Donna really knows how to make lasers zapping into your skin, an actual enjoyable experience. Not just because my results are fantastic (with only just one treatment) but because she can provide a truly human and authentic service. I "discovered" Smooth Endings from a Living Social deal, but my experience has been so completely different from the other two negative reviews posted here (which really have nothing to do with Smooth Endings itself, but rather the process by which deals need to be used), so I especially felt a need to write this review so that others won't be scared away from this gem of a place in Park Slope. I emailed Donna about making an appointment, and also had a few questions. She emailed me back almost immediately, suggesting a phone call as that was easier considering my questions. I called her, and she answered all the questions I had about the procedure. She also asked me some questions, and confirmed that because I have light skin and dark hair, I'm the perfect candidate for laser hair removal. Donna also answered questions that I had about my coupon, and I found her to be reasonably flexible about it (not at all what the negative reviewers here posted), although even if she hadn't been, it would have been just fine, as I understood the terms of the coupon I had purchased. Going in, I was a bit nervous. I had never had laser-anything before, and didn't know what to expect. I did have waxing and threading, though, and it was my laziness in making regular appointments to have that done that lead me to consider laser. I decided that the first area I would try is my upper lip. Donna was very warm and friendly over the phone, and in person, she was no different. She immediately put me at ease. I arrived early, and had to wait a few minutes while she finished treating someone else, but we did start actually a bit before my appointment time, which was really nice. After filling out some minor paperwork, we got started. For those of you who have never had laser hair removal done before, if I had to describe how it felt, it's sort of like a thick rubber band being snapped over the area. For me, it was quite a bit less painful than waxing, and a lot less painful than threading. Now, I'm not saying it didn't hurt at all, but it was so quick, and the whole process seemed to go so much faster, that it hardly even compares. With 6-8 "snaps" of the laser (and Donna can work quickly, if you're comfortable with her going at that pace), my whole upper lip was done. Seriously, the laser treatment itself I think was well under 2 minutes. She then applied a soothing lotion, and we were done. After, my lip was a bit pink for about an hour (maybe less). But I noticed that it was considerably less sore than it was after waxing/threading + hydro-cortisone cream. By a few hours later, I didn't even really notice it, other than the sensation of having no hair where I had previously had quite a bit. Needless to say, I was impressed! It's now 3 weeks after that first appointment, and I am utterly amazed that I still have absolutely no hair on my upper lip! With waxing and threading, I would have a considerable amount of hair back by now, and would be scheduling my next appointment. I'm going back to see Donna again tomorrow, as multiple treatments are needed for laser, even if no growth is immediately seen. For the upper lip, it tends to be more than other areas, as that hair growth tends to be more influenced by hormones. Donna explained to me that for the upper lip, 6-8 sessions are often needed. I'm fine with that, but I appreciated her letting me know before we started. In short, I cannot recommend Smooth Endings/Donna any more highly, whether you have a special deal or not (although if you do, I recommend making an appointment soon after your purchase so you'll have plenty of time to use the entire coupon). She is warm and caring, very professional, and from what I can see so far, her treatments are really effective. She's been working in this field for a while, and her experience shows. I've had a very positive experience with Donna at Smooth Endings. Donna was clear from the start about the number of treatments that would be required. She's very personable and makes friendly conversation during the appointments to distract from the discomfort. Even after my first treatment I noticed a significant lapse in hair regrowth. Highly recommended for any guy with a heavy beard. I went to see Donna to have my beard line lazered and she did it with perfection. I receive complements almost everyday on my beard line. I found Donna through a Living Social or similar deal. I won't go into it, but there was some confusion on my end about the terms of the deal. I felt very much, in that interaction and during my office visits, that she treated me, as a "deal customer," as a second class citizen. If she dislikes dealing with the less wealthy people who buy through deals, she shouldn't offer in the first place. Also, I did my bikini line and it hurt so much I could barely speak. I went to another place (Art of Natural Beauty) to get the treatment finished and it didn't hurt at all -- didn't feel a thing. I see that others love Donna, and I am glad. I have been so impressed with Donna and her business, that its impossible not to gush about her. I have been to her twice now for LHR in my bikini area. But let me first back up. Originally I had this done a few (about 6 years) ago at another place, with unfortunate results. I paid the same price (which was annoying considering that was many years ago) and had spots that got thinner, and disappeared for a little while. Unfortunately everything came back over time. I was also burned while the technician was rushing to get out of there at the end of the day. Nevertheless, ingrown hairs are a pain in the arse and I knew laser would help them, so I took a chance. After my first session with Donna I was shocked. I waited 8 weeks for my next appointment and not a one hair grew back. I was so impressed that I decided on full brazilian for my second session instead of just bikini. Let me just fyi you, its not the most comfortable thing, but its actually very bearable, and Donna will go as fast/slow or high/low as you want. Shes very attentive and does her best to distract you with stories and conversation. (my personal advice is go fast and get it over with quickly!) Besides the amazing results, her prices are incredibly reasonable and her office is beautiful and comfortable. Support local woman owned businesses! Its the right thing to do, and when they're owned by someone as nice as Donna, there is just no reason to go elsewhere. read more

