Stopped by H & H Whiteway Grill for breakfast. The food was genuinely good and had a great local taste--exactly what I was hoping for. The servers were also very nice and polite throughout our visit. My only complaint was the speed of service. It took about 30 minutes for our breakfast to come out, which is a bit too long for a morning meal, regardless of how friendly the staff is. Whiteway Grill is fantastic! If I could give it more than five stars I would. The coffee is strong and hot, the omelet and home fries were excellent and the biscuits were among the best I have ever eaten. The Grill is family owned and run and the waitresses/cook/owners were friendly and efficient. Every time we went (four times in four days!), the other customers were all locals. The staff addressed them all by name, asked about their spouses and dogs, and clearly knew and cared about their health issues. Wish we had a place like this back in MD but, alas, we are leaving TN tomorrow (although we will savor a last breakfast there on our way out of town). read more

Food is good, service is great and it's like a little pit stop in the side of the highway on the way to your destination to keep you and your family happy and full and content! Loved this place for breakfast; I only wish I'd been hungrier. Hubby said the biscuits and gravy were the best he'd ever had. I had a ham biscuit, and I knew I was in a good place when they asked if I wanted city ham or country ham (country, of course, it's hard to come by). Delicious on a biscuit. Tater tots were fresh, hot, and crispy. Coffee was hot and plentify, served in nice big mugs. Prices were great, food was great, service was great. If there were minus stars, I'd use them for one of the WORST experiences. We use Yelp reviews when traveling and almost always think they lead to successful choices. Heading to Roan Mtn State Park, we found few choices for lunch on a Sunday so picked this local place. It became clear quickly local is key. Because if you aren't local don't stop. We waited many minutes, finally ordered while foolishly asking for a menu. Locals order from the specials board. Once we ordered 30 min later we had no food. The locals behind us ordered and in less than 3 minutes were served what we knew was our order. NO recognition from the one waitress/checkout/check in person. She looked at us, passed our table never commenting others coming in later were served first. Silly us thinking the specials were quicker than items off the dirty menu she brought us. After 35 minutes we left, leaving money for the tea/water. So, no food pix or reviews.....we never got the chance. read more

This place was a local gem for many years. Once Mrs. Lola became ill it shut down for a while. Some of the family tried to reopen it and did an excellent job. They are now shut down again, I have heard it is because Mrs. Lola passed away. My thoughts and prayers to her and her family. read more

This place doesn't look like much, but this little side-of-the-road joint had some of the best breakfast food I have ever had. It's not really located near anything else, but it's a great meal for anyone staying at the nearby Roan Mountain State Park, as my friends and I were. I had a big breakfast with biscuits and gravy, eggs, and bacon. I also tried some of my friends' pancakes. Everything was extremely well-made, and the biscuits and gravy were to die for. The staff was extremely friendly, and it was a great stop for our last day in Tennessee! read more

I've been waiting to write this review. I first want to say that the people that work here are very nice. Even though I had to wait for a while they made me feel like I was family. The food was average. There was nothing amazing or spectacular about it. The prices are very fair. The soda that I received in a to-go cup was my biggest complaint. I could taste the bleach in the soda. So if their cleaning the machines with bleach they need to rinse them more thoroughly. If I eat here again I'll bring my own drink. The customer service and the information you get here is worth the stop. Enjoy. read more

I have to say...this place wasn't our first choice as we had originally drove over to go to highlanders bbq but it was closed as it has been several times after we have made the trip over, so we kept driving and ran into this place. The food was amazing! Don't let the look decive you because the food is some delicious country cooking. Hands down the tenderest hamburger steak I have ever ate. The toast is also actually buttered up and thrown on the grill the way it should be. Will definitely be back. Would probably take the same amt of time, cost a whole lot more, and it certainly wouldn't have tasted as good- impatient people with attitudes deserve what they get--- usually bad service and worse food...
