I had a date night with my husband on 12/20/2016. The food was yummy, as always! Our waitress, Hailey, was super sweet and took wonderful care of us. It's nice to see someone who looks like they enjoy their job and who smiles when you catch their eye. Sandy, the manager, came over just to see how things were going and she was great! We enjoyed speaking with her. It makes you feel special for a manager to actually visit your table. Food is only a part of the dining experience. This chain is going downhill. Two adults ordered the same meal and the one had less than the other. Also the kids mac and cheese is made with queso which has jalapeno in it. A kids meal should not be made with hot peppers. Unless some changes happen we probably won't go back. read more

We stopped here for lunch the day after Christmas. Our server, Michelle, was like a drill sergeant demanding that when we were ready to order we were to place one menu at the edge of the table. Same when we were ready for a drink order to put our empty glass at the edge. Fine but this to me says you are too lazy to come around and check on us. It was not busy. We were seated near the kitchen area where my husband could see the servers getting the meals to serve to the patrons. He noticed a server pluck a couple fries off one of the plates and eat them as well as eating a piece of broccoli off another plate. Those dinners were then served to us! When we told our server what we saw, she only apologized. Then tapped me on the arm and told me to have a shot and I wouldn't be bothered by it! We were not given any amount off the bill. She also messed up my husbands order and when told about it, she laughed and said she couldn't read her own writing. We should have asked to see a Manager but we were just dumbfounded by the whole experience. I wish we would have made a scene looking back. Needless, to say, we will not be dining at that restaurant again. Who knows how much food is eaten off of patrons plates by the time it is served. Appalling! Also, our ziosk showed a charge for a game which we did not play. I'm sure something is going on at this establishment with workers playing games and then having unsuspecting customers pay for them. Do not eat here! This is a chain I understand but me and my friend got some type of "food positioning" after eating there! We got an appetizer sampler which was ok but after we got outlet entrees that's when things went wrong! He got ribs which were dry and tough. I got a three meat platter and the brisket was like slices of hard ago leather. I know this is a chain but REALLY? I also got smoked wings which were ok but dry then the smoked sliced turkey was good but the seasoning tasted weird. I don't automatically look down on chain restaurants. If they get the job done right, I can still be a fan. Have visited this place at least 8 times over a couple years. If you go for dinner on Friday or Saturday, you'll have a wait. I've sat at the bar a couple times while waiting and found the pours to be on the generous side. We try not to go those nights because the bar can be full and I don't want to stand for 30-45 minutes. I am a rib fan and I love their ribs. I mean I LOVE them. To the point where I know that's what I'm going to have every time. Only on one occasion was I less than very satisfied (that time the ribs were dry and chewy) but besides that one-off experience they have been moist and meaty with a little bark on the outside - the way I like them. Never had a problem with service - prompt, friendly, cheery and attentive. There's an assortment of 4 BBQ sauces at the table that you can choose from, and you can also order the ribs smoked and sauced, or smoked and dry rubbed. Geez, my mouth is watering now. I've had the smoked wings as an appetizer and they were great. I would skip the mac-n-cheese side as it's a couple of dollar upcharge and was nothing to write home about. My wife is partial to the pulled pork platter paired with the Carolina-style sauce, and she says to mention that the broccoli side is always a winner, cooked just right. And if you've thrown caution to the wind for your dining experience, try the hot donuts for dessert, with chocolate and raspberry dipping sauces. They are wonderful. A decent bar/grill restaurant but definitely overpriced and loaded with extremely unhealthy meals. The food is decent,I have never had a bad experience to speak of and the service is usually solid and speedy. The food itself is what I have a problem with the most. Its definitely over priced for the quality and Im not sure how they prepare some of their meals but looking up the nutrition information online is shocking. 810 calories in one serving of sweet potato fries...seriously? 