Afternoon wine and cheese
Blake R.

I was torn to write a review because I don't want the entire world to know about the best kept secret on the island. This is the only place you need to stay in Catalina. The location is in the heart of everything. The rooms were clean and the beds were amazing. We loved they have beach chairs to use and are steps from a beach. John was so nice and exceeded expectations. The breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese were a fantastic touch. We can't wait to come back and stay again.

We stayed in the San Nicolas Suite for our mini-honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect! Smaller room, but we were on the island to explore and sleep (wink, wink) so didn't need an elaborate room. There was a nice little sitting area with a table and chairs overlooking the beach and boardwalk area. From our full-ocean-view room we could see the Casino, the Pier, the ocean waves, we could people watch and enjoy the twinkle lights that lit up at night with soft quiet music playing. It was so relaxing and sweet. We were welcomed to a flickering fireplace, light jazz music and a welcome appetizer spread on our table. Juan was absolutely the perfect host for our stay. We didn't lack for anything. He even helped us re-arrange our trip home. Such a kind and caring man. Our stay was really warm and bright blue skies, we enjoyed our early light breakfast and then explored as much as we could, came back to the room for the 3:00 snacks served in our room. We opened up the windows so we could feel the ocean breeze through our room and cool off before heading out to have an early dinner and go for a nice long walk. The boardwalk was quiet at night, we slept with our windows open and never had any surprise craziness below. We were there from Tuesday through Friday, so weekends may be a different story. Our stay at Snug Harbor included the trip over on the Catalina Express, which was really nice so we didn't have to try to coordinate. One less thing to worry about when planning a wedding and honeymoon. The price for the Inn was reasonable and the location was perfect and centrally located to everything we wanted to experience. Please please please give Juan our gratitude for his fantastic hospitality. The entire staff was warm and welcoming though. We WILL be back! XOXOXO

My wife and I spent our Anniversary weekend in the San Nicolas room. The view is amazing and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The evening wine and snacks were great and we couldn't have asked for a better stay; we'll certainly be back next year.

View from San Nicholas room

Cozy San Nicholas room with excellent view and a super comfy bed. It was quiet, the fireplace with a switch was delightful, the TV huge, the jetted tub a treat, and Johnny was very accommodating. Hop skip and a jump to everything I wanted. Not a full service hotel but the evening wine and snacks and the breakfast carrot bread, yogurt, coffee, etc was very welcome.

Breakfast fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, a loaf of blueberry bread, V8 juice, milk and coffee.

This is a five star hotel experience . Amazing views of the beach while you have complimentary breakfast. Staff very friendly and was able to hold our luggage before and after our stay. It's pretty hard to walk around carrying everything if you arrive earlier or need to check out but your ferry isn't ready to leave yet. Food was great and very clean comfy room.

Our room was the one on the corner. Super cute.

We booked a trip to Catalina for my birthday and found this cute hotel to stay at. It was very clean, cute, and centrally located...three of my favorite things. The workers were all very nice and helpful. We were able to check in early which was great but if you cant check in early they are flexible and will allow you to drop your luggage off unit check in. We stood in the Santa Catalina Room which was perfect, it was a corner room with beautiful harbor views. While we were there we were able to watch a concert from our window. The hotel provided a beautiful breakfast with granola, yogurt, fresh baked bread, coffee, oj, and mill. It was a perfect start to our day. They also brought us daily wine with cheese meat and crackers which I thought was a nice touch. Since they don't have turndown service because of covid they also come by and bring you chocolates and water. We loved everything about this place and will definitely return!

Breakfast!

We had a lovely time at Snug Harbor Inn. We celebrated my birthday. They let us check in early which was awesome. Lots of special touches to make everything nice. And the bed was really comfortable. The breakfast was perfect, delicious coffee, warm poppy seed bread, orange juice, granola and fresh fruit. I loved the location, sometimes it nice to be walking distance to the beach, shopping and great restaurants. Our favorite restaurant was the Lobster Trap. Highly recommend!

