Tried this place last weekend (twice!) after a fantastic first experience as a gluten-free patron. The spare rib appetizer was an exquisite plate - packed with flavor and perfectly charred. I'd also recommend the chicken wings, which packed a sweet salty combo that was nothing short of addicting. As for entrees - was able to try bites of the chicken curry, crab fried rice, and pho: each was delicious and well balanced. I dined at this Resturant on more than 10 occasions. The service is always a 10. The food is pretty good. I had a terrible experience tonight however. My wife and I ordered two separate "main" courses and had a few drinks prior. My wife's entree came to the table and the server said my entree was "coming". I asked my wife not to wait and she proceeded to eat her entree. My entree came 23mins after my wife's??????????????? I asked the server, and the owner if this was a normal course of business. Sochi is a fine addition to Asian dining with a slant towards Vietnamese cuisine. For a relatively new establishment Sochi is a treat. The decor while minimalist is comfortable and spaced well. The menu provides a wide range of traditional and less traditional preparations, most quite shareable which I'd recommend. The service was friendly and engaged. If A complaint could be made it's that the mix of dishes came to quickly; a slower pace would be preferred. Finally kudos and thanks to management for checking IDs and vax cards. One of the best Asian restaurants that i have been to. Here is a list of must try: Eggplant, Shrimp dish, Ribs, Crab fried rice and the Coconut jelly dessert. I do like the idea of being able to watch them cook your food. It is always packed so do make your reservation before coming in. read more

We tried their eggrolls at a Chicago Magazine event and we've been coming back ever since. Their eggrolls are the best! And we love all of the shrimp and prawn dishes on the menu. The roasted eggplant is my favorite. It's seasoned delicately, which is a nice contrast to the sticky and overbearing preparations of eggplant at most restaurants. read more

This place needs more hype. All the hype. Reasonably priced. Great service. Phenomenal food. Came here from an impromptu lunch on a Saturday. My friend ordered the market salad. I got the crab fried rice, and we split the wings. We left lunch already trying to figure out what we would order next time. The wings were tasty. The crab fried rice was very yummy, and I think the market salad stole the show. Everything was absolutely top notch: - egg rolls were freshly fried and filling was well spiced - spring rolls were honestly the best in my life - bc there was so much effort put into the meat filling here too, and accompanying sauce was so good with the shallots - wings crispy and freshly fried, loved the celery that helped cut thru the richness, also love they gave me a 3/2 flats ratio - pho broth was rich and fatty, beef quality was high, loved the mint addition, they were nice enough to separate my cilantro for my soap-tasting wife - Crab rice looked so goddamn good I had to get that to-go, and later on, I confirmed that it was also delicious. - Wife loved everything too. Food was elevated viet with some unique tastes, yet classic and unpretentious at the same time. - Staff was super friendly. Except literally one thing - the pho noodles themselves. Soggy, overdone, looked dried instead of fresh, had no bite or chewiness whatsoever. They were a sunk cost. It was like the texture of Campbell's chicken noodle soup noodles. To the owner: I beg you, please use the classic fresh rice pho noodles that all the other chi (and other) viet spots use rather than dried. I can find them in any viet supermarket in argyle! As a future loyal customer, I would gladly rather pay like $2 more if it meant the right noodle. Thank you. And yet, here's still how delicious I think this place is. In spite of the noodle, combined with how obese I am AND how much I inherently value noodle quality in pho, I will still loyally continue coming here. Hoping they one day switch. read more

