Smokey mountain bakers is a very quaint and cool place. I love that it's kind of unexpected in appearance how good the food is. Pulling up in the parking lot, you can smell the wood fired oven as it bellows out that smokey goodness from it's hearth. The food here is exceptional! From the baked goods to pizza it's very fresh and the barista does a fine job at making the coffees as well. My favorite is the caramel macchiato. If you haven't been to Smokey Mountain Bakers, treat yourself to an authentic Roan Mountain gem. Roan Mountain would not be the same without it. read more

After a five day hiking trip, this was a glorious meal. At $14-16 a pizza, prices are reasonable and flavors were great. They make very thin pizzas, so the edges do get a little burnt. We LOVE this place. The breads and pizzas are to die for. But something has changed. The outside was hit by a car sometimes back and it still isn't repaired. And the inside and back deck are not clean. Dirty dishes pilled up, full trash cans, old drapery pulled up on the rod and the place was not too busy at all for proper clean up. These items were simply ignored by the waiter. The back deck has junk and debris on it. Some solid elbow grease and better management could pull that place back together and create a more clean and inviting atmosphere. We look forward to going back and hope it improves. This is a perfect example of don't judge a book by its cover. We stumbled upon this place when coming home from Boone several years back not expecting much and have been making regular trips there ever since. The pizza is some of the best we've ever had. Occasionally the char can be a bit much..but still great flavor. There is something about walking into this delapidated barn (no pizza joint) and getting handed a craft pizza that makes the good pizza taste great...and the prices are quite fair in this crazy economy. You would never expect a pizza joint to be in this area, or expect this place to sell food. It's nestled in a neighborhood at the base of Ran Mountain. Parking is limited, and you'll have to get creative in finding a spot, but be careful not to park on private property. Inside, it's small and like a whole in the wall restaurant; aesthetically not pleasing, dark with very limited seating areas. Be ready and kind to share your table with a stranger. There have been a couple of times where staff don't clean up the area where dirty plates and utensils are stacked (yes, customers clean up after yourself at the table before you leave and place in the designated area for used plates and utensils). This place offers pizza and baked goods and treats; all made and baked in-house. The pizzas are pretty good and are a cross between a NY style and Neapolitan style. My only complaint is that they always burn my pizza crust. I don't mind having a few burnt spots, but having more than 50% off the crust to be charred isn't appetizing. For the baked goods, I've only tried their chocolate chip cookies that are sold mini style in a ziplock bag and their bite-sized brownies. Both were very good. It was very obvious the baked goods were made in-house and not previously frozen or bought somewhere else; real ingredients were used - you can taste real butter in them. I've been wanting to try their breads, but it sells out fast!! Their breads are on a rotating menu, so each day is different. read more

Pizza was OK. Maybe good for the area, but not as good as other reviews make it out to be. Soda machine was all out and they had a limited selection of bottled drinks, mostly ones with caffeine. That was not great when we arrived with 3 kids at dinner time. The water option was Fiji water which was odd. Cheesecake cupcakes were tasty and decently priced. The place is a bit run down (the floor is literally coming up in spots) and there was literally a hole in the wall to run the security camera cord through... which was super weird. Seating is tight and mismatched. Resident dogs were cute and friendly and kids loved petting them. Bathrooms are not attached but kids said they were nice. read more

We have a small "vacation/getaway" cabin near this pizza joint and thank goodness we do!! This is a small family owned business and the quality of food is so top notch. Wood fire pizza is my favorite and they do not disappoint. The pizza here is so good that our family ordered two to go after stuffing our faces!! On our last visit here we ordered inside and then found a table out back to wait for the pizza to come out. The drinks are make your own and during our visit they had a sign asking you to get a new cup for every refill (no one really monitored this though so we weren't too concerned). They have a station for napkins and such in the same lobby area where the ordering and drink station is. The picnic tables out back are the best spot (I think) to enjoy and overlook a pretty yard area. We love their pepperoni pizza and white pizza. There are several on my short list to try during our next visit....mainly the Hog Wild one. Something to note is they are closed on Sundays and Mondays and let me tell you those are going to be the first days you say hey lets go grab a pizza from Smoky Mountain...but then remember you cannot. By Tuesday you will wake up bright and early craving pizza lol. And also that they have specials every other day of the week so check those out!! read more

The system is that you order, pay, wait for the food, and clear your own table. The employees do nothing beyond take your order, take your money, and give you the food at the counter. Our cashier/order taker could not have been more miserable. She CLEARLY did not want to be there. Nobody checks on you to see if you need anything. Very unique and fantastic venue. A local couple opened a brick-oven pizzeria in a barn. They also bake fresh bread and desserts there. We ordered a pizza with caramelized onions, mushrooms and ham. We asked how the sausage was and the lady taking our order was very candid: "It will be better tomorrow. We get the fresh ground local sausage tomorrow." So we chose ham. Which proved to be a great choice. This pizza was delicious. We had just eaten and were quite full from the local greasy-spoon down the street, so we took the pizza to go, along with some pumpkin bread and some chocolate chip cookies. Very inexpensive. They only accept cash or personal checks. I had $13 cash on my person and it was less than that. I just ate the warmed, buttered pumpkin bread for breakfast this morning. Delectable.
