Service, price, and quality of food makes this place a great option for people who want a variety of menu options with unique twists. As a food, I did my research before coming here, scouring Yelp reviews to preselect what to get. This was hard because I wanted to try so many things! We started with their Truffle Fries which came out fast and hot. Not too truffle heavy but the fries were nice and thin. A ton of herbs and parm were a nice touch. NOTE: the table beside us ordered the Chips and French Onion Dip and I would 100% get that! I got the French Onion Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup. The soup is so rich and full of flavour. The grilled cheese is huge with the perfect cheese to onion ration. The caramelized onions are so sweet and rendered perfectly. The Spicy Vodka Rigatoni (with gochujang) was a huge hit. Not spicy at all but so delicate. It coats the pasta perfectly and the flavours work so well. I loved this. If there was bread, we would have swiped the bowl clean. My friend also got the Cold Satay Noodle Bowl and I will 100% get that next time. You can choose your protein, for an uncharge, to complete the meal. The bowl was massive! Came here midweek for a catch-up and the upstairs was full, but the host was super accommodating and got us seated, with the option to move if a table opened up. They've got a fun cocktail list with both originals and Social-specific creations. I tried The Royale, Green Lady and Bramble. All were good, but the standout was the Royale, it was served in a cute pineapple tiki cup and tasted like a cherry pina colada. I was here for it. We shared the truffle fries, which were a solid snack for drinks. They say it's the only rooftop on Commercial, and it's definitely a cute spot. I'd come back for sure! This place has been recommended to me by so many people. If you go to this place I highly recommend asking for a spot on the rooftop. It is absolutely stunning upstairs. If you are from L.A. it gives Abbot Kinney vibes. I ordered the Udon Carbonara and the Prawn fried rice. The Udon Carbonara was amaaaaaazing. The Miso Butter combined with the crispy big chunks of pork was so yummy. The prawn fried rice was okay. I wouldn't order again. The rice was a little dry and the scrambled egg was overcooked. It wasn't the worst but wasn't the best. I also ordered the passionfruit margarita and classic margarita. Both were delicious and had a more than healthy pour of tequila in it. When I come back I'll be ordering the Salted Caramel Espresso Martini just because I saw so many tables had this drink on their table. It must be good if so many people ordered it. The vibe - Gay bar for men. $$+ For being called "social" I have to say there wasn't a lot of actual socializing other than the staff talking to each other. I had a standoffish Irish bartender that I had to wave down like a taxi just to get some service. Eventually I gave up on him, and flagged down another server. Staff was trendy but not very helpful. My cocktail was $13! and it was a literal juice box with a small bottle of booze sticking out the top. It was like an insult to cocktail drinkers. After all I am an adult. Drinking out of an actual juice box at a bar is kind of embarrassing, and the drink got stronger and stronger until it was no good by the end. All cocktails should have been half the price. Social is a lovely place in a very central location. If you're looking for drinks on their upstairs patio in the summer it is definitely the place to be. It is bright, airy and has tons of greenery and great music. However, if you're looking for a meal, this may not be the preferred choice. Although their service was great, the staff all seemed happy and upbeat, some of the food was lacking. Admittedly, the Social Dumplings were delicious, but the Bao Buns were just decent, and the cauliflower bites left much to be desired and were mostly left untouched at our table. What a welcome addition to Commercial Dr., and to Vancouver's nightlife in general! I thought the cocktail menu was really cool (lots of unique options invoking childhood nostalgia). The food was good too, but I wished it was served a little warmer. I split the dumplings, cauliflower bites, and chicken karaage baos with my friend. Both of us agreed the dumplings were the best. Perfect ratio of filling to wrapper, and the creamy sauce served on the side was bomb! I have a low spice tolerance, so I also used that sauce to help counteract the heat from the gochujang on the crispy cauliflower bites, hehe. The baos were okay. To drink, I had the juicebox: a Vitasoy guava juicebox with a mini Smirnoff vodka bottle pierced through the top. Probably one of my new go to summer patios this year. Finally got the chance to try out social YVR and it really didn't disappoint! The vibes and super cute summery patio gave me such happy vibes and it honestly made it have the nostalgia of a never ending summer. They got a new chef in the restaurant which means some new additions to the menu! * Seared Calamari ~ Super yummy, the Korean bbq sauce really elevated the squid, and those red peppers and black sesame really added a pop of flavor! 8/10. * Ceviche ~ The red snapper really was cooked perfectly, and nicely paired with refreshing citrus, red onions, and the corn was so good! The chips were also super crispy and had a nice seasoning on it! 7.5/10 * Tacos~ came with braised beef and Cajun prawns, and the braised beef was juicy and well-seasoned. I really like their Pico de Gallo because it was just the right amount of seasoning. 