Its almost a year that my hubby and I stayed here. I decided to plan a 4 day stay for his birthday. I'm glad I chose this place to spend our getaway. It was so cozy and warming. I only got to stay for a night and am totally bummed that I missed the cheese and wine in the evening. Our room was nice, and for the most part clean (there were only a couple spots in the shower tile that I noticed probably hadn't been scrubbed for a while but you could only see them if you were sitting in the tub). Our breakfast was awesome and the service here was great. The reason I am not giving five stars is because I got woken up several times in the early morning because of obnoxious people standing in and walking through the street that is right outside of the inn. Now, I will say they make an attempt to aid this by providing ear plugs on the night stands to you, but I really wish they had just done a better job of insulating the window and wall that faces the street. The Jacuzzi tubs weren't that big, but they weren't incredibly small either. They get the job done. If I am ever back on Catalina I will definitely try and stay here, but I will most certainly use the ear plugs next time! We visited Avalon for a quick weekend get-away in January when the prices are reasonable and the town is uncrowded and super chill. We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn and would suggest booking a room in the off season - I would imagine in the summer it would be quite loud with all the crowds in the center of town and so close to the beach (karaoke at the bar just down the way Fridays) - this is no way a reflection of the quality of the inn, I imagine all the hotels located in this area would be the same in the summer. I digress - the breakfast was very tasty and delivered in the cute basket like others have mentioned. The attention to detail throughout the inn make it a quality place to stay. Bose stereo, nice linens and fluffy duvet, fireplace and slippers as well as robes. We took several bubble baths in the in-room jacuzzi with jets which was a nice treat. On a side note: don't miss visiting the Casino while there it is BEAUTIFUL inside! read more

I took my husband on a long weekend and wanted a hotel that had a cozy feel and was located near the ocean. The Snug Harbor Inn provided exactly what I wanted. It is located on the main street in front of the beach, at Crescent and Summer Avenue. Upon arriving we were greeted by the most amazing people, which offered to store our luggage, until our room was ready. They contacted us via cell phone, and the room was prepared earlier than their posted time. We stayed in the Santa Catalina room, ocean front, with bay windows, fireplace, Jacuzzi, and a large flat screen. It rained a few times during our April visit, and it was a nice touch to enjoy the fireplace and a large television to enjoy, while waiting for the storm to pass. We had beautiful views of the harbor, where we watched the yacht's arrive all day long. Upon leaving the Inn, we were in the shopping district, full of restaurants and a few upscale shops for clothes, shoes and beach clothing. Golf carts and bikes aren't allowed in front of this hotel, which was nice. Being in the center of the main street, everything was close and an easy walk. The staff brought us a picnic basket for breakfast each morning. Fresh baked bread, juice, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, coffee and milk. In the evening (5 - 6 pm), they serve a small selection of wine, cheese, crackers and salami. Just enough as a pre-dinner snack. There is music, karaoke and when the bars close at 2 am, you know it. The hotel is upstairs from a karaoke bar. Even so, overall the Inn was fantastic and we will definitely visit Snug Harbor again. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would! Had a excellent experience while staying here, when my husband and I arrived our room wasn't ready so they held our bags so we could walk round. They called us maybe a hour later, once we came back they notified us they were upgrading us to a bigger room at no cost! The room was excellent, very clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. They offer wine and hor d'oeuvres in the lounge from 5-6. a red wine, Chardonnay ,and white zinfandel, different cheeses,crackers, salami, jalapeño dip and a spinach dip to die for! They have a DVD collection to choose from if you can't find a good watch on satellite. There is also a fireplace in every room, which was perfect for my stay since it started to rain a little. The staff is very nice and welcoming. I can't wait to come back, and I will definetly recommend this place to anyone! read more

