This is a fantastic service to have in Mammoth, run by a professional and friendly staff and hosting you safely around great scenery. Make an appointment and make sure you show up on time. If the weather holds out the finish line views are breathtaking. Reasonably priced but not cheap, doing this is a great alternative to downhill skiing. The guides take the time to allow for photos and swapping of approved riders. Our daughter is 17 and has a CDL. She absolutely loved the chance to drive the sled with Dad as passenger. This should be on your Mammoth to do list. Bring money to tip the guides as they truly pay attention to your enjoyment. read more

The absolute best thing we did during our Mammoth trip! My sister & I took my son out for the 1.5 hour tour and Kevin was our guy. I have never been on a snowmobile & it was only our second time being in the snow so I started the trip off nervous but felt like I wanted to do Winter X Games for snowmobiling by the time we got back! We had an amazing time on our double snowmobile today! We ended up being the only ones on the tour and Damon took us all over the mountain. The snowmobile itself was easy to drive and we were easily able to switch off so we could both give it a try. Loved the fun facts and all the interesting and beautiful stopping points along the way. O.M.G. I've never driven a snowmobile before. Now I understand why people buy bikes and quads. I took the $90 ride. I honestly think they should charge more. The 1.5 hours were plenty of really experience what snowmobiling was. The guide took us through the snowmobile trail through the woods and hills: uphill, downhill, sharp turns and corners. A part of the tour was having some free time to really try the snowmobiling in an open area. Riding through 3-feet deep snow, plowing across the tracks was something I'll never forget. We also saw some wild life inside the huge crater the guide took us to. The average speed of the snowmobile, in a single file, following the guide, was about 35 mph. The guide would seldom speed up to 40 and 45. In the open field, I got up to 53mph. SOOOOO MUCH FUN I'd imagine this is like riding a jet ski or a wave runner. I'm gonna have to try those out as well soon. Highly recommended. It's a great way to spend 1.5 hours not skiing or snowboarding. It's also a great way to really see the mountains. Advices: 1. DRIVE the snowmobile and don't get on as a passenger. It's much more interesting if you drive it. 2. Lower your visor on your helmet. Because the snowmobile in front of you will spit out small chunks of snow behind it, you WILL get smacked with a few snow/ice chunks. I got hit a few times. I had my visor up, however, to feel the wind on my face. :0) 3. Be the last person in the line. It allows you to fall back a bit and catch up. The group would travel at 35mph and I would fall back so I can accelerate to 45 to catch up. haha read more

I was hesitant doing this b/c I'm not a thrill seeker, nor have any experience with riding any other contraptions. However, it was my 50th bday and I wanted to do something memorable. It was my husband and I and two daughters, ages 11 and 14, so we rode double. We were assigned to a group that had no other kids and mostly younger men. I did not want to be the one holding up the group, however, Kevin, our guide, had me ride right behind him and he started us all off slow. It was not long at all before I felt comfortable and we were zipping along. We made several stops and Kevin shared great information - we even stopped on top of a hibernating bear cave. I'm SO glad we did this. I felt safe the entire time, the ride was breathtaking, and it was so much fun. This old mama felt pretty damn proud of herself too, lol! Just do it! I called to book an appointment a day before due to indecisiveness. I originally wanted 4 snowmobiles but due to being last minute, they only had 1 snowmobile available. Luckily, another guy changed his reservation from 9 AM to 2 PM, so another snowmobile freed up for me. I did the 1 hour tour and rode on a double. For 1 snowmobile, 1 person (single), it was about $100 and for 1 snowmobile with 2 persons (double), it was about $100 total as well. They led us around and up to the top to have a nice view of the mountains and the bottom. I did a double with my friend and we got to take turns driving! It was a lot of fun and the staff was all very helpful and friendly. I really recommend snowmobile adventures to people who are looking for something to do other than snowboarding or skiing. The only downside of my experience was that we were stuck behind a really bad driver who kept stopping at turns or driving very slowly. That was probably the only thing that hindered my experience to be super amazing, although it wasn't the company's fault. read more

What an amazing experience!! This is an absolute must in a Mammoth. And don't worry if you have never ridden a snowmobile, they give a full run down of the equipment and even give you a practice run. I want to give a special shout out to the Guy that gave my son (who has autism) a very special ride. It's always hard to find things he might like, always worried things might be too loud, too fast or just something he just isn't sure he wants to do. Best experience of my life. We got to Mammoth at 10 am and our room was not going to be ready until 3pm. It was windy to snowboard so I searched on Yelp for more activities and came across this page. The staff are friendly, they helped us understanding the guidelines and off we went. It was soooo pretty seeing all the white snow on the trees. We stopped at an open field where we just drove around. The snow was so fluffy, the sky was crystal blue, the air was fresh and crisp. Our session was about an hour and a half to two hours. What Sylvia H. said, but here's my review without making too much repeats of what she already mentioned. 1. I highly recommend making a reservation to hold your spot/s beforehand. They do get booked up and on the day we went, there were people on the "waiting list" who wanted to ride. 2. Parking/Transportation - parking is difficult here, but if you're strictly here for snowmobiling, you can park in the Mammoth Village Lodge ...just tell the employee at the gate...if you already have reservations, check in w/your reservation name - OR you can just take the Mammoth Village bus up if you're staying at a nearby hotel/lodge...red line it back 3. Gear - you can rent gear here ($4 a piece for gloves, pants, etc), but if you already have boarding/ski gear...that's good enough ....fyi - no ski boots allowed, but boarding boots are fine - helmets included w/cost of snowmobiling 4. If it's your first time, definately go w/the single snowmobile to get the full experience (i'm glad I did). There's nothing like having the power and freedom of riding a snowmobile in your own hands. 5. Guided tour was great. They are professional and ensure your safety. Our guide was friendly and helpful when giving the orientation. She went at a perfect pace allowing you to go at your own pace as well. She made sure to check up on the group every once in awhile to make sure that everybody was okay and was able to keep up w/the group. Best part was the "free ride" time. Our guide brought us out to an open area, about half hr into the ride, and just let us ride anywhere within the huge boundaries she set for us, take pictures, and take in the scenery...it was beautiful! 6. Trails are very well groomed and paths are clearly marked for the most part. 7. Awesome experience....would definately do it again! I need to get myself one of them snowmobiles now! read more

My family took the first tour of the season. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We did 2 doubles and took our girls (9yrs, 6yrs) with us. The trails were absolutely gorgeous. This is a really fun tour, especially if this is your first time snowmobiling-you're going to love it. After you've signed your waiver sheet and have been fitted for your helmet- They'll go over the basics on the snowmobile, gas, brake, off and on etc. You'll hop on and they'll take it moderately slow for the first 20 or so minutes making sure you understand how the snowmobile reacts to the throttle and brake. If your group(about 7 people per group) understands and has the jist of things, then you'll be taken to an open field for around another 20 minutes where you'll have the liberty of really testing the horsepower and enjoying the snowmobile to its capability. I got mine around 55 mph, anything over that felt unsafe. The guide took us back in what he described as an adventure route that isn't the usual trail, so we got to pummel through fresh snow and enjoyed the ride back. Once you've done their tour once, you can come back and rent a snowmobile without a guide as long as you have a partner that also has gone through the tour before. Will definitely be coming back. Thanks for the experience Tip: Bring gloves & Bring a scarf to wrap around your mouth for the cold and fumes of the snowmobile in front of you. read more