7/10. * Beet salad ~ One of the best dishes tonight! Super refreshing salad, and the goat cheese paired perfectly with the candied walnuts, and pesto vinaigrette. Came here with the coworkers with the intention of going to somewhere with a hip interior and for drinks. The inside was very trendy, lots of neon signs, patterned wallpaper and plants (aka good for the gram pics!!) This place is great for late night drinks and eats and I assume making a reservation for weekends or even weekday nights are recommended. We got seated upstairs which was also a vibe. Ordered tons of food from the happy hour menu and we loved everything. The truffle and yam fries were definitely too salty but, that didn't stop us from snacking. Checked this place out on a cold Wednesday night and around 9pm this place was packed!! Downstairs seating is much different than upstairs: downstairs was where the bumping loud music was with bar like atmosphere, whereas upstairs felt like a pinterest-ey terrace with a pretty nice view for somewhere on Commercial! The front desk hostess was very stressed as there were no signs to guide guest flow so people were all coming in, slightly confused of where to line up (so signage would be something useful to incorporate, esp with Covid around still) but our server was the bartender upstairs, she's a friend of the manager who was asked to work a shift due to shortage of servers being stuck due to the flooding, so i can't speak on their direct staff but the service received from her was really good (she paid close attention to details and always made herself available). Food was good, some items were much favoured than others. Best thing on the menu were their fries, hands down! Social Dumplings were pretty decent. The bao had very little protein-- if ur into tangy citrus-like sauce this would be for you! I wish the food had been hot when it hit the table, everything was Warm. Social YVR is a fun restaurant with really great vibes, especially when it's warm and the patio is open. The food was pretty good, with my favourites being the butternut squash ravioli + prawn and the beet salad (not pictured). The shrimp on top of the ravioli were huge and the pasta was super tasty. The salad was light and refreshing, which was great to complement some of the other slightly heavier dishes. My party and I also tried their ceviche, seared calamari, tacos, and soba noodles - they were good, but didn't quite stand out like the other items I mentioned. We also got some great drinks and got to share the ice cream sundae as a nice dessert. Service was top notch, and the servers were consistently checking up on us and bringing out food quickly. I've been here many times now, living on the drive I tend to stay local and support local. When I first came for happy hour, we ordered the sliders with jus, the quesadilla, cauliflower bites and truffle fries. We also got multiple super flux mojios, which are amazing! The sliders stole the show. The juicy tender meat was so savoury and delicious but the jus it was paired with made the dish. I knew I had to come back just for this pair. I was literally dipping my finger in the jus after my slider was done, just to get some more of that tasty tasty jus. Well I went back a few weeks ago and the jus was awful. It was colourless, and I mean, when you think of jus, you think of a rich dark brown, juice packed with flavour. What we got was sandy coloured and the taste was like the drippings of chicken bones mixed with water. It was disappointing. I mentioned it to the server. He seemed like it was normal, but also said that others complained and the sous chef didn't know what was wrong with it. Everything else was fine. Drinks were top quality, other food ordered was good, but the sliders are why we came here. We ordered two orders! I thought, maybe this is an off day, I wrote management and told them it was concerning, they replied that it was indeed concerning and that they hope to rectify the situation. I connected to store directly and I didn't leave a review then because I hoped they would get their ducks in a row. So i went back today hoping that they went back to how it used to be, but nope, same gross meat water. When I go somewhere and fall in love with a dish, I go back for that dish, to be exactly how it was when I fell in love with it, and this was my second go. I will include pictures of how it used to be, according to their Instagram and how we got it, two times in a few week span. If they aren't going to serve the same product they did, then they should take that picture off their Instagram. We heard great things about this patio spot. Therefore, me and my fiancé decided to check the place out. As we were seated and we placed our order and waited for an hour for our eggs Benedict to arrive. After an hour of waiting and inquiring about our order status it arrived at our table cold. Now I am usually a patient person. However, an hour for our food to arrive and be cold is completely a disservice. I made reservations with some friends online for the rooftop patio. Upon arrival, we were seated on the main floor. It was not until we asked the hostess that we were informed that upstairs was closed and that they were closing early. It would have been nice to be informed of this change prior to our arrival and without prompting from us. The patio and main floor have very different environments and I would have changed the date if we were told. The drinks were mediocre. Don't come here if you are only looking to drink. The food however was very good. The food and nice decorations are the main reasons for anyone to come. Price-wise it was decent for one round of drinks and some happy hour snacks.
