It's upscale but not pretentious- perfect for meeting up with friends when you want to feel a little fancy without going through hoops getting ready. The staff was super attentive and kind, checking on us frequently. My friend and I stopped by for happy hour, and this should absolutely make it onto the list of the best in town. They have delicious wine, cocktails, and bites for nearly half of the regular price. I opted for the happy hour prosecco to drink, which was light-bodied and not too sweet. We split the meatballs and dates for bites and both were outstanding. I was super impressed with how tender the meatballs were, and they did not skimp on the flavorful marinara and cheese! The dates, which were topped with a white wine cheese sauce, were mouth-wateringly delicious and a must order. There was also complimentary focaccia with olive oil, which was greatly appreciated. With sea salt on top and a crispy exterior, I could easily have eaten a whole loaf. The only note I have is that the portions are small, so if you don't come during happy hour the prices are a bit steep for what you get. However, the bartender was not very nice, and we saw her stick her hand in someone's glass to get something out before serving it... Figo's is warmly lit, cozy and bustling for a Friday evening. We walked in and had to wait about an hour for seats at the bar. The drinks were standard and the food was nothing remarkable, but I do think you go more for the vibe. Our fries would have been SO good (thick and crispy and piping hot), but they lacked salt and the aioli was like a sad, watered down ranch. The artichoke toast was the same price as the other apps ($16) with a minuscule piece of toast and a barely there artichoke spread. The brussel sprouts were also quite standard - lemon and garlic - but not too acidic which I appreciated. Our service at the bar was also lacking. Yes they were busy but we counted at least five people behind the bar at one time and had not been checked on in over 30 minutes. I really love figo wine bar. I love this area around the Belmont stop but figo stands out as really the only elevated atmosphere on this block. I like that it feels nice and special but also chill and neighborly. I've been once just for wine, and we saw how great the food looked so had to come back a second time to try it! It's a great place to share dishes, and there's a nice variety of tapas options. My friend is gluten free, and they have a dietary menu with their gf selections and were very accommodating. My favorite part was the brussels sprouts! The fries were also really delicious. The dates in a white sauce that I had never seen with dates before, but they were quite good. Figo Wine Bar is an easy walk from City Suites and we had high hopes. We were pretty disappointed. To be sure, it's a very cute space. We were seated quickly and enjoyed the ambience. Our waiter was helpful and we appreciated his service, but more on this in a bit. We started with a focaccia-type bread with olive oil dipping sauce. It is offered as a gratis starter and was tasty. We then started with our tapas. We thought the Bistro Fries with Truffle Aioli, Parmesan and Chives would be a yummy start. They weren't. The fries were thick, which would be okay except they lacked flavor. This is the only offering we did not finish. Next came the Octopus w/ Pipian Sauce, Red Cabbage Escabeche & Crunchy Spiced Chickpeas. I enjoy an octopus dish and this was tasty. We then had Meatballs - Beef Meatballs, Marinara, Parmesan and Shrimp & Clams - Pinot Grigio and Butter Sauce, Urfa Pepper, Basil. There was nothing exceptional about the meatballs. The shrimp and clams were pretty good. The Pork Belly - Leek Cream, Corn Succotash, Veal Demi Glaze was delicious as were the Dates - Stuffed with Gorgonzola, Wrapped in Speck, Gorgonzola Sauce & Chives. While we were there our waiter was being reprimanded by the manger well within earshot. Something about a patron from the day before complaining about who knows what. Bottom line, we should not have been hearing this conversation, but it was occurring right behind our table. We had a Yelp discount that was not reflected on the bill. We mentioned it and our server corrected it immediately. Based on the overheard conversation, I was worried about our server. He did a great job and we tipped him very well. Anyway, the dishes were between delicious and okay, with one being unenjoyable. Discussions about work should be handled away from patrons' ears. We find ourselves in Chicago at City Suites pretty often. We might actually try Figo Wine Bar again, thinking it may have been an off night. If we do, I'll let you know. read more