Wine and snack plate delivered every day at 4pm

The customer service at this hotel truly makes you feel pampered and taken care of. Without a doubt one of the best stays I've had in a while. Our room was ready for us to check in by 10am at no additional cost as opposed to 3/4pm like most places. When we entered our room, they had a bottle of champagne, balloons, and a card congratulating us for our recent marriage. We left for a few hours and when we got back to our room, we had 2 glasses of wine and a small charcuterie board waiting for us. They delivered this every day of our stay. The following morning, they brought us breakfast to the room and set it up really nicely. Breakfast was on time and delivered exactly at the time frame we had selected. Front desk had beach chairs and towels that they let us borrow for the day. They also had a variety of DVDs available for guests (be sure to get it front them before they leave for the night.) We had a romantic movie night with the fireplace on and a great view. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. This hotel goes above and beyond to ensure you have a pleasant, relaxing stay.

The hotel gifted us a bottle of Champagne and an anniversary card.

Long story short, after first one night we had to leave! I showed up at Venessa's desk telling her the story and in no time (hotel close to fully booked-summer break!), She found us a 2 queen room, got us an early complimentary check in (we've stayed at Metropole numberous time), but offered us a champagne in the room. What a hospitality! We did not expect this type of compation and problem solving, a true representative of Hotel Metropole. Now the pros: Location is amazing, navigation around the hotel or around it is perfect, close to everything, especially the breakfast shop on presmises and of course customer service. The room was exceptionally clean, I saw the service ladies actually mopping the floors after vacancy of other rooms. cons: second floor rooms overlooking the courtyard, get loud because of the shops. If you want to sleep in passed 9am, it's not happening. For some reason, shop people like to roll their garbage out either 6am or 11pm...at least when we stayed there which was June 9-12, 2026.

The continental breakfast is a great way to start your day. I also appreciated the lobby elevator for my tired feet at the end of the day. The rooms are large, have a mini fridge for use & air conditioning that actually cools the room. The tippy top was the champagne delivered to our room for my birthday thank you Hotel Metropole! Taxi service from the dock is apx $20 via Catalina Taxi & Tours. We used the Ride Circuit app to book the short taxi trips ex from Casino back to Hotel was $4 with tip.

Had numerous stays at the Inn at Mt Ada and Pavillion over the last decades, but have found that the location of The Pavillion was it's big plus. The main issue over the last twenty years, is the Catalina Island Company taking the Avalon charm out and replacing it int a cash cow. Late in 2024, The Pavillion shut down for an overhaul, didn't reopen until April 1st of 2026. We were anxious to check out the improvements, but we're sadly disappointed. They DID upgrade the rooms to a certain extent, but increased the room charge to $100.00 + per night. They previously had a great breakfast included, along with an evening wine hour. The "breakfast" is now rolls, coffee, juice and cereal. The evening wine is restricted to one glass, closely monitored. They have a wine machine if u choose to pay an additional charge. From the increase in rates to the minimal extras, the hotel has definitely gone down hill. It's a small town with limited hotels in good locations, so you have to be content for getting price gouged for less services or go to the inner part of town and loose the waterfront charm. By the way, their reconstruction crew did a terrible job. The front door and sliders didn't work well. The sliders didn't lock, out of alignment and the entry door needed two hands to try forcing entry. Look forward to their response.

