I used to love the pieces I got from Soft Surroundings. I didn't realize that they had gone so very far downhill until I ordered from them last August. One of the things I ordered still hasn't come and it's February. There was zero transparency in their website about shipping time, and it's frankly absurd that we're more than five months from my order date and that item still hasn't come. It was a summer coat and it's winter now so honestly, what's the point. Periodically I get a notice that the amount of that piece has been charged to my credit card, as though they're about to ship it. But the item never arrives and the charge seems to fade away too. Honestly, they should've just closed up shop because this is worse than not being able to buy from them. read more

I just paid for expedited 3 day shipping, which took 7 days to arrive. I could not find anywhere on their website that said, if you choose three day shipping , it is only delivery on business days. Even factoring in Thanksgiving and the weekend it was still late. I returned all items only to find out that they to not refund sales taxes and they charge a $9.95 service fee for returns and you have to pay to ship it back. On an order over $500 I lost $89 in taxes and service fees, just to have to return everything. I accept the service charge, and am currently working with sift surroundings regarding a refund for shipping, but their customer service has been less than helpful. So far they offered a $5 refund and told me to be patient. Buyer beware this is not an honest company and I will be pursuing the illegal practice of keeping sales taxes for items returned. read more

I used to love this store. Most of my wardrobe came from here. Then they closed all their stores. My favorites were beginning to wear out when I was told they still had online presence. While wearing my favorite jeans with many worn patches, I searched for them and found the closest to the style I loved and was wearing. I ordered 3 pair in different shades of denim. The first pair, white, came within a few days - no explanation as to why the others weren't in the shipment. I tried them on. They were from the same company, and the same size as the ones I was wearing, but I couldn't get them past my knees! I immediately called to tell them I was returning them and not to send the other 2 pair I had ordered. I was told it was too late - that they'd already been "picked" so they couldn't cancel. I was livid, especially because they had kept almost $11 when I returned the first pair. I eventually forgot about it. Suddenly, 5 or 6 weeks later, the pair they told me had been picked, showed up! NEVER AGAIN! I think that they have found a way to make money without actually ever "selling" anything. The quality has also gone downhill. I put my hand in the white jean's leg and could see it. I want to move in. I could sleep here under a pile of soft deliciousness, curl up on the TV and snuggle with a luxurious lap blanket, read a book with a dreamy shawl....you get the idea. Everything Feels. So. Good! Plenty of things that you could say you need (like a robe, or a sweater) yet getting one here would be the super-treat you'd rather be gifted. The clothing isn't exactly my style but for scarves and other accessories (gloves!) and wraps, it's totally up my alley. Some seasonal sparkly stuff that definitely speaks to party attire for those in the 50s-whats-appropriate range. Even a treat just browsing the palette of soothing and sweet colors. When I misread the email that my gift for my Babe was in (turns out it had just Been shipped) she showed me what I had ordered and other options and possibilities. When it finally did come in she brought out the curb-side delivery so I wouldn't have to park. I'm a fan of their catalogs, but I highly recommend this store for your Lady's gift occasions. Singular focus with a sprinkle of nonchalance describes my customer service experience. Not an aggressive salesman in sight. However, I do not fit the demographic for this brand which is an upper middle class, mature woman, and the frequent leisure enthusiast. My youthful appearance could very well be the reason I was not asked to assist during my nearly 20-minute visit. I adore this store. I usually shop online​ but seeing everything in person is very helpful. The quality here is sometimes low-quality with high-cost. I feel the cosmetics are just about fair priced but the clothing and accessories value are usually far from the price point it's​ cataloged. If you're in need of some age defense, mineral makeup, or just adding to your kit/regimen, you'll find some fantastic goods. Trinkets and i.c.e. tools are stocked in-store for gifting and travelers. You might not receive the best service at this particular location, but you're bound to find a lovely jewel in this treasure chest. read more

You'll eventually lose money with these folks. It's a dirty little secret. In the end, they got around $63 from me for a top that sold for $34.99. Never again! They charge sales tax on their shipping. And a lot of their merchandise is, shall we say, sub par. Shipping isn't a mere $9.95 as their web site says. It's $9.95 PLUS TAX = $10.67. Ka-ching. (It's a corporate choice to charge not only shipping but also to tax shipping. Ask LL Bean, Lands End and the many companies with comparable or better prices and quality that don't charge shipping.) And while SS may refund the price of an item plus the item's sales tax, they won't refund the tax on the shipping. Ka ching Ka ching. It's all so-called "legit." That's their choice. I just don't like being nickel and dimed that way. read more