Went to a show at The Vic last night with a couple of friends and going to Figo was almost a no-brainer. It's less than a block away from the venue, and I've gone past it so many times over the years, I finally had a great excuse to stop in. We were able to walk in and get a spot for three at the bar (there were no reservations at the time we needed, I think other folks had the same idea as I LOL) and while you kind of have to flag the staff to take care of you, once you do they're super attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, particularly as it related to prep time and taking the show's start time under consideration. All three of us ordered a couple rounds of dirty martinis with the blue cheese olives and it was easily one of the best martinis I've had in the city. I wasn't expecting that at all at a wine bar, so that was a pleasant surprise! We also ordered a ton of apps/tapas to share and a couple of pastas. We had planned to order the branzino as well, but were wisely advised against it, just due to how long it would take to come from the kitchen before showtime. So we ordered the bistro fries, octopus, arancini, tagliatelle bolognese, porcini risotto, and we were served bread with olive oil as well. It was all excellent and I can only recommend all of it! Very full-bodied flavors and not too heavy. Inside is SO cute and perfect for a date or intimate gathering with friends. Or of course, before a show at the Vic. We were greeted with friendly smiles as soon as we walked in and were seated within minutes. Originally our reservations was for 5, however, we had 2 additional people and the staff accommodated us without any issues. They even offered the private space, since we were celebrating a bach party, but we opted to stay in the main area. Service throughout was exceptional. They also brought out complimentary champagne and cheesecake to keep the party going. OMG the wine selection and food menu?!?! STOPPPPPPPPPPPP. I went for the Merlot/Cab blend and it was smooth and delicious. Not as bold as I'm used too and I'm OK with that! It was sooooooo good! They also have cocktails, mocktails, spirits and beers. For food we ordered arancini, truffle fries and created our own meat and cheese board. Everything was fresh and divine. 4 apps + the meat and cheese board was the perfect amount for our group of 7. I used to really like this spot, which made my recent visit especially disappointing. The arancini came out lukewarm with film over the sauce, the risotto tasted like a kitchen sink, and the ribeye was really small and thin. None of it felt worth ordering. The ambiance is still cozy and warm, but it was so loud in there. My date and I could barely hear each other across the table and our waiter was also having trouble hearing us. I went there for Restaurant Week and while I am not sure if that is an accurate representation for the restaurant, it didn't really make me want to come back. The food was fine, but the service was severely lacking. We were a bigger group that appears to have been their first customers on a Sunday. We had a reservation so they knew we were coming. We wanted to order bottles of wine, but every single one we requested was out. It got to the point that our leader asked for recommendations. The server was nice enough and offered to bring her a taste. She picked one out and that was fine. My other friend ordered a whisky and they were out of that. What is going on? We didn't order until 40 minutes after we sat down for some reason. Again, we were the ONLY people in the entire restaurant at that point. Their restaurant week menu had 4 courses, but they called an "audible" and allowed a three course for $15 less. Me, wanting the whole experience, just did the 4 course. About half the group did the 3 course which just chopped off the dessert. I will describe the food below, but we all ordered. Halfway through, they announced that they only had two duck dishes left. Again, we are the only group in here meaning that we took one of the entries for the eventing just for our table. There was also lots of confusion on who got what. 1st course: This was grilled veggies, soup, or salad. This came out 20 minutes after we ordered. There was a second table seated by the time our food came out. Actually, not all the food came out as I ended up waiting for my soup a full 10 minutes after everybody else. Again, no other table had food, but they forgot my soup? As for the soup, it was pretty good, but I had to eat it fast to catch up with everybody else. 2nd Course: This was the pasta course. Again, server had no clue who was supposed to get what and I ended up getting every single pasta dish offered to me except for my gnocchi. Ended up getting it quick enough, but myself and my table mates commented how much pesto was on it. Like it was pesto soup with dumplings. The Bolognaise others got looked and smelled excellent. The risotto was pretty lackluster based on what my friend mentioned. 3rd course: Those all came out at weird times including everybody who ordered the scallops first, followed by the duck, followed by my beef. The scallops smelled EXTREMELY fishy and my friends commented how salty the clam chowder was. The duck looked good (for the two people that got it) and my beef was excellent so thats a plus 4th course: This is the dessert that half of us got. Some got the tiramisu which actually looked good. Nice and light. I got the chocolate mousse which was a bit goopy and full of a weird jam. Not worth the extra $15 IMO. We, of course, wanted another bottle of the same wine, but we bought the last one so we had to go through the weird tasting once again. How can you say you are a wine bar and be out of so much alcohol? In all, this meal took 2.5 hours! Thats really long for a four course meal. Restaurant Week is supposed to be a place and