It could have been an easy 5 stars! Found a perfect surprise for my girlfriend on her birthday, Snug harbor inn's birthday package. There may be room for improvement but the experience was great! Regular check in time is 3 pm but we wanted to explore the island before checking in so we took the first boat trip to catalina island. We arrived the hotel at 7:45am to leave our things but no one is there assist us since their front desk opens at 8. We know that we are super early but we received a confirmation email that they expected us to arrive 7:45am. It could have been nice if someone was already there when we arrived. The lady at the front desk arrived at 8 and immediately assisted us. It was so nice that they have a place to store our luggages before check in while we walk around the island. Around noon, we received a call that our room is ready so we were really excited that we get to check in early. They already took our bags to our room. We stayed at he Santa Barbara room and it is really nice! There was a wow factor! We almost don't want to get out of the room. There were ballons and champagne on the table as part of the package but how I wish, they did not forget the gift. It may be a simple gift but it could have taken the surprise on a different level. The bed is very comfortable, great sheets! We enjoyed the jetted tub but where are the plush robes? Huge television, fast internet connection. The hors d'oeuvres was a nice touch. And the breakfast is something that you will always remember! Warm banana loaf was delicious! You will definitely take pictures! I will not hesitate to recommend this wonderful place but I hope they pay attention to some small details. read more

WOULD NOT STAY HERE AGAIN OR RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. My boyfriend and I were trying to have a nice relaxing romantic trip. Instead, we wasted our money and had a really bad experience. We booked the romance package in the San Nicolas room, which is more expensive because of the view. The only thing that makes the romance package unique is there should be a bottle of champagne upon your arrival. We arrived around 9 am and our room was ready which was nice. The room is very small and the bathroom even smaller. The view of the main street and water is nice and we really enjoyed the fireplace. We asked the manager about our champagne and he said he would have it delivered when we returned from going out. So we went out and came back at 5 pm for the wine and hor d'oeuvres. Before this was delivered I tried to take a quick shower, but the water came out like a pathetic dribble. We had to get someone to fix it, which fortunately they were able to do quickly, but I was already not getting the luxury feel. The plate of hor d'oeuvres was pathetic. I was expecting at least brie cheese, but instead it was triangle slices of Colby jack, Swiss, and pepper jack as if they were from packages bought from the grocery store. It also included some Ritz crackers, grapes, a bowl of hummus, a bowl of nuts, some pieces of salami, and a few tomato/mozzarella skewers. Later we went out again for dinner and upon returning expected to take a bath in the "luxury deep tub", drink our champagne, and watch a DVD that they advertised in the package as having "unlimited DVD usage". Just after 9 pm we begin looking through the DVD options only to find they are all empty. You have to check them out, but there was no one working anymore! The front desk closed at 6. You could call their sister hotel until 9 if you needed something, but after 9 it was emergencies only. I thought we were staying at a hotel only to find out if we need anything we're on our own. No movie for us then. Next: bath. The jetted deep tub was nice, but at one point we turned off the jets and tried to turn them back on and the button wouldn't work and then the whole button came loose out of the tub. Definitely not feeling luxury or worth $600. Also at this time, no one ever made up or turned down our bed. The plate from wine/cheese was still in the room. In the morning breakfast was delivered right at the time we chose, and the yogurt/granola and fresh banana bread were nice. Unfortunately the meal takes up the only table in the room and no one comes to clear it away later, and it's not on a cart you can just roll out. We inquired about our champagne bottle again and complained about having no notice that no one would be working there after 6 pm when we were checking out at 11. The only response we got from management was that we could drink the bottle in the public lounge or take it to go. What a joke. Later the manager who we had talked to the day before and said the champagne would be in our room told us he refund us a whole $20 for the bottle if we didn't want to take it with us. I'm very disappointed with this experience. When you see on Google that it's a 2 star hotel it's not wrong. read more

I will only stay at Snug Harbor when visiting Catalina. All of the staff was super friendly and welcoming. We had to check in early because our boat came in early and they stored our bags and called us about an hour later letting us know our room was ready. I loved the room and I am very picky about hotel rooms. When I walked into the room it took my breath away because it was so special and romantic. The breeze when the windows were open was incredible. The bed was VERY comfy as well. My favorite part was all the extras - sleeping masks, slippers, ear plugs, robes, and the beautiful breakfast in the basket the next morning. Overall, best place in Catalina! read more

