This place was awsome when it was opened. Now I go to the Poulsbo location and work out with Coach Evan Webster

Broke equipment. Drinking fountain looks like a petri dish that was left in the lab for too long.

I finally decided to go for it and researched a number of gyms online. I was attracted to Silverdale Fitness because of its classes, location and reasonable rates. I have been there for three months now and have gone from straining to bring the groceries upstairs to running up the stairs with ease. :) What I Like: *The instructors have been so helpful. I came in completely out of shape. My experience in the gym was mostly limited to high school classes ten years ago. Both Kelly (Yoga) and Deb (Step) have gone out of their way to help me in their classes. *They offer more Zumba classes than any other gym I looked at. I love Zumba and the women in the Zumba classes are so much fun! The instructors do a fantastic job. Janice and Mary have so much energy and really keep you moving. Zumba is a dance aerobics class that involves a lot of hip shaking. :) *They have excellent Step Aerobics classes. I highly recommend taking a step class from either Janice or Deb. They are both excellent instructors. *They have a number of Yoga classes. Yoga has helped my arm strength quite a bit and, now that I am more active, I appreciate stretching out my sore muscles. *The People: Their staff is 100% helpful and friendly. Also, they have an excellent clientele. I realize they have little control over who signs up for their memberships, but they coincidentally have a great group of people in their fitness classes! I was immediately welcomed in by class regulars in Zumba and Step. The classes are mostly women and every age group is represented. *10 Day Trial: The ten day trial was perfect for me. It gave me enough time to check out the classes and get comfortable with the gym before committing to a membership. What Needs Improvement: *They need more small hand weights upstairs in the aerobics room. There are never enough two and three pound weights. That said, the little weights are pretty cheap and I'll likely buy my own eventually anyway. :) *A number of the step benches and steps need to be replaced. It's fine most of the time, but it becomes a problem when you get a large class. It's tough to use a step bench without enough traction. *Although it does not bother me, I know a number of people who love spin classes and Silverdale Fitness does not have them. However, with a Silverdale Fitness membership, you can go to Kingston Fitness and they offer spin classes there.

Teenage girls just sit on some of the select rise weight machines chatting away with no one to police them and request they lift or move on. It's pretty frustrating. I went back to the YMCA because at least you can count on the equipment being serviced.

The fee for civilians is $5.50, which is steep in my opinion; however, this is a base gym and primarily meant for military so I can't complain. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They have several fitness classes that are complimentary for active duty and their dependents. They also have a variety of equipment (free weights, treadmills, ellipticals, etc.) and a separate gym for families I believe. In addition to the gym equipment, they have tons of televisions, racquetball courts, basketball courts, and a pool (although the pool is closed at the present time). I've come during the summer and find that they keep the place pretty cool (especially in comparison to the Bangor gym). Finally, they have towels to borrow and free wifi, which is always nice :) My only complaint would be that their hours are limited, especially on the weekends and when the carrier is out. This is the result of government cuts so not much the gym can do about that. It can also get crowded at times, but then I just try to come during the day when most people are at work or close to closing time.

Great selection of fitness equipment and free weights. Free for military and dependents. Free WiFi :) Free fitness classes. Super friendly staff. Has a pool, basketball and racquetball court. Good atmosphere and they keep the place clean. We will continue to come here as long as we live in the area.

It is not easy leaving a one-star review for WCF as it is not a reflection on the amazing people…read morewho work there. Cinnamon, Jennifer, Mikey, Brian, McKayla and the rest of the staff will always greet you with a smile and genuinely ask how you are. I have built a family and community at WCF and will miss it very much. But I cannot support a business where the owner sides with the good ol' boys club and his pals bullying someone off a machine over doing what's right by the customer. I was doing super sets at the gym when an older man came up to me and told me he was going to be using one of the machines I was using. He didn't even ask to work in with me. I told him I had two more sets, and it would be done quickly. He then proceeded to touch my things and move them from the machine. I asked the owner, Brian, for help, thinking he would ask this man to wait. I've been working out at this gym for 2.5 years and supersets are standard practice here. Sometimes you get lucky and can work in with others, and sometimes you just have to wait your turn or find an alternative machine. I've had to wait many times because I am no more entitled to a machine than anyone else. While this man, Paul, is using the machine I was just using, Brian makes a feeble attempt to "mediate" the situation, which is a nice way of saying he was siding with his buddy. In the time Brian was taking to talk to him, I could have finished my workout and been done. It was very clear that Brian was playing favorites with his buddy. The right thing to do would have been to tell his friend Paul ( a GROWN 70+ man by the way) to wait. I have never experienced anything like this before at a gym and had Mikey or Cinnamon been managing that day, I know the situation would have been handled correctly.
