We take out son who's on the spectrum from Martinez just because they understand his needs. Can't thank the crew enough as our son has he'd melt downs and over time it's gotten better. My son still gets his haircut by Bobbi even though he is a big, bad teen. She always gives him a PERFECT cut--just the way he wants. He went to a chi chi place once and they gave him a buzz cut even though he clearly told them what he wanted. So he went back to Snippety. Bobbi is chatty but she also has a unbelievable memory. She remembers kid's names and knows who they are friends with. She also can fill you in on the teachers at ECHS. We live near each other and we're always swapping stories about our neighborhoods. My husband goes there too! I usually have long hair but lost it all during chemo......Bobbi cut my hair in the past and I'll go back again when my hair returns to it's split end length. We went here today with an appointment and the ladies were amazing. Ms Lynn was very professional and quick. Her kit was clean and organized so she could wiz through a simple boys cut. My 3 year old hates the cutters and hair falling on him and she kept him clean and blew off the hair with a hair dryer. She even thinned it which was amazing as will mean drying is easier. So, I took him to the Berkeley location expecting to have an equally good experience--bad assumption. They completely butchered his hair. It's not a little bad, it's REALLY bad. We have gone twice. The first time we had an excellent experience where my 2 year old left with a great cut. The second time was very bad. We asked for a trim and they cut off so much of my daughters hair- I try not to be picky but it was a REALLY bad cut. I think I'll try once more but another bad cut and won't return. read more

I wanted to find a place that specializes in children's haircuts, especially since it was our first time. Linh was fast, gentle and did a great job styling my little guy's hair. Very poor quality hair cut. We took our 5 y.o. daughter on 2/9/19 to get a trim and they cut her hair significantly uneven! Too bad I didn't realize it until after we had left. Also, the lady who cut her hair was waving her scissors super close to her face! Service was just ok. I have to say that I've had my son's hair cut by Linh and she is so, so, so wonderful. She gives great toddler boys haircuts, as she manages to keep that babyish look about my boy. HOWEVER, the owner - I'm assuming the grumpy old man that mans the counter is the owner - is something else. If he can't wait to read his Playboy magazine until he gets home or anywhere else besides this children's establishment, then he has no business at this place. Yep, you read right. While my 3 1/2 yr old son was getting his haircut, he was behind the counter reading a Playboy magazine. I don't care if he was reading it for the articles, don't do it in a toy store/haircut place! I am still in shock of what took place yesterday. If I could rate a 0, I certainly would. My husband called to see if we could get our 3 year old daughter in for a trim. The woman asked how quickly we could get there and we left right away. When we arrived, the woman rushed us into the chair. My daughter was crying and squirming. I knew at that point that we should have just gotten up and tried again another day but no. This woman already started what I will only refer to now as the MASSACRE. A trim turned into an extremely crooked 6 inches off my daughters long curly hair. I stood there in shock and then she was done. Maybe 5 minutes spent on us. The rest was foggy. My husband paid and we started out the door. As we got into our car, the woman rushed out of the storefront, obviously in a hurry. 1. She should NOT have told us she would cut our daughters hair if she was in a hurry to end her shift. 2. WTF. It's a child haircut place. I'm sure my kid wasn't the first to cry and make a scene. Working with children, you should know how to handle these situations. 3. If you are trying to cut a kids hair and they aren't cooperating, ask the parents to reschedule! And 4. How the #$@% does a trim turn beautiful curly hair down to her lower back into a shoulder length bob?! I will never take either of my kids to this place again. I have a 4 year old boy with mild/moderate autism who hates having his hair cut. His dad usually cuts it, but school pictures are next week so I thought I better have it done at a salon. I was more than a little nervous, I expected it to be a disaster. We went in when things were slow on a Tuesday morning and I brought an iPad with his favorite show downloaded. He was a little squirmy but the whole process took less than 15 minutes and he got to play with the train table when he was done. We saw Kim and I think she did a fantastic job, she even blended in his his crazy cowlicks. He left with a cute little faux hawk and asking to go back the the "barber" I call that a win! (They do have a lot of cool little toys at the front of the store which could be a problem if your trying to get out of there with only a haircut but my little guy was okay with just the free sucker.) read more

I know exactly what the below yelper is saying BUT I have to say if you took your kid to Linh, she would have done an exceptional job. My son is 3 years old and always goes to see Linh. She knows exactly how to cut his hair and what style it I would prefer. She is friendly, but not overly talkative as Bobbi. She takes her time with him and never holds his head down because she knows my son hates that! She always preoccupies him with the toys and is very good. My son has gone to Bobbi and she did him a really bad cut. I was pretty disappointed. She talks way too much and seems unsure of how to cut kids hair. I don't think she has much experience with smaller kids. Ever since we tried getting his haircut with Bobbi and wasn't happy with the cut, we've always just make appointments with Linh. My son never sits in the salon chair by himself and today was the first day that he did! =) I was so proud of him! He always looks forward to seeing Linh and getting a lollipop afterwards. Next time you should try LINH instead of Bobbi. Bobbi is nice and very friendly, but honestly she isn't very good. I definitely will go back to Linh. read more

Two stylists here, one chatty (Bobbi), one quiet (Linh). Both are efficient, fast, and good. You can hold a video game or talking Elmo board while you get your haircut... but they need more batteries. Be sure to allow extra time for the train table or the flannel board. They sell toys, too, so be forewarned. I've never seen a kid beg for a toy while there (even with their fine selection of Thomas the Tank Engine and Bratz). Weekends fill up, so make a reservation. Mornings are less crowded (which is key because there's really only room for two kids at the train table). If you can find a better salon with a train table, go there. This salon for kids is very reliable, warm with the children and has books and toys for playing with while you wait. They also have lollipops which are the main attraction for my daughter. But we have started going across the street to Heads instead, because they will wash my daughter's hair as well as cut it. It costs a bit more but getting her hair washed is such an ordeal that I'm happy to pay a little to have someone else do it once in awhile. If S C washed hair, I would happily have stayed. read more

I take my son here every now and then. It's by appointment only and as long as we get there on time the wait is short or not at all. Haircut is pretty simple and sometimes I have to request them to be a bit more detailed but they are happy to do it: I do feel like they are just bussing kids in and out of there and feel rushed but what can I say? They have a business to run and are efficient at what they do. The price is a little high at 19 dollars which doesn't leave room for a big tip. Having a couple train play tables make it nice to keep kids occupied while they are waiting. The toys they sell are overpriced and it always makes my kids whine when I don't buy any of that... I showed the hairdresser a picture of a boys style cut and said we wanted exactly that...and because she thought my son was a girl she gave him a feminine bowl cut. He's a gender fluid kid and I'm not upset with him having a "girls" cut, but we were trying to cut down on misgendering and teasing, not make it worse. So I will likely take him elsewhere for a fix.