APPROPRIATELY NAMED This store is perfectly named because the clothing they carry is very easy and light. This is the perfect store for women approx. 30 and up. I especially like it for mature women who want to look nice and age appropriate. You can be a grandma without looking like a grandma. If you are a woman of a certain age with a little swag and personality, this is the store for you. I love that they had cute basic tops in really pretty spring colors so if you found something that you really like, you can purchase it in different colors. Why not? Start building those spring/summer basics now. This is the perfect clothing to take on vacation because the fabrics will travel for well. Very nice clothing-true to brand, the merchandise is very soft. Unfortunately, the staff there is atrocious!!! I just spend a decent amount on 2 items. While on line, they were handing out $20 off coupons like Oprah gives away cars. When I got up to the register, I got 100 nonsense reasons why I don't get one. Not sure if it's because I was younger than the senior citizens before me or if my clerk was just obnoxious. Either way, their arbitrary practices don't lend well to my return as a customer. read more

An amazing display of customer service! Susan A assisted me with a return. I needed a different size from what I had ordered online. The store did not have the color I wanted but she suggested I try on the style in a different color to make sure it fit. It did. So she began the process to order for me. This week there is free shipping! However, my size was back ordered until January . That did not stop her. She found one in Mass. store - called but it was sold. She then found one in a Seattle store. Due to time difference, that store was not open. However, the associate from Seattle saw that a call had come in and called her back. They had the top and it is on its way to my house! In addition, the store has an additional opportunity for a discount - draw from a bag. So I get my top on sale! Susan is amazing. If you don't know Soft Surroundings, the name can be confusing - this is a women's clothing/accessories/cosmetics and home fashion retailer. This particular location is in the new Avalon development in Alpharetta. Rating this store has been difficult for me - there's a lot to like, but there are also some drawbacks...so here's my frank assessment: What I really like - the clothing. It's soft, comfortable, well made and different - you won't find the same things at every mall chain store. What I'm not so fond of - 1) the prices - the normal retail price of their clothing is steep. Really steep. $69 for a pair of shorts steep. I always head for the back corner of the store where they have the sale items (tip: they have a big selection of sale items on their website). 2) location/parking - parking at Avalon is quickly becoming an Olympic sport. Only the fastest can find parking anywhere near the boulevard...everyone else circles the perimeter for a spot on the edges. 3) the aggressively helpful staff - a pleasant greeting and an offer of assistance is welcome, but they go beyond that. Pick up an item and three will descend on you exclaiming "Can I put that in a fitting room for you?" Spend a few minutes browsing tops and an associate will bound up to you exclaiming how wonderful that item is, that she has it in 1,947 different colors and wears it with everything. Again, I appreciate offers of assistance but based on the associates' interactions with me during each visit, I can only assume that they're compensated on a commission basis. Maybe I'm different from others, but when I shop I really just want to browse in peace - if I need assistance, I have no problem finding someone. I really do recommend Soft Surroundings based on the quality of their clothing, and I know that not everyone feels the way I do about extroverted helpful staff, but a three star is as high as I can go based on my experiences. read more

This company has the worst business model of any retail change I've ever seen. They sent my mother a catalog in Nov. and she asked that I order her something for Christmas. First I went to the store just down the street from her and they didn't have it at all. So I ordered it and was told it would arrive no later than second week of Dec. A week out they said it was delayed but still would be there before Christmas. A week from Christmas they said they would have that item in stock until April. I canceled the order and had to find something else to give her for Christmas. Now a month out from her birthday she found something else from their catalogue. I didn't bother going to the store and just ordered it online. They told me it would arrive in 5-7 days. The next week they said it would be delayed until 8/31. They agreed to express ship it and it arrived at the Fedex distribution center on 8/31 however from that point they lost it and its the day before her birthday and I've now got to find something else to get her. I will never again attempt to buy something from this company. The company's reply is that they print their catalogs months in advance so have no idea what is or isn't in stock when they are mailed out. I don't expect them to be in business very long. read more

Awful!!! I purchased a blouse from them...it cost $101.90 with shipping. It was too large, and I could tell by the fit that a size smaller would not work either, so returned the item. My refund was only $83. I've never dealt with any vendor who charges almost $20 for returning an item. read more

Terrible store, cheap quality clothing, a very hard time getting refunds, and, they like to charge more than the advertised price. Due to poor employee training, they took multiple credit card authorizations for a single purchase and tied my money up for too long. read more
