This is a shop that can satisfy the needs of the hipster who needs to dress up his retro a little bit, along with young professionals who want some classic flair. Yes, you can wear a tweed jacket over raw-selvedge denim jeans and make it look good. The shop's got a good selection of both new and old, the buying for vintage clothes is done well, and prices are very reasonable. If you wanna class up your act a little bit without breaking the bank, guys - this is a good place to stop. It's a little bit rockabilly, a little bit Mad Men, and a little bit Animal Collective. Enjoy.

Hampden doesn't really have any other mens clothing stores (except thrift shops) so its a great addition to the neighborhood. Think of it like the sister...er..brother store to Double Dutch. Sixteen Tons also carries other man-gifts like wallets, cologne, belts, ties, hats, etc. The clothing can be quite pricey, depending on the item, but I did recently notice a sale bin! It's difficult for me to get my boyfriend to step into an actual store, or buy something vintage ("If its used, should it be cheaper?"), so its best that I come here alone and bring back what he doesn't want. I always end up asking a bunch of questions when I'm here- usually about sizing. When the owner is in the shop, he is warm and super friendly and helpful. There is another employee who always seems annoyed that I have the nerve to ask about an item; I really can't take that type of attitude. Customer service, man! I'm hesitant to dock Sixteen Tons a star because of this one guy's attitude. The owner has true vision and really caters to his clientele. He has helpful tips (more ties coming in next week!), good suggestions (how about a cool vintage belt for the guy who has everything?) and asks the right questions to really try to understand who you're buying for. He should pass these skills on to his employees!

This General store has a nice collection of comfortable casual clothing and accessories. You can feel the high quality and the clothes are very reasonably priced. Apparel is more classically styled so it never gets outdated. Most of the items seem to fall into 2 fit categories. "Roomy" which is slightly oversized and "Classic" which fits more naturally. However, I prefer the "Fashion" fit which isn't tight but more aligned with my natural curves. Aside from clothes, they have specially designed accessories and stuff for your furry friend. Staying true to its roots, philanthropy is always is full swing. This general store partners with local animal shelters to host dog adoptions events. Adoptable dogs find a home and new owners learn how to properly care for their new pet.

TLDR; Service is great. Material quality is great. Workmanship is questionable. Alterations here…read moreshould be avoided. We decided to go for a custom suit for our wedding. We thought Jos. A. Bank would be a great idea! At the time, I thought we got a great deal, so we've added the additional options (pick-stitching, etc.). I loved the material we picked out, and it looked great when we had the first fitting. Of course, we needed some alterations done, like the waist and hem of the pants. The tailor also suggested that we also get the sleeves done a little bit too. For the second fitting, the tailor wasn't there. I thought it looked great at the time, but when we got home, we started to notice all the things that were wrong. 1. The sleeves that the tailor "fixed" were not even. I understand that some people's arms may be different lengths, but if the tailor had fixed it, she should've properly measured and made the custom suit fit him. 2. The vest does not fit flat on his chest, but the top has an awkward gap. 3. The behind. It looks like he went #2 and it just stayed there. We work out and are pretty fit. Pants should not look like this, especially custom ones. When the seamstress took in the waist, she didn't work on the entirety of the top, so it looks like he has a saggy behind (see pic). 4. The inseam of the pants have this weird ripple effect. This was done by the people who originally made the suit. It's so disappointing. (see pic) Even though they offer free alterations for custom suits, we will save our time and rather pay a seamstress that will do good work. The two stars are for the kind young gentleman who first helped us out. His service was great! We were also his first custom-suit sell, and he made our first shopping experience awesome.

But I especially like the tie selection. Fortunately it seems that everything is either on sale or about to be. It's not a very subtle marketing plan bit everyone seems to play along with it . . . . including me. Socks are about the only thing I would ever pay the "regular" price for here. And remember, "If it's not on sale today, it will be by this time next week.". Definately worth the return trip.