time to test out new places across Chicago and while I am glad to try this place, I was unimpressed. Came here on a Tuesday for dinner before a show. The restaurant has a great wine list and ambience. It lacks in keeping up with the AC given the high ceilings, open kitchen, and tall windows. We could see the thermostat and it read 80 so we were sweating. Figo is also severely understaffed. It looked like 1 waiter, 1 bartender, and 1 person bringing out food from the kitchen. We only ordered 4 small plates + 2 oysters and the entire meal took almost 2 hours. Not to mention we waited 30+ minutes between the cold and warm plates. For context, we waited so long the waiter thought we were waiting for our bill, not the rest of our food. We got a couple oysters, bread, the pear salad, meatballs, arincini and prosciutto wrapped dates. Although everything was fine, nothing except the salad was worth $16. The portion sizes for everything were tiny. 3 small meatballs, 4 dates? I'd only recommend this place if you are drinking or going for happy hour. read more

I dined here most recently with friends and we love that the plates are all small so you can try a whole bunch of things and share. Here's a run down of the food: We had the arancini (wasn't my fave, a bit dry), beef carpaccio (so good), dates (100% amazing definitely order these, best thing we ate), Brussels sprouts (so good), fries (not my fave). It's fun to mix it up and try a bunch of different things. In the past I've ordered pastas here and always love those as well. Our service on this particular night was sloooooow which is why I knocked a star off, we had to flag down our waiter whenever we needed anything and it would take a long time to get his attention. Also by the time we left it was pretty packed and so loud it was hard to hear our table's conversation. The place is small and a bit of a puzzle to get around. We made a reservation, but we were sat at the window. We asked for the bar, but they said it was booked. The whole 90 minutes we were there, nobody sat down. The staff was also ride. We did get they're 15 minutes early, but they raid we had a hard 90 minutes from when see sat versus our reservation time. This is a Wednesday and they never had fill occupancy. I understated you have to ensure they don't have you staying over a certain timeframe, but the way they went about saying it was very rude. She did a great job giving us a break down about the wine as well. The Ena Rosso was very easy to drink and on the lighter side. The Valpolicella was a bit closer to what a Cabernet would taste like. The Enna Rosso was our favorite! They both were very different wines for sure. Food: - Arancini: so so yummy! If you love truffle, you have to get this because the sauce for the balls are just so stinking delicious - Meat&Cheese board: normally I go for the meats but the meat just didn't hit right. I don't think it has anything to do with the freshness but maybe the supplier? Idk, something just didn't make me want to keep grabbing for more! Figo Wine Bar has been on my list for a while so I was excited to finally go. It's a really cute restaurant, the ambiance is great. We ordered drinks; the sangria and a margarita to start, then viewed the menu. When you ordered at Figo, you must give your full order instead of ordering as you go, which I had never experienced at a tapas restaurant. I much prefer to order as I go, but it's not a big deal. We ended up ordering the oysters, the meatballs, fries, octopus, pork belly, hangar steak, and the tortellini. Aside from the oysters, the food and drinks are...meh at best. The sangria, margarita, and the glass of Riesling we ordered later weren't great. The sangria was thick, the margarita tasted no better than a ready-to-pour one, and the Riesling tasted a bit like vomit. The food sounds like it'll be good but it ends up being flavorless and unseasoned. The concepts are good but the delivery is just lacking something. The octopus was actually really tasty and well-cooked but whatever sauce and the chickpeas it comes with aren't very tasty. Since you order all at once, it's hard to gauge how much you actually need to order and we ended up taking our entire order of steak and tortellini to go. We just ate them and they were again, just "ok." Fortunately, we were dining with a Lakeview East gift card I had received a while back, so we weren't spending any actual money on the meal. We had a few cocktails and the $35 meat & cheese board along with the meatballs. The drinks and food were delicious! My only complaints are the service and the bill. We wanted to just chill and have casual drinks (it was a Wednesday night) but we felt pressured to order food from our waiter. They kept coming and asking if we were ordering anything else, unfortunately for him, this was just stop 1 of a long night ahead. A pet peeve of mine is when restaurants have those automatic tip calculations on the bill (18%, 20%, 25%) and they charge you ON TOP of the entire bill (subtotal, taxes, other fees). 10 out of 10 Randomly searching a nice place to celebrate my pre birthday with my best friend in Boystown tonight. Luckily, I found this place next to the Belmont CTA Station of red line. Excellent happy hour selections between 5-6 pm. Three top dishes that you MUST TRT, Pork belly, Grilled octopus and meatball. They were incredible amazing every single bites. