I had lunch at Soho's a few Sundays ago and was impressed. The restaurant gives you that New York feel in the middle of Charleston with its red brick walls and metallic finishings. On a Sunday the menu is mostly pizza and salads, I tried the chopped wedge, margherita pizza, and the shrimp pesto pizza. All were tasty. Our server was busy but still attentive and the overall experience was one of the best I had in Charleston. Very, very good Italian food. Probably the best you will find in charleston. I loved my shrimp and pesto pizza that was wood fired. My wife loved her gigantic portion of chicken parm and my mom needed a to go box for her artichoke salad. The waitress was flighty and in attentive and the tables could have been cleaner. We had never been here so we decided to stop in to have lunch. When you walk in you notice the high ceiling, tables, the bar and in the back you can see the kitchen is open to the restaurant. Presumably so you can feel better about being able to see who and where they are making the food. We were seated and given menus, they took our drink order and we're looking over the menu and people watching. I see one of the cooks (I refuse to call this woman a chef) plating foods and soups and setting them up to be taken to the tables. She sets a bowl of soup up there and her whole thumb (she's not wearing gloves) ended up in the soup, she sticks her thumb in her mouth and licks it off. She does not wash her hands. She proceeds to continue to plate other foods and getting food on her fingers and licking it off without ever washing her hands or putting gloves on. At this point we have decided we have to say something, my husband asks to speak to the manager. The manager comes over to ask what the problem is and my husband explains to him what we saw, he was very polite and says thank you and tells my husband he'll correct the behavior immediately. We watch the manager walk over to the cook and talk to her, he then turns around and points to us. He has just told this woman that we are they ones who complained and points us out to her! At this point we are getting up to leave and we see her turn to us and make a show of putting gloves on. We left. The manager never said another word to us and never asked us to pay for the drinks. Great for lunch, dinner and take out. My only wish is that they would allow you to bring your own bottle of wine and charge a corking fee. Though they have an extensive wine list, the California selection is somewhat limited. Great food, service, can get a bit noisy. Fun to sit outside in the evening! read more

We ordered the pecan encrusted tilapia and margherita pizza. Our appetizer was the mini crab cakes. The crab cakes and sauce were quite good and appeared to have been made at the restaurant (though I might be wrong). The margherita pizza was a very tasty thin-crust one. The pecan tilapia was as good as I have eaten anywhere. It lacked flavor, which is typical of north-american cuisine, but a marmalade topping/sauce made up for it. I would order all of the food items again. It was a very good experience that included a great waitress and a constant flow of delicious bread and butter. read more

Decided to try Soho's this afternoon. I had a wonderful vegetarian lasagna. The zucchini, tomatoes and walnuts balanced each other well. My mother had the blackened salmon and shrimp. They were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. I only come into town a couple of times a year but I hope to eat here again in the future. read more

We have been a fan of Sohos since they opened. Tonight we were very disappointed. Something just didn't click with our waiter and us. No warmth. No welcome. No anything. We could have been at MvDonalds and received better service. The food was good as usual however the service needs to be watched or trained better. When asking for additional bread another waiter brought it but instead of replacing our plate he scraped the new bread and butter onto our used plate which I feel is tacky. We were never offered a pour of wine ( we did our own ) and when we mentioned we were taking the remainder of bread home the response was "ok". No offer to wrap. Food. Good. 1 is not low enough! now to start with the food and our waiter were great. the rest of my experience from start till we left was awful. if you are not from there and dont have alot of $$$ then most of the staff will ignore you. the owner was seen just working those tables and ignoring new people that need seated. 3 groups we seen come in stood there an waited an left while she looked up and continued to chat with those specific groups of people. this was my first an last time going there. i had a long day working in the heat an wanted some good italian food. after experiencing this the owner asked how was it? i replied ok an her responce was "well, you are not very friendly are you?" that was the nail in the coffin. go to mcdonalds over this place might get better customer service. read more

Marina is great at the bar on Saturday evenings. Food is always delicious. Thin crust pizzas ++. Salmon and shrimp ++. Chicken Cesar salad ++. Veal meatballs ++ We usually eat there at least every other week. Highly recommended. read more