The Snug Harbor Inn is ideal for a couple's weekend getaway! The staff gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne when they learned that we were celebrating my birthday. There are a lot of thoughtful details in what they do; the fireplace was on when we first stepped into the room, they brought an orchid yesterday with breakfast, DVDs and Blu-Rays are available for you to borrow, etc. The evening wine&cheese also included dips, mixed nuts grapes and a couple additional appetizers. The whole staff has been courteous and helpful. We especially enjoyed meeting Maribel as she was very attentive and cheerful. I would recommend staying in the Santa Barbara room, which probably gives the best partial ocean view (out of the rooms priced similarly) because it's the nearest to that side of the building. We're already plotting our next trip to Catalina and Snug Harbor! read more

My husband and I booked our 3rd wedding anniversary trip here. We absolutely loved it! The staff were super helpful, got us in 2 hours before checkin, and they had our bags set up in the room and fire place lit when we walked in. Our room was pretty large, big tv, comfy bed, awesome jetted tub, mountain and ocean view, and beautiful decor. The breakfast is so delicious and delivered in a cute picnic basket and set up at the table for you. We were not bothered by any noise outside or in the hallway outside our door. My how time flies! It's almost been 1 year since we stayed at Snug Harbor and we are about to book our reservations again! We like to go in December, the off season. Not as many people, and the holiday decorations make for such a warm festive feeling. We did a lot of research on Catalina hotels and deals. and this is by far the BEST. In terms of customer service, cleanliness, attention to detail, food & wine, view, location, It wins 5 stars across the board. We stayed in the San Nicholas room. The fireplace was already going when the front desk receptionist ushered us to our mini palace. They had a lovely personalized note for us. We did get the romance package so a chilled bottle of champagne greeted us. The bed was very large and plush. The decorations tasteful and classy. The bathroom was just heavenly! There was a woman with a small dog so I assume they allow dogs if you have one. They have a large assortment of DVDs you can check out for a relaxing movie night. The wine and Hor d'Oeuvres in the evening were just what we needed. We brought a few small plates back to our room and enjoyed the crashing of the waves. We completely lost track of time and by the time we were hungry for dinner, everything was closed. There is a pizza place about two doors down from the entrance, they stayed up and made us a pie. We tipped them well :) and it was DELICIOUS! The only thing that was a little irritating, was the late night noise coming from the Main Street. Our window faced the street and a loud group of kids didn't want to go home. Snug Harbor had us covered, and had ear plugs and sleeping masks provided. The doorbell rang (yes, your room has a doorbell!) and our warm fresh breakfast arrived. We couldn't finish it, there was so much variety. We rented bikes and spent the day exploring the town. Some roads are steep!! Admittedly, I had a hard time biking all the way around the island. Good way to work off the banana bread! I read some yelp complaints about the hotel deposit. Have they never stayed in a hotel? The deposit is a very normal thing. Happens in every hotel we stay at. They put a $200 hold on your card. Upon departure they will release that hold. It's up to your bank to release the funds back into your account. Some banks may take up to 5-7 business days. Some hotels will take a cash deposit. I'm not sure if Snug Harbor does, but it's worth asking if you are worried about your account. Upon departure you would get your cash back immediately. Another complaint I read on yelp: switching ferry reservations. How this became an error on the hotel, I'll never know. It is common sense that you have a "cancelation window"on most bookings. If you miss that window there is going to be a charge. Duh. Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations. I'm not sure what it's like during peak season summer, but during winter it is a perfect escape. Can't wait to book again! We enjoyed 4 nights at this lovely Inn! The location is perfect, on the harbor, & close to many shops, activities & restaurants... The Inn has 6 rooms, located above shops along the harbor & Sumner Ave. Our room was beautiful! We enjoyed the slippers, toiletries, and the delicious breakfast that was brought to our room each morning! The breakfast was set up, complete with a table cloth, cloth napkins, juice, granola, milk, yogurt, fresh berries, coffee, cream, sugar, butter & a mini loaf of delicious warm bread. I wish I had the recipes for the breads they delivered, a different one each day - Morning Glory, Lemon Poppy Seed, Cranberry Orange & Banana Nut. We met 7 or 8 members of their staff during our stay, who were so friendly and accommodating! They offered so many great extras that made our stay wonderful! I stayed here for two nights with my husband for our honeymoon, and it was great! I asked if they could do something anything special being it was our honeymoon, and they gave a full bottle of champagne in the room free of charge. Plus they held our bags until we could check into the room (which they allowed us to do a bit early) and also after we checked out until our boat left. Fantastic customer service on that end. The continental breakfast was really good, as well. They give you a card so you can choose when you want it delivered, and they were always right on time. We always had leftovers but still left full. The wine and cheese in the afternoon was very good, too. They had different kinds of wine and even sparkling apple cider for us kids. :P It was pretty delicious and they restocked it almost as soon as anything ran out. The view from the room was pretty good even though we only got the Santa Barbra room. I enjoyed it a lot, and the natural lighting was beautiful. I definitely recommend it. This is a very charming hotel! We stayed on a Sunday night on a deal that included the room, wine and cheese in the evening, a continental breakfast and the cost of the boat ride over. It was worth every penny! We stayed in the Anacapa room. It was beautiful and romantic. The staff were very helpful but not intrusive. We arrived early on the Catalina Express and the hotel checked us in, took care of our luggage while we had lunch and explored the town. When our room was ready they had a fire in the fireplace which was a very welcoming touch! In the evening they offer a wine and cheese set up which was very pretty and tasty. Definitely worth going to. In the morning we a continental breakfast that was really nice. Coffee, juice, fresh berries, yogurt, granola and a delicious warm cinnamon bread all presented very nicely. Spent two nights here while we were visiting Catalina. Brief rundown: *Amazing room! The room was very well put together and goes toe to toe with any bed/breakfast/inn I have had the pleasure of staying at. I can never sleep when away from my own bed, but the one that Snug Harbor has was the best I have had other than my own. *Service was very friendly. The serve a wine/cheese appetizer in the afternoons, and deliver a continental breakfast every morning. Both are perfect and give the Inn the extra edge over other places on the island. My only minor complain was that it took a while to get someone to help us each time we were at the front desk, but the irritation was minimal. *Warning: small bathroom! At least in our room (the Santa Barbara). It is not a big deal, the bathroom is still very exquisite, but if you are expecting a huge bathroom for $300 a night, you won't get it here. *Perfect location in the middle of Avalon. Everything is right there within walking distance, and is also right up on the main boardwalk. The one negative with that is that a lot of the outside noise makes it into the room. We were here during the middle of the week and it was still pretty annoying at night, I probably would have gotten crazy on someone if we were there during the weekend. Overall, I don't think we could have found a better place to stay. It was absolutely beautiful, relaxing, and perfect for my wife and myself. read more

