We came in as a group of 5 before the BTS Baltimore concert! If you are heading to M&T for any event , this restaurant is close enough to walk there. Inside was very clean and cozy. Food we got was pretty good. Grandma Mac and cheese was like home made taste. Really good Salad was fresh and great Sobo burger was pretty delicious with meat cooked just right. Gyro could be more flavorful but not so bad. Service was really great. All the servers were so friendly and very accommodating. They also didn't mind taking pictures for the Army :). Stopped by on a Thursday for a quick cocktail. My friend and I were the only patron so we sat at the bar. I ordered a sidecar. They didn't have VSOP, but the bartender recommended another cognac that was smooth. We also ordered some dumplings for an appetizer. Everything was decent. Unfortunately, a bit underwhelming. We came in during restaurant week and did the price fix menu. Unfortunately, I don't think that this was a great showcase of the restaurants abilities. For food, I had the Caesar salad to start, which I can honestly say was a decent caesar, nothing to write home about, but no complaints either - think your basic Caesar. For my main I had the crabcake entrée and to be honest it was just not good. The crabcake was beyond dry and the coleslaw and fries were fine but that that's not what I came for. I do have to say that dessert was great, the carrot cake was without any complaints. The only other thing that I had was the seasonal martini on the drink menu and it was so bad that I couldn't take more than one sip. Other people did like their food, but we all left saying that it was not a great meal. In discussing service, the service itself was good. Our waitress was attentive, but kept jumping into our conversation and wasn't dressed totally appropriately for wait staff in my opinion, she was very attentive though. Ambience is interesting here - it feels as though it has no ambience almost. It's just like a bunch of tables in an outdated restaurant with minimal decor. I came by to try their chicken entree that I said I would try on my next visit. When I arrived, I learned that their menu had just changed. I was disappointed because I was nervous to try a new dish that they had just added the same week (no time to get feedback and perfect the dish). I ended up with chicken, brussel sprouts, and potatoes from the keto menu to be safe on the flavors. That did not exactly pan out for me, as the chicken was tremendously dry and overcooked. I did not send it back because I was already starving, but I did not enjoy that particular meal. The potatoes and brussels were tasty though With that, our service was efficient and the restaurant is a nice vibe as always. read more

We arrived at 12:30 p.m. and didn't even receive water or drink service until well after 1:00 p.m. Once we were finally able to place our order, the first entrée didn't arrive until around 1:30 p.m., and the other two entrées were delivered to the wrong table. By that point, we had plans to go to the pool, so I had to take my meal to go rather than eat at the restaurant. The two entrées that had to be quickly remade were rushed, sloppy, and simply not good. The staff apologized and offered us complimentary drinks and dessert because the entire team was new. That wasn't really the issue. Everyone has difficult days, and I genuinely felt for the staff, which is why I still left a full 20% tip. It seemed like everyone, the servers to the kitchen, was overwhelmed. What happened next, however, is completely unacceptable and the reason for this review. After my credit card was taken to the back to process the payment, fraudulent charges appeared for stays at the Royal Sonesta Hotel and Homewood Suites. I immediately reported the unauthorized charges to my credit card company and notified local law enforcement. I can't say with certainty who was responsible, but the fraudulent activity occurred immediately after my card left my possession at the restaurant, which is extremely concerning. Between the excessive wait, poor food quality, and the unauthorized charges that followed, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. I cannot recommend this restaurant, and I strongly encourage others to use caution if dining here. read more

