After a week of moving in, I get a call from someone at Public Storage saying that my unit got broken into. I begged and begged for more info but she would not give me anything over the phone and that I had to show up to the unit asap. I left early from work to get there. When I got there, the whole place was a total mess. The entire 2nd floor of 20-30 units were all broken into. People's belongings were everywhere on the hallways. The police and the district manager were there but could not do anything because apparently there are no cameras and no security system. The only camera they have is on the 1st floor by the elevator but the district manager would not even confirm that the camera was working. People there, including myself, were very angry and upset because of the fact that our things were stolen and the district manager was basically saying there's nothing they can do about it. Apparently, break-ins at this storage is a common occurrence. These thieves would rent a storage to gain access and then commit a massive break-ins. They target this particular location because there is no one who works here and there are no cameras or any security system. Also, locks are way too easy to break into. On my move-out day, I got stuck on the second floor for 30 minutes because the elevator stopped working. There was a person stock inside the elevator too. They have 2 elevators but the one on the right is never in operation so only the left was being used. The emergency call button does NOT work and we tried calling the Public Storage office for help but only went to voicemail and it was only 7pm. I am unsure how to express how grateful I am for the work of Eric! He said he is the property manager on site at this location. My story: I am an assistant. My boss lost his key to his space. He is older and doesn't drive, so I was tasked with going to the space and meeting a locksmith. I was CONFUSED. I feel like a smart and competent person most of the time, but Eric really saved my day. He explained all access points, keypads, etc. He took me directly to the storage space itself when I was lost in the maze. He helped me buy a lock from the kiosk on site. The kiosk was broken so he reset it! He also helped me insert the lock into the space because I struggled. He really "held my hand" on a day I needed it! I cannot believe his helpfulness, professionalism, and kindness! He went above and beyond. And was such a nice, sincere, and authentic person. So hard to find these days. He said he only works on site certain days of the week, but I truly don't know what I would've done without him there! I'd consider having someone on site full time! Eric is a GEM! I've spent some time talking to people about this place. And we all agree that between the constant burglaries, the "dummy" cameras (a.k.a. lack of security), and the fact that the robbed units are rented out to new "customers" for 1/3 the price, we suspect this is an inside job. The break-ins that I'm aware of happened toward the end of the month, but victims weren't notified until the day before rent was due. Also, the broken door locks were not locked back up until the morning the victims were called. All those units were open for three days and nights. It seems to be consistently the second floor that's hit. Furthermore, I was there moving out all day and night. I could the manager talking to victims all day on Friday. I could hear bits and pieces of one conversation. It sounded like he was telling them not to think of it as being robbed. They were fully insured, so all they had to do was contact their insurance and they'd be paid out for whatever was missing. This is probably how they sleep at night. KNOWN FREQUENT BREAK-INs and they do NOTHING to prevent them! Instead, they increase rates and offer nothing to protect the units, or their customers. I was told that my unit was "possibly" broken into and I needed to go check it. This is ridiculous, because once it was open I could see the original locking mechanism on the floor inside the door. They knew for a fact that it was broken into. There was no maybe. It took way too long to get in touch with someone who could actually let me in to check it. There is no one onsite and no office. When I was finally able to be let in, it was completely ransacked. I know for a fact that they stole one thing, because it was new in the box with the packing slip. The rest is difficult to know for sure. Some things were thrown and destroyed. They dumped out bags and boxes of stuff (paperwork everywhere) and random things were thrown all over. I didn't take everything apart and open it, because some things were really heavy and the boxes had been broken, so they wouldn't be easy to move around. I did my best to put everything back together. A lot of my things have been there for years and I don't know exactly what was where, so I have no way to know for now. I spoke to the guy who was on site. He said that the building is not very secure and Public Storage is aware of this. He said that they have had frequent break-ins, especially recently. The company hasn't put in any effort to get better quality security for the doors and he said the building has poor security in general. He said this site in particular has the worst security in place. Apparently, they have used the site as a "test" site to see how it will do as a fully automated site. So, they usually have no one working on site anymore. I didn't realize it until this whole ordeal, but they closed off the office and it is only a small room with a kiosk now. Even though this has resulted in more break-ins, they don't appear to be interested in changing it. I asked a lot of questions about how they were able to access the building and why they haven't figured out who was doing it. He said that people will sometimes rent a small unit, so they can get access codes and then they break in to other units and rob them. They are aware of this and do nothing. They clearly aren't even looking into it. They have cameras (only outside on the ground floor) and a log of access codes that they can go through, but they have no idea who has been frequently robbing units?! That is beyond absurd! He said the company is cheap and just doesn't care. He also said that one of the outdoor units was robbed horribly, which is the only place that they do have cameras, and they still haven't caught them. He told me to contact the company and complain, but they still probably won't do anything. On top of this, they have raised the rates consistently to an absurd amount. How can they not even offer a discount after a break-in?! The way they "fixed" the door is ridiculous (photos)! The new lock isn't even flush against the doorframe. The place that they pried it open is still clearly indented and obvious. I told him I could pry it open in its current state with what was in my purse at the moment. He just shrugged and said, "Yea... Public Storage is a really cheap company." More than half of the units in that hallway alone look just as bad, or worse. It looks like they had a crowbar and pried the locks off. The way that they put it back on, I could pry it off even easier now, rather than harder, which is what it should be. The glass on the doors to the building have also been broken and their "fix" is taping them?! There are easy ways that they can make the units and building more secure, but they do nothing. They can definitely afford it, since they price gouge so much. They could even hire a security guard. As soon as I am able, I am going to move out. I wish I could do it immediately, but unfortunately an injury is preventing me from being able to do it right now and every day that I still have my things there fills me with more and more anxiety and stress. read more