Meal started off ok. Seafood chowder was good. Kind of like a Manhattan style clam chowder. Decent flavor. All downhill from there. Poor service, the waitress took three tries to get our order and still got it wrong, two easiest things on the menu the burger and the caprese salad were both bland and uninspiring. Don't waste your time Service was acceptable but food was horrible when an Italian restaurant can't make spaghetti. The sauce was so over flavored with ? Oregano that literally the tomato was not able to be tasted it really tasted like bottled sauce with a ton of herbs added to kill the taste. The shrimp was not spoiled but had no taste. A desert of ice cream only The server said I don't know why it is melted, feeling the plate it was hot where it must have just come out of the dishwasher. Find somewhere else read more

The hostess was rude and stuck up, didn't greet me and my girlfriend when we entered she just looked at us like we were stupid. The food was sub-par and all the meat except duck was over-cooked. Jambalaya out of a box is better than the tomato sauce they put over the top of the fish. The waitress was really nice. I am only giving this place two stars because while the service and dessert were good, the entree was the worst dish I have ever had. I ordered the marinated trout with vegetables and tomato oil. The fish I received was so bland no amount of salt and pepper could help. The fish was clearly not marinated, it had no flavor whatsoever. It had no aromatic ingredients at all. For $25 a plate, I would expect a lot more. The dish also lacked the tomato oil promised. I would have sent it back, but my company would have been embarassed since the owner was there. I have been here before and never had a consistently good experience. I wouldn't go back unless I was dragged there. read more

SoHo is a great Italian restaurant located in the heart of, surprise, Charleston, WV. It's located just of 77/64 in the Capitol Market, a great marketplace full of specialty food vendors and a farmers market in the summer. I ate here while visiting family in Charleston and I've gotta say, it was a huge relief to walk in here after seeing and eating in nothing but mediocre chains. The waitstaff was awesome. They were very friendly and helpful. The food was also phenomenal. The space is kind of small, but feels very open. They do a great job of making it feel like a place in SoHo (although I've never been to New York before, so what do I know). They start you off with a serving of bread, which is really good. I wish they would've given us some olive oil though in addition to the butter. For an appetizer, we ordered the bruschetta, which was great. It had shrimp, tomatoes, cheese, pesto, and peppers on it. It came fresh out of the oven, which made it taste even better. For my entree, I had the seafood ravioli (which is the Ravioli Con Pesce on the menu). It was stuffed with shrimp, scallops, and cheese and was in a crayfish-tomato broth. I loved it. The broth really added to the ravioli. There was one lone crayfish in the broth. For dessert, I had the cannoli. I also loved it. My mouth is actually watering while I write this because the cannoli was so good. Overall, if you're in Charleston, WV, take a break from the chains and make a trip to the Capitol Market and eat at SoHo. read more

people like to go to soho's for the crowd, not the food. my mother had what she describes as the most terrible dish she's ever had, and she sent it back. but they still charged her. i think it was clams in garlic sauce and noodles. most of the food tastes like it's been microwaved. read more

I've lived here in Charleston for a few years and have eaten at Soho's mostly for lunch. My lunch experiences have always been decent enough for a return visit, but I was never overly impressed with Sohos. I had dinner there last night and I think my opinion of Sohos has definitely changed with that experience. While, I still hold steadfast that it is more properly categorized as "Italian inspired" as opposed to true Italian, I will certainly be making more dinner trips here. I had the lasagna (a safe choice, but solid by all accounts). My husband had the stuffed peppers (which is their reoccurring Thursday special, we were told). I tasted them and they were quite good. They were made with italian sausage, spinach and goat cheese. I think the flavors went together really well. Our dinner guest had the veal meatballs and had outstanding things to say about his dish as well. The service was also pretty good. Our entrees came out in an appropriate amount of time behind salads/ the appetizer. Overall the dishes had good flavor, sauces were good and nothing was too salty. I ordered the peach shortcake which was the dessert special that evening. It was HUGE!! My husband and I split it and could not come close to finishing it. It was just ok. I wish the peaches had been fresh instead of canned and the biscuit they used was a little hard. The saving grace of the dish was probably the peach ice cream from Ellen's (local ice cream shop). I think Sohos is a good place to take out of town guests for dinner. The menu had a lot of options and the prices are reasonable. You can have a good dinner in a casual, but still pretty nice atmosphere. read more

