Decent BBQ joint. Haven't tried all their meat yet. But their ribs and briskest are definitely have lots of smokey flavor. But tiny little bit dry. Their sides are really good too. Their corn breads are like mini cup cakes. A good treat if you are fan of corn breads. I am a visitor to town, don't have time to try everything in the menu. Just "meh". It was a birthday supper that we'd really been looking forward to for a little while. We wanted something other than our usual takeout options ( no indoor dining options at this time) We ordered the "sampler platter" with four sides and were underwhelmed to say the least with what we got for the money we paid. The brisket was very good, but not enough of it. The pulled pork was just okay, no better than you could get just about anywhere else or even some prepackaged type you'd get at Costco for that matter. As for the Ribs? They were tough and fatty and didn't exactly fall off the bone, they were terrible, and that was the one item I was really looking forward to. I'll just stick with Montanas the next time I want ribs. The side dishes were a mixed bag, while the beans and Mac n Cheese were good; the coleslaw was disappointing; basically like prepackaged stuff you get from Costco or something like that, and all three items served containers barely bigger than a thimble. All in all, it was a little disappointing and overpriced for what we got, Next time I have a hankering for ribs, I'll just go to Montanas. At least I can go there and know exactly what to expect. I don't know how so many can claim this place is so great. The best way to describe it is,... Tremendous Letdown. read more

Smokin' Okies is by far the best BBQ I've had! Or at least for its type of BBQ. I tried this one day, and my husband and I came back two more consecutive times. It is THAT good! When you first walk in, you are lovingly assaulted by the aroma of pork and beef being smoked and it is mouth-watering! We both agree that after eating it the first time, we were already craving it the following two days! In fact, if we lived in Regina, this would be my number 1 BBQ go to! It's real southern BBQ! I had the chopped brisket one day and then the regular brisket the following two days. My husband had the chicken breast sandwich every time we went. Corn bread is not the sweet kind but it's really really good! Hush puppies are awesome, so is the coleslaw, pinto beans and their macaroni and cheese is just how my grandma makes it! Southern all the way! I know I'd miss it after leaving. So I bought their BBQ sauce so I can make it at home! People of Regina and tourists, if you want something delicious and great quality, go to Smokin' Okies! read more

Saw some great review of this store. Decided to try it out. Had a sliced brisket sandwich. Overall it's not bad. Their BBQ sauce is very nice. Sandwich is acceptable. Not too good but not too bad. Brisket is extremely dry. Only added a bit of BBQ sauce to moisten it. The most interesting fact is I was expecting some kind of smokey flavour in my meat but I can't taste anything. I didn't even know if this is a smoked joint. Well....had better sandwiches else where. Might try some other dishes if I have few more days in Regina. read more

I have heard of good reviews of this place so I thought I'd give it a try. Man was I disappointed. The briskets were dry and flavorless. They used hot peppers to spice it up. Kaiser buns were promised on the menu but I got regular hamburger buns that seemed to be Costco quality. For $10, I got a small flavourless dry sandwich and no sides. They really should listen to the customers and go back to the fresh ingredients. read more

I am unsure whether I ate at a different restaurant, or if the other reviewers have a different standard of BBQ. The experience began promising enough: the young woman behind the counter was exuberant, welcoming and seemed to honestly believe the food was the best. I took her advice and ordered the pulled pork plate with coleslaw, an extra order of hush puppies and an order of macaroni and cheese for my son. After paying, my son was deflated to be told there was no macaroni and cheese. Devastating for a 2-year-old. I was told I'd have to pay the difference for the only other option available: a hamburger. And then they couldn't figure out simple math. The kid's meal first: no toppings, just a meagre patty of what seemed like a grey beef-like material served on a bun. That's it. I can't even make it sound as bad as it really was. McDonald's does a better job. My meal: the pulled pork was mostly bark so tough and inedible, I was forced to leave the majority of the meal on the plate. No true southern BBQ joint would have allowed such over-cooked, under-flavoured asphalt (yes, that's what it was like) to grace even their waste bins. I can't imagine how much damage eating this between a bun would have done! The fries were awful; undercooked and flaccid. I've never had flaccid fries before. Not something I hope to have again. The hush puppies, while seasoned nicely with a bit of tarragon inside, were so drastically over-fried, I have to wonder if they weren't re-fried from an earlier order. Hard, dark, and with an over-powering flavour of oil. Stop he madness, people of Regina. Get yourselves a respectable BBQ joint. Stop celebrating mediocrity. read more

