason they couldn't process an American Express over the phone.... No problem at all. I then explained that I needed to place a large catering order for Monday because I had Marines coming back from Afghanistan to the airport that I manage locally and I wanted to know if I could pay for that by credit card over the phone since I wasn't going to be there. Obnoxiously and soo disrespected ...The gentleman on the phone goes "Ms. I'm not talking about the marines or anything else ..I can't process over the phone ........" I said ...what !?!? That wasn't necessary, I was just explaining that I need a large Catering order and who it was for ( most LOCAL places I'm supporting and ordering from, all think that is pretty cool or honored to be feeding our soldiers returning from a horrific situation for our country ) and I just needed to process payment over phone , that's all. Rudely he responds ..... "Well I can't process that over the phone". To the owner of this establishment. I would be COMPLETELY ASHAMED to have someone like that working for me, but It starts from the top. People don't treat people like that unless it's acceptable to management or the owner. I became aware of this place during the Belmar food tour. Loved it and thought they were super friendly. This summer I have been back a few times with a bunch of my friends and we def. enjoy their subs. I get half a sub with roast beef, turkey, muenster cheese and everything on it! This hero shop is tucked into a lively spot near the train tracks about two blocks from the marina. They have a wide selection and the subs are big. Two people can eat a half. I got a pastrami w/ mustard and cheese. Wifey got the classic Italian. The pastrami was dry, best part was the bread, but it was my mistake as I should save ordering pastrami for the Jewish deli. Italian was great, perfect ratio of meat to veggies and dripping with oil and vinegar, just the way it should be. On a more somber note, it appears the proprietors were selling QAnon merchandise inside which is very unnerving. I can understand the Trump stuff but QAnon is really really out there. read more

All bread, no meat or cheese. Bought multiple sandwiches. So damn dissatisfied. The bread was thick and chewy but when I looked inside I saw a slice of each meat. Bread is always fresh. Sub contents are always generous. Tuna, turkey/cheese, cheese steak, etc are each absolutely the best you've had. We tried the other sub places and they just don't compare to the bread or the fillings. read more

They make an excellent sub. Their Turkey Prov is THE BEST. But their cheesesteaks... whaaaa. They were pretty bad. I got 4 sandwiches and they were all made wrong... I think. When ordering online, it says their steak comes with Pep,oni,mush, and sauce. You can omit anything you want. The 4 subs, only one was asked to omit sauce. All 4 came without. In the realm of sub shops, this place is 5 star all the way. I've been coming here for 15 years and I have not once been disappointed. My favorite thing to get is their cheesesteak sandwich. It's perfect. The bread is perfect, the ratio of meat to cheese is perfect (very important) and the toppings are good. I always get one with bacon, extra cheese and mushrooms. Its seriously the most awesome thing on this planet, you have no idea. I've eaten cheesesteaks all over the place including in Philadelphia and this place beats them hands down every single time. You MUST make it out to Mike's. Like you have to. Their other subs are great too I just can never convince myself to get them but rest assured they are superb. Trips to Belmar would not be complete for me without a stop here. I usually am not there in the summer, so don't know how crazy this place gets in the high season, but every time I've been there, it's been so quiet. Not sure why, they give awesome food. Perfect definition of what a sub should be - super fresh white sub bread (fresh even on Sundays, not sure how they do it) - any type of deli meat you'd want, and they are incredibly generous with their meats and cheeses - wide selection of toppings Hands down my sub to beat where ever I go and whenever I want a sub. I took my little sister here to show her the glory of jersey shore subs. The man at cash register was nice enough to give us the last bread loaf and we got a large roast beef. The sandwich was huge and delicious (although it could have used a little salt) and they were really nice to me and my sister. Extra points for great customer service: I tipped them a dollar considering we were getting the sandwich to go and I was charged $10 instead. I called them and they told me they couldn't give me my money back, which I was upset about but kind of understand because it's hard to prove something like that without a receipt (which out). Then they called me back to tell me that they could credit me a half a sandwich for my next visit, which I'm pretty happy about because it gives me an excuse to go back to the beach with my sister and have another delicious sub. read more

No stars because the young man making the sandwiches behind the counter was incredibly rude! He didn't get my whole order, I had one more sandwich to order, which would've been a reasonable misunderstanding if he had just said, "oh I'm sorry I thought you were finished ordering". No. What he did, very rudely, was to take the man's order behind me! Ok so I started to say I wasn't done with my order and he cuts me off and says very rudely and loudly, "this is not your sandwich ma'am!!!!" Ok so can I order another sandwich??? What the hell? The nice man to the left, taking the money said something to him and he's like "whattya want?" Whoa! Rude little punk kid with a major bad attitude!!! He is not an asset to your business. I've had subs from coast to coast and this place pretty much tops them all. The "Giant" in their name is truth in advertising...I can barely finish a half sub from here. This is a very traditional sub/hero shop with that distinctive flavor that can only be described as the kind of sub from your youth. I had a classic Italian sub which was very delicious. Generous portions of meat...hot Cappi, salami, provolone and ham. The shredded lettuce and onion were perfect. The tomatoes were beautifully red and fresh. The oil and vinegar, oregano, salt & pepper seem so simple, yet it just made the sub. The only thing I would do differently is ask to hollow out some of the bread filling but that's just my personal preference. My husband, nephew and daughter had the cheesesteak with bacon. It didn't necessarily need the bacon. It got three thumbs up. These subs were fresh and hit the spot. The heroes are very large as cited in earlier reviews which makes the price more palatable and actually less expensive and far and away better than Subway. The foot long Italian sub was $12.60 but I split it with my sister. I ate 1/4 of a sub and saved the other 1/4 for tomorrow at the beach. Most people could probably eat a 6 inch but I was saving room for frozen custard at Kohr's in Pt. Pleasant. I'll be posting a review on that later. I would definitely recommend Mike's and will go back again when I'm on the Jersey Shore. read more

Not much can beat a hoagie by the beach!! The bead at Mikes is delicious, fresh and fluffy. I usually get a turkey club and it is delicious!!! They have a lot of selections making it perfect for early afternoon with their egg sandwich offerings, lots of cheesesteaks and hoagies making it great for late afternoon as well. read more

I'm from the area so I've been going to Mike's since it opened, which probably was around 1980-1982 (yikes!). It's a solid sub joint -- cheese steaks, tuna, roast beef, turkey, meatball have been some of my faves over the years. I must say though that I don't like it as much as I used to and whereas it used to be a must-go when I was in town, now I only go occasionally, maybe just once a year. I thought it started to get a little pricey for just standard sub fare, plus the extras really add up -- chips and sodas seem to mostly be large-sized and premium brands, so by the time you're rung up, lunch for one is gonna be around $12. read more
