The waitress we had was very attentive and made sure everything was to our liking. We tried the grilled salmon with asparagus and beans & greens soup and the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with fries. Everything was well prepared and hot when it arrived. The cheesesteak had really generous heaping mounds of hand cut steak and mushrooms, peppers, onions and cheese. Have been to Tarentum Station many times. This evening might be the last time. Food was just average. What really was the turn off this evening was the Fried Zucchini Appetizer we ordered. There were 5 zucchini strips breaded. Of the 5 only one had zucchini in it. The other 4 were just breading. I advised the server William and asked him to show the chief. No new strips ever came in replacement and the $15.00 charge on bill was not removed. Not the sign of a good server or a concernd chief. A Culinary Adventure I'll Never Forget (No Matter How Hard I Try) Oh, where do I even begin with Tarentum Station? Actually, let me start by saying that if you've ever wondered what it's like to pay good money for a truly spectacular display of incompetence, this is your place. We walked in with such hope. Such naive, foolish hope. Twenty minutes later, we were still hoping... for our drinks. Yes, you read that right. Twenty minutes to get a beverage order taken. I can only assume our waitress was training for some kind of Olympic speed-walking event, because she was certainly rushing around the restaurant like her life depended on it. Attending to us? Not so much. She had the frantic energy of someone who'd had six espressos but the attention span of a goldfish. When the French onion soup finally arrived (and by "finally" I mean after we'd aged approximately seven years), I took one spoonful and immediately understood what dishwater must taste like. Not that I make a habit of sampling cleaning products, but now I don't have to. The kitchen at Tarentum Station has thoughtfully recreated the experience for me. I'm not sure what they did to that soup, but "onion" and "French" seemed like purely theoretical concepts in whatever that liquid was. Two hours. Let me repeat that. TWO HOURS for our entrees to arrive. I've had shorter dental procedures. At this point, we were so hungry we probably would have eaten the menus. When the food finally graced our table, it was cold. Ice cold. Room temperature if the room was a meat locker. We sent it back, naturally, because we're optimists. It returned... still cold. Apparently "reheat" means something different in their kitchen. Maybe they just waved it near the stove and hoped for the best? And the taste? Oh, the taste was the grand finale of this disaster symphony. If the temperature had been the only problem, we might have survived. But no, the food itself was aggressively bad. The kind of bad that makes you question whether the chef has ever actually eaten food before, or if they're just working from a vague description someone gave them once. The service was somehow even worse than the food, which is really saying something. Our waitress appeared to be everywhere and nowhere simultaneously, like some kind of unhelpful quantum particle. Do yourself a favor: if you're near Tarentum Station and you're hungry, keep driving. Order pizza. Make a sandwich. Forage for berries in the woods. You've heard the phrase, "you can put lipstick on a pig, but..." Let's be honest: Tarentum Station is historic. The town of Tarentum has its own history, but so do places like the National Public House, the Bloser Mansion, Voodoo New Ken, and the building that houses Botl. So what does that really mean? Nothing. For over 15 years, we've visited Tarentum Station roughly every 2 to 4 years. Most recently, we dined here after a hiatus of two or three years. Upon entering, you encounter most of the typical fine dining clichés : daily specials, food treated as art, signature dishes, everything à la carte (even the French fries), a complimentary bread basket, overly formal waitstaff, decadent desserts, and minimalistic plating. During our recent visit on a weekday evening, the atmosphere felt sparse, with more waitstaff than diners, creating a quiet and somewhat down ambiance. The menu appeared largely unchanged, but prices had risen significantly since our last visit, especially for basic items that were pasta or chicken-based. French fries were an additional charge, and the shrimp cocktail was nearly $4 per shrimp (yes, you read that correctly). The nine-dollar house wine was of poor quality, and even the so-called "dry" options leaned towards sweetness. Overall, the food ranged from mediocre to below average and was overpriced. I must commend our server, who was attentive and upbeat. To gain perspective, I revisited some of my earlier reviews of restaurants of similar "caliber" - from the perspective of pricing. Perhaps there's a good lunch crowd? Maybe the owners are satisfied with breaking even or accepting minor losses? Or are there just a few loyal, older couples trying to recapture a bygone era? I can't say for sure, but this earns 2 stars from us. I have visited Tarentum Station Grill on multiple occasions. I have been here for an engagement party. We had a very large party and most of the guests ordered steaks. I did not enjoy my steak that night but understand the difficulties to serving very large parties. I have also had the steak salad for lunch multiple times. My husband and ate dinner here for the first time recently. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed the atmosphere. My husband got Chicken Romano and I had the Chicken Marsala. Both meals came with soup or salad. However when we received our entrees it was just two plates of chicken with no potato or vegetable. Apparently you can purchase your sides for an additional $3 each. The meals were each over twenty dollars already. It is a nicer restaurant so if a meal is $30 just charge what it costs to receive a complete entree instead of making it seem less expensive by not serving a full meal. I have been to a lot of restaurants in my life and this is the first time we received entrees without sides. Unless it's a pasta dish it should have a vegetable and a carb. read more

This steak was cooked perfectly. So juicy and tender and well worth the price. Another dish that is outstanding is their Cajun combo - Jumbo sea scallops, shrimp and beef tips, My friends are always equally satisfied with their selections. I will not go back!!! A friend and I stopped in for a drink and some dinner this past Friday afternoon. The bar was very busy and noisy. bartender had her hands full so we decided to go to the dining room which was not busy. We were told that our check would be transferred and to pick a seat the waiter would be with us. We sat for a while and the waiter never acknowledged us. At all! 2 other tables came in and were waiting on immediately. Orders taken , drinks delivered! We were sitting in between the 2 other tables and the waiter kept looking past us. Finally the bartender walked in and we asked if there was an issue. We tried to explain that the waiter was walking past as though we were not there. She hastily took our orders. We tried to explain that we knew she was slammed so we came to the dining room. The waiter brought my salad and bread. No silverware. So I sat there until he finally came back so I flagged him down and asked if I could get some silverware. My friend thanked him for acknowledging us as we were hungry. The bartender and the waiter stood in the door by the bar and was talking and looking at us. The bartender came over and went off on us!!! I was absolutely floored! My friend attempted to explain that we knew she was slammed but the waiter was ignoring us. The bartender told us they were allowed to be rude to customers that were mean to them and kept going off on us! Really???? WOW! I just picked up some late lunch, I ordered stuffed flounder with vegetables. This may have been the best fish meal I've ever had in my life! And I've had fish entrees at many different locations including in Australia. And this still beats every fish dish I've been had. I loved every bite! Talk about a food-gasm! Close to home. Decent prices and will to do substantial request. Large portions and yummy food. I got their salad but substituted grilled chicken for fried buffalo chicken and added blue cheese. The salad was sooooo good and fresh. The drinks are comparable to fancy restaurants. Ate full meal with bread, and beers for about 40$ we sat outside and enjoyed the mural that runs all down parallel to the tracks. The mural is a time warp and makes it fun to sit outside. It's been 20+ years since I've been here, yet they still have a few of their unique dishes on the menu. And they are still as delicious as they were 20+ years ago. Sitting in an old train station feet from work rail tracks, I would have expected more railroad themed decor but the place is quaint and clean. The menu price was a shock when we first sat down. This is not a two dollar sign place. But the food was wonderful. Best stuffed banana peppers. I will admit it beats my own and we try them every place we go. I had the cajun combo. Blackened cajun done great. I forgot to ask to go lite on the season but that is my preference. Scallops were soft and the steak bites were perfect.