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday! Not ganna lie, I was horrified at how busy the main dining room was the second I walked in. Mind you, I went on a Saturday evening. This place is tiny and there was barely any room in between the tables. Luckily my group was seated in a private dining room downstairs which was nice and quiet! I highly recommend reservations here. Their menu is pretty straightforward and limited with Italian dishes - tapas style. They have an extensive wine list to choose from. My favorite dishes of the night were the bruschetta, dates, and the porkbelly! The toppings on the bruschetta blended nicely and it was super creamy. The dates were wrapped in prosciutto which were so good! The porkbelly was super tender and it came with corn - who doesn't like corn? The dish that really impressed me was the hanger steak. I'm not a big steak girlie but this steak was done very well - super juicy and flavorful! Our waiter, Kevin, was awesome and made my friend's birthday special. He brought all of us glasses of champagne to toast and non-alcoholic drinks for those who weren't drinking (me) free of charge. It was very thoughtful of him! I really did not like that and debated on rating this 3 stars instead because of how tight it was. The complimentary bread was okay. My friend ordered a wine. We've seen this place near the corner at Belmont and Sheffield for years and have never been before. We are glad we finally tried it. Everything was very, very tasty. The Manhattan was clear and strong with a nice Luxardo cherry. The homemade burrata app with prosciutto and tomatoes could have been a lot better if they had ripe tomatoes - these were too firm and lacked flavor. Better to offer a sub than plate those. The burrata ball was good but not great as we are used to Spacca Napoli's freshly made, warm version that has no rivals. We had the beet salad, grilled octopus and pork belly - all very good but I have no pictures of those as it was getting dark outside! The sprouts were really tasty and savory with a little cream type drizzle over the top. The meatballs were a three with a nice dusting of finely shave parm. Had to leave after sitting at the table with empty plates and empty wine glasses for over 45 minutes. Couldn't even get our check from anyone. The first 3 wines I tried to order they said they don't have. This is after walking to check and coming back and saying no. Eventually I ask if they can please let me know if they have any of the wine selection at all given that we were the first ya to arrive, with a reservation. Wine selection by the glass is pretty bad, especially when the only wines you would have liked are gone. Then they just..never came back. We weren't done ordering food and wanted a second glass of wine, but they just never came back. Restaurant empty with only two tables taken. Just stood around chatting while we sat here with no water no wine no food. We were planning to spend the evening here but opted to walk almost a mile to the next wine bar we could fine because it was so offensively bad here and we felt so unwelcome. I've actually been here before and had a perfectly fine time, so it was super embarrassing to bring out of town company here to receive such horrible treatment. Really, REALLY bad service. I can't remember the last time I had to just abandon a meal in the middle because we couldn't get service ... in an almost entirely empty restaurant. Seriously. Wish them nothing but the best but I will never come back here and feel so embarrassed that I brought company here. Not even close to the best this city has to offer. read more

Great food! Restaurant is small and pretty tight. And VERY loud however the food is outstanding. People were turned away at the door if they didn't have a reservation. We ordered the special (burratta), octopus, pork belly, risotto balls, tortellini, and Brussel sprouts. The tortellini was by far the best! We'd skip the octopus next time (it was a little tough) and the Brussel sprouts. They were good but just like all other places (nothing unique about them). Make sure to make a reservation so you can eat at this wonderful restaurant! read more

Food was good but service was very pushy. They rushed us to quickly order everything at once. Watched the blonde male bartender come out of the bathroom without washing his hands and immediately start touching drinks behind the bar. Ambiance is pretty but not worth getting sick from dirty hands read more

EXCELLENT service, and great food and wine! :) The menu has a lot of options, and our server was exceptional at helping us order wines and an adequate amount of food that the group would enjoy. The menu highlights were the truffle arancini, French fries, and fettuccine, but we enjoyed everything we tried. We also really loved trying an orange wine for the first time! The main con was that they requested our full food order for the evening at once, even on a slow night. This is kind of hard with tapas given we weren't confident in how many plates would he needed. The cocktail we tried also wasn't good - Definitely stick to wine! read more