My husband and I walked past this place for about a year but didn't take much notice until friends of ours raved about it. Wow, am I glad we finally tried Sochi! This is Vietnamese food that you want go to back for...again...and again. Everything we've tried tastes so authentic and fresh. We have tried several things on their menu, and all are fantastic, but our obsession is the Market Salad! I realize that a salad sounds boring on the surface, but just trust me and try it; I can't bear to think about ordering anything else now that I've had this! We met the owner and are aware that these are all her family's recipes, and you can tell how much pride and authenticity goes into the food. She recommended the egg rolls (which her mother personally rolls at the restaurant), so I look forward to trying those. Really sweet and little alcohol. The margarita was more like a frothy pineapple juice. The food was fine. continuing our journey of scoping out new neighbourhood spots in Lakeview since we moved in April. this was a cute spot a short walk from the apartment, with very tasty food. the egg rolls were fantastic, and the 'shaking beef' was exceptional. we also tried the crab fried rice which was great. looking forward to returning to explore some other dishes on the menu. unfortunately was not able to try the cassava cake which sounded delicious, so opted for the flan (note: i am very particular about my flans, and it's my favourite dessert) -- this one didn't hot the mark for me, but i'm sure others will like it. aside from that, the service was just a tad slow but nothing wild. overall excited to find this place and will visit again! read more

I live nearby and frequent this restaurant either for dine in or take out fairly often. This week I ate here twice - once with family and once with friends. Both times the service was awful. They don't get the order right (i.e., forget something), they don't check to see how the food is, they forget to give utensils and plates after the food arrives and they forget to refill the water jugs. On our most recent trip, they told us we had to leave within an 1 hr and 30 min because they needed the table for another reservation. They must have reminded us 3 times while we were eating. At the end, the waitress said "you cannot order dessert because I need to close out your check. I need the table." The food is great hence the 3 stars, otherwise I would rate it 1 star. read more

We went to Sochi for the first time this winter, and I cannot believe we hadn't been before! The restaurant is so lovely, and is in a great spot on Belmont and Southport. The brightly lit space and open kitchen make it warm and inviting, with lots to watch while you're waiting. After reading a glowing review of the egg rolls in the Chicago Tribune, we tried them, and they lived up to the praise. As a second appetizer, we shared the crispy eggplant, which was outstanding as well. And the entrees, Slap Yo Mama crab fried rice, the scallops, and the Shaking Beef, were all excellent. Great service it was just the food was underwhelming and was overpriced. This place was opened by a Vietnamese couple but nothing feels authentic about the experience sadly. The curry looked beautiful but to our dismay when we tasted it there was no flavor of curry just coconut milk. Traditionally when this is served the chicken and potatoes is derived with lime and salt. The duck salad had no vinegar or lime taste and needed to have more of a sweet and salty flavor. The best part were spring rolls but we could have easily made ours at home and were overpriced here. The lemongrass pork ribs had good flavor and was charred well but some of the pieces looked pink and undercooked. The chicken wings work great and crispy but since they were frozen wings the bones were broken in line and there was marrow spewing out overshadowing chicken flavor. The pho was too sweet and super fatty broth. The crab fried rice was overshadowed by pepper. Not gonna tell mom mom we went here since it would break her heart. read more

The spring rolls had a unique sauce that I loved, the wings were perfectly crispy, the beef in the pho had the best flavor and the seared duck salad was something totally new and unexpected - but in a good way! We have been coming to Sochi regularly for the last year when we moved to the Southport Corridor. It's our go-to neighborhood option. Nice enough to bring guests or celebrate, but not too expensive for everyday dining. We have tried almost every item on the menu, and it's hard to pick a favorite. Egg rolls, market salad and suns rice are our staples, and we add in the beef, prawns or chicken...often ordering extra so we have leftovers. The owners are wonderful. read more

I called the host team to let them know a friend and I were running a few minutes behind (coming from the burbs and traffic was heavy, and we were told by one of the host Sean/Shawn "would you like to do a take out order? after explaining the distance we were traveling and that we would only be 10 mins late we were floored. No restaurant, no matter how celebrated should be inconsiderate of a guest. We were ONLY going to be 10 mins late, and called 20 mins ahead to let them know. Then Sean/Shawn, told us " We'll we will also be cleaning around you during your meal if that's ok?" There we're reservations available for 3pm and 3:15pm on Open table, why would you tell a guest you plan on giving them an unpleasant experience? We really got concerned about their customer service skills. Sochi isn't concerned with their lunch customers that's apparent, they're more concerned with their dinner guests, so my good friend and I decided to go somewhere else. read more
