For as long as I can remember, Snippety Crickets has been a vital part of Solano. It was time we tried it for a kiddo haircut! FYI, call ahead to book appointment. We called on a Friday to book a haircut for Saturday. I will say from start to finish the cut was quick, efficient, and you could tell the stylist was not new to the industry. She knew what she was doing, and how to cut within the short window of kiddo behaviors while sitting :) What I loved is the room is bright, fun, and exudes a sense of comfort for what could be a somewhat stressful situation. There is a wide array of super cool toys (for purchase), and I enjoy the sense of accomplishment for getting through an appointment and reward of something new and exciting. There's not many places that do kid's haircuts but so happy a friend recommended this place that is specifically for children. I called and was able to get a same day appointment (I believe walk ins are welcome but better to just call). We went on a Thursday afternoon. When you walk in there's toys and kid knick knacks (like candy) for sale. There are also toys for your child while you're waiting or to distract them during the hair cut. My son is 2 and 4 months and has only gotten maybe 2 haircuts ever but never has let a set of clippers go near his head. The stylist asks how you want their hair cut and executes the cut super fast/efficient (including hair drying but no shampoo or hair rinse)! There's a cute poster of puppies that she even points at or the cape has animals on it so you can get your toddler to look up or down as needed. There's parent can be engaged the whole time and she managed to use clippers and scissor cut his hair (through baby tears and all). The cut was great and $27 seems like a steal (we were paying $40 elsewhere and it seems a lot for a kids cut that's not as involved as an adult). The place and the service is not a lot of frills but that's not needed. I'd recommend this place to all parents who need a haircut for their kid! read more

I think my son has been here 4-5 times and they do a great job every time. He has thick wavy hair that grows fast. I always appreciate that they take the time to style his hair as well. Their staff is quick and efficient. While I do find the haircut to be pretty affordable, there are toys up front for purchase which can become pricey. But, I think it's a good tactic. They also have a station where kids can play with used toys. I enjoy the early 2000s nostalgia as you enter this business as well. I believe the first time we came(I think it was during the weekend), we tried to do walk in, but they were really busy. Which is understandable because kids cannot stay still waiting for long. We have been going to Snippety Crickets for years, way before Covid hit. While this wasn't where my child got his first cut, Linh was the first person from Snippety crickets to cut my son's hair without any problems (no screaming or crying here at all). She asks a few questions and somehow makes it exactly how you like it! And she was always fast so that my child was able to sit still for her. Also, she's consistent every time! After Covid we've continued to stay with Linh! She's super busy but never a problem when an appointment is booked. It's been many years now and my child is no longer a toddler. He desperately needed a haircut for school once and I tried to take him to Supercuts (because you know they have an opening at any time!) but he said "I only trust Linh" and so we don't really have any plans to go anywhere else! read more

The Yelp profile clearly states "walk-ins welcome" so does the sign on the door. The one lady that works there, turned us down because her schedule was full today. Change your information on your Yelp and your door to reflect as you stated "a slot is not guaranteed." Don't misrepresent the business. While I understand she has appointments, change your advertising to reflect walk-in status so you are not wasting anyone's time. We've been return customers of this place and my daughter had her first haircut here. Never did we need an appointment. Nonetheless, this business doesn't need to worry about it as we will look elsewhere for a place to have our daughter's haircut. read more

Today was no exception, we got a haircut with the new lady and even after we told her to not cut the front bangs too short, she butchered my son's hair. Staff is rude. They don't greet you or introduce themselves. They cut your kids hair super fast (like 10-15min) but barely talk to the kids or even look you in the eye. So of course my toddler is uncomfortable/not willing to let them cut his hair at times because they are super cold with him. He's only 2. It's really unfortunate because there are not a lot of places that will cut little kids hair in the area. I really wish they were friendlier as a place that supposedly caters to kids. It's also super quiet and usually only 1 staff person there. Wish they had a TV or something to distract the kids. We had such a fantastic experience here! Our son is almost 18 months and badly needed to get his hair sorted out. His first haircut could not have gone better. I called and made an appointment same day, we arrived early and they took us before our scheduled time, and our barber was incredibly gentle and kind with him. He was initially upset but she helped calm him down and she was an EXPERT at moving quickly and carefully and working with his fidgeting. The store has a whole toy section for play or to buy and that really helped welcome us in and make him comfortable. It's one of the only places to go for childrens haircuts in the East Bay, they have lots of toys to let kids use while getting their haircut, and also toys for purchase if you want to get your child a little treat. Sometimes I feel like they do not listen to my requests about how to make the experience less stressful for my son (ie, I asked them not to use the buzzer and they did anyway). However, he always has a good cut when we leave, and they try to be as quick as possible if a child is not enjoying their time in the chair. They ARE flexible and will let parents sit with kids on their lap if that is easier. I would recommend this place for parents with babies, toddlers, and young children. read more

Just overall a hell no to coming back here. As others have stated, the staff is rude which makes for an uncomfortable and uninviting feeling which is especially important for a kid's first haircut - especially important for a kid who has refused to cut their long hair but finally agreed to it after much convincing and sharing yelp pictures to show just how fun and kid friendly the experience will be. The staff seemed very cranky even in the morning with their first patrons of the day... maybe being around too many kids all day over the past week (i get it) however, they should go into another business or find another job if this is the energy they are bringing when dealing with kids. Taking out their impatience on my child's hair because they are feeling flustered is entirely inappropriate. I had to interrupt because they were so rough and offered to help brush my kid's hair, which was also met with a lot of attitude and loud sighs. I took my son here to get his first haircut in April 2022 when he turned 1. The lady who cut his hair (don't know her name) cut it exactly how I wanted and was quick. It looked great. I brought him in again September 2022 and asked for the same haircut with just a trim at the top and the lady (don't know her name) cut his hair so uneven and I think she knew she messed up and was trying to fix it but was taking too long and of course my son was crying but he wasn't moving much. Apparently, yes, you can "cut the curl out." After this total flop of a "trim" I'm going back to cutting my 4 year old's lovely (thin) curly hair myself. No exaggeration, the older woman who cut my kiddo's hair might as well have placed a bowl over his head. She first sprayed down his hair and combed it straight down all the way around his head before proceeding to trim off the ends as she moved around his head. Soon after this, she added really short layers on the top (these layers ended up forming a ledge -no blending- and have remained totally straight ever since) while she left longer curly tufts over his ears. Somewhere in there, she cut his longish curly bangs really short too -to about midway down his forehead-- and they have also been straight ever since. I expressed disappointment in the haircut before leaving and was told I could come back if we weren't happy. While I appreciated the gesture, I had no intention of returning, as an improvement wasn't a sure thing and I didn't want to impede the process of growing it out before I could make some corrections. I have no idea how you can cut the curl out. I didn't realize this was really a "thing." I am the only other person who has cut his hair (with good haircutting scissors) and have never had this problem, so maybe it was the quality of the scissors she used or the angle/technique. I can't be sure, but I do know after I finally gave him another haircut tonight (about 2 months after our Snippety Crickets experience), as it dries, waves are already returning to the hair on the crown of his head. Also, as another poster mentioned, there are lots of plastic toys for sale, which is not a plus for me. More annoying, however, my son was offered candy by the woman who was at the cash register. Thankfully he didn't hear (was distracted by other kids playing with the train table). Frankly, IMO you shouldn't offer any child candy without running it by a parent first.
