The ambiance was really nice--more polished and plush than what I expected from a cantina, but still relaxed and welcoming. The taco menu was creative with plenty of options, and kudos to the chef because everything we tried was flavorful. Service was fast, food came out quickly, and the portions were perfect for a post-conference bite before dinner. Overall, just a great vibe from start to finish. My daughter was craving Mexican so this was the place that was within walking distance. She found something that she liked on the menu. She had the tacos Americano she got two ground beef and one carnitas. They came with pico de gallo, romaine, sour cream, shredded cheese. She enjoyed them. Didn't I get the level of enjoyment for them, she was able to put down one ground beef and one carnita. I ate the last. Not a big soft taco fan, but interior ingredients were flavorful. I was not a fan of the salsas that I tried. They did send over chips, that were in my opinion. They were crispy. Had no flavor of either salt nor lime on them. Definitely needed salsa, but as I mentioned earlier, the salsas were not very good. Good. I had a roasted red salsa, salsa Verde, plus chili de arbol. None of them, had anything going for them. That was positive. It tasted like it was just the ingredients without seasoning. The salsa Verde tasted like just green tomatoes, and the same for the red. The spicy one, tasted like Tomatoes and spicy peppers. The menu appeared to have a nice variety of different items. I would definitely give them a second chance on something else. read more

Food on the other hand was not great- not very flavorful. If you like Mexican or Latin food, I would recommend going elsewhere. I have zero complaints after visiting Social Cantina this past Sunday for Mother's Day. I must admit that it was not my first choice, but it was a solid one. I knew that I liked the food, and I have previously enjoyed the atmosphere at their Carmel location, so I felt that it was a safe choice. We were a group of 5 and requested booth seating, so we were right behind the host stand. I wasn't thrilled about that, at first, but several larger groups were seated in the same area near the entrance. The booth was spacious and comfortable, and the decor is very bright and vibrant. I ordered the Marg of the Month for May, which was the Bee Sting Margarita. It is made with jalapeno honey and lots of slices of fresh jalapeno. Between those aspects and the bite of the tequila...I quickly understood why it was given that name! If you like a spicy marg, I would definitely suggest! I also ordered the Chips & Salsa Flight for the table. I chose the Roasted Red and Chile de Arbol salsas, along with the guac and queso. I loved all of the dips...except the chile de arbol. It was just spicy...and nothing else. No flavor other than hot. LOL For our entrees, I ordered the Steak Fajitas. I probably could've fed the entire family with the portion that I received. It's Tuesday and I'm still working on it! The steak, peppers and onions were flavorful and tender and it came with all of the pertinent toppings (shredded cheese, lettuce, and pico de gallo). I also requested sour cream on the side. It was served with a side of beans and rice as well. My cousin ordered the Chicken Tinga Enchiladas and quipped that she would've liked "more tinga on her chicken". She didn't eat it all or take the leftovers home, so I'm not sure that I'd suggest that dish. One of my daughters ordered the Shrimp & Street Corn tacos without the corn, so they looked a little plain, but she liked them. She wasn't a fan of the $5.50 per taco price tag. My aunt ordered the Matador bowl and our server, Hailey, stated that it was her favorite. I had also been eyeing that on the menu. She enjoyed it and had plenty to take home with her as well. I am not sure what happened to our chips and salsa but it took a while to get and then basically got our food right after getting the chips and salsa. We got the red roasted salsa and it was a good classic salsa. I then got the chicken tinga tacos and carnitas tacos. Both were delicious and pretty big tacos ! I did not prefer one over the other. We have only been here two times but cannot stop talking about it. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, everything is worth mentioning. Before heading to a Fever game we popped in. We were quickly seated. Jacob was our server. He was tentatively, friendly, and had great recommendations. We started with the salsa flight which is HUGE in portion and was almost as big as the table. Next we ordered a couple of drinks. By the time we worked our way through some of the salsa flight we decided to split an entree rather than order two entrees because there was no way we could eat all of the food. We decided on the Korean Fried Chicken bowl which was INCREDIBLE. It was so flavorful and soo good that we talked about going back the next night to order it again. Place looks nice and menu looked tempting so we decided to try it. Big mistake. Place was about a 1/4 full so we thought it wouldnt take very long. We were seated promptly. Ten minutes later we placed our drink order, another 10 minutes past and we asked for at least some water. 25 minutes in and the margaritas showed up and it was the wrong drink. I wasn't entirely sure what to get on the menu, but our waiter was very patient and he offered me a chance to build my own. So allow me to introduce what I like to call " The Aaryana" bowl. Delightful! I went here once a few years ago. I remember it being okay. We went back today for lunch before a play at the IRT. It's a bigger place than it seems from the outside. We were there at 12:15 on a Sunday. It didn't seem terribly busy, so we were able to sit right down. It has a fun and vibrant decor. Our server Zoe was very sweet. 1 person had a steak burrito, another had the steak bowl, and one person had the shrimp bowl. I had the chicken tinga and carne asada tacos on corn tortillas with the side of rice and black beans. Everyone really enjoyed the food. The menu has many different options. We had a nice visit to Social Cantina. Service was quick and accommodating, and the outdoor seating made it perfect for enjoying the great Indianapolis weather. For entrées, we tried the carne asada burrito (packed with flavor) and the chicken tinga enchiladas, which were tasty and well seasoned. Both dishes came with bacon charro beans, cooked beautifully, though we wished the portions were a bit larger. As an appetizer, we went with the mango habanero chips and salsa. The salsa definitely packs some heat and has more of a puréed texture, so next time we'd probably try a different one. read more

