The server and the hostess were both very pleasant! I can say for sure that the service is very up to par! Our service was a sweet older black lady. They get 5 stars! Sadly, the food was terrible. I had the Tuesday special and the breading was so thick that when I cut my pork chop, the breading just came off like a shell. And the shell breading was the only thing that had "some" flavor to it. The rest of it was just disappointing. The salad was good, but I noticed one thing when I was going to the bathroom- there was a tray full of already-made salads, like the one I got, and I can only imagine they just let it sit out there on the counter on the tray - I really hope not. The food was 2 stars! The ambiance is nice. I would say it's very pretty with all the exposed brick, but nothing more. The bathroom was clean. It's one stall, and it has a door and then the sink is outside of the toilet area. So it's really just a one person bathroom. Would I return? Definitely not. Food was amazing. I had shrimp creole, fried shrimp, stuffed bell pepper. It tasted like it just came off the boat in the gulf. So fresh! Service was wonderful. I was greeted at the door, went to my seat and was immediately attended to by Aubree, she was courteous, attentive, yet let me order and enjoy my food at my own pace. This restaurant has been around for a long time. The ambience always gives a calming vibe letting you enjoy the experience. Not even taking into account the fact that the food quality has declined over the decades, this specific experience was a call in carry out order for a fried oyster Poboy. I didn't think to ask the price, and they didn't mention one, when, under the circumstances, they absolutely should have. I assumed it would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $10-$16. My husband wanted catfish opelousas but with fried catfish instead of grilled. They refused to do it. it's a piece of catfish. I usually get the shrimp Alfredo and the sauce was always so delicious I could lick the bowl. Tonight you didn't even see the sauce much less taste the sauce, it was like eating wet plain node, i asked if I can have more Alfredo sauce and they said it premeqaured per serving and comes in a cup and they would have to charge me extra for the sauce that they clearly didn't even put on it. I am a fairly frequent visitor to Soileau's Dinner club, mostly for lunch. I must start by saying that the food is generally very good, the wait staff for lunch is excellent. I go often for lunch and have gotten to know the ladies who wait on tables very well and they are wonderful folks. On April 24, 2026 my sister and I went for lunch. My sister is a parkinson patient of over 25 years and it has gotten very difficult for her to ambulate. On Friday the 24th she was in a wheel chair. She needed to go to the restroom and I wheeled her into the restroom, and in order to provide privacy for her I exited the restroom. In transferring back to the wheel chair, she fell backwards in the wheelchair. I am in my eighties and a cancer patient, I was unable to lift her and the wait staff was unable to lift her as well, so she said I will see if Josh will do it. Josh did not do it instead left the restaurant. One of the cook staff, a very slim lady was able to slide by the door and picked her up with very little effort. Josh is a very young man and could have done it but as I said he left the restaurant abruptly. I am not as angry as I am disappointed. I will definitely think twice about visiting Soileau's again as I do not want to financially support that kind of behavior. As a manager, it appears to me that he would have wanted to assess the situation to determine whether or not there was liability on the part of the restaurant. Service was ok but every time we asked a question our server didn't know the answer. There is no substituting anything on the menu. What the menu says is what you get. Although I have tried to summarize it in a more flattering manner and failed, I must admit that dinner at Soileau's on September 16, 2023 was the worst dining experience that I have had in at least 5 years. What adds salt to the wound is that management and staff seem to be aware of this and still do not care. We went to Soileau's to celebrate a friend's birthday with a party of approximately 20 and we arrived after the majority of the guests. The first thing we noticed was that our shoes were sticking to the floor as we walked, indicating that the floor was not clean. As we went on to greet everyone and take a seat, we waiting for a member of the waitstaff to bring us a menu and take our drink (and possibly appetizer) orders. Well I was definitely wrong to expect such because 17 minutes after we sat down, I sent my daughter to find a waiter/waitress to take our drink orders because I made eye contact with the female waitress attending to the table several times and even beckoned her over yet she still ignored me. Eventually, a male waiter came over, took our drink orders, and 25 minutes later, brought them over to us. What we noticed while waiting for drinks is that like the floor, the table was extremely streaked and sticky, indicating that it needed proper cleaning. The members of the waitstaff were not really groomed as people waiting tables should be and that, along with the lack of light and tasteful decor, was a precursor to everything else we experienced. Just as it did with our drinks, it took maximum effort to find someone to take our orders....even though the female waitress had already started