WARNING. LIARS AND SCAMMERS HERE. I tried to aviod writing…read morethis, but I just can't now after a 3rd plumber had to come out after they "fixed" our problem for $8,000 with a guarantee of a year. LIE. 1st off. We are renting a house in Burbank. All 3 of our toilets were overflowing into shower. It was an emergency so we called our landlord. He was calling places in middle of night. Roto rooter was only place up. They were there a little after 7am. Great! 2 guys, and then 3 showed up to diagnose issue. They checked all 3 bathrooms, including the worst situation one which was in the back next to the kitchen. God bless our landlord. He showed up and when the one guys said he would write up an estimate, our landlord waved him off, saying it doesnt matter, just do it. That was out of concern with us, he wasn't going to turn them away. WRONG MOVE. They came back with $8000 to clean the lines, and 20k to replace. Cleaning came with a one year guarantee. Okay, whatever. After that, a new set of guys show up to do thew job. What? Few hours later, done. Seems good. 2 days go by. Kitchen sink and bathroom in back start having same issue. Unusable. (Mind you, one of bathrooms is in a back semi ADU, which requires you to walk outside of the house to use). Anyway, we call them and let them know. Same original 3 guys who up to check problem. It was the FIRST bathroom we brought them too. They claim it's a "DIFFERENT" issue and NOT COVERED by the fIrst guarantee. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It was field supervisor Charles Sullivan" who claimed, plumbing is expensive. Well, that didn't sit well. Regardless, I called landlord. No response. Eventuallly get from his niece who lets us know he was in emergency room after having a major health scare. I wasn't goingt o allow these scammers to price gouge him again. I asked for an estimate. Was told they couldn't give one until they inspect further and "start an official service ticket." I send them away because I'm not going to authorize another blank check for a job that should have been completed the first time. We end up finding a guy on craiglist who did the job for $750. Still not cool, but reasonable and he worked hard and long. Only WISH we had called him for the first issue. HERE'S THE KICKER. 2 weeks go by. The original bathroom that they had patched into the lines with (thru the toilet) started staining badly, urine around the bottom ridge. So we called roto rooter again! Luckily this time, they sent someone and he was able to fix that- saying a step was skipped the first time that should have prevented that. Talked to some more people, including someone who used to work for roto rooter, and found out the initial crew that shows up to fix your probelm are nothing more than salesman. There to assess the problem, AND YOU!! They then sub contract outright jobs and add a hefty commission fee on top. Total scam, taking advantage of people in need. I realize sometimes you need it fixed fast, but seriously, dig a hole and tough it out for a day ifneed be. Lots of honest plumbers on craigslist and elsewhere who are looking fr work and won't rip you off. At least not to the Nth degree like Roto Rooter. ps. Forgot to add- I called the main roto rooter line 3 TIMES and explained the situation. Every time I was promised a call back from management because "they take these matters seriously."
