I came across this birth center very unexpectedly, and I truly believe God wanted me to be in the care of Jordan and Stephanie. During my first pregnancy, we took a class at Pure Birth near the end of my pregnancy and loved everything we learned--especially the importance of avoiding an epidural for both the mother and the baby. However, at the time, I didn't feel ready to have an unmedicated birth, so we chose a hospital birth for our first daughter. When I found out I was pregnant with our second, I knew deep down that I wanted the least amount of intervention possible--for both myself and my baby. I called what I thought was Pure Birth, and to my surprise, it was SCV birth center. Trusting that God always knows best, I followed that path, and I can honestly say He did not disappoint like always The center itself is smaller, which immediately made me feel safe, confident, and truly at home. Stephanie and Jordan are incredibly kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable. They take the time to truly listen, to reassure you whenever needed, and to explain everything with such clarity and care. Every appointment felt easy, personal, and completely stress-free. The birth itself was absolutely perfect--I could honestly write an entirely separate review just about that experience alone. I cannot thank these two women enough for everything they did for me and my family. I wholeheartedly recommend SCV birth center to anyone seeking an unmedicated, empowering, and deeply supported birth experience.

If you are looking for the best birthing experience of your life, stop you have found your place…read more My daughter is now 6 months and I credit Renee, Andrea & our bonus midwife... for making my experience seamless and beautiful. I have soooooo much to say! For starters, you have a concierge health experience. Every appointment was met with intention yet an openness to answer any thing your heart desires. When you find women in birth work that are aligned with their life purpose you find an amazing environment. Renee and Andrea take the time to educate you! They allow you to make informed decisions without judgement or coercion. They even helped me find a birthing class and helped us find a fitting pediatrician. I plan on having more kids and I can't imagine giving birth any where else. One of my favorite memories, after delivering my daughter you come back for an appointment close to your 1 week mark. Ours happened to be day 4. They taught me how to sideline breastfeed. What a game changer!!! As a first time mom, I was incredibly grateful for the guidance. They actually took me to one of the delivery rooms and allowed me to nurse and practice in real time so I could ask questions. I know so many women who quit breastfeeding because no one took the time to give them the basics, encourage them or just let them understand that there would be moments it hurts but to hang in there. If you are debating on where to start your prenatal care, you are already in the right place, make the call! Trust me, one of the best decisions of my life! -Latoya Lyn & Baby Violet