bringing food to others at our table. The menu is extremely outdated and uninspiring with a limited amount of choices. Nothing really ticked our tastebuds so as an appetizer, we ordered Onion Rings thinking that there is really no way to mess up onion rings. As our entree, we ordered one of the variations of their seafood platters ($30) which supposedly included a side, fried oysters, fried shrimp, a stuffed crab, and a stuffed bell pepper. We purposely ordered this one because the other variation included frog's legs. I guess the waiter felt that we should eat the appetizer and entree together because he brought them out at the same time (at least 20 minutes after we ordered) and boy were we disappointed. As we lifted the onion rings, the batter basically crumbled off and fell into the plate, leaving us holding a naked, greasy ring of onion. The dinner salad was served in a Formica bowl and contained roughly chopped, wilted iceberg lettuce and ONE cherry tomato sitting on top. I guess this is the norm for salads at Soileau's because every other salad on our table looked identical. The seafood platter was anger inducing because the first thing we noticed were two frog legs (which were bigger than everything else) that we made sure would not be included on our plate by ordering a platter sans frog legs. I kid you not, the TWO fried oysters on the platter were the size and consistency of smoked canned oysters and the TWO fried shrimp were hard and lukewarm to the touch, indicating that they were over cooked quite some time before serving. There were two fingers of catfish that were approximately 3 inches long each and both the stuffed bell pepper and stuffed crab were both lukewarm and very greasy. We tried to call over the waiter to correct our order and replenish our drinks but were ignored. When the waitress finally did come, she seemed indifferent to my complaints about the order being wrong and did not take it back. What she did do (which was totally inappropriate) was remind us about the included gratuity due to the size of our table...no one was even thinking or concerned about a gratuity but her bringing it up was like a slap in the face since our drinks had been sitting empty since before the food came out. The stuffed potato would have had potential had it been freshly made; the subtle taste of freezer burn was present which deemed it inedible just like everything else. Something extremely odd--two minutes before coming out with the boxes, she brought a platter of pistolettes to the table---I was under the impression that bread was served either before or with the meal, never afterwards. They were lukewarm and hard, another waste. After handing out to-go containers and checks, the waitress hovered over asking if we all were ready to pay. What is funny is that she came back to the table several times to ask about payment yet could not be found when we needed to order or had a problem with our food. It was obvious from the beginning that management knew we had issues at the table yet no one came over to ask. We left Soileau's after paying our tab and gratuity and ended up in a drive-thru where we received better service and fresh food. Do not waste your time or money trying to dine here. read more

I visit Soileau's almost every time I'm in Opelousas. The food is consistently good! My mom had the fried shrimp and catfish platter and I had the pepper steak. For someone who eats like a bird (other ppl's words, not mine), I finished my entire plate of pepper steak. It was strips of filet mignon so tender it could be cut with a fork. The sautéed onion and bell pepper mix accompanying the steak was so flavorful! The meal was made complete with a stuffed baked potato on the side. Sweet tea was really good. Service was five stars. They have two seating areas, one darker and more private, the other more open and bright. The waitstaff is very polite and attentive, and the food is quite good. They have a daily lunch special that is typically a very good value, and comes with a salad. Po-Boys are large and luscious as well. Prices are moderate, and the menu has lots to choose from. These po-boys will be talked about until the day we die. They're big. On soft, chewy bread, still slightly crunchy, a tiny bit spicy. This is the catfish po-boy that you dream about. Do not get overzealous and get the fries, ugh. But the remoulade (comes with the fries) is SO good, so I'm sure it comes with something else. So if you're lucky enough to have the I-10 bridge over the swamps to be out on your trip, or you just live in the area, these nice ladies will hook you up! Also as aforementioned. Sad! Saturday night, half empty restaurant. Early dinner before a show at Evangeline Downs! Drinks, appetizers and salads all brought out at the same time. An hour later, no refills, no entrees, no server to be found. Once flagged down, she went to check on our food. When she returned, she told us that our order had been misplaced and they were now working on it. We asked how much longer, but she did not know. We asked to speak to the Manager, who came but just said we'd come at a busy time and things happen. He took $2 off of each ticket (our drinks) and said our food would be out shortly, but he'd had to leave his station to come talk to us. So rude! When we got half of our food, it was cold and undercooked. Never got our fries or another refill, no condiments or water. When I hear a combination of the word's "Opelousas" "Ville Plate" "tomorrow" and/or "9am," I usually immediately think "I'm