Maybe this rating isn't fair. I haven't stayed anywhere else in Avalon. Maybe everywhere is heaven, but somehow, I think not. Let me start with the wine and cured meat, cheese, and cracker platter they had going on in the lobby when we arrived. And then again when we checked out. They do it every evening. Really cute. The girl at the front desk was very helpful and very friendly. She really made us feel comfortable. My boyfriend and I bought coffee mugs from the front when we left to remember our time and trust me, we usually never bother with that kind of thing. The rooms are adorable, comfortable, and fairly quiet, especially considering how close they are to the Avalon nightclubs. If I go back to Catalina, I would definitely try to come here again. read more

Visited this small, tucked away treasure lodge about a year ago. What an awesome experience! It was my first time visitng Catalina Island and this little inn really completed my island escape themed adventure. The room was incredibly relaxing! Its beachy, island decor, perfect fireplace, super comfy mattress and bedding put me at ease right away! The room was equiped with a BOSE radio system, DREAM machine (plays relaxing ocean and nature sounds), slippers, ear plugs, sleep mask, huge jacuzzi tub and rainfall shower head. I'm generally a pancakes, eggs and sausage kind of person when it comes to breakfast on vacation. But I have to admit their bannana nut bread, granola cereal, yogurt, fruit, orange juice, and coffee complimentary breakfast was pretty good! Snug Harbor was a great place to stay...pricey, but well worth the buck spent. Only complaint, the room faced the noisy night club across the street and was a little disenchanting. The clubbers kept me awake till about 2:30am but I suppose that's what the ear plugs were for. I think there are other rooms available away from the club if preferred. Also, I kinda expected a warm complimentary breakfast option for the 3 nite room price paid. Overall, I still loved it and these two things did not affect my stay significantly. read more

