    Hunan Sauce Lunch Combo

In this economic climate, I found this restaurant that is incredibly affordable. The portions are so good value for money. I paid only $11 for soup and rice. I highly recommend you to go and try it.

This is our default spot in Hamden! Jasa is so consistent and delicious! We love the array of dumplings. The dishes are always fresh! They also make a great egg roll. The space is clean and quiet and the service is always great! We will continue to return!

Growing up in an Asian American community in LA and having traveled to China I have been exposed to a myriad of Chinese cuisine. Thus I am a bit more critical of my critics towards Chinese food. I got take out for the first time from JaSa and ordered the following. I am very pleased that they offer a decent variety of good that are typical of traditional Chinese restaurant. They have a mix of Cantonese, northern Chinese, and Szechuan dishes. 1) Sliced Beef and ox tongue in chili sauce (2/5) I was very excited to see this item on the menu but was extremely disappointed in the flavor. The serving size and beef and ox tongue were of decent quality. However the sauce was extremely lacking. They advertise it as Fu Qi FeiPian, but it does not have the signature chili sauce mixed with peppercorn flavor. 2)"Lion head" in brown sauce (3/5) This is a traditional Cantonese dish that I loved growing up. I was happy with the flavor and texture of the lion head meatball for the most part, however due to the way they cooked it they created a spot of hardened meat that was not as appetizing when you reach the end. They most likely steamed it after pan frying it too long on the pan/wok. The meatball also did not hold out very well the next day. 3)Singapore chow mei fun (2.5/5) This is also another traditional Cantonese dish that I loved growing it. It is traditionally made with rice noodle, but rice noodle gets mushy and does not hold well the next day. This dish made with this noodle is best eaten the same day. This dish did not have enough salt or curry powder to fully bring out the flavor. If they switched rice noodles to mung bean noodle it would give the noodles a dryer texture and also be great for eating the next day. 4)Fish fillet in Szechuan hot chili sauce (2/5) This dish is a very signature Szechuan dish that is suppose to be a little salty, spicy, tongue numbing, and make you down several bowls of rice. I was disappointed in the sauce which makes the whole dish. The fish filet had a nice texture but the chili sauce was extremely watery and not spicy at all. There was no hint of the peppercorn(which gives the numbing sensation) or chili. This dish is traditionally filled with 1/3-1/2 of chili peppers. However, due to the demographic I would understand reducing the amount of spice, but it was sad to not have any of the flavor in this dish. 5) Chicken wing (3/5) It was very typical chicken wing that you can get at Chinese restaurants in CT. They chicken had a nice crunch and was not dry on the inside. Since I am very sensitive towards standard msg I was dying of thirst afterward eating this dish. So far I am not a huge fan of this place, but I may try some other dishes since a lot of their menu resembles Cantonese style cuisine. There may be certain dishes done better than others. I also really liked the ease of their online menu ordering system. The design is simple and easy to navigate.

We love Jasa! Very diverse Asian cuisine menu. Options for the kids with picky pallets include pot stickers and chicken lo mein. I really like the Cumin lamb (spicy) and the Mongolian beef. I also really like their hot and sour soup. Service is sometimes slow taking the order but food comes out quick once ordered!

Lady Heart roll - in hearts!

I don't always find it reassuring when a restaurant has two (or more) distinct cuisines as part of their offering, but overall JaSa offered a solid Japanese meal. The lady heart sushi was creative, and the sweet potato roll had a nice fried crunch. I thought the pot stickers, from the Chinese menu, a bit too cold, which was a bit of a bummer. No music playing, which I always find a little eerie. Nonetheless, this is a nice spot for all types of diners. Family friendly.

    Beautiful sushi presentation!

I saw them putting the new sign up a few weeks ago and realized a new place had taken over Szechuan Delight. After reading a few reviews on here, we decided to check it out on Friday. We ordered a few hand rolls to share - prices are INCREDIBLY fair! Most typical rolls are $4.50-$5.50 and special rolls ranged from $8-14 or so. When the sushi came out I was taken aback by how beautiful the presentation was. They brought all the rolls out together with cute decorations such as "trees" in beds of wasabi, towers of sushi, etc. (A friend of mine went yesterday and sent a picture where he got a cucumber deer!) Overall the flavors were also very good. I forget any special names, but we ordered a spicy tuna roll, spicy scallop roll, spicy salmon roll, and one wrapped in calamari rings. They were all tasty, fresh, no hint of fishiness in any of them. The calamari was tender and not chewy, the sauces/garnish were good, too. Service was prompt. Would say the lighting is a bit unfriendly. Each table has a pendant type light which sadly looks like a bug zapper (and to add insult to injury, each one has a fake butterfly attached). Other than that, they did a nice job renovating the restaurant from the former place.