So it's summer time! I love BBQ and smoked meats! I've never tried the food here so thought I'd give it a try. I had the chopped brisket sandwich which was$10.00. No sides or anything with it! I must say I was extremely disappointed as I expected a lot more meat on my sandwich and the smoked flavor was non existent! This just confirmed yet again why I cook my own food!! Ate there for the first time today. We had the sampler platter, and I'm glad we did. The two types of ribs are very similar in flavour - very darkly cooked but tasty, not dry at all. They aren't very saucy but a bottle of barbecue sauce is on the table. I'd like the ribs a bit saucier personally. The cornbread isn't very sweet, so it isn't my favourite. Fries are good - not amazing but tasty. The pulled pork was good and the brisket was my favourite - good texture, and cooked long enough to be easy to chew (brisket is a chewy cut of beef without good cooking technique). Service was friendly. The place smells amazing. Overall: not up to the standard of the US barbecue joints I've frequented, but very good. read more

Just OK. I'm a lover of BBQ and have sampled from California, to Texas, Missouri, Arizona and Georgia. Smokin' Okies is just mediocre. I've tried most of the menu items hoping for something to be above average but it's all just average or slightly below. read more

My daughters and I ate at Smokin' Okies and enjoyed every part of our meal. I ordered the full rack of ribs to share with the three of us, and the portions were huge! We had the mac&cheese and southern beans as sides and the best part was the buttermilk pie for dessert. I ordered two extra pieces of pie to go for our hotel room, it was great as a midnight snack. I lived in Oklahoma for a few years, and this is the best BBQ I have ever had. Believe me, Southerners take their BBQ very seriously - it was a real treat to find authentic down home cookin' in Regina, Saskatchewan. First awesome BBQ joint I have found here. Killer cornbread and amazing pulled pork!

I tried to use Smokin' Okies as a caterer for an event in Regina. After numerous attempts to contact them I finally received a response. The communication was terrible and the quote ended up being double what was agreed upon, and also double what we paid the last time that we used them. Long story short, after a very rude e-mail, we decided to use another caterer whose communication had been fantastic and price was less than half what Smokin' Okies quoted. I have 2 events coming up in Regina and I will be using the same caterer that I booked instead of Smokin' Okies, and this trend will continue for every event (and there are many) that we put on in Regina. read more

Meh. I love real BBQ, so does my ex-husband... We would seek it out every time we were travelling down South. So I'm thrilled that Regina has a real bbq restaurant... BUT... Usually I'm disappointed. I have eaten here about 8 times in the 3 years they've been open because it's fast and convenient (I live nearby). Like I said, I really love BBQ and Regina does NOT have many options! The pulled pork is bland except for the foodservice asian honey garlic sauce they add. The brisket can be good but most times I've ordered it the result was tough (so they slice it really thin) and a really light smoke flavour. Not much for seasoning either. Ribs are hit and miss also; I've had them three times and twice they were quite tough and greasy... but I liked the smoke flavour. The catfish was a nice addition to the menu... I really love fried catfish but be aware that the cornmeal breading here is quite heavy; I remove most of it - otherwise it really overpowers the delicate flavoured fish. Hushpuppies are good, fries are great. read more

This place has really gone downhill. My sliced brisket sandwich was really dry. It had a large smoke ring but no smoky flavor. It tasted like 3 day old roast beef. The onion rings were over cooked. And my coke came in what seemed like a kids glass. It was massively overpriced for what I got I would steer clear of this place. Hopefully they go back to fresh food. read more

Zero stars - worst customer service ever - arrived today at 11:20 and despite published hours that they open at 11 a.m. there was a sign on the door saying open at 11:30 due to catering order - upon knocking at the door at 11:35 I was told that they weren't yet done and wouldn't open until they were - no apology no nothing - just a leave don't leave - really didn't care - I can assure you I definitely won't be back! read more
