Had an issue pop up that required removal of a small amount of items but large items. Gotten to the point where I could not lift or move them. I gave a call on Tuesday and Michael was wonderful. Had an appointment for Thursday. Crew showered up completely prepared & ready to get the job done. I felt bad that it turned out to be both a hot AND humid day in Southern California. They had everything loaded up in under 30 minutes. Gentlemen were extremely polite and really did make swift work of everything. Price was extremely reasonable for all they had to move. We heard about Socal Home Clear Outs by word of mouth, from others in the estate industry (realtor, estate clearance coordinator). It was the third day that my husband and I had been trying on our own to clear my mom's house after her passing. We had already dragged out close to 10 XL black bags of donations and trash...and we were only done with half the walk-in closet. We had prepared ourselves for months of this, but doing it for real was beyond overwhelming. My mom was a hoarder from the start but added dementia from the last few years made for a house that was packed to the gills with a jumble of everything ranging from straight up trash to fairly valuable collectibles & furniture. It was just too much for us, by sheer volume alone and the fact that my mother's house was literally making me so allergic I had to mask every time I was in there. I knew there had to be people out there who could help, and indeed there were! Socal Home Clear Outs, it turned out, was just what we needed: a combination of junk hauling and estate sale management. Micheal came to do the initial assessment and shortly after, his wife Zarela arrived to take marketing photographs for the estate sale while the hard working team (led by the conscientious and detail oriented Gabriel) began clearing out the items headed to landfill. Once the trash was out of the house, they began packing and transporting items for the offsite estate sale. The estate sale itself was staged and run by Zarela, who prepared online marketing and gave us regular reports of how much was selling on what day. Within a couple weeks flat, the house was cleared and ready to be prepared for sale, and the estate sale covered most, if not all, of the cost of the junk removal and transportation of goods offsite (your mileage will vary depending on the items in the house!). Handling the costs and overhead of auctioning/selling/donating hundreds of items ourselves in addition to an unimaginable number of calls to junk haulers would have added up to FAR greater expenses and headaches. It felt incredibly freeing to see an empty home in a matter of days when we thought it would take up to a year! But beyond all this, it was a dream to work with such kind, honest, dedicated folks as Zarela, Micheal, Gabriel and team - who are so utterly devoted to the mission of helping people move through this very challenging phase following an elder's passing. DO NOT TRUST SOCAL HOME CLEAR OUTS WITH YOURS FAMILY'S ESTATE! I've attended estate sales for decades and have seen many different companies operate, but my recent experience with SoCal Home Clear Outs raised serious red flags. I texted days ahead to request an early appointment for one of their sales. They replied with only one hour's notice--seemingly assuming I wouldn't show. But I did. Once there, it was clear that others had received early appointments days earlier, giving them a distinct advantage. The early shopping window was supposed to be just 10 minutes. I went to look at the jewelry, but was immediately told to move aside for another. I watched that person quickly grab around 30 pieces--many of which clearly contained real gold. She was charged just $5-$6 per item, in line with a posted "costume jewelry" price list. At first, I assumed they didn't recognize the value. But when I brought a few items up--ones I had chosen before being told to move--the staff pulled out a loupe and scale to examine them. I was charged over $100 for one item. Clearly, they knew how to identify and price fine jewelry--and chose not to do so for the earlier buyer. Worse, they could have done this work before the sale began, but intentionally did not. Whether that buyer is just a favorite or possibly acting as a front for someone at SoCal Home Clear Outs, the outcome is the same: the estate owner loses. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you're considering this company for an estate sale. Clients should never have to worry about being taken advantage of during such a difficult time. UPDATE: RESPONSE TO BUSINESS REPLY Thank you for the response. I'd like to clarify a few important points. I was notified of my 7:20 early entry time only on the morning of the sale, while others received their appointment times days in advance. The other buyer was given first access to the jewelry and charged only $5-$6 per piece, based on the posted written price list, without any further inspection. I quietly observed this from a short distance. When I checked out, my items were carefully examined with a loupe and scale and priced significantly higher. The company confirmed this pricing issue--and the facts behind it--in their own response. That is the core issue: inconsistent pricing, unequal treatment, and a lack of transparency--not just for buyers, but for the estate owners who are trusting this company to handle their property fairly. Rather than addressing these concerns directly, the company chose to describe my behavior as "disruptive." I respectfully disagree. I remained calm and quiet, observing the situation from a short distance. If any disruption occurred, it was in response to what I witnessed. Micheal was extremely communicative, helpful, and thorough in the proposal process. Their proposal was not the lowest price of all contractors that bid for the job, however, I was most comfortable with Micheal's approach, communication, and clear outline of how he would remove the hot tub. He was the only contractor who personally came out to make sure his proposal was accurate for the job at hand and the price was reasonable for the scope of work. He was able to add us to their schedule within a week, which was huge for us. The team arrived on time, and were incredibly polite and professional. These guys are really incredible!! We had a huge project for them and they were able to get it in their schedule and get it done in incredible time. We had a small situation where a fancy light fixture was accidentally removed. Micheal went to where the team had accidentally dropped it off, picked it back up, took it to the light store that it originated from, GOT SOME CRYSTALS REPLACED !!!, and then brought it back and hung it up, all on a Sunday evening. THEY GAVE ME MY ROOM BACK. During COVID stay at home order years, I hit rock bottom with my mental health.