So, I walked around town by myself and explored all the hotels. I walked into this hotel and was invited to view the rooms by the owner. The minute I saw the rooms, I was in love. I booked this hotel and the Avalon Suite half a year ago. The moment my husband and I got off the boat and walked over to the hotel, the staff was amazing. An attendant saw me going up the stairs with my luggage and ran down to get my heavy luggage and carry it up the stairs for me. Check in was easy breezy. Our room was ready within minutes and we got to go into it at 11am. The Avalon suite was the room all the way down the hall on the left hand side. I believe we are one of the few rooms with an extra large jetted bathtub, the main reason why we chose this particular room at this hotel. I made sure to take photos of all the rooms the minute I walked in so I could write this review complete with photographs of the way we found it. The living room had a fireplace and a tv above the fireplace, a comfortable couch and a sofa. We had two small tables in the room. The room had excellent heating and air conditioning which we controlled at the touch of a button. We of course had a separate bathroom with jetted tub, two sinks, and a nice and large counter top. In the living room, we had another sink with a small refrigerator and two complimentary bottles of water. We had a safe next to the refrigerator which we did not use. The bathroom had a separate small room with just the toilet which we loved because after using the toilet and making a stink, we could turn on the light/ventilator which worked really well at clearing out the smell and close the door. The bedroom was a bit cramped, especially at the foot of the bed in front of the fireplace, but we had a large living room that made up for it. The bed itself was very comfortable and firm, the linens were clean. However, I got really cold on the first night I was there and had to request extra blankets which they promptly brought us. Also, the extra large pillows on the bed were extremely uncomfortable, forcing us to throw it to the side in the middle of the night. I think it's just there for decorative purposes. We found two extra regular pillows in the closet which we made good use of. The room had a small closet with plentiful hangers. There were dresser drawers we made good use of. There were two lamps, one by each side of the bed on top of a dresser with drawers. I loved the space on top of the dresser for me to place my medication and phone and watch chargers. There were plentiful chargers, USB and C type. Although the chargers on my husband's side of the bed wasn't working and I had to charge all of the electronic devices on my side. One thing about the jacuzzi tub. The wall next to it is really thick and we both had a really hard time getting into and out of it. We were both afraid of falling down and had to climb up slowing, stand on top of the little wall area, and climb into the tub and vice versa each time we used it. Other than that, I have no complaints about this hotel. The rooms are only made every third day we stay and we can tell them when is most convenient for them to do that for us. Everything else we need is brought to us by texting them. The hotel had warm Otis Spunkmeyer cookies each evening, though we only ate it one evening because we were out the other evenings. A member of the staff told me to call him so he could place the cookies in our room while we were gone, but I forgot to call each time. Someone came in our room and placed Ghirardelli chocolates with a cold bottle of water for each of us each evening we missed the cookies. Someone even came in one time and made our bed for us which was really sweet. The staff were all so wonderful and warm, making us feel right at home. And when we got tired, we sat in the chairs at the front of the hotel overlooking the beach below while sipping complementary coffee, tea, and lemon infused cold water. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying here.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful, friendly and accommodating. Evelyn was awesome, thank you for the smiles and truly wonderful service throughout our stay. Off the boat, we went to drop our luggage to store until check-in. After we returned from an adventure, they allowed us to sit on the patio and enjoy the sun before we had to be at our boat. We couldn't have asked for a better stay, and we will absolutely go back. Just a note for anyone who has mobility issues. The hotel is awesome, but note that you have to walk part way up a little hill to reach the stairs to the small lobby. There are stairs to the lobby and depending on which floor your room is located, there is no elevator, just stairs. The problem had nothing to do with them it was an error on our end. Oliver D and Lily could not have been more helpful and efficient in assisting us. The room was extremely nice. The only suggestion I would make is in regard to the small window that is by the door connecting to the other room. The window is right by a street light. There needs to be a black out blind on that as the light shines through the shut blind The bed was extremely comfortable. The shower had wonderfully hot water with great pressure. All boats to and from Catalina Island were cancelled on 2 days of my visit, forcing other guests to change their travel plans. I ended up being the sole guest for all 3 nights of my stay here! With some whispers of Mt Ada being haunted (but not as many as Banning House Lodge in Two Harbors), I was a bit concerned, but fortunately had no paranormal experiences. To briefly review Mt Ada's history, it was once the Catalina home of William Wrigley Jr. and family, of chewing gum and Chicago Cubs fame. He was instrumental in putting Catalina "on the map", and his descendants still own the Catalina Island Company, which runs Mt Ada, Hotel Atwater, Pavilion Hotel and Banning House Lodge, as well as other businesses. All my stays at Mt Ada have been with the Company, although it was previously run as a private B&B. Mt Ada still runs as a B&B, as opposed to a hotel. It's a pricey stay but has many many perks that justify the expense. These include transportation to and from the boat or helicopter terminals, use of a golf cart throughout your stay, daily made-to-order breakfast and lunch, pre-breakfast continental breakfast, afternoon wine/cheese/charcuterie, 24-hour butler's pantry with snacks like gelato, chips, cookies and popcorn plus alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, discounts on Island Company tours and activities. Currently there are about 4 main people interacting with guests at Mt Ada, plus "behind the scenes" kitchen and housekeeping staff. My past reviews have mentioned a stay here is more like a visit to a home, as opposed to a hotel. There will be times when you may not see any staff (especially at night). But Pierre, Liz, Tim and Yoli (Yollie?) work their hardest to accommodate guest needs--they are the chauffeurs, front desk, waiters, luggage handlers, concierges, etc. I applaud them all. One of Mt Ada's pluses is its location on the hill (Mt Ada) above Avalon Bay, even above the main Bay viewpoint that all the rental golfcarts stop at (traffic jams are common here). It's quite peaceful, although in busy times the noise from "downtown" does carry uphill. Mt Ada has 6 rooms. The room I booked was the Grand Suite, Mr. Wrigley's former bedroom. It's the largest room, with a separate living and bedroom, a bathroom with a separate shower and tub, and a large terrace above the first floor terrace. It has a fireplace, as do 3 other rooms, and a raised bed that requires stairs to access, as does one other room. The living room has an antique "radio" that is seen in photos with Mr. Wrigley. There are radio stations hand-written on it; I was appalled to see "graffiti" defacing this historic relic. The terrace is fabulous, but alas the weather prohibited much use; I feared the high winds would blow the cushions on the chaise lounges over the railing. Even the dining tables on the first floor terrace were stored; in more temperate weather it's the loveliest place to enjoy breakfast or lunch. The breakfast and lunch menus have some new items and some old faves. Once again a fabulous and peaceful stay. Thanks again to all the staff. With the Pavilion Hotel reopening soon, Mt Ada may be the next property to undergo renovations. I hope it does not lose its charm or homey character.