I recently visited Social Cantina on a Saturday night. I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't a long wait and our group of 6 was able to be seated right away at 6:30! Our server was great at getting quick refills and was super friendly. The decor is also wonderful. My food was delicious, but it came out a bit cold, which was a bummer. So far on our girls weekend, this has been the favorite by far. All of the drinks were so good. I had the Blackberry Spiced Sangria from the winter menu and it's probably my favorite cocktail I've had anywhere ever. When we went to order a second round, they only had enough left to make one and we were all about to fight for it. I let my friend have it and tried the Rose Sangria, which also pretty good. The food was good too. Of the three tacos I ordered, I liked the barbacoa the best. My review is mixed. I was going to a concert downtown and grabbed a bite to eat before walking over to Gainbridge. I had eaten there before for the same reason. My first visit was pleasant and the food was very good. We ordered a variety of appetizers including salsa, queso and guacamole. I would give it 4 stars for that trip. The second time recently was not quite as impressive. There was an odd smell wafting near our table that reeked of faulty plumbing. We ordered the vegetarian nachos and they were not what I was expecting. It was a massive mountain of chips and the toppings fell short. The picture I am adding doesn't really show how the ratio was very imbalanced. The nachos were basically OK in taste, but there was too much of the chipotle cream sauce, and there was no cheese. It would have been MUCH better with cheese. I might consider trying this restaurant again, but I would definitely order something else on the menu besides an appetizer to get a better feel for what else they offer. read more

Definitely enjoyed the atmosphere and our service was fast! Came in with a group of 3 and were seated fairly fast for being a Friday with no reservation. Joined my sister and her boyfriend who attends IU and they wanted to show me a local taco joint that was trending. We ordered the mango habanero salsa and it sure is a scorcher! I can usually tolerate spice but this was HOT. I ordered a side of cilantro rice and small Queso and they were eh. The rice was my least favorite of what I ordered. I was not impressed. After we got our food it got quite busy and ended up staying 30 extra minutes to wait for the check. I would recommend going before the rush. The tacos on the other hand...I enjoyed to my hearts content! Definitely enjoyed my fish and vegetarian taco (I am not a vegetarian or vegan, just wanted to try something new). This is the third Social Cantina I've visited in Indiana, and it's probably the most visually beautiful one I've seen so far. This downtown location is spacious, and the decor is bright and colorful, with mellow lighting and exposed fixtures. The signs and visual elements are creative yet tasteful -- whoever created them is obviously really good at their job. This Social Cantina is a very cool-looking place. Beyond the visuals: The food is good. My typical order at Social Cantina is the chicken tortilla soup (muy bueno), but this time I ate the pork belly taco and carnitas tacos. You can choose either corn tortillas or flour, and I chose corn. (Each taco comes with two corn tortillas.) The tacos were tasty little bites. They look small, but they pack in a lot of flavor! I liked the carnitas taco better because ... carnitas beat everything, usually. We also got the enchiladas, which is your choice of three enchiladas, and comes with cilantro rice and beans. We chose one of each enchilada (chicken tinga, carnitas and shrimp) and they were all great. One of them even came in a bright red tortilla! That was fun. I didn't know tortillas could come in that color. Basically, this is a fun place to get Mexican-adjacent food, but don't visit with the idea that you'll be eating authentic Mexican food. It is what it is, and what it is is a great place to get a drink and some chips and salsa. Their chips and salsa are great! Actually, everything on the menu that involves their chips is great: nachos, and the chips and salsa flight. Parking can be a challenge depending on when you visit. I visited on a weekday around 11 a.m., so I was able to get street parking. There is a parking garage like 30 steps away, too. read more

I was greeted as soon as I came in, my waitress was very helpful with helping me choose items that were sooo good! I orders the Carne Asada tacos and the Carnitas tacos with the Mango Habanero Salsa and chips. I tried Mom Water for the first time and it was delicious. I made a reservation of 14 people for my sister-in-law's bachelorette party, so I was extremely pleased with the fact that the restaurant was willing to have so many people at one table. We came in after being in the hot sun after drinking so I was a little worried about our experience. However, our server made the experience amazing for us. I believe their name was Shay, but I am not 100% sure since it was about a month ago. Some girls got some fun drinks, but I was getting too sleepy at this point so I had a diet Coke to help wake me up! The menu is a little bit overwhelming with so many different options of tacos and entrees and drinks. Our table ordered a couple of chips and dip that different groups shared. I got to dry the queso, guacamole, and two types of salsas. All of them were delicious. I genuinely think the chips and dip were the best part of the whole meal. For my entree, I had the Despacito cantina bowl. Honestly, this was really disappointing to me. The pico, cabbage, rice, and salsa together were amazing. However, the pork was so salty that I couldn't eat it. I am a lover of salty foods, but this was inedibley salty. If our server hadn't been so amazing with helping out all of us girls and splitting our checks so effortlessly, I think my rating would've been a little lower even. Great vibes from the moment you walk in! My order wasn't quite ready so I did the ol' wander around and look at everybody's plate. (Don't judge) The nachos looked next level! First timer so I ordered what looked good - a grilled brat seasonal taco that was really tasty and a shrimp and street corn taco that was ok but kind of made me wish I'd gotten the fried avocado one instead. I had high hopes for the esquites and chips but someone was a little heavy handed on the mayo or maybe it's made in big batches? It was a soupy, flavorless mess. The bacon charro beans are not to be missed! But the queseo had the least flavor I've ever had in a queso. C'mon guys, give me some seasoning! The tres leches cake for dessert was pretty good. So, overall, I think you'll enjoy the vibes but the food is kind of hit or miss. I think what makes any kind of Mexican or Tex-Mex food memorable is the seasoning and little ting of spice and that just wasn't here. But I also think it would be helpful to go with someone familiar with the menu who can steer you towards the good stuff! read more
