I had a great experience with Dr Caplanis - his staff worked with me through my work schedule and even when I got a second opinion elsewhere they were nice to reschedule me multiple times so I can manage appointments with other Drs.. came back to Dr C. despite the cost being a bit higher, i just has a better impression of him and his staff. Did an implant surgery and gum graft at the same time - I was terrified but during the surgery he made me feel calm and talked me the procedure. Went home with almost no pain and minimal swelling and was able to go to work the next day. Two weeks later the assistant Jessica removed my stitches and walked me through the next step.. Dr. Caplanis is everything I could ever want in a doctor and he is what I wish all others would be more like. I was referred to him by my dentist about 15 years ago. From the very beginning he clearly was the most knowledgeable and qualified periodontist I'd ever been to and correctly diagnosed my dental issues. More importantly, he's the kind of doctor that tirelessly keeps up with medical advances and continuously hones his considerable skills. He is honest, compassionate, attentive, intelligent, highly experienced, and kind. I've had a lot of challenges with my teeth over the years. Dr. Caplanis has always been up-front with what was and was not possible. My experience has been that he will do everything within his power to solve the problem and is very clear about what to expect. In my case, he performed a full upper and lower tissue graft (in two sessions) about 15 years ago and said that the pain would be similar to a pizza burn. The graft was very successful and it really did feel like a pizza burn for 3 days. Misaligned teeth and chronic clenching caused my gum recession and ultimately multiple broken teeth. Dr. Caplanis did a brilliant job with a rear molar implant about 7 years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't correct the underlying problem until 2 years ago. Even with all that abuse the original tissue graft was structurally sound. I recently elected to addresses my self-inflicted aesthetic gum recession with another full graft. Although I've since moved to Los Angeles, there was no question about driving 60 miles each way to see Dr. Caplanis despite having access to great periodontists close to home. I couldn't be happier with my decision and Dr. Caplanis's work. I've had great results again and not even a pizza burn this time. Honestly, it didn't even feel like I had surgery. Dr Caplanis is the best! I needed an implant 4 years ago to fill the space for a baby molar that didn't have a permanent tooth, and I didn't feel comfortable with another implant specialist recommended by my dentist. So my husband asked for some recommendations from a friend, and he recommended Dr. Caplanis. I went for a consultation and felt at ease immediately. Dr, Caplanis is one of the best in implant dentistry and from what I understand, highly sought after for his knowledge. The procedure was very quick and better than getting a cavity filled or having a root canal! I was able to work from home again that same day, and my recovery was quick. The office gives you EVERYTHING you need - prescriptions, post op instructions, etc - before your procedure and follows up with you the same day to make sure you're ok. Dr. Caplanis guarantees all his work, as long as you come to all follow up visits before you receive your crown and annually thereafter. This last year, I had another implant placed when another baby molar disintegrated. Seeing Dr. Caplanis again was like seeing an old friend. He remembered me and my family, and my teeth. (I had 4 baby molars with no permanent teeth. Now there are only 2 left). This time he removed the baby tooth and did the implant all at the same time which saved me a lot of procedure time and healing time. He did it all in under an hour. The recovery was a bit longer because he did both procedures at once vs when my dentist pulled my tooth first, I waited 3 months, then I went in to see Dr. Caplanis. But it went really well, and all my follow up visits have been great and very informative (how to clean/floss my teeth, what to look out for if there are any issues, etc). I look forward to my annual visits for both my implants and will go to no one else for my future implants. Another plus is that the staff are so incredibly nice and helpful. I was helping my older neighbor with the most disturbing sequence of events. As he was depressed over multiple tests for bleeding and visits to his HMO doctor. I was driving him to all of these appointments as he was emotionally a wreck and physically a wreck. I had the amazing fortune of meeting Dr. Caplanis thru a referral form my dentist Dr. Salvati in San Clemente who said he was the best and he would not take advantage of my neighbor who is of age. Bob had come to my house with a tea bag in his mouth after having a cleaning from his dentist that caused bleeding and would not stop for hours. On an emergency basis the office agreed to see Bob and stopped the bleeding and after hearing the story of the last 30 days of pin ball doctor and lab visits Dr. Caplanis said you need to see a hematologist. I went for my first visit to South County Periodontics for a consultation to find out if implants for a few teeth were an option for me. Everyone in the office was very friendly and helpful. Eric, a surgical assistant, first took me into a treating room, settled me in and asked me pertinent questions. Then, Dr. Madi, D.M.D., M.S., came in and spent a great deal of time examining my teeth and gums and going over everything. He ordered a bone scan of my mouth -- teeth and jawbone, to determine if it was possible to do implants. After he studied and scans, he came back in and went over them with me, and we discussed the options I had. I was extremely impressed with the entire process -- the thoroughness of the exam, the explanations of findings, discussions of treatment choices (which were totally left up to me), and the pleasant, friendly environment the entire time. If you are looking for a periodontist, if you are having problems with your gums, loose teeth or any other issues, the only place you should go is to South County Periodontics and ask for Dr. Imadi. The staff at this office are amazing, helpful, honest and they truly care about the patients. They make every person feel as if they are their only patient. Last year I had a loose tooth and went to three different professionals and they all told me that they have to pull my tooth out along with the other two teeth supporting the loose tooth. They also told me that I have to have deep cleaning done on both upper and lower teeth which was going to cost me alot of money out of pocket. I was devastated to say the least. Then I found South County Periodontics by searching on google. From the minute I arrived there, the staff was amazing and made me feel so comfortable. Then I was introduced to Dr. Imadi. I was extremely depressed and sad over having to lose a tooth or three! Dr. Imadi began by telling me that he will do everything he can to save the loose tooth. After taking the x-rays, he told me what the plan will be to fix my tooth. He asked about my health and the stress that I was under and explained that all of these were a strong factor in the bone loss that I was experiencing. He was so honest and told me that I only had to have deep cleaning done on the upper teeth and not the bottom teeth as all the other dentists had told me. He said that after the cleaning, he will do a surgery and put a stent (sp?) to keep the three teeth together and to support the middle tooth which was loose. The surgery was successful and I barely had any pain afterwards and did not have to take the pain pills. After the stitches were removed by him (he came in on his day off to accommodate my schedule), he told me what to do to keep my teeth clean. I had a follow up checkup today and he was really impressed with the progress I made with my teeth since the first day that I walked into his office back in September. I had deep pockets back in September and today when he measured the same teeth, the pockets had gone down from +10 to 2!! I am so thankful for Dr. Imadi and for what he has done for me.