I love this cozy little dollhouse! First saw it when I visited Catalina last year and was staying at the condos on the hillside, and I thought this place looked so cute, and it really was. Stayed here this past November for a weekend. They only have five or six rooms, so book ahead if you want it. Right on the harbor area of Avalon, great location. The rooms are small, but darling in decor and high ceilings and windows so you don't feel cramped. The bathroom was old fashioned but modern amenities. It's really like a B&B where you visit with the other guests in a small sitting room drinking the wine and eating the crackers that are included with your stay, and it's fun if you're a social sort who likes to meet new people. They also deliver you a basket of goodies in the morning, which were delicious, from a local bakery. Service was good and unobtrusive. I would recommend Snug Harbor heartily, especially for a romantic couples weekend. read more

My husband and I came to Catalina Island for a couple days after our wedding for a mini-honeymoon and stayed here the whole time. We were VERY pleased by Snug Harbor Inn! It was so clean, cozy, romantic, and the staff was amazing! When we first arrived to our ocean front room (San Nicolas room), there were fresh flowers, balloons, and chilled champagne to congratulate us on getting married. This was such a nice gesture and a great surprise. There are only 6 rooms, so you really get the bed and breakfast feel. From 5-6pm, they serve wine and hors d'oeuvres in the lounge which was quite nice (some cheese, crackers, fruit etc). Later on, someone comes to your room to give you water and chocolates. We loved the breakfast that they served in the morning. They serve you coffee/tea, orange juice/v8, granola, yogurt, milk, fresh berries, and a freshly baked bread (when we were there it was cranberry orange one morning and banana nut another morning). There was a fireplace in our room which made it extra cozy. They also have satellite tv which was very nice and a nice dvd library where you can check out DVD's. The staff was great and I cannot speak highly enough of this great find! When we come back to Catalina Island, we will definitely stay here again. read more

We were celebrating a birthday. Our room had Champagne, fresh flowers, balloons and a present. Nice! Our Concierge, Alex, was awesome. He made us feel right at home. Everyone there was very accommodating. We went to look at Snug Harbor's sister hotel, Vista Del Mar. Wow another beauty. Alex was nice enough to give us a tour of one of their suites. Nice! Phenomenal inn in the heart of Avalon. We stayed in the San Nicolas suite and were simply blown away. Gorgeous view! The room was quaint (nice way to say small), but you cannot beat the view... woke up to direct views of the pier and the casino. In-room breakfast was tasty, set up on a table overlooking the shore. The hotel staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive... among other things, they called us before our arrival to ask what time we expected to be on the island, then held our luggage, and phoned us once our room was ready. read more

Absolutely the best service and stay I've had at a hotel ever! The room was spotlessly clean, cozy and comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic, and as we were checking in we could smell the fresh bread baking for the next day. Richard was so helpful, kind and a great host. All of the staff was friendly, but Richard really went above and beyond. We stayed for 1 night as a last minute getaway at for my birthday and we're dying to go back. After staying at the Snug Harbor Inn, my husband and I will not stay there again. Not only did we receive horrible customer service prior to arriving, but when checking in we were helped by a gentleman who never mentioned he was charging our card 200$. I understand most hotels like to keep a card on file in case something were to happen, but I've never actually had one charge my account 200$ and then not tell me!!! Not to mention we have already checked out and I have still not got it back. On top of the we did not pack beach towels because online they advertise that they will provide them if you ask, when we got there the brochures in the front also state they will provide them, however when we went to go request beach towels as we went out for the day the person at the front desk said they no longer provide them! UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE & BROCHURE!!!! It cost us another 30$ to buy beach towels since the Snug Harbor Inn advertised they provided them so we didn't bring our own! So ridiculous! Then how tasteless is it that when the manager responds arguementivly to my yelp review that she puts our personal information into her post. The so called manager of this inn should not be a manager she does not know what customer service means, and will argue or be distasteful to keep the upper hand. While staying on the island my husband and I saw many other beautiful hotels that we will consider in the future!!! We will also not recommend this hotel to anyone! read more