As a Hamden local, I am always searching for new places to eat... Not many new places open up often. When Jasa opened, I knew I had to go there! I finally made it there yesterday, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the ambience (especially given the exterior surroundings). We went on a Wednesday afternoon... We were the only ones in the whole joint. We made it there just in time for the lunch special (closes at 3 PM). My fiancé ordered twice-cooked pork and I ordered the mixed vegetable lunch combo. The lunch combo comes with your choice of entrée, white rice, and eggroll or soup. All of this for just $7. A great deal, in my opinion. My fiancé was very pleased with the flavoring and portion size of the twice - cooked pork. I, on the other hand, was underwhelmed by the mixed vegetables. I think it lacked flavor despite having a brown sauce. The hot and sour soup was just hot. I requested vinegar to add the "sour". Our waitress had a poor grasp of the English language, so it was very difficult for her to answer our questions about the menu items. She went and got somebody from the back who spoke English better and he was able to answer our questions. Overall, if you are craving Asian food in the Hamden area, this is not a bad place to go. However, if you have a little bit more time on your hand, make the trek down to Hartford or New Haven for better options.

AMBIANCE - on the nicer side with the booths being U Shaped and comfortable seating for sure. The color scheme was on the red side. Hence the name I guess LOL. There were quite a few tables with a sushi bar work station straight to the back I also noticed a full bar to the right of where you walk in. Not a plethora of seating but when crowded you could eat at the bar I suspect MENU - definitely fusion with a bit more Japanese options than Chinese. They offer various appetizers and for sushi a lot of individual selections from a full dinner or pick your own pieces or rolls. For lunch they have a nice 3 rolls of your choice for $16 which is a good deal. FOOD - I tried a tuna dumpling that I have to say was unique and excellent. The sushi rolls were not the greatest, I've had better but not awful. They could give you more wasabi and ginger was my only pet peeve The salad came with the lunch special and it was very good and fresh. BTW you have a choice between soup or salad LIBATIONS - they had a nice selection of beer. Any mixed drinks plus saki. We ordered the kirin beer which came as a tap beer rather than a bottle RESTROOMS - they have one for men and one for women but they consider them unisex so you can use either The bathroom was not small and was clean. SERVICE - the waiter we had was very nice and attentive PRICE - for two people with 2 beers, two entrees, and 1 appetizer, the bill with tax was $77 so $$$ is about right

Totally worth it and a really great way to spend a Thursday evening. Service is always kind, I tend to go in a small group with the intention of chatting, hanging out, and eating a few bites while we wait for trivia to start. We get in well before trivia so we never have issues with seating, but it starts to fill up as 7 rolls around! The chive bites are a showstopper--my friends and I almost always do 2 orders or more, and we love the sauce and dip everything else in it as well. The boneless wings are delicious and not a bar's typical "chicken nugget"-esque wing, but rather a really great fried bite. Their lemon drop is $6 during happy hour, so how could I not pick that as my drink of choice? And their spicy basil udon with chicken or tofu is delicious every time. Last night when I was there, the owner, Michael, gave us our shots for coming 3rd place in trivia and he was super pleasant! The whole place seems to have tons of events (like a Survivor watchparty night I'd love to catch!!) and just the best vibe ever. Pride flags are abound and it's a really great spot. Food: Then I tried the rolls and pretty sure I know why. All the rolls are covered in SO much sauce that it's impossible to actually taste the fish. Tuna or Salmon, who knows? The rainbow roll, which I have never had any sauce on in 30+ years of ordering, was covered here. The sad truth is that is typically an indication of using low quality or not so fresh fish. The fish should be able to stand on its own! The yakitori? The beef was not chewable, the pork belly was decent and the scallops were good. Outside of the beef, this may be the only decent edible option. Service: One server, even though it's a small place, it's not enough. Also factor in that he seemed to be somewhat clueless of how the process works. We almost left, as it was 5 minutes before we could get his attention to take our order. The rest of the meal time was not much better. Overall: Seems this place has been open long enough to fix these issues. I guess the owners do not care enough to do so.

The menu is small, but has a variety from entrees, sushi, noodles, and shareable appetizers. There were specials as well that we took advantage of and ended up with a lot of food. My husband and I shared the Yukitori Platter, something that I haven't seen before on a menu. It's a Japanese street food that has skewered meat. Our platter had chicken, shrimp, beef, pork, and zucchini and each were very good. My husband got the Gyu Don (which is a beef bowl) and for $5 more, he got the set that included three side dishes and a miso soup. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Udon and made it a Combo for $5 more which included a classic Brown Sugar Bubble Tea and a Pork Bun. I loved my Udon, was flavorful and not too salty. The bubble tea was perfect, even the tapioca pearls weren't too hard or gummy. The service was good, but it was a slow start since there was only one staff member hosting and serving the dining room. It was a little busy with a couple of other tables. The staff were very kind and respectful. The food came out fast after we ordered. Akatsuki is really a hidden gem and it's a must try. My husband and I look forward to returning soon.
