I'm giving a shout out to Glenn at McGee's. Glenn always makes the experience at McGee's so pleasant! As soon as you walk in, he'll greet you with a million dollar smile that warms up the entire office. He is always so friendly, helpful, cheerful, organized and professional. I also called a few times to ask questions and he was so patient and gave me very clear answers. You can tell he really cares about the customers. Last week, I have some movers moving things and they could not open the door from the inside of the storage elevator and got stuck inside. Glenn immediately came to the rescue and gave clear instructions to the movers how to operate the elevator and close the gate properly so they could finally open the door. Glenn treats everyone with respect and care and really makes McGee's a better place than other storage places. My storage room at McGee's is so well lit and clean all the time. Thank you for making renting a storage far less difficult than one could or would even hope for! The staff that runs McGees are a pleasure to deal with and would make this place worthy of 4 stars even if the units were awful - WHICH THEY MOST DEFINITELY ARE NOTTTT! I rented a fairly small unit here to keep 7-10 plastic boxes for 2 months while in between apartments. They had a special that made both months 1/2 price - technically, it was pay one month get 2nd month free - either title and you still get the same outcome: a great deal! I was on the 4th floor which would've been a nightmare at public storage but thanks to their badass freight elevator and super convenient free to use (without leaving your ID as collateral) "furniture dolly" (or as I eloquently called it "that thing on wheels they let us put our boxes on so we didn't have to carry em ourself?") it wasn't even a half-mission to make it up to the unit - and we got it all done in a single trip! Really didn't expect renting a unit and moving a huge van's worth of boxes up all those stories to take less than 20 minutes but this place is killer for lazy people like me. Clean units, helpful friendly staff, and affordable units have made me a very satisfied and impressed customer! I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a short term place to store your furniture/boxes/etc. read more

Earlier this year I moved all of my things into unit 503C, a relatively small but very tall space. It was enough to fit a bedroom set: a full size foam mattress, 6'long wooden desk, two Ikea storage cubbies, two extra large plastic storage bins and an assortment of home depot moving boxes with room to spare. Glen was always a sweetheart whenever I came by, offering water and making sure I had everything I needed. Even when I initially signed up for a unit and realized I had no lock, he gave me a new one free of charge. Interestingly enough, when I moved out this past Saturday, I met a new face - he introduced himself as Ryan Doyle. I was met with the same kindness and hospitality that I was already familiar with here, so even though it was a sad to leave, it was so nice to have a well-wishing send-off. Also, I returned the lock in case someone like me shows up without one again. I will absolutely not forget this place for future use, and will be sure to recommend this location to any friend looking for a reputable place, taking comfort in their customer service and peace of mind that their items will be safe and sound here. Glenn & Kathy were both very helpful. I have a few comments about things I wasn't happy about BUT I'd still recommend this business, hence the 4 stars! They provide free water and sweet treats at reception :o) There were a few things I had an issue with like the elevator not working properly one day when I needed to get some stuff out of my storage unit but Glenn did his best to assist me and he managed to get it working eventually - it's a very old piece of machinery so it's to be expected that it will break down from time to time, though that's small comfort if you have to haul your things up the stairs! My other two gripes about this location: 1) I'm from the UK and storage businesses there always refund customers for when they vacate early, provided you give them notice. So I wasn't very happy to discover that I wouldn't get a refund for the 8 days I had left on my month's rental. That being said, I was given a refund on the van hire because they didn't have a van available for me on the day I moved in. 2) The opening hours were a problem for me. Again, in the UK I had 24 hour access to my storage unit and there were a couple of times I needed to get something out of storage and wasn't able to get there before closing time, or they weren't open early enough on the weekend, and that was frustrating. It would be great if there was a way for them to make the building accessible at all times of the day. A useful point to note, I rented a larger unit because I didn't want to risk my stuff not fitting in and could easily have rented a smaller unit because the ceilings are so high - so as long as you have the ability to reach up, you could actually stack your things upwards without any fear of touching the ceiling! read more

