Have you ever been in a nightclub and wished you could sit down and just have some food? That's what this place is like. It's a low-key, casual, busy and mood lit atmosphere with fair drinks, pub grub and hard working servers. It's got a great view of English Bay if you're sat by the window, and the spherical bar is fun. I think what could've been better was the music. Maybe their DJ was just starting out? He did sound like he was new to mixing music, which was a shame as we were sitting by the DJ booth. If the mixes had been better, we would've stayed longer and most likely ordered another round of drinks. I would consider this place as possibly my second or third stop on a night of bar hoping, but not a place I'd have dinner and my first round of cocktails. Just personal taste.

When I came in, the place was packed! There were only one or two tables left at the time my friends and I came in. And this was when happy hour was ending at 6pm. decor/ambience: First thing I noticed when I came into the pub was the loud retro music from the 60s and 70s. I felt like I was at an old disco club without a dance floor and all they had was a bar. The decor is definitely dated. I felt like I was in the 80s or earlier. The chairs and booths are dark plush leather and the tables are solid wood. There was a big bar in the middle of the dining area where liquor is served with stools all around it. They have large windows surrounding the place and you can clearly see the street overlooking the beach. The decor was retro-ish yet plain. I'm indifferent to retro disco decor stuff because I was born way past that era. The tables are not very clean because the table my friends and I sat at was noticeably sticky. service: The staff was pretty friendly and nice. She answered our questions pretty clearly when we asked about the dishes they served. Our server was like a busy bee being all over the place moving quickly serving table to table. There were just two servers at the time for the packed bar. The wait time for the food was longer than expected. My friends and I must have waited for around 20 minutes or so. I understand the place was packed so they had to make a lot of orders at once but at least the server could have acknowledged that we waited for a relatively long time. I ordered two dishes: the BC wild salmon and the sweet and savoury braised beef. Both were $18. BC wild salmon: The wild salmon came with veggies, lemon herb quinoa, and a bit of citrus salsa. Presentation wise, overall it looks pretty colorful and nice. I'm glad the salmon was de-boned quite well because there weren't any bones in it. I feel like the salmon was simply baked and it lacked seasoning. All I could smell and taste in the dish was the salmon fillet. It was covered in a pinkish radish vegetable. I might be red radish relish. The radish relish didn't really add any flavor, but more for presentation. The fried salted zucchini and the salted cauliflower were salted well. The quinoa was drier than I liked. It was slightly overcooked, lacking moisture. Overall this dish was just OK. I wouldn't order it again. Sweet and Savoury Beef: The braised beef came with gravy, fried salted zucchini, salted cauliflower, and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were soft and well seasoned. It actually wasn't bad at all, flavor wise. The zucchini and cauliflower were cooked well and seasoned well. The beef was soft and tender. There was just a little bit of fat on it. I'm not a big fan of the gravy though. It didn't quite match the flavor of the beef as I had hoped. Maybe I didn't have braised beef in a long time but i didn't like the aftertaste of this dish. Maybe I should have bought a strong beer to mask it! Overall, in my opinion, it's another mediocre dish that I can't recommend ordering again. I can't comment on the liquor as we didn't order any drinks, just water. The water was fine. It was iced and tasted like a cool, clean glass of water. closing thoughts: At the end of the day, If you just come for the food like I did, you will find it very mediocre. The dishes I ordered were cooked well but it lacked the nice flavors I hoped it would have. Everything from the food, to the service, the decor and ambience was just OK. I give it a 2.5 stars out of 5 rounded up to 3 out of 5 because the yelp rating system doesn't let me give half stars.

Solid place for happy hour! I would recommend grabbing a table between 3pm and 6pm (we arrived at 3:30pm and there were plenty of tables available). They have beer and high balls for only $5, some fun cocktails on their happy hour menu (see pic for the Cosmo and refreshing cucumber Collins). Their seasonal cocktails are DELICIOUS! another plus is you have a perfect view of the water without actually having to be on the crowded beach (yes, this is totally my vibe haha). The servers are so nice. My group of friends really enjoyed our experience there. I'll definitely be back!