Midwife Tiffany educated us on the safety of the birth center, the benefits to mom & baby, the financial aspect, shared success stories, answered all of our questions & concerns, and finished with a complete tour of the birth center. We were both blown away by the education we received & decided we would like to try for a VBAC under their midwifery care. From October, when we took the class, to May, when our baby girl was born, we felt so seen and supported by the entire midwife team. Our girl was brought into the world by a redemptive VBAC experience & it was the best decision of our lives! Thank you to the entire Pure Births team for the constant clear communication. I chose Pure Births Birthing Center because I deeply valued the philosophy of midwife-centered,…read moreholistic, and family-focused care. The environment and overall mission of the center truly resonated with me, and I appreciated the calm, natural approach they strive to provide. One of the most positive aspects of my experience was working with student midwife Alysia. I intentionally chose to have her present during my labor because she made me feel safe, supported, and emotionally grounded. Her presence was comforting, encouraging, and compassionate throughout a very vulnerable time, and I am genuinely grateful for the care she provided. I also loved the courses being offered for birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum. Everyone i've met was so sweet and kindhearted. I labored at home for most of the early process and arrived at the birth center around 4:35 AM at 6 cm dilated, ready to continue laboring. Nurse midwife Angela was the on-call midwife overseeing Alysia. Early on, Angela mentioned that she had attended a birth the night before and was exhausted. While I understand that birth work is demanding, hearing this during my own labor created underlying anxiety and made me feel as though my experience might be influenced by fatigue -- something that, as a laboring mother, felt outside of my control and not something I should have had to carry emotionally in that moment. As labor progressed, I began to feel that my experience was becoming rushed despite there being no emergent medical concerns. This was my first pregnancy, and I was already navigating the physical intensity, emotional vulnerability, and uncertainty that come with first-time labor. Some comments made during labor felt discouraging rather than empowering, and I noticed that as Angela became more involved, my confidence declined and my labor felt less supported and more pressured. There was a particularly difficult moment when Angela attempted to assist with pushing using manual support internally with my consent. During this, I had an involuntary knee-jerk reaction and accidentally kicked. Instead of reassurance or redirection, the response focused heavily on her personal safety, and I was told that if the movement continued, I could be transferred. This occurred while I was actively laboring, in pain, and emotionally vulnerable. I found myself repeatedly apologizing for something that was clearly accidental and reflexive, which left me feeling ashamed, distressed, and unsupported during a moment when compassion was especially needed. Additionally, being asked questions about past sexual assault during active labor felt unexpected and emotionally jarring given the timing and intensity of the situation. As a nurse myself, I tried to remain understanding and rationalize the intent behind the questions and responses, but emotionally it contributed to my discomfort and sense of vulnerability. Another significant source of stress was feeling as though there was a time pressure placed on my labor, including comments suggesting that if birth did not occur by a certain timeframe approaching midnight, transfer would be necessary. This created a sense of failure and defeat, making me feel as though my body was not performing adequately rather than feeling supported through a normal first-time labor process. I truly believe that with more patience, reassurance, and time, my birth experience may have unfolded differently. I want to emphasize that this review is not meant to discredit anyone's clinical skills. I believe Angela is likely very knowledgeable and experienced in her field. However, bedside manner, emotional safety, and communication profoundly shape a birth experience, and in my case, I felt rushed, discouraged, and emotionally unsupported at times. In contrast, Alysia remained incredibly compassionate and reassuring. She comforted me, encouraged me to trust my body, and reminded me that if I felt the urge to push or return, I would not be turned away. Her support helped me feel seen and cared for during a moment when I was questioning myself. It took me over a year to write this review because I struggled with denial, self-blame, and not wanting to place fault on anyone. Birth is deeply personal, and processing a difficult emotional experience takes time. Ultimately, I am sharing this in hopes that future patients feel emotionally safe, unrushed, and fully supported regardless of staffing fatigue or scheduling challenges. A laboring mother should never feel like a burden or that time is working against her during a normal birth process. Pure Births offers a beautiful philosophy and environment, and I still value the concept of midwifery care. My hope is simply that emotional presence, compassionate communication, and patience remain central to every birthing experience.

I remember sharing that with Chavah early in my pregnancy, and from that moment on, she cared for me with a level of compassion and sensitivity that I will never forget. Before I even chose a midwife, I prayed for guidance. Then I opened Yelp, and Chavah was the very first midwife I called. After speaking with her on the phone, I didn't search any further. Looking back now, five months postpartum, I truly know she was an answer to my prayer. Chavah cared for us from the very beginning of my pregnancy--around three months along--through birth and into those precious first weeks postpartum. Throughout every appointment, she was wise, kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. She took the time to educate us, answer our endless first-time-parent questions, and guide us through each stage with confidence and reassurance. One thing that especially touched us was her willingness to go above and beyond when life threw us an unexpected curveball. Midway through my pregnancy, my husband and I had to relocate, moving about 70 miles away. Most people would have understandably referred us elsewhere, but Chavah generously agreed to keep us on as clients. We were so grateful. Those extra miles meant more to us than she probably realizes. Our pregnancy was healthy and uncomplicated. The only bump in the road was that I needed an iron boost, and Chavah quickly connected us with excellent care for a couple of iron transfusions. Her experience and attentiveness gave us complete confidence that we were in good hands every step of the way. When it came time to give birth, Chavah was absolutely amazing. She created an environment where I felt informed, supported, and in control. Well... as much control as a woman can feel while temporarily visiting another dimension during contractions. Thankfully, our son had places to be and arrived after just five hours of active labor, making his debut before lunchtime. Today, we are five months postpartum and have a healthy, thriving baby boy. I've intentionally taken my time writing this review because I wanted to reflect carefully on our experience and express just how grateful we are. Chavah brought wisdom when I needed guidance, encouragement when I felt uncertain, and compassion when I was grieving. She cared for not only my physical health, but my emotional well-being too. I honestly cannot imagine a better midwife experience. If we are blessed with more children in the future, I would choose Chavah again without hesitation. Knowing she would be part of our care would bring immediate peace of mind. Thank you, Chavah, for everything you did for our family--and for so much more than was ever required. We will always be grateful.

