Fairly chill bar with fairly reasonable drinks. It's a good 2nd stop if you've just come from sushi next door and want to have a few cocktails and wind down. There's a small outside seating bit in front if you want to enjoy the summer heat and people watch. Soho is my go-to Ferndale bar. It's a great place to relax with old friends or meet some new ones. The unpretentious atmosphere is refreshing compared to other nearby gay bars. And while it's a "gay bar," everyone is welcome, and the crowd is fairly mixed. Soho is especially delightful in the summer, when they have both front and back patios open. Why not a perfect 5 stars? The drinks might be slightly overpriced, but not by much. I'm sure I'll keep coming back to Soho for some time to come! read more

I've been here quite a lot and its a great little bar. It's not very big which is fine with me but looking for seats at a table/bar if you want to sit can be challenging sometimes. Its a great mix of men and woman here - they have a back patio seating and I think in the summer they have front outside seating as well. They have a glass garage door thats usually open in the summer as well which is a nice feature. They also have a pool table which personally is annoying when people are trying to play pool in this crazy crowded bar and they get an attitude when you don't want to be watching out for their pool sticks every other minute. I've been told drinks are cheap here compared to other places but every time I order a drink its on par with any other royal oak/ferndale bar. Bartenders are great, always helpful and nice. Clientele is usually very nice as well, I've met a lot of great friends at this place. I would recommend anybody to check it out, even if you're not LGBTQ, its a great place. I will also note they don't ever have food, so if you're hungry you're going to have to go somewhere else. I think they might sell small bags of chips but thats it. The bathrooms are also VERY clean which is a major selling point for me in restaurants/bars. read more

SoHo is one of my favorite bars in Ferndale. In the summer, you can sit on the patio on 9 mile, which is really nice. But in the winter, you can stay inside and enjoy some of the best, and raunchiest Karaoke around and $4 Long Islands on Sunday (which helps a lot with the karaoke). The bartenders have all been very pleasant and fun. I hadn't been here in over a year, but after visiting last night, I will probably have to work SoHo into the rotation. read more

Although i love this place and visit multiple times a week, one of the bartenders is very rude. She has no communication with you and never says thank you. For an LGBTQ+ bar and establishment, you'd think you would get treated with respect and friendship but this girl has none of that. SoHo has been making a lot of changes. The decor has been updated (to a degree) and the "smell" someone else made mention of is gone. They have different specials every night of the week. The newest of which I have really enjoyed. Each Tuesday night at 8PM there is a wine tasting with at least four different wine selections. It's $8 for the tasting (cheese and crackers incl) and then the featured selections are just $3.50 a glass. They aren't tasting first growths or anything like that but it is a nice way to learn and expose yourself to more varietals. read more

If you sit at the bar it's a great experience! Sitting at the tables or booth not a good idea. The bartenders are awesome(well some are and some I just avoid) but kind of forget to check on tables. Also I opened a tab and once we leaving I went to close it and the bartender never asked if I wanted to pay with that card or cash! Although full of people, the crowd did not seem to be very friendly. Everyone was paired off and there was no real "group atmosphere" going on like any other place I have been to. There was great music playing and there was a dancefloor, but no one was dancing. Kind of awkward. We had a drink and left, but the service was good and the drink was delicious so I'd give it a mediocre recocomendation, and at the same time wouldn't really tell my friends to drop in there. read more

Yes, I know this is a gay bar and I am straight, but I still love coming here after work. In the summer, the front is all open and the sun and breeze pour in. The space is cool.....they play fun music and have a good juke too. Toli, the bartender, is the best. Remembers my drink every time no matter how long it's been. I usually leave before the night gets hopping, but plan to stay sometime and have more fun!! read more

I admit Soho is a great place to go. You seem to get a different type of people who go here regularly. The atmosphere is less slutty then at Backstreet or other really slutty clubs. Went in there last night. Meh. It went from no one being in there (except an aging lesbian couple) to a bunch of heterosexuals (this is a gay bar, right?) stampeding in. The bartender who is also supposedly the manager & heterosexual (again....this is a gay bar, right?) is a prick. Instead of tending to his bar he seemed more interested in playing on dj'ing websites on his laptop or leaving the place entirely to go out and smoke. Professional. When said females came in (and some sort of friend/associate of his) he was all over them yet paying no mind to that actual gay customers there. I was astounded to find out that my Sapphire & tonic was only $5.50. Well it may have came out of a Sapphire bottle, it was not indeed said gin. We stayed for one drink and then I had to get out of there. It's sad that this is "fabulously fashionable Ferndale's" one & only gay libation establishment. Word of advice, dude....the bartenders next door at The Oakland have engaging courteous bartending skills down. Learn from them. read more

I've never understood Soho. It just doesn't attract the crowds. And you'd think it would, considering where it's located. I mean, most of the gay bars in this city are in the worst areas imaginable, where I don't feel safe even walking to my car. Like other reviewers mentioned, the layout is rather user-unfriendly, and doesn't promote socializing. Most of the times I've gone in, I've only spent about five minutes before becoming bored and moving on. People are not outgoing and friendly; same with the bartenders. Such great potential being sadly under-utilated. I'm really kind of surprised it continues to stay open. read more

Hi all! So I'm going to be very honest about my experience at SoHo. I was there celebrating my best friends bachelorette party on Saturday night. Everything was going really well until this guy decides to make a racist comment to me (I'm black and he was white). I was immediately aggravated and reported this to the bartenders (They don't have security). I told them I was really disrespected and that really need to put him out. The bartenders were rude to me and did not take what i said seriously. They pretty much minimized my feelings about being a black person!! To be perfectly honest, I will not be going to this place ever again due to how this situation was handled. The sad part about it is....I really enjoyed this place before this all happened. My husband and I almost always end up at Soho's some time during our nights. Not because it's the best bar in town, but because it's got the best patrons. Other bars tend to get packed early with lots of hipsters and lines are out the door. Soho's is chill, quit, the people are nice and the bar staff is usually pretty decent. The beer selection isn't the greatest but it's not awful and they have a pretty good drink menu, if thats your thing. I like it and like that its an option in my hip little town read more

This is the bar my friend and I go to whenever she is in town. It's pretty laid back and never crowded. They have a couple of seats available outside. The prices are on the higher side, which doesn't bother me because I stick to one. Not fabulous, not horrid. Just a decent bar to take the work week off. read more

I really like this bar. First of all the bartenders were really friendly. I also liked the music selection. It was a great mix of popular songs that included some country hits. Lastly, I really appreciated that they had bottles of Truly for people who don't like to drink thousands of calories when they want to go out and drink. read more

I'm straight and I love going to soho. I don't really drink fancy drinks so I can't attest to any of their mixed drinks or martinis but I always have a good time when I'm there because everyone's in a great mood ALL THE TIME. Reasonable prices, nice bartenders, Kareoke Sundays, and a patio out back. All great things in my book. read more