The towels were comfy and clean and they gave us more towels when our room wasn't clean the second night we stayed after we asked them. The outside the patio was amazing. We had a gorgeous view of the city behind us and the ocean in front of us. We loved to sit outside in the comfy chairs and just soak up the view and drink coffee/tea that was provided for us with a Kuerig machine. We had plenty of free water bottles and ice and kept asking for more and more because we drink like fish and they gave it to us all for free. The room had a couch and a little table, but the table was too short for my husband to use his laptop. He said he would have liked a bigger table, but we made do with what we had. Also, there were no nightstands in the room and the closet space was very, very small, just a small wooden box in the room with only enough space to hang our jackets. There were no real drawers to place our clothes in so we left them in the luggage the entire time. The bathroom was made of beautiful Italian marble with a large bathtub that we filled to the top with warm water for our nightly bath soaks. The only thing we didn't like about the bathroom was that the toilet was right next to the wall, giving us little room to sit and do our business and the sink had no area around it to place our bathroom essentials except for a really, really small glass area above the sink to place our toothbrushes. We took really long naps while we were there with the air conditioner on full blast and really loved our bed. It was sooooo comfortable. Also, our room had a refrigerator where we placed food we bought from the market and left over food from the restaurant. We are definitely coming back again to the Bellanca hotel for a simlar Studio Suite room, hopefully next time, a bigger one light last time, but even though there were things we didn't like about this room, we may request the same room again because the view outside looking towards the ocean was amazing. Oh, and the hotel gave us two free drink vouchers worth $15 each for mixed drinks at the Naughty Fox which we used and enjoyed.

We both enjoyed our stay at the Bellanca. Our reservation was for three nights and four days and…read morethey performed maintenance efficiently.
