The service is always top notch, and the entire family are some of the best people you'll ever meet. Shonda took care of us and was very nice, helpful, and attentive. Soco's was a dandy local Mexican restaurant located in Fort Mitchell Kentucky. It was a rather small joint but had a rather vast menu of all sorts of Mexican favourites. We started with an appetizer of one of our Mexican staples; that being the Chori-Queso (they named it the "Queso Con Chorizo.") It was a great balance of the cheese and chorizo and made for a dandy dip. For my main course I tried the Chapala Plato which was 2 Chimichitos A Chimichito is a deep fried totortilla filled with choice of protein (I chose chicken), topped with cheddar cheese, and lettuce which I had left off. They were quite tasty as the chicken had tons of great flavour and the cheese was nice as always. The plate also came with refried beans and Mexican rice with the rice being especially delicious. This was a very tasty and also very inexpensive plate of food which is never a bad thing. The service was superb and restaurant was fun, vibrant, and festive. I enjoyed my trip to Montoya's. The service was a bit slow. It took a long time for anyone to take a drink order and to get our entrees, but the server was very friendly and took time explaining a few things on the menu. Our party of 3 ordered a few different things. I loved the Pirata Plato, which is a mixture of meat (I got chicken), peppers, grilled onions and cheese served with flour tortillas. It was delicious and the only thing that we tried that had any spiciness to it. Others in my party ordered cheese enchilladas (really the same no matter where you get them), shredded beef burrito (good), chicken tortilla soup (very good) and a chicken soft taco (bland). The worst thing was the taco - the chicken had absolutely no seasoning. The salsas were also pretty bland - the mild salsa tasted like canned tomatoes, the "hot" salsa tasted like mild jarred salsa. Rice and refried beans were fine. Overall it was a very average experience, but the delicious Pirata Plato bumped this up for me. I will be back. read more

The crowd was a definite indicator that this is a local favorite. For more me, it was a pretty neutral experience. Nothing was standout good or bad. There was a packed house in a Tuesday night! Our server was fairly quick with getting drinks and chips to the table and taking our order. But the food to the table time was really long. I love this place. Except today. There was no soap in the restroom when I arrived. I let the hostess know, yet when I left 1.5 hours later there was still no soap. She said she forgot, but on a Saturday night, this should be checked on, yet alone not forgotten considering I saw staff use the restroom while I was eating. Absolutely disgusting. We waited 20 minutes to order, so skipped the appetizer we planned on ordering as well as bar drinks. Our salsa was empty while we ordered, but she didn't offer more. We didn't see her til she dropped off our food 20 minutes later, again no offer of salsa. She didn't come back til we were done with empty plates, and dropped the check off with no attempt at real service. Our food was average but bland. She didn't bring the side of chicken we ordered, and having never stopped back, we never received. Flavor on food was not nearly as good as normal- rice and beans were just edible, not desirable. I let the hostess know how disappointed I was with our experience, and not only did she not get anyone/ management to address my concerns, she didn't even apologize or make any attempt to make the situation right. I come to Montoyas for one reason and one reason only: the chori pollo! If you ask the family who works here, several will say that this is their favorite dish on the menu. That's how I originally discovered the dish, and now it is the only thing that I'll order. It's marinated chicken that is grilled with peppers and onions, topped with chorizo and queso! It comes with tortillas, but I usually eat it sans tortillas. It's so good! I've tried a few other things at Montoyas (tacos, enchiladas, etc.) but nothing really stands out. In my opinion, the rest of the menu is just okay. I usually order their queso dip, and I enjoy it. However, it's not my favorite queso in Cincinnati. To be honest, I don't think I would come here if I couldn't order the chori pollo. The other menu items simply don't do it for me. You can't go wrong with Montoyas! First, let me say that I have had nothing but good experiences with this restaurant. But to be clear, this is an American-Mexican restaurant. The kind of place the majority of Americans think of when they think Mexican. There are other restaurants in this area that are much more authentic. Just wanted to state that, but it is certainly no dig at Montoyas. That being said, this is at or near the top of "Mexican" restaurants. And there are a lot of Mexican restaurants around. I've always found the food to be what I would expect to come out of my grandma's kitchen if we lived in the American southwest. And if you have an empty stomach and an almost empty wallet, this is the place for you as well. Large portions at very reasonable prices. I can't think of a single menu item I have not thoroughly enjoyed. The renovation they've done recently is very nice as well. And the staff could not be more friendly and helpful. As I've mentioned in other reviews, I'm married to a Texan. And having visited the Houston and San Antonio areas many times with him, I have a much deeper appreciation of Mexican/Tex-Mex food now. For years, we frequently went to Jalapenos in Florence. When they closed, we were left without a favorite Mexican restaurant near us. Over the years, we've tried just about every one in northern Kentucky and some across the river too. While it won't replace Jalapenos in our heart, Montoyas has become our go-to Mexican restaurant. The menu is varied and authentic. They have a very nice mole sauce which is important to me. Very tasty margaritas too. My husband likes the chicken pirata and I tend to get something different every time. Had the carne asada tacos more recently and they are the closest to the ones I had in Houston I've found outside of Texas. The only downside is that while they serve some Mexican egg dishes, they're not open during breakfast hours. If they opened for breakfast and added breakfast tacos, I'd give them six stars! read more

Been coming to this local favorite for years and am never disappointed. They have an excellent molé sauce which I get on enchiladas every time I visit, which is at least a few times a month. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming and are a huge reason for its local reputation. I also recommend their guacamole, queso and the burritos. The mild "salsa" they brought to the table was the consistency of tomato juice. We ordered our food and wondered why it was taking so long.
