Wow, it has been years since I've written a review, yet I feel strongly enough to do so today…read more My daughter has been going to Academy 831 for the past year or so, and she started when she was around 4 years old. In the beginning, I enjoyed having my daughter here because there are big windows where I can see how she is doing, and the place is clean and spacious enough to not feel crowded. That is still the case, and the front staff is very friendly, accommodating, and informative with everything that goes on at this studio. I have had very little interaction with the owner so I can't speak to that, but overall this place seemed like a good fit for the past year or so. However, over the past 6 months or so, I've noticed a change in my child's behavior when it comes to participating in dance class. I believe that difficult situations can make my kid stronger in most regards, so I chose to observe rather than pull her out of dance as soon as she wanted. I am able to take my daughter to dance class every other Wednesday, and what I've observed is a complete lack of empathy, compassion, and kindness from Miss Megan, one of the dance teachers that teaches on Wednesday's from 5-6 pm. Over the course of a few months, I noticed some instances that I kind of brushed off as structure and a part of the growth process; but now that I look back on it, I was so very wrong. Some instances include: when my kid was having a bloody nose before dance class and she wanted to come out to blow her nose during class, Miss Megan did not allow her to. When my kid said she needed to use the restroom, Miss Megan did not allow her to. I have heard Miss Megan say, "you're fine, you don't need your Mommy" on multiple occasions. Yesterday, was my final straw. Yesterday, my kid was having a rough day. She fell during class, and she had a noticeable cry out. She looked like it hurt her to continue. I opened the class door to say "what happened?" Miss Megan said "oh she just fell, she's fine." Did Miss Megan physically walk over to check on her? No. Later on towards the class, my kid got her finger slammed by the door while going into the classroom after changing into her tap shoes. She immediately fell to the floor. While I'm holding my 2 year old, I yell out to my husband to go help my child who is on the floor in tears from the pain. Where is Miss Megan? Sitting on her bottom. The only thing she moved were her eyes. Not even a single intent to move her body to check on an injured child. This speaks volumes to how much she cares about the children she "teaches." Thank you to the owner, Christa (I'm gathering from yelp review replies), for offering an ice pack, as I'm fumbling to try to get a cold water bottle from the vending machine, and a bandaid for my inconsolable child. My kid's finger has a huge cut and her nail is black and blue, I wouldn't be surprised if the nail falls off during the healing process. I'd like this to serve as a reminder. These "dance teachers" are teaching CHILDREN. Children have immature brains and cannot process situations easily. They need to feel safe and nurtured and they need to feel like their basic needs can be met easily, such as having the freedom to use the bathroom when they need to or find their Mommy to blow their nose if they can't breathe through it. We will be finishing up this "season" of dance because my kid likes to perform, and we will be looking for a new studio that has a little more compassion and passion for teaching children. I'm a pediatric provider, and this is 100% NOT the way we should be treating our kids. As long as Miss Megan is a teacher at this school, there is no place for my children here.

The beginner series is a thoughtful introduction, the instructors are compassionate and knowledgeable, and the studio is always clean and welcoming. There are four poles, and while you sometimes share, it's part of the fun! You learn from each other, and the teachers keep everything safe and inclusive at every level. What makes this studio special is the way it builds not just strength, but confidence and connection to your femininity. I've been coming for 2.5 years and have been amazed at how capable I've become and how supported I feel. Jenny, the owner, keeps the curriculum fresh and there are monthly members-only workshops that deepen your practice and teach you the coolest moves. Personally, this studio has been life-changing. After a miscarriage, it gave me a safe place to heal, and years later I was able to celebrate my twin pregnancy here at my baby shower here! It's been a source of strength, joy, and empowerment through every season of my life. If you're on the fence, just try the 3 classes!!! It's not just fitness, it's community and a beautiful way to reconnect with yourself.

I've tried studios other than inversion but the vibe just isn't the same as here. The girls and atmosphere are immaculate. I've never felt so comfortable and confident to just be myself. I'm never scared to try new things here. The staff is professional, energetic, and motivating. They dim the lights upon request during open workouts and often let you choose your own music. If you're looking for a fun hobby then this is it ! Plus my body has never felt stronger ! Thanks to everyone that works here !

The love and dedication these teachers pour into their students is unmatched. Now 11, 15, and 16, my girls have grown so much--not just as dancers, but as people. They've learned discipline, teamwork, time management, commitment and built friendships that will last a lifetime. My two older daughters now dance competitively in high school, and their training at Studio J prepared them for it all. The new location is beautiful--such a fresh, fun space that the dancers are excited to be in. It's so special to see the studio grow under a teacher who helped shape my girls from a very young age. I also completed all required waivers and double-checked through text messages whether there were any additional documents I needed to sign. I was told everything was good. However, 10 minutes after I dropped my daughter off, the front desk staff member (Sarah) called and told me that I actually needed to stay in the studio during the trial and that my daughter could not participate because of a "miscommunication" on their end -- apparently she needed another evaluation before being allowed into the class. After I had already driven a long distance and carefully confirmed everything beforehand, they simply asked me to come back another day. This level of disorganization and lack of professionalism is frustrating. On top of that, the overall environment did not give the impression of a serious training program. Even if classes were free, I would not return.

Coming back to dance felt intimidating, but last year I found Uno's Dance on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I was nervous returning to dance, but I'm so glad I did. I was specifically looking for open-level adult classes and thought it would be fun to try a K-pop class. From the very first class, I realized this isn't just a typical dance studio--it truly feels like a community. Uno teaches full dance covers of entire songs, incorporates formations, and even films the dances in costume, which makes the experience feel complete and rewarding. There are also opportunities to perform throughout the year, which is a huge plus if you enjoy performing or want something to work toward. The environment is welcoming, supportive, and full of positive energy. I genuinely look forward to every class, and dancing consistently has also helped me with my fitness and confidence. Uno has been a big inspiration in helping me rediscover my love for dance, and I'm grateful for the friendships and experiences I've gained here. I highly recommend this studio to anyone looking for a fun, encouraging place to dance and grow.

But Uno's killer body workout is so much fun, I hardly even realize I'm doing a workout! Not only do we learn dance moves, but she also trains us in better posture and is an exceptional motivator! I've gained so much confidence in my body since coming here! I also sign up for her kpop adult dance class, where she teaches us the full choreography of a song and lets us dress up as a pop-star group at the end of learning the full choreography! Each year she gives us an opportunity to attend extra rehearsals and perform on stage. These are optional performances, and those of us that request to perform put in extra time and effort to make it special and put a good show! She fosters such a kind and supportive community and everyone in the class has been so friendly and welcoming! I've made so many amazing friends since joining and always look forward to seeing everyone! If you're looking for a fun workout or dance class and great class environment, come to Unos Dance Studio!