890 calories in 8 very small smoked wings is also shocking although they are very tasty I did not expect them to be that high. The burgers are certainly nothing to brag about and the fact that they are priced higher than Burgatory makes it even more disappointing. I ordered an all Angus beef patty that was very plain and average tasting certainly not comparably to the juicy delicious flavor of a burger from Burgatory. Would give it 0, but not a choice. Drove past the place for several months after relocating to Pittsburgh. Decided finally to try it out for a simple lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Never made it past the abandoned hostess stand. After waiting for minutes watching many workers walk by and not even acknowledge my presence, decided to walk out. Today is my Christmas and I decided to take the family to Smokey Bones for dinner, 9 adults and 2 kids. What a catastrophe! It all started when I ordered a brandy and was told that the bar didn't stock brandy. So I ordered a margarita. It came out with the outside of the mixed drink glass (?) covered in syrup. The bartender told the waitress that you couldn't top the glass rim with salt without pouring syrup over the rim. I sent it back, soon replaced by one with no salt and half full. I sent it back and ordered a glass of red wine. I ordered the prime rib, medium rare. It was so tough that it just kept sliding around the plate as I sawed away. My grandson's girlfriend ordered wings. They were bloody near the bone. The manager came out and said it was normal because of a broken blood vessel near the bone. My son ordered the grilled salmon which came out so dry that dust rose from the plate when he tried cutting it with his fork (not true but it was completely dried out).The waitress was outstanding, apologizing for conditions not under her control. While I ate there in the past and was pleased, it was obvious that last night the management left much to be desired. From serving the main course before the appetizer, to doggie bag issues to tabletop checkout not printing receipts, it was a bad experience. When I asked to speak to the manager, she said she was sorry but was obviously in a hurry and didn't even offer a certificate for a free dessert in the future. I am African American and this area does not have many blacks and they treat me fine. I wrote to the company months back about all the employees wearing there hair untied, one girl's hair was down to her waste and she was swinging it out of her way the whole time she was serving. Found this very disconcerting, if I find a 14" hair in my food, I will flip out on someone. So didn't go there for months, thinking maybe they were all told about this, and low and behold, the same thing. There was a man with a man bun, he was the only one with tied back hair. I don't want them wearing nets, just TIE your hair back if you are in the food industry. Also, when we go there, we tell them to please not turn our food order in until we have eaten our salads, as otherwise, the food comes out immediately, and never do they listen. Very disappointed in what used to be one of our favorite restaurants. The driveway going into the place was rutted there was a large puddle right at the door with cigarettes onbutts all over the place. The restrooms were dirty and there were no towels available. We came in during a snow storm and the bartender, Pamela, was serving the bar and the surrounding tables. She was very cheerful and attentive. We were even lucky enough to have the manager, Chris, cook our steaks. He even came out to greet us and make sure we enjoyed everything. First, let me start this off by saying I LOVE Smokey Bones. I eat here quite frequently, but tonight's visit left a lot to be desired. I had my usual, petite sirloin, baked sweet potato, and broccoli. Waitress seemed like she didn't want to wait on my table. She acted like I was a bother. Dinner arrives, and my sirloin is way small-- as in much smaller than the 6 oz that I usually get. This looked to be about 4 oz. size. Baked sweet potato turned into sweet potato fries. Manager was sent over, and I said I had ordered a baked sweet potato. She proceeded to argue with me that they NEVER had baked sweet potatoes on the menu, and she has been there since they opened. Also inquired about size of the steak. She insisted (again arguing with me) that it was a 6 oz. size. I didn't mention that I was never offered a refill on my drink or my broccoli was cold. She told me she would comp my dinner "since you're not satisfied" (done in a very snotty tone). Waitress brought check, didn't offer dessert, or a drink refill. And guess what... no comp for dinner, but that was more than okay because I ate it. Waitress needs retraining because she messed up two other orders. Overall, a bad dining experience. I' think I'll sit out of Smokey Bones for a long while until service improves. Sad, because I really do love this place. read more