After shopping around on Yelp and then literally calling 14 storage places in the valley and West LA yesterday I choose SoCal Self Storage McGee's and it wasn't close. First of all the manager Glen has a ton of rave reviews on Yelp and I have to say he lives up to his incredible reputation. Glen is a total pro. He's responsive, friendly and offered me a very competitive price. He pays attention to detail and loves his job and his positive attitude makes a difference. Glen actually answers the phone unlike most of these places that take you to a national phone bank with really have little interest. He keeps the place very clean and follow COVID protocols carefully. Unlike most storage places you have to sign in here which makes it much more secure location than others. The only ones as far as I know to have convenient easy access 4x4x4 lockers, facility smells great fitted with automatic refreshers at every corner, they provide a nice private clean restroom. Very friendly service and they accommodate all your needs. I have to send a special thanks to Glenn Bute the manager that is always actively above and beyond marking sure everyone is happy and satisfied with the service they provide and open to any suggestions to make the experience more amazing. Did I mention they have complementary cold bottled water and soda drinks to cool down after you working hard storing your items securely in your unit. I can't think of anything else I would expect from a storage facility that they have already thought of and provide. This is one of the most convenient storage locations in Sherman Oaks. Right off Ventura, not too far from the 101 or the 405. But it's the customer service that stands out above all the rest. The people there are fantastic, always willing to help out the tenants. Glen in particular is always a smiling face, a friendly voice on the phone and the best representation of everything good about McGees Closet. One of the more affordable storage places in the area, they also boast their own truck and a huge industrial elevator - larger than most of the units. You can back the truck right up to it. In fact, my only complaint is the fact that on rare occasions, you have to wait a few minutes for someone else to clear the elevator so you can use it, but that's minor and rare. Plus, there's a Goodwill donation spot right around the corner for convenience when you've got a few extra items you don't want to keep. read more

Lived in an apartment in Sherman Oaks for 7 years and this place was my goto for extra storage down the street. I even upgraded to a larger unit at one point when one opened up about 30 feet from the one I had on the same floor. I eventually didn't need it anymore when we moved into a house in 2016 because it has a garage ... UNTIL suddenly COVID hit, and we realized we needed our garage for work from home space rather than storage. Problem solved and we have a nice office space opened up in garage that was solved by about an hour of offloading stuff to a fresh unit at SoCal Self Storage. Was kind like reuniting with an old friend grabbing a new storage unit there. In fact that's kind of true because the manager Glenn and I remembered each other when I returned. I literally can't say enough nice things about Glenn - him and the staff are so nice and helpful. This place is a best kept secret. Also the building is pretty bad ass. It's quite large with a ton of different sized units. The ceilings are high too, so while you'll be renting for sq footage of floor space, you can build up to fit a lot of items. Also, the freight elevator is enormous with access for outdoor loading and there's plenty of carts - my back is thankful for this place because I can wheel anything big and heavy right from my car, into freight elevator, and right to my unit. No complaints, their protocols for COVID are on point, and this place will always be my goto whenever I need some extra storage space for as long as I live in the San Fernando Valley. read more

Literally the best storage experience. I had to store all my belongings for a month when in between homes. Glen was so pleasant and helpful on the phone. He worked with me based on my needs, and even called me to follow up after a month of storage to make sure I wanted to pay for another month or see if I was planning on moving out soon, before charging my credit card. Have been renting a storage space from SoCal storage for nearly a year now. I was super satisfied with the service -- particularly with Glen! He's such a cool and easy going guy. Super helpful and really looks out for his customers. I rented a small 4x6 space last August. At the time they had a new client discount which seemed reasonable, just over $100/month ... pretty good for storage on Ventura. However, recently I received a letter letting me know that rent would be going up to over $150. That's too much for the space, in my opinion so I've chosen to relocate.