My husband and I came to SoBo before going to Illusions to split a few appetizers. It's a small, quiet spot not far from Cross Street Market. The food was quite good and hit the spot! I liked the crab dip (although it was more of a crab, spinach and artichoke dip), but the bread was a better pairing than the chips. The gnocchi was delicious and the Brussels were good too (but way too many, I thought the app would be smaller). It really pains me to even have to write this review but I must be honest...with the hopes that management makes better decisions. My husband and I were attending a concert nearby on Valentines day and thought it would be idea to grab dinner in the city so we wouldn't have to battle traffic. Finding a place that actually had good ratings and making reservations were tough. I usually plan ahead but I only gave myself 4 days to find a place and lock it down....which was my first mistake. I saw that this location had thier outdoor seating available through reservations so I ended up calling and was able to be squeezed in. I was super excited to try this place because of the great reviews. When walking in we were greeted and seated right behind the host table and I asked to move because I didnt want to be accidentally bumped while there was so much activity up front. Luckily there was another seat available. When we sat down we noticed there was a pre fixed valentines day menu and we were not thrilled about anything on it. I went to another restaurant in olney that had their restaurant week and included a steak meal under their $65 dollar charge...so for $68 I would have expected the same...but it was an additional $15. So I ended up starting with the meatballs then for main entree the salmon with rice pilaf and then the chocolate cake for dessert. You can tell the meatballs were not homemade and was prob frozen. The salmon dish lacked any seasoning. I added my own salt and pepper. Oddly the salmon was very hot but the rice came out close to room temperature. The dessert was prob the best and it was just ok. Im not a huge fan of dark chocolate but the description didnt say dark chocolate and thats why I ordered it. My husband was very unhappy with his food. But we chose not to complain to add to these folks plates because literally the 3 tables surrounding us....everyone complained. One couple said they refuse to pay for food they dont like....this was the only menu being offered that night and somehow they were able to order off of the regulat menu and they said that food was better. We were still pleasant but highly disappointed in our Vday dinner. And because of that unfortunately we likely won't be back. read more

One of my favorite dinner spots. It's a cozy space full of local artists' paintings of Baltimore on the inside, and a nice little patio area with string lights on the outside. Sadly, I was disappointed with my dinner experience at SoBo Cafe. The cafe itself feels much more like a bar, which is cool, but the quality of food for the style of dishes in context with the atmosphere felt mismatched. My favorite dishes were the crab soup and the smith island cake. The crab soup was pretty good, with lumps of crab. The smith island cake was moist with good chocolate icing... although as you can see in the photos, the layers of the yellow cake inside weren't even, and the chocolate was clumped in some areas. Nitpicking, yea- but keep in mind this is a $10 piece of cake. The Peruvian roasted chicken was okay- it was cooked well and had decent flavor, although a bit overpowered by the dressing. The sides with it were just okay and nothing great. Cornbread very just okay and dry at parts. I would've ordered this dish for $15, but not $29. Now unfortunately for the worst parts. Being Italian, I am particular when it comes to meatballs- although there have been times Ive enjoyed ordering meatballs in restaurants. This was not one of those times. The meatballs were inedible for me. My friend didn't mind them, but she also likes the meatballs from Subway... and she even acknowledged that they weren't that good, which says a lot. The brussels sprouts were weird. I have never had orange slices and creamy aioli-like dressing with warm brussels sprouts and goat cheese for good reason: it's not very good. This was an extremely odd combination that our waiter did recommend ordering the broccoli instead (probably would've been a good choice), but for some reason I didn't imagine fully what the appetizer would be. I'm not usually big on making a point about price, but the dishes at SoBo were way over priced for their quality. Yes, they are elaborate and technically high end style dishes worthy of higher price points, but the quality and execution of these dishes are so lacking that the price points cannot be justified. At $95 per person, dinner at SoBo Cafe was far from satisfactory. It wasn't the worst meal, but for how everything was priced, I cannot give this restaurant more than three stars. I do not include service in my rating, but our waiter also wasn't the best or most attentive. He had the attitude of a bartender who would rather be doing something else. read more

My friend and I had been wanting to try this place out for a while - and so glad we did!! She got a sandwich with a side of pesto salad, and I got the GF chicken. LOVE that they label on the menu what is GF and vegetarian, etc. They seem to have super cute and fun weekly specials (pasta monday, tapas tuesday, wine wednesday, thursday burger night, rose saturdays), and my friend and I found the drink prices to be pretty reasonable. It doesn't get any better than this for a quiet and quaint café in a somewhat bro-y and boisterous Fed Hill! I don't get up here at all--and much has changed. But SoBo recalls an earlier era, kind of the '90s, when life was slower and places to be by oneself to reflect or with a small group to share like with were typical. I ordered iced tea and a quick side of scotched broccoli to quell my hunger from first strolling the area. But the PEI mussels in curry broth with extra toasted bread to sop was divine and a rare treat for me! Efficient service, as well. Single, group and family friendly. Only two demerits: one, for a dimly lit hallway to the barely legible W and M for the bathrooms. The other demerit is for the Old West bathroom painting with cowboy-hatted John Wayne's face in the sky. I think his kind of macho, like Stallone's, is quite passé, plus Wayne's ignorant comments over the years about certain minorities makes his presence in a very personal space a little depressing. I'd lose the Wayne painting, as not expected in such an otherwise most-welcoming and enjoyable café. read more

