Dr. Clay is so thorough, during the consultation she evaluated my skin and gave me her recommendations and then explained the entire process from beginning to end before starting the peel. I just had my second cataract done by Dr Clay and like first one, my vision is 20/20 and even reading is possible without readers. The staff is fantastic and they put you at ease and the surgery itself is very fast and Dr Clay walks you through it and makes sure you are comfortable all the way. I was referred to SoCal Eye by my primary physician to check out an issue with blurry vision in one eye. The soonest appointment was a good 30 days out. The person I spoke to suggested that I may want to get on the cancellation waiting list and i agreed. Within a day I was called with a much earlier appointment less than a week from my initial call. Absolutely take them up on this if you don't want to wait. On the day of the appointment it was clear this center is very busy and I was expecting a long wait to see the doctor and an "assembly line experience". Within 20 mins I was accompanying one of the staff into an exam room where she did some preliminary tests and dilated my eyes prior to the exam with Dr Carl.i was escorted back to the waiting room, which was even more crowded now. Within 10 mins I was back in the exam room and after a very short wait I was introduced to Dr Carl. We discussed my issue and he went to work checking out my eyes with another associate who added this info to my chart. Dr Carl is very through and did a great job of explaining his findings and subsequent recommendations. Of note, this facility and the adjacent cosmetic and LASIK office are very well equipped. Dr. Carl was able to get me over to their OCT machine for the images and right back to the exam room for his evaluation of the OCT images without a second appointment and with a minimal wait. What impressed me most is that Dr. Carl cared about my time...he was in between LASIK surgeries and while it was completely understandable to keep me waiting or have me come back, he made the effort to finalize my exam in one visit and without delay. Clearly his practice does not revolve around my singular visit, but his personal attentiveness and extra effort to get me in and out expeditiously made me think it did. Expectations exceeded! Although I love Dr. Clay and think she's a great eye doctor, I am not exactly impressed by the office staff and the techs that support her. My rating is more from the multiple visits I've had in 2016. I've heard the front desk staff talk about "friends with benefits" directly in front of clients and continue to have conversations that are inappropriate in the work place when you have clients within an ear shot of your conversation. Then you have the techs, most are good, some I don't care for their demeanor. They don't return phone calls when you leave a voicemail. And when I did finally get one on the phone, he was a bit short with me, and his tone had a bit of an attitude in it. Maybe because it was a Friday afternoon. I recognized his voice when I went in today. But I think everyone needs to be talked to. The girl with the olive skin and highlights was very nice to me. I've never had one bad experience with the Drs, like I said Dr Clay is awesome, but the staff that supports her needs some additional professional training. And one woman who worked in optical, who looked of Indian decent would not help me when I asked if I could order sunglasses thru my insurance, as if I was abusing some rule. It's my insurance, your job is to help me, not tell me what you think is right or wrong! Dr clay often is behind schedule. That definitely needs to be improved. read more

This entire office staff is amazing! I was visiting LA on vacation last week for New Years when I noticed a significant problem with my vision in my left eye. I called my personal ophthalmologist in Indiana and he advised me to see a doctor immediately. I searched the Internet for a practice that had a positive review and called this office. I explained my problem and the entire staff offered to keep the office open late on New Year's Eve so I could be seen! How amazing! Everyone was so helpful and supportive and "Dr. Carl" quickly identified the problem as a torn retina and he immediately called a specialist and arrange for me to be seen that afternoon! As a result, I had a successful surgery the next morning to repair my eye and now on the road to recovery. Dr. Hartman did cataract surgery on both eyes, which was a challenge as I had radial keratotomy back in 1986. He did a good job, and was very caring and helpful. I gave him a 5 star both times. Staff was great also, especially at surgery center. I went back in Nov. of 2017 as I was having double vision. He told me it was 6th nerve palsy, and I would have to live with it or get special prism glasses that could make it worse. It has made my life difficult as it is hard to read, drive, and even go for a walk. I really don't feel the it is something I can just live with. I did on line research and learned that this is indeed congenital, but something causes it (head injury, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, etc). Sometimes it goes away and sometimes there are things you can do, including surgery. I wish I had been given this information, and I will be getting a second opinion to see if I can get some help with this and learn the cause of it. read more

surprise medical bills !! Avoid! I went there for a regular eye exam and was told that I was glaucoma suspect and recommended to some test. I did expect this bc years ago I was told the same things from a different doctor but didn't have insurance or extra cash for a regular check-up. anyway, the doctor was ok, patience and answered all my questions. then I went back to the front desk to have them check my medical insurance and clearly asked is the test fully cover or is there any out of pocket I need to know. She told me my insurance fully covers it and I don't have to pay, so I just take this as preventive care services, which most insurance covers all. I went ahead and make the second appointment for the test. it's a simple few minutes visual field test. I took it before. I called a day before my appointment to confirm the time and asked again to make sure that they already check my insurance and everything ready to go, so I don't have to go there and wait, just want to go there, take the test, leave, and wait for my result call. I went there with my coworker, we arrived before the appointment time and still have to wait. when someone comes out to get us and leads us to the next-door office to the testing room. AGAIN, I asked while walking there to make sure this test is fully covered, she said I don't have to worry about it, my insurance covered it. My coworker was there and heard it too. Weeks later, I got a bill for it and it costs more than what I used to pay with cash 2 years ago (without insurance)!! I called them up, the person on the phone was super rude saying that it's my fault that I do not understand my own insurance benefit and they priced differently with insurance than cash, said they can't do anything about it and if I don't pay within 90days they send it to the collection! read more

Run through of my visit with Dr. Hartman. 10:15 am appointment- showed up at 10:00. Filled out the new patient form (only 1 page- how awesome is that) and was quickly taken to an exam room by 10:15. Staff who took me to the room did prep work (eye drop, simple testing, etc) and moved me to a room to allow my eyes to dilate (15 min wait time for the eye drops to kick in). I was quickly taken back to the exam room and doc came in within minutes to start his exam. Entire visit lasted 45 min, no unnecessary wait time- it was awesome! Dr. Hartman- super friendly, knows his stuff. He listens, asks what your issues are and goes over everything. Very nice, well mannered. I would recommend him to other yelp users. Just one week ago, Dr Ted Pasquali removed a cataract that was preventing me from seeing out of my right eye. I could only see shapes, it was terrible. Dr. Clay has been amazing! She did my LASIK three years ago, and I have been so happy ever since with my vision. Since then, I've come back for my eye care and for chemical peels for my skin. There is a bit of a wait - BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT! I developed adult acne, and since my recent peels in the last 3 months, my skin looks so much better.....AMAZING RESULTS! The texture has improved, my skin looks brighter and more even-toned, plus an overall improved self-confidence I wasn't expecting.