It wasn't long until we felt very overwhelmed by all the decisions and challenges that faced us. One of our friends recommended that we hire a doula to help us with the process... and so the search began. We met with a few different doulas, however as soon as we met Cali, we knew she was the perfect fit for our growing family. We felt very comfortable with her, she was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions, and her beliefs aligned with ours about the ideal birth. In addition, she offered us private parenting classes since our schedules were always conflicting with the hospital's classes we were interested in taking. In all of our meetings before the birth, Cali came prepared and ready to work. However, I always felt like I was meeting with a good friend. When my water broke 1 month early, Cali dropped everything to be at my side (even though it was her birthday!!) She even came to our house first to help pack for the hospital, keep me calm until my husband got home from work, and even installed our car seat (since we were so unprepared for such an early arrival!) I was a little unsure that I was going to be able to follow the birth plan we had put together, to keep things all natural, with no medical intervention, but with Cali's help, I was! She was calm and encouraging through my entire labor, and provided support for my husband as he coached me through a successful, all natural birth. We could not be more grateful. After the birth, Cali constantly checked in on us, and offered advice and help when we were having some difficulties with breast-feeding during her postpartum visit. We are so thankful that we can look back on our labor in a positive light, and we have Cali to thank for that. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a Doula.

We were in their care for our first pregnancy and they made us feel so much care and love throughout. I loved having a personal connection with them. We really enjoyed every appointment and I'm really sad we have "graduated" out of care and moving on to our pediatrician/family doctor. A few things that stood out and I particularly appreciated about their practice: 1. Their office is small and cozy and a few minutes from our home. 2. Labs were ran through an in network provider, so I didn't have to pay out of pocket. Even though they are not in-network with anyone. Also results always came back super fast. 3. They have referrals for just about everything related to pregnancy and postpartum and some in-network providers. 4. Most appts are an hour long and they are extremely responsive/communication is always top tear. 5. They are a great balance of holistic/western medicine and have a great relationship with Ventura County Medical if you need to go to the hospital for any reason at any time during your pregnancy, delivery or postpartum. 7. They are super down to earth, funny and relatable! We will def. be reaching out again for future pregnancies! Love them!

We left each prenatal visit excited and without worry. They are both so knowledgeable and have great energy. My birth experience was so special. They came to my house early morning and by early afternoon my son was in my arms. Maggie coached me through contractions on the phone allowing me to relax until they arrived. Once they arrived at my home, they set up quietly and quickly making sure not to disturb me. Throughout my labor, they massaged my back with essential oils and made sure I stayed hydrated and energized with water, juice, and snacks. They encouraged me as I pushed and helped move me into different positions when things got tough for me. When my boy was born, they handed him directly to me for skin-to-skin. Within the first two weeks after the birth of my son, Maggie and Andrea helped educate us on tongue ties(while still recommending we do our additional research). They referred us to a specialist who successfully cut our son's ties(tongue and lip). We saw Andrea and Maggie shortly after and they were able to demonstrate how to properly stretch the wounds. At about 5 weeks postpartum, I went to the emergency room for pain and ended up getting surgery to remove my gallbladder. While I was in the hospital my son ran out of breast milk. My husband reached out to our midwives and they were able to help us get donor milk. Once I was released, I noticed a dip in my milk supply and they saw us for two additional visits to help me increase my supply and then to confirm our baby was transferring enough milk. Andrea and Maggie are wonderful midwives with so much knowledge. They truly care about the families in their care, not just the moms and babies but the dads too. I am so lucky I found them and would never do a birth with anyone else. If you or someone you know needs quality people on their care team, Andrea and Maggie are the best.