Living in the neighborhood, the Bayside Lounge is definitely one of my wateringholes. I'm pleased to say that over the last couple years this place has grown on me more and more and has continued to improve. It's often cold out, but it's not freezing in the Bayside Lounge anymore (i have a few chilly memories). The temperature seems much better controlled these days. Dope bartenders keep the booze flowing; Dez, Hugo and Patrick always have my back. The service has been consistent and friendly and I know most of the staff by name now. The staff at Bay work very hard and it is often the bartender also serving tables, so please try to be patient. The cocktails are yummy and creative, I just wish they had the big ice cubes to make Old Fashioned and Sezerac with more classic style. Prices for the cocktails are some of the most reasonable in town. $11 for an Old Fashioned and Burbon Sour, $13 for Sezerac. They also have a crazy yummy selection of Ceasers to choose from!! The current drink special is the Great Gatsby and its flippin' awesome. This is a cocktail made with burbon, spiced rum, cognac marnier, walnut bitters and burnt orange peel and cinnamon. This is a must try if you like your cocktails flavourful and stiff! Bay offers daily drink specials as well so make sure you check out the website. HAPPY hour is daily from 3-6pm. Cheap wine and highball (as low as $4). Unfortunatley, with COVID the menu has changed a lot and is a fair bit smaller and they no longer offer food discounts for HH. With the new menu I have tried the Salmon burger and it's quite tasty. The new mango gouda chicken burger was a winner as well and I was impressed the fried (love fries)!!! MY personal fav is their NACHOS!!!! These are always on point and some of the best in city. A full order of nachos is enough to feed 3 people, especially if you add chicken (very generous portion). They offer 1/2 orders as well, perfect for a twosome to munch if you're not that hungry. I have also tried the Quatro cheese dip, but its kinda boring to be honest. It needs some pizza in there, crab or something. The view from Bayside's lounge has to be one of the best in the city, especially during twilight! Usually bayside is open quite late and is one of the few late night options in the west end, but with COVID-19 all the bars are closing at 1030 now.

    Classic circular bar!
    Maria-Pia D.

I would give 3.5 stars if possible. I have come here off & on over many years. It's hit n miss with the food. But drinks & views are fab, that's what you go here for! They have one of the best happy hours for pricing ($4 wine) for the Davie/Denman corner. With so many options around this area to choose from, I like this one because it's on the second floor, you're on a corner with a nice view of English Bay, and they have a classic circular bar. This West End bar/lounge is not pretentious or hipster or trendy, everyone is welcome. That's what keeps me going back over the years.

We sat indoors with the option to be seated outdoors with heated lamps but we didn't want to smell the smoke from people smoking outside. We ordered the Dark Spell Latte, Albedo Spritz, and Final Word. The Dark Spell Latte is like an espresso martini with chocolate syrup added, which is pretty solid. The Albedo Spritz is a red wine cocktail with hard liquor, and stood out to me as they had 5oz of alcohol so this was fairly strong, but I would imagine most of the ounces came from the wine itself. I liked the gold dusted blackberry. The Final Word is fruity and smoky, which I enjoyed, but not warrant a hefty price tag compared to the other drinks. Service is decent and in line with other restaurant bars. Overall, solid drinks at okay prices that I can see myself recommending this spot. Food was good. We went during happy hour and I got their happy hour burger + fries ($16) and a creme brulee ($6). The burger and fries was solid - nothing super amazing, but got the job done! The creme brulee was really good and came at a great price. I like that they have a lot of specials like pasta nights (wish I would've stopped by on those nights!), wine special days, and pizza special days. Service was fine. A little slow, but it was nearing the end of the evening so I'm sure it's quicker when it's more lively!

My patties were well-done despite me asking for medium - don't even ask if the kitchen can't deliver. Sadly after visiting the rooftop twice for happy hour and once for dinner with an announced significant birthday number shared, and two breakfast's a three is all we can muster. It should be so much more, but the food lets down the entire experience. Our service was good, with delightful people helping our experience. That said service is slow, with details that should be spot on, not even evident. Water glasses left empty forever, promises made, not even brought up again. When the reservation was made a question was asked of an event for the dinner out. A 60th birthday was mentioned, acknowledged, and when sat by our server and nothing further. To be fair K would rather it all go by unannounced, but when it's all over the paperwork a small recognition should be there. The space itself, is not on a rooftop at all, but it's a beautiful high ceilings restaurant that deserves a far better kitchen. Our price fixe menu for two at $155 or so was definitely not worth the price at all. The steak was uniformly medium when med rare was the ask. There was a tiny bit of medium rare at one end, but the vast majority was medium or more. The torch of the butter on the steak, looked good from afar prior to our serving, but right in front of you looks almost comical. Our breakfasts were average at best, again service was ok, but the food was not where it should be, in fact not even close. We'd ponder staying at the hotel again due to location, but we'd not eat here.
