Classic dive bar located in River North, where this is like a throwback to before it became all gentrified. It has better but not really that cheap prices to be honest. Snickers looks pretty crappy from the outside, but the inside isn't any better though. More room inside than it looks to be. There's the main area and several others that are good for parties. At night is the best time to come. It's got quite a few specials going on. These are plastered all over the windows. Have to know what to get. They're pretty limited on healthy options. Even though it's a dive bar, the prices aren't that cheap but they're cheap for around here. It's about $5 to get Old Style. Food is pretty much an afterthought. There's some classic greasy stuff like gyros. Better than it looks as far as everything. It's like a dive bar with higher prices. There's some things here that are pretty cheap though. read more

Just came here to Chicago for work. First time at Snickers since my hotel is close by and it's freezing outside. The place seems to be lively for a late Tuesday night. The bartenders seem to be lovely, friendly,and beautiful. However, the cocktail drinks look to be in small glass serving for $14. Drank 3 and my bill was around $43. I mean, I get it, inflation but at-least serve me on a bigger glass like Mother Hubbard's so I don't feel ripped off. I don't know if I want to try to go here again since they don't do happy hour. I had never been to this bar before. I live down the street. I sat down at the bar, tried to scoot the chair over, and got my finger crushed in the broken chair. I got no apology. I asked to speak to the manager. The bartenders just said "there isn't anything we can do.". Not friendly at all. Did not seem to care. Only thing she cared about was telling me to put my finger away cause it grossed her out. They just stared at me as if I had inconvenienced them when it was their property that caused harm to me. read more

They have great prices and perfect bar food to end that night. The TV's are always on sports and the bar is always half packed. It's a great dive bar to pop in for a drink. read more

My friend and I were on State St. after a night out. I don't drink but my friend was pretty drunk. I said, "Hey, let's go to Snickers," mostly because I found the name and the awning hilarious and we're the type that would end up in a dive. It reminded me of any dump in a plaza in Ohio but strangely was in downtown Chicago! As we arrived, some guy on the street was just flat out consistently yelling at the bouncer and challenging him to a fight. The bouncer was going back at him. This continued throughout the roughly half-hour I was in the bar. Good stuff! I ordered a Heineken 0.0 and my friend got a Malort and a beer. When the bartender returned with our tab, my drunk friend said, "I thought these were on the house." She responded, "No, I think he's the house," pointing at me since I'd already pulled cash out. My friend is quite the failed charmer when intoxicated and I appreciated her ability to hang with him on that. By the time the Malort went down, my friend was starting to become incomprehensible. He said, "I should go home now." I agreed and he got himself an Uber, I made sure he got into the Uber, and all was well as the man on the street continued to challenge the bouncer to a fight. I returned inside now alone with a Heineken 0.0. I chugged it and the bartender asked if I wanted another. I'm in a dive bar by myself. You know what's worse than that? Drinking a non-alcoholic beer in a dive bar by myself! I know it's good customer service, but no, I do not need another Heineken 0.0. Before leaving, I went to the bathroom to pee. I did not end up peeing. The urinal was covered in vomit that appeared to be spaghetti & marinara. I hope it was from the same night and not been there for a week but who knows? Anyway, the point is Snickers accomplishes itself as a total dive. But I guess if I wanted this feel, why would I pay Chicago prices for it when I can just go back to my hometown? It was a hilarious visit nevertheless but one I can't really recommend for a major city experience. read more

Went here for the #NationalDiveBarDay @seagrams7 Whiskey event. With an extensive Beer and Cocktail list, I am hesitant to call this place a typical dive bar. It is very loud in here, and the focus is the immense bar in the middle, and you can walk all the way around it. On the right side, there are more tables to order food, on the left side there are a few booths and tables for people that are focused more on drinks. Lots of large screen TV's to watch sporting events. Downtown location without the downtown feel, and decor. It is casual, but not like your neighborhood bar. Anyone dressed up or dressed down is welcome here. They do serve typical bar food such as: chicken tenders, buffalo wings, nachos, pizza, mushrooms, fries. They also serve a few choices of burgers, franks, and sandwiches. The food is okay, nothing special. Of all the tourist bars in downtown Chicago I was looking for a good dive to have a Malort with friends and we found one. This was a great Chicago watering whole where locals and tourists mix. It was a very mixed crowd great for watching a game or hanging out with friends downtown. It isn't as cheap as a dive should be but its a true dive. read more

Came here while downtown with a friend who recounted a night she was trashed at a wedding and somehow wandered (perhaps by rickshaw if she remembers correctly) from the Palmer House to Snickers. She hadn't been back in years and barely remembered much aside from dancing in her bridesmaid dress. We decided to go sober and see what she missed the first time. I'll be honest. She didn't miss a lot. I mean, it's nice to sit in the window and watch tourists walk by. The music is an odd mix of 90s rap and classic rock. There was a dog running through the place. Not sure where it came from but several patrons had to block the door to make sure it didn't run out onto State. There were a bunch of hipsters with ironic mustaches. You know, not attractive facial hair but also I think that's the point. There were guys who looked like regulars. Guys coming in from surrounding offices to have a couple drinks before heading home. We were stationed at a table in the window by a guy who asked his friend if he should consider taking a job that pays more but will be a step backwards professionally, or go with a promotion that will not be much of a pay upgrade. Chew on that for a moment. Drinks are expensive. Even for downtown. Small rock glasses. One conservative shot and a ton of ice. The prices varied depending on what you ordered but it was about $15 for Malibu and pineapple juice. Not sure it was worth all that. The bar is loud and there was a heavy police presence... and by that I mean 7 cops entered the bar which isn't big. It felt like a 4:1 ratio of patrons to police. I mean okay for safety - but like maybe I'm the only one who feels a way when an entire SWAT team comes to the bar I'm sitting in. My friend and I laughed about her previous experience there. We drank our drinks. Watched people out the window. Dropped some cash on watery drinks. Will I return? Seems unlikely - but it wasn't the worst bar I've ever been to. read more

My husband took me here on a Friday night to grab a late night drink. Not usually my kind of night scene, but a pretty decent dive bar. The bar is divided into two sections - the section on the right is a little restaurant that serves gyros, burgers, etc. The bar is open on this side too so you can order drinks. There are pub tables to chill at to eat or drink. The section on the left is the lounge where you can hang out, dance or just people watch while you drink. Booths are available. The crowd mostly consisted of the 30 and up crowd. Music is played out of a jukebox I believe. Which could be either good or bad, depending on who chooses the music. Overall a decent spot to grab a quick drink. The area outside the bar can get a little sketchy, depending on the time of day. So just keep an eye out. read more