I found a Donna and Smooth Endings through Living Social. I had had a negative experience at Laser Cosmetica and I was very skeptical about trying another place, so I called and spoke with Donna on the phone. She was patient and kind and she spoke with me for a half hour to answer all my questions. I told her about my experiences with Laser Cosmetica and she didn't join me in the negativity, instead she explained that that's simply how the large corporations function. Donna's the only technician at Smooth Endings, so you don't have to deal with the awkward experience of having a different stranger zap your brazilian every time you come in (which had been the case for me). Another thing I really appreciate about her is that she always makes sure she knows what areas i'm getting done before I come. She's available to email with questions and always gets back to her clients quickly. She is a well trained, experienced technician and I trust her. The vibe at Donna's space is awesome too. It feels like a spa. It's quiet, and private. No other technicians barging in on you to ask for supplies. She is professional, and sweet, and easy to get in touch with. After ONE session on my underarms I saw an enormous difference. After another session I don't have to shave there anymore. Compare this to 6 sessions on my legs with Laser Cosmetica and I still have to shave every few days. She puts her lasers at the correct setting and she doesn't miss a spot. And most importantly, she makes the process a positive experience. As much as it can be ;) If you want to see results, and you want my advice, DON'T deal with the large corporations even if they seem to be cheaper. It's a scam. They keep their settings too low and their technicians are under trained. Support a self owned business like Donna's. Do your research and find out the technician's experience. Ask about their training, what kind of equipment they use, and how long they've been doing it. If they get defensive when you ask these questions, chances are it's not worth your time. read more

I cannot recommend highly enough! Who has a good laser hair removal experience? Me, or anyone lucky enough to find this little gem. Donna's shop is beautiful, and her and her puppy are a delight to be around. I went to Donna a while back to get my lower legs done. I had one treatment and never went back. Here's why. Donna has you fill out extensive paperwork before your treatment, including detailed medical history information and a list of all medications you are taking. This really gives you a false sense of security that she actually reads what you write and it means something to her. It turns out that one of the medications I take causes photosensitivity. In my opinion, an experienced technician who charges what she does and collects your medical information before treating you SHOULD HAVE KNOWN that this common medication is contraindicated for laser treatment. End of story, I had purple and white dots all over my legs for close to a year. BEWARE and do your due diligence. UPDATE- I have all of the emails about this issue from February 2012. I know we also spoke on the phone. At no point did you offer me a cream or offer to pay for a doctor's visit. The correspondence ended when I didn't respond to your last email since it was obvious you were of no help and the damage was already done to my legs. Horrible experience with a Living Social deal. I paid for a bikini line and tried to make an appointment to cash it in about 2 months before it expired. She said I waited too long because you have to wait six weeks between lasers (huh? shouldn't it be good to cash in until the expiration date?), then she rudely said she could squeeze two sessions in, but it would take another three sessions to do a whole bikini line, which would cost an additional $250. Gee, for that price I could go to a good place like Bare Necessities and not have to deal with this nasty person. So I asked for a refund. She refused. Living Social refused to even give me a credit. But my credit card didn't refuse so they both can suck it. Do not recommend this scam artist and do not recommend Living Social while I'm at it. read more

I did not have a friend to call about getting laser treatments particularly in Brooklyn, so after reading some fairly good reviews on Yelp and consideration of the fact that Smooth Endings is located right in my neighborhood where I work from home, I decided to take a chance. I had no idea what to expect, but to cut a long story short, Donna (a real character who I have come to adore:-), I respected the moment she told me that she does not think that my inconsistent skin color would take to it and that it probably won't be possible to proceed. I told her I was surprised that she was so honest, you would think that she would just want to take your money, and I laughed so hard when she said "I still want to sleep at night":-). We agreed that she would test it and see how it goes. I have been twice and the results have been very positive. I have a real respect for Donna's knowledge, professionalism and honesty (in her work and who she is - take it or leave it!) and her modern, very clean and organized space is making me keep going back for more.