wow. prior visits were good. But this week was a disaster. Such a negative time I will refuse to go again. And it all radiated from the very present and brooding owner. Our server was very good, the food acceptable but the service, things overhear, ignoring parties at the door while kissing and hugging favored/ repeat customers. People stood 10 min at the hostess stand then turned and sadly left. The experience sadly MUCH overrode the food and atmosphere. Some comments overheard and made to other staff would along have justified just standing and leaving. So disappointing. the final shot was the owner with a cigarette outside when we were leaving and FINALLY noticing us and asking how the experience was. I was silent - wish I had not been. But my spouse said "it was okay" - that got a rude comment from the owner herself directed at us!! THAT makes a bad experience into one that needs shared with you- it is NOT a good place. If you want to ruin a day of your life and fill it with negativity and a heavy sense of anger- go here. If not - there are many other good choices nearby! read more

This place came at the recommendation of a colleague who is a local. He told me that the atmosphere was great, the food was even better and the service was top notch. Good news is that the hype was true ... at least for me. I debated between an appetizer of Escarole e Fagiole or Ministrone soup, but the server steered me toward his favorite of Ministrone. I'm glad I heeded his advice; it was delicious. So much flavor! For my entrée, I decided on the Pork Porterhouse Steak. My goodness that was terrific. I am not a huge fan of summer style squash, but let me tell you that this was seasoned perfectly and it was a beautiful compliment to the rest of this dish. To finish out the meal, I opted simply for a cup of coffee, but my co-worker got a piece of Tiramisu for dessert. I only had one bite, but it was delectable. Congratulations to the entire kitchen for a really wonderful experience. Joseph, our server, was perfectly attentive and did a great job of guiding us through a meal of difficult decisions (EVERYTHING looked so good). As for the atmosphere, I loved it. It was simple elegance ... perfect for a casual or dressy affair. I hope that the next time my travel plans have me in Charleston I can make time enough to return. read more

My wife and I took a chance on a table the night of a big concert in town. We had many other options available but this was near the venue and near where we parked. We were informed they were booked inside but had outdoor tables available. We were sat at 5:45 and placed our order at 6:04. Were were served ice tea and a plate of assorted bread. On 3 occasions our waiter stopped by our table and told us our order was in. At 7pm we informed him we had to leave to attend our event. He brought some rough looking lady who presented herself as the manager to inform us that we should have known that on a busy night the patrons with reservations got priory over the walk ins. I informed her that we had other options for dinner and she should have told us we most likely wouldn't get served. We could have went to Berry Hills Country Club, Paterno's at the Park, Bricks and Barrels or a dozen other places that are professionally managed. What I do know is, I will not be taking clients and friends to Soho's again. Average food, food, high prices and ignorant service. No thanks. read more

I ordered the pasta dish that was supposed to have a puttanesca sauce. It did not have anchovies, kalamata olives or capers. It was more of a chunky marinara with red pepper flakes. It was very good but not a puttanesca. When I pointed this out to the manager he started to argue with me that his chef was Italian and this was his puttanesca sauce. So, maybe every Italian I know and every recipe on Google and every Italian restaurant I have been to in the world is wrong and this guy is right. High end prices but not high end management or chef. I also had a caprese salad that had the right components, but was served at about 35 degrees. Coldest tomatoes I have ever had that weren't frozen. Good flavor but tomatoes taste so much better at room temp which is how it should have been served. So if you don't mind high prices and food that is not properly prepared, go there. It is way better than a chain restaurant, but not equal to its hype. read more

The restaurant was crowded and it took over 45 minutes to get our food. We had a party of 9 and 4 of the meals were sent back because they were cold, and a fish dinner was still frozen. The waitress did the best she could under the circumstances and apologized more than once.. Mrs. Soho bawled her out in the middle of the restaurant and then asked if we would like to see the chef. We didn't. She was very RUDE and told us we were belligerent since we complained. She clearly is out of her element and should not be at the restaurant in any capacity. She needs to stay home. We used to frequent the place regularly, but will not go back.; Ironically, the credit card we signed, which included the tip, did not appear on the charge processed by the bank..