I showed up for my app 10-12 min early and after being asked for my driver's license and insurance…read morecard, was presented with about 6 sheets of forms - all standard and expected - except for one: The "Credit Card Authorization" form asked for my credit card info for them to keep on file and charge as they saw fit. I handed the forms back to the lady, was called back, and told the "credit card authorization" form was required to be completed. I explained I was well insured and had completed all of the other forms and those specific to "responsible party" and was uncomfortable writing my credit card number down on a sheet of paper for them to KEEP on file. The lady next to Brittany said that "this was required and their practice's policy." I explained why I was not comfortable with this policy and this was the first time it was brought to my attention, and if this was their practice's policy, they should inform patients and before they are standing at the front desk - waiting to be seen - in a room full of people. Brittany went to go speak w/ the "Billing" person, came back and said "sorry, they will not make an exception." Mind you, there is no issue for me to pay a co-pay in person with cash or a card or debit card, but to hand write my credit card number down on a piece of paper and have it "stored" on file is not normal. I expressed my disbelief that I had waited for this appt and now they would not see me unless I wrote down my credit card info - on a piece of paper - for them. So, I left. I was now, in my car, in the parking lot, and was going to go back inside and insist to speak w/ the "billing" person. Not wanting to make a scene - I was literally in tears at this point - I called and spoke with Brittany. She said the "billing person was Sabrina" (who - of course - is on the phone with an insurance co. her to have Sabrina phone me - because this was a really, really bad experience. First, for most women - a gyno appt is very personal, intimate, and invasive. For many - this type of appt can cause anxiety and distress. As a person with PTSD, I fall into both categories, and had to mentally prep myself for this appt., at this new facility, with people I had never met before and have them look up my privates. Yet, I was prepared, got there early, completed their paperwork, and did everything as asked, except provide personal financial info - my credit card - on a piece of paper. After all - what is the purpose of insurance - in my case - we are blessed to have the best of the best insurance - Motion Picture Anthem Blue Cross - and in addition to standard "person with financial responsibility" forms - in this case, it was me - this office REQUIRES you to give them your credit card and authorize them to charge it at their discretion. That is NOT standard practice. I have seen doctors in and outside the UCLA/Anthem Blue Cross/Motion Picture System, and never once been asked to leave my credit card number on file. And if this is something this practice REQUIRES, in order for a person to be seen, they should advise and disclose this to the person BEFORE they have waited weeks for an appt and are standing at the desk. I began to home when Brittany called back asking if I had left the parking lot yet (I said "yes") then she said she had talked with Sabrina and "she had made an exception for me and would like me to return for my appt and be seen today." Huh? I am truly in shock at this point. Seriously? I told her, "no." I do not feel comfortable nor safe now." She - Brittany - was very nice, but I made it clear that I was not going to return and was going to let my doctor know about this - "requirement" - and how it's sprung on you at the desk and that despite having proof of being well-insured with the best insurance one can have, it came down to give-us-your-credit-card-and auth to charge it at will or-you-wont-be-seen. I got home, decided to call the facility back and went through phone prompts. #4 was for "Billing." It's funny that when pressing #4, the recording said "This extension no longer exists." I am not expecting to receive a call back from Sabrina or Dr. Navi Navizadeh who is supposed to be the practice's owner and doctor. If this practice specializes as a "walk in clinic" and demands payment or access to my personal credit card before being seen - it's not the place for me and most people. Other people, I see, now, have written negative yelp reviewers about improper billing and difficulty with getting issues with the "Billing" person at this place resolved. Giving any doctor or authorization to go ahead and charge - at their whim - your card - for any amount and at any time - is very concerning. Because oftentimes, we see a doctor, get a bill a few weeks later, then a few weeks after that, we get an "EOB" - Explanation of Benefits - which comes straight from our insurance co and often shows a "balance due" of "0" or far less than the bill. That's what we owe. NOT what Dr. Navi bills for