I stopped coming here well over a year ago because the service was always bad. But my husband wanted ribs this past labor day, I was reluctant but obliged. Got here around 130 pm and the place was packed. We put our name on the wait list with the server who just happened to be our waitress. I watched her for the next 10 minutes run around that place to get everyone taken care of with a great attitude, like she actually wanted to be there. We were finally sat and Angela first apologized about the wait before she even proceeded to tell us her name. Clearly not her fault but it was a nice touch. She gave us some great recommendations for drinks and appetizers that were awesome. We got our food in a timely matter and she had conversation for everyone she was waiting on, even though they were extremely busy. I told her that as long as she is there we will be sure to come back. Great come up smokey bones. read more

All in all, there is nothing "consistently" wrong with Smokey Bones. I'm not saying every customer has had a good experience in every facet every time they go. I'm saying if something went wrong it's probably a fluke. I've had a manager contact me about an issue I had and I usually like what I see. BEST RIBS EVER! I love the baby back ribs with a dry rub at Smokey Bone's in Tarentum! The ribs are so soft and fall right off the bone. Absolutely delicious! My husband really likes their wings. Ambiance is not my favorite because I don't like sports bars. But I'll deal with the TVs and bar atmosphere in order to have the BEST ribs ever! I recommend a baked potato or broccoli for sides. Warning: the broccoli comes heavily buttered; but you may ask for no butter on the broccoli. Caesar salad is OK but I didn't care for the mixed greens in the regular side garden salad. Another perk is a yummy slice of warm garlic toast is served with the ribs platter. Nice drink options and competent wait-staff. read more

Nice place. Food was pretty good. Have one complaint. The pitchers for beer have this huge tube in the center that is supposed to hold ice to keep the beer cold. We've eaten in the restaraunt multiple times and I'd give them 4 stars, but this is a review of the online ordering, which I've done at least four times over the summer to take to Pirates pre-game. The capability of the web sight is horrible if you want to make any requests. You simply cant do it. The smoked wings are our favorite and they're good. Appetizers are bad. Ceasar's salad with dressing already on the salad - bad. Mac n cheese - bad. Sweet potato fries - bad. Spiced Apples - good, Vegan Burger on a lettuce wrap with some of their extras was absolutely horrible and +$13. It went directly to the trash. Picking up at the resteraunt was an adventure from not bad to mostly bad. The order was ready when I walked in once out of 4 times. Always had to request utensils and napkins ask for ketchup etc.. If I could make some requests on the online ordering that would go along way. If you can't get the online ordering together, even though the website is done by corporate, then just stop and my suggestion is to just call in your order! read more

Smoked wings are absolutely the way to go - never in my life have I had something so incredibly flavorful and different from your average wing preparation. Bar is huge with a ton of options on draft/bottle/liquor. Go on a weekday as weekends are usually stymied with a wait at the door which is completely understandable. Waitress was knowledgeable and pointed us towards house favorites - otherwise we probably never would have even glanced at the smoked wings. I have been to this place many times. It is located near the Pittsburgh Mills. I have gone there on my way to Steelers and Pirates games. Their service is always good and they have flat screen tv's that you can watch sports on. I have got several different things off the menu like burgers and ribs. I've stayed away from this place due to bad reviews on yelp. I'm upset now that I finally gave it a try. I stopped in to grab a beer and a bite to eat. The bar was busy but a couple moved over to allow me a space. I was greeted quickly by China and asked about happy hour specials. She informed me they all day happiness and told me the specials. I know this outfit from Florida. They do better down there. Last Friday night, my wife and I, the server is very nice, but is way too busy, Two beers run dry, requested water chasers never show up, no set-up for me. I end up going to the server's station and serving myself. We order a soup and the small portion Baby Back Ribs. "That's it?" the server seems a bit put out on the order. 19 minutes later (yes I do time it) smokey bones is what I received, mainly charred about 1/4 cup of meat, certainly NOT worth the price! Florida corporate needs to take a look at what is cookin' here. I won't be back until they do. read more

diners beware...the cost of our meals came to $31.18 but when the waitress brought the slip to be signed (we were paying via credit card) the total read$33.42. When questioned about the difference, she took the slip back and brought one for the correct amount...that slip was signed HOWEVER our bank statement shows that $33.42 was charged to our account instead of the correct amount. Making a trip back to the restaurant for answers in the morning. Now if every diner that day was shorted $2.24, that would be a nice bit of pocket change for someone! Just saying. Visit this restaurant often as my husband loves their ribs. However when we stopped in this weekend for dinner it was not so great. After waiting 45 minutes to be seated we waited another 30 minutes to be served. I ordered my usual sirloin steak dinner which I typically love however this time it was barely edible. The meat itself was very fatty and I could barely swallow it. Therefore I left half of it there and when the waitress finally came around to pick up our plates I just mentioned that the cut of meat was not very good this time around. Before I knew it the manager on duty came by and chastised me for not speaking up when I got the meal rather than waiting. Well in the first place he was loud enough that everyone around me heard that I apparently didn't like my dinner and should have told them sooner when in actuality I did not complain about it nor ask to see the manager. I simply stated to the waitress the reason why half of the steak was still on the plate. The last thing I wanted to do was wait for them to prepare another meal, the waitress was so busy she hardly came around that would have necessitated a much longer wait than I was up for.