This place is like a Simpsons parody it's so bad. Idiocracy bad. There's nobody on-site. A computer screen to mock you. There's no air conditioning. It is hot and dripping humid in the summer. They literally had box fans going. Until recently there were grooves in the decayed floor from the wheels of the carts. There was a fire on the roof while I've been a customer. There was flooding from the roof when I was a customer. They'll make you move when that happens without an apology or anyone to help for their fail. The last time I was there the elevators were out because the system was out. The systems techs were there trying to figure out who to call since there wasn't a manager on site. I drove around the broken bottles in the driveway to the exit thanking my lucky stars the exit gate system was working. It's a total cluster-f*. I wonder how many robberies since nobody looking after it? I think the management is in the building next door but they must hide under their desks other than signing people up and crunching numbers. Not even worth one star. Our storage unit (and ten or more others) were broken into, with all the doors with their built-in locks destroyed. We could not even secure our unit. It was horribly difficult to reach a live person at Public Storage to help us. In the end, the manager walked right past us without a word, trying to lock up the units that were broken into. Several items were stolen, broken, vandalized, and thrown all over the place. We felt so violated. The irresponsible and uncaring behavior of Public Storage, a company that I pay a premium for the privilege of using their storage services, was unreachable, uncaring, and is unworthy of my business. Please be advised that this Public Storage facility is "Self-Service", meaning there is NO MANAGER ON SITE. This means that if you need any type of assistance whatsoever, you will need to contact the manager of another site. I am having an extremely frustrating experience with this facility and with the company in general. Today is moving day. I rented a truck, and I came to get the contents of my storage unit. But when I arrived, my gate code did not work. I've never had trouble with my code in the past, but today it didn't work. I was eventually able to follow someone else in (which is in violation of the rules, but I was desperate), only to find out that my code doesn't work on the elevators either. I just keep getting the same error message: "code not recognized". I called two of the neighboring Public Storage facilities, which have managers. No one picked up. Both just went to voicemail. So all I could do was to leave messages. I called Public Storage's Customer Service line. They had no sense of urgency, and said there was nothing they could do except send an email to the manager of one of the neighboring properties, and someone would contact me back shortly. It's been 12 HOURS, and I haven't received a single call from anyone. I still need access to the contents of my storage unit. I'm still paying for the rental of a truck that I can't use until I can access my storage. Worst customer service ever. Please don't let this happen to you. read more

EDITED: I'm updating to review with an additional star as the district manager did reach out to me after my initial review (below) and apologized for my experienced and hoped to make it a better experience going forward. I do appreciate the concern and effort to make improvements. My original post is included: "As a business owner, I currently rent two units at this location where we store supplies for our company as well as some personal items. I can't speak for other facilities, but I've had a pretty negative experience with this one. It should be simple, move your stuff in and forget about it until you need something or move out. However, on day one, I arrived to find one unit had a broken lock which forced me to wait a week which was not pro-rated. This should have been inspected before I hauled all my items up two stories and then down again. Literally, 30 days later I was given a $50 rate increase to monthly rent. This is not due to any expiration of a "move-in" sale or promotional. They simple went up as if to say, you can always go through the hassle of moving out again if you don't like it. I was eventually able to persuade them to delay this increase to a more reasonable date. A few months later, the door to my second unit came off the tracks and which made the unit inaccessible until they fixed it nearly 6 weeks later. When they supplied me with a new lock, they provided me with the wrong key. Following this, I got stuck in the elevator for nearly 90 min and had to call the fire department who arrived just as it decided to work again. (while waiting I noticed it had exceeded inspection). Having occupied the space for one year it was time for the 50% increase in rent. I then arrived two months later to drop off some items, this time neither elevator worked and I had to return another day to unload. When I complained to management about this, I was told they would give me a rent reduction. Do you think that happened?...nope. I called, left a message. Never heard back. I would remained a tenant but with the increase and poor management of this facility I've decided to pile at least one of the units into my over filled garage and look for a more accommodating space when I have time to move from the 2nd. One or two incidences I would chalk up to bad luck...but drastic increases in rent with poor overall service and facilities has convinced me otherwise." read more