I have been here a lot and always enjoy myself. Last night my wife and I tried their tapas menu. We decided that it wouldn't be enough food for our dinner so we split 4 tapas as an appetizer. It ended up being a bit more food than we expected, so I actually think it would work for a main. We tried an order of muscles (good), the meatball (also good), the empanadas (fine but underwhelming), and the Brussels sprout (very good 10/10). Overall very happy with them. I got a burger and my wife got a shrimp pita. Both great. We got a few different drinks, all good but the sangria was a bit sweet for my taste. Will definitely be back. If we do tapas again I don't think we need to order so much food :p that said, the Brussels sprouts were the highlight. Might just order those next time. read more

Finally got to checkout SoBo and the food did not disappoint! To start we had the Meatballs which were so juicy. They came with a generous dollop of ricotta and the most delicious tomato sauce with crispy bread. For drinks I got a dirty grey goose martini which came strong and decently priced. The main courses included the SoBo burger and the chicken pita sandwich. Both were so good and hit the spot. The chicken was so juicy and seasoned to perfection. Our server was great, and shout-out to the bartender for making delish martinis. I just wish the inside was a little nicer and had a more lively vibe to. We came on a Saturday with a reservation which I don't really think we needed. Overall the food is truly delicious and a must try in fed hill. read more

TLDR: Where I had an issue was price transparency. Price of other cocktails were listed on the menu but for the rye/bourbon section it was not. Context: I had inquired regarding how much the bourbon old fashioned was as it wasn't listed. It was part of their daily special which came with the burger. They told me $13 with a $2 discount. My partner also wanted an old fashion and the waiter gave us a recommendation. When we got the bill they charged us $27 for his drink. If we had been told the price of this one old fashion was the same as an entree, we would have not ordered. Food and atmosphere was great. What could be better? In town on a work trip staying downtown and looking for a decent place to eat as a vegetarian. This restaurant exceeded my expectations despite seeing it had a high rating. Everything I had was fantastic. Spicy feta app, mushroom ravioli, flourless chocolate cake. It was all absolutely delicious. I loved how the mussels were in green curry! The crab dip was yummy and actually better with toasted bread than the crackers it came with. I loved my peruvian aji chicken dish! Went here for lunch on a Saturday late afternoon. Half full with plenty of seating at bar. I came for the crab dip that I saw in the reviews but was almost sad that is wasn't there. It was replaced by shrimp and scallop dip AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Also had Dry rubbed steak and he has Brie BLT, I wouldn't order the sandwich again but it wasn't bad. My boyfriend and I are big fans of Baltimore and he told me he wanted me to try this place! Everything about Sobo Cafe was extraordinary. Accommodating staff, delicious food, the cutest outdoor seating area and inside is beautiful too! We had to partake in wine Wednesday ($25 select bottles of wine) - amazing! We got the pot pie and the Peruvian chicken for entrees and the crab dip and flatbread for apps. Everything was phenomenal but the flatbread stole our hearts especially after adding the "really good bacon" and fresh jalapeños! We will definitely be back when we're in the area. Times may have changed since work weeks one to thrice from 1983 to 2015, but it appears to be still in business & at a great corner away from tacky Inner Harbor and almost all DT fast food. Cinnamon Roll - They make their own cinnamon rolls in house from scratch. Flavors were amazing. Bread - They bring like a cinnamon-ey bread of some sort for the table. It may have been like pumpkin bread. DELICIOUS. Easy to make reservations online. Service was great and everyone seemed happy with their food. Parking is a little tough in federal hill but doable if you plan ahead (or you can always uber). Interesting menu with something for everyone. LOVED IT. read more

The food was okay and it was lacking a little bit of fresh salt and pop off flavors. The mussels were 4 stars as well as the spicy feta dip but what gave it 3 stars was the entrees. This place seems like a good spot to get beer and wine ONLY since they don't have a full bar and some happy hour food. My sandwich was good but it was drenched in oil from the pesto pasta salad. My friend's steak potatoes and spinach was good but needed some flavors and salt. And I'm not even crazy about salt. Plus the spinach was just warm which is annoying. The waitress tried to take my friends whole plate away to warm up the spinach but we ended up putting it on a plate and they came back with a new one, thankfully they didn't microwave it. But overall if I lived closer I would go back but with all the competition in the area I would go somewhere else. read more