I wanted to feel supported and try for a VBAC for my second birth so I decided to work with Andrey for the birth of our daughter. Everything went good at the beginning, we had our in person interview, shortly after that meeting we decided we would be a fit for each other. After that she came over one more time and afterwards she told me she had a family oversees she was working with and would be available via phone/zoom and if needed to she would introduce me to a back up doula incase she wasn't back in time for my birth. The way she introduced us was thru text (no phone call or even an effort to do a zoom call so me and that back up doula could meet each other) no professionalism. My prenatal care was very limited nothing close to what Andrey promotes. Then I asked for a list of what to bring in my birth bag, she said she would send, I had to ask about 4 times until she sent and the reason I didn't get it was because she had sent it to a 'Victoria' how do you forget your clients name especially when you are a part of one of the most vulnerable times in their life. Fast forward to my birth Andrey ended up not being there. I ended up working with the back up doula & my first time meeting her and talking to her was her walking in my room while I laid in my bed clothe-less in pain as I was going thru my contractions (not the most ideal setting to meet someone for the first time who is going to be a part of a raw and emotional intimate time) a few days later Andrey lets me know shes back in LA and is coming to see me & baby to help with postpartum care. Then texts me cancelling because her car is in the shop (She could've taken an Uber) and cannot make it and she can come another day. She comes over a couple days after that for a few hours and tells me she will be back @10am the next day to help us some more. The next morning @9:35am she txts me she cannot make it and isn't available until the following week. I had cancelled help from my sitter to help with my newborn and toddler and my husband had left to work because we had relied on having help from Andrey that morning. At that point I was feeling extremely upset. The care and support I was expecting which Andrey advocates heavily on was nowhere close to what I was given. What was supposed to be a time in my life where I should've been given unwavering love and support turned into a time of grief and sadness for me. I decided to have a conversation with Andrey and let her know how I was feeling and I no longer felt comfortable working together. She apologized and told me I was a client that 'fell thru the cracks.' Simply she overcommitted and I was put in the back burner or was her last option sadly. She offered to bring some postpartum stuff to help with grief and overall just to help me emotionally and would drop it off in the next couple days, she never did. If you're looking for a midwife for your first homebirth or if you've gone this route before and…read moreneed assistance with your 3rd homebirth (like I did) --- I couldn't recommend Rachel highly enough. As I mentioned, this was my 3rd homebirth-- which means I had 2 other children to think about during this past pregnancy and lugging them around to prenatal appointments was not on my wish list. That was one reason Rachel was our *perfect* midwife. She not only delivered our baby in our home but all of my prenatals and blood work were done in my home too!! It was so incredibly convenient and my husband loved that we could schedule them on the weekend so that he didn't have to miss anything. Now, more about Rachel.... Rachel has such a calm, sweet energy. She is probably one of the most patient and soft spoken people I have ever met! At every appointment I really felt listened to and she took the time to answer all of my questions. When it came time to actually deliver our little girl, Rachel had given us the birth pool a couple weeks prior so, my husband set it up in our bedroom. Rachel and her assistant arrived promptly after an hour or so of texting her about the length and frequency of my contractions. My daughter was born about 45 minutes or so after Rachel arrived. It was such a relaxing (yes relaxing!), laid back, and beautiful experience. There's something about floating in a birthing pool that makes it incredibly less intense. - I felt my water break while I was in the pool (Rachel by my side outside the pool), and then I felt the urge to push and my daughter came right out. Rachel put a towel on her as I pulled her up to my chest. It was so quick and calm. Then we moved to the bed and Rachel and her assistant cleaned up everything and made us as comfortable as could be. After the birth all the postpartum visits were at my house too! Which was amaaazing because who wants to take their newborn out for check ups those first few weeks?! Hands down it was the BEST home birthing experience I've had and we will definitely be hiring her when we're expecting again. ((Just submitted the claim to my insurance and will update about that when we have an answer.))

Before I got pregnant I had been following a lot of birth workers on social media and was…read moreinterested in having a midwife and homebirth whenever I did end up getting pregnant. Fast forward to me getting pregnant and Google-ing "midwives near me" and seeing Simple Midwifery on a Yelp list. I checked out Rachel's website and talked to my husband about meeting with her. We set up an interview/meeting and after meeting with her (our first and only midwife interview) decided on our way home that she was definitely the one we wanted. The midwifery model of care is just so much more preferable to me and it was really awesome to be able to hear my baby's heartbeat for the first time in my own home with my husband. All of our prenatal appointments were at home, and any lab work that she couldn't do herself, I'd go to PAL and get it taken care of. She was so helpful and knowledgeable and anything she didnt know she would research and get back to us at/before our next appointment. I always felt like Rachel genuinely cared about us and our baby and my health. Our birth was everything I wanted as well. She was involved when necessary but hands off and let me do what I needed to do without being overbearing. I ended up having a small issue after the birth and she went with us to the hospital for several hours after she had been up for 2 days with just a little nap in between. She was amazing and we hope she will still be in town when we give our son some siblings!