This company changes prices at will with virtually no notice. Any excuse to add fees, they do automatically. Storage companies seem to be one of the few businesses in California that are not regulated, are not limited in what and how they charge. Public Storage in short - stinks. I would prefer to give 0 stars but it wasn't an option. First they told me on the phone that the first month for a 10' by 10' space would be $1 plus a $30 fee. After that it would increase to $308 a month. I started on the 22nd of May.. A few days after getting my space, I was billed over $400. I called and was told they charge by the month and $108 was for the 22nd to the end of the month then the $308 was for June. I argued with them that I was promise a promotional fee of $1 plus $30. They finally agreed and deleted the charge. No one has ever been available to help me with anything there. I had to wait for several hours when the elevator was broken and I couldn't access my storage and no one came for all that time except the elevator repair person but he couldn't get in without the key the manager had and he wasn't there.I have repeatedly called to the number they say is customer service but it's not. There is no customer service. They sold me a lock for their storage but the lock doesn't fit the storage unit. This is a terrible place and I would recommend trying the facility in Van Nuys instead. Here are a few annoying things about this place: (1) Interior is not nearly as clean as advertised in pictures here (I'm really tired of these storage facilities attempting to get away with this...see my uploaded images and compare). (2) The swinging doors don't stay open and the aluminum roll-up doors are extremely difficult to lock with their slide-in mechanism. (3) No lights in most units. (4) Like most of these facilities, they take their carts in after 5-6pm, making it difficult to move items during non-business hours when customers still have access. This is the worst storage I've ever dealt with. They have no staff on premise so there's no way to get any help. There are two elevators and one doesn't go up unless you call it from another level and only one cart for everyone to share. When I moved in I had to load my things into the elevator room then run to the second floor, call the elevator which would bring up the broken one. I then had to send it down to the first floor and then call for the other elevator and take that down to the first floor. The elevator door won't stay open and will eventually start beeping and shut automatically. When I went to grab some things the next day, I couldn't even get past the gate because the gate won't open with the app nor the gate code. It tells you to call the manager which the button to call doesn't work and there is no manager on site. The website said first month for a dollar which wasn't true because the website was out of date. Make sure to read the small print. In fact do yourself a favor and find any other storage place. I helped so many confused people the first day I moved in because nobody was there to answer any questions. There is no value in this storage as you might not even be able to get to your things or even be able to move in when you need to because nothing works. There were old ladies telling me they had to hop the gate. You will only find yourself frustrated. Please do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. read more

We were customers at this facility for TEN YEARS! They kept raising the rent every month and the location kept getting more run down. Customer service was terrible. When we gave notice to move out, they prorated our monthly bill and charged us for 6 extra days. According to the "California Self Storage facility Act", you are entitled to a 10 day grace period by LAW to vacate without any charges. Apparently PS doesn't like to follow the laws here in California. This is why Public Storage had a class action lawsuit against them last year for this very matter. Be VERY weary becoming customers at any of their properties, please. We found a wonderful, clean, new facility in North Hollywood for over $100 less a month. They were happy to have our business and stated they have been getting a lot of PS customers lately. Go figure. read more

This Public Storage is pretty clean both inside and out. There's this weird yeast like smell coming from "my" unit but it could be stuff that the neighbor stores. The office people are pretty nice. They have lots of moving supplies which are reasonably priced. If their storage units were accessible 24/7 it'd be great but they're not. They can be accessed from 6am-9pm. I had the fortune of finding out what happens if you're there after hours. The elevators won't open to let you up and the gate won't let you take your moving truck out. There really should be a sign warning you of these things. Sure it says please exit by 9 but it doesn't say your vehicle will be trapped and the stuff you were unloading will be left in the hall cuz you can't get back upstairs. That's a little long for a sign but it's better than not being warned. read more

This place is kind of a dump. Has chipped painted wood floors, poor ventilation and is hot and stuffy inside. The numbering of the units is nuts. My unit was in the 200s but was actually on the third floor. There is no manager there so you're kind of on your own. Took me 45 minutes to find my unit. Then, when I moved out, they tried to charge me for an extra month because no one was around to see that I had vacated on the day I told them and that they communicated to me was my move out date. Had to spend another hour checking emails and dates to put in a communication via the website and then listen to some dip shit explain to me what went wrong when all I really wanted was them to tell me they were crediting my account. read more

Not bad for a storage place. It's nice that they're indoor and air conditioned, especially when the summer heat hits. There's not a ton of parking and only one elevator was working while we were there. Luckily, we helped move things on Superbowl Sunday, so it wasn't very busy. There are two flatbed dollies, but they lock them up after office hours, so make sure to keep that in mind. read more

I moved to LA in 2016 and had to rent a storage. The property manager, Mr. Marcos, was very friendly and helpful with the paperwork, the tour of the facility and any questions or concerns I had. The price for my 10x10 space was quite affordable compared to the other places in the vicinity. It did increase each year though, but still affordable. The last increase letter I received was in October. I decided to size down to a 5x8 storage space. Again, Mr. Marcos helped me with paperwork and everything went smoothly. read more