They were so discourteous on the phone, and only when we looked on review sites did we see that they allowed kids there, but their policy and "excuses" showed a surprising lack of care towards guests. read more

Back when I was still wooing my SO, I took him here, and boy did it work. We spent the weekend in the Santa Catalina room which has a great view of Avalon Bay. We feel asleep to the noise of the boats in the harbor and woke up to Sue (the super-nice Inn Keeper) bringing us the best breakfast ever. They offer wine and cheese in a little lounge in the evenings, which is a good way to get to know some of the other guests without it being too "bed-and-breakfast" like (I'll take wine over waffles anyday!). It's been almost five years, and we still talk about our stay there. Highly recommended for a great weekend getaway. read more

Stayed here for two nights for my husband and mine's mini honeymoon. Place has excellent reviews so we thought it sounded promising. We opted for the Santa Barbara suite as it was in the mid range price wise and had received many commendations on it's nice cozy vibe. The Santa Barbara Suite is one of the smallest yet nicely appointed hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. The bathroom is an interesting collection of angles and turns and if you walk out too quickly odds are you many knock your head on the fireplace mantle (if you're 5'4" like me). Beautiful room but I would spend more next time to stay in one of the larger suites at the hotel. Not sure if we ran into some bad luck after the busy summer season but several things in our room didn't go so well. First stop after checking in I used the restroom and we had an overflowing toilet on our hands. Seems that a situation from a few previous guests had been brewing and we were the lucky recipients of spending time with the very cordial maintenance dude who had to snake the toilet. Do they really believe you when you say the poop isn't yours? Remains to be seen... Later that evening we tried the fireplace that gets such rave reviews only to find that it didn't work. We alerted the front desk staff about the issue and she said they were aware of it and she thought maintenance had ready fixed it. No attempt to send anyone in to check it out was made. I didn't push it, but it wasn't offered either. No fireplace for us. Checkout morning and the hairdryer doesn't work-my wet hair and I go to the front desk to get it replaced. Minor stuff all adding up to cracking jokes about the next thing that will break. I would stay here again but I definitely recommend that a good once over of the facility happens in the near future. This is a luxury hotel through and through, so all of the issues that came up just seemed out of place for such a high level establishment. My husband and I just got back from our mini-moon at Catalina where we stayed at the Snug Harbor Inn. We loved it here! The room (San Clemente) was so nice and quaint, and the bed was the most comfortable bed we ever slept in. The staff were so helpful and so friendly -- it was a pleasure talking with them about the island. They were so helpful with island information/suggestions and with making our reservations for us. We enjoyed the in-room breakfasts and wine/cheese hour, and we loved that they had a dvd library. I was seasick from the boat coming to the island so it was so nice when they let us check-in early and we could lie down and relax with a movie. Will definitely stay here again the next time we come to Catalina. Thank you for the exceptional service! read more

Snug Harbor is a charming little inn. Very cute. Different vibe compared to it's sister hotel, the more upscale "Hotel Vista Del Mar". We split the weekend between both. The amenities were dope! Beach chairs, towels, wine & cheese, in room fire place, robes, slippers, jacuzzi tub, breakfast. Service was very hospitable and helpful. Awesome little place. You can choose your own "themed" room. Aside from decor, and a slight difference in size, the only other difference is the view. We got the "San Clemente" room because of availability. It was located at the beginning of hall directly across from the front desk. The hallway is pretty narrow so we could hear people checking in and out. Also there was an ice machine, or air conditioning machine, or some sort of machinery, at the end of our side of the hall just outside the door. We could hear that rattling off every now and then. But the worst was being right across the street from a club. Even with our windows shut I could hear it bumpin' well into the night. I don't know if the other rooms escaped it but our window overlooked the front door. I recommend getting a room further down the hall with an ocean view. Might cost more but it'll be worth it! All rooms are one bed and bath. Rates go $200-$400. Based on season and room view. The hotel also offers special romance and birthday packages as well as spa, adventure, and VIP packages. Reading this review back, it sounds like I'm complaining but we really enjoyed this place. The good outweighed the bad. I'd be back, but in another room fer shure! ;) read more