packing a sandwich for work." Although the two and half hour drive from New Orleans is usually worth it because I can pick up a box of Billy's Boudin returning, I never find much to eat in these towns. But now I'm happy I found the good stuff. Since 1937, this family style, cajun and American cuisine diner has been producing some pretty damn satisfying meals. From deep fried catfish, to deep fried shrimp, crawfish étouffée, T-bone steaks in mushroom wine sauce, pork chops and even deep fried stuffed bell peppers. And they make some of the best tartar sauce I've ever had. The house made thousand islands was out of control! While salad wasn't flashy, just simple lettuce, cabbage, carrots and radishes, the dressing rocked! I licked the plastic cup container clean. Service was solid. I'm sorry I forgot her name, but she was good at answering our questions and even admitted what she couldn't, whereas "bs" waiters usually just talk too long while I'm waiting for my order to be entered. Our apps came out fast, and there was very little delay between busing and delivering our entrees. Massive portions. Excellent price for the size. Water glasses were kept constantly full. Small note, there was no lemonade, so no Arnold Palmers (but there was sweet tea). The interior could use a little bit of a face lift, and the bathroom, while clean, wasn't much than gas station level. The men's entrance opens to two doors: one in front of you and the actual men's to the right. It was kind of a tight space, and I had to lean over the garbage can to wash my hands. The entrance to the restaurant is typical of a diner. Seating is nominal, yet abundant. Dimly lit. Clearly a local establishment, though it's probably not often folks are coming to Opelousas for tourism, it certainly has won my business every time I'm in town. read more

We ordered onion rings as an appetizer, it was good if you like onion rings, but I wish I would have skipped them and save room for the main course. The salads were also just ok. The four dinner orders were outstanding. We had Catfish Opulusious, Red Snapper, Steak and Shrimp, and Tilapia. They were out of crawfish for my catfish dish, but they substituted shrimp. No problem, it was great. Everyone agreed the food was delicious and the helpings plentiful. The stuffed potato was exceptionally good. We had so much food, we took a some home. Soileau's has always had a special place in our heart for our family. My grandparents and parents have been going here for ages. The food is still as good as it was originally. Service sometimes it slow but the food makes up for it. Miss Beth coconut pie is out of this world! They have the best fried shrimp of all the restaurants I've been to in south Louisiana. Had to change my rating as the quality level seems to have dropped. We got the gumbo, and it didn't seem as thick and rich as in the past, the salad was from a bag, the salad dressing was no longer homemade, and the shrimp in my Poboy tasted different. The crawfish were washed properly, seasoned well, and a good combination between not to thin vs thick of sauce. Ummm. Yummy. Just like mom and dad used to make. Generous portions that fill you up. Before we moved to Opelousas from North Texas we would make the drive to stock up on Cajun food and visit family and friends. During a road trip, visiting towns and cities all over our great state, we wandered upon Soileau's. We looked it up, heard some rumors it was good, and headed over. And holy fuck it was good. Please excuse my language. I usually hate expensive restaurants, and by my standards this is expensive, but the taste of the food far outweighed the price. I really felt like my money was well spent here. However I can't remember the feeling I left here with. If I was enormously full or not that is. I may have had some beers though. I ordered the Catfish Opelousas, which is one of their signature dishes. It essentially was catfish, stuffed with crab meat, covered in a crawfish etouffee like dressing. It was fucking good. I have vivid memories of it sliding it to my gaping pie hole. The good thing about this place also is that you don't have to sit in all the shit a normal restaurant with prices like these has, like fancy table cloths, fancy waiters, bougie attitudes. Infact this place is a little decrepit looking on the outside. But its a must if your in the area and don't mind paying the price. This would have a higher rating if prices went down, but it does have a big damn menu with alot of selections. I would definitely eat here again. And you should eat there now. read more

Found this on yelp on our way to New Orleans. We we're getting hangry in our RV and we were looking into some great southern style cooking and we found it! We ordered a bunch of different studs from the menu and everything tasted so good! Jamie, our waitress was Amaezing and had a great vibe. Wife and I returning from annual visit to graves in Washington, ici- stopped in at an old landmark for lunch. We had salad plate with a cup of gumbo. Fabulous. We're from Lafayette and enjoyed a gumbo with a lighter flavor and color. Lafayette gumbo runs from very dark to brown and highly seasoned. Soileau's gumbo was a light tan, almost creole style and moderately seasoned. It was delicious. The shrimp salad was very good with a fair amount shrimp and tomatoes, lettuce also boiled eggs which I promptly put in my gumbo. Old traditions die hard. I must say that we wanted to try the calf liver on the menu but were told the Chef could find none that came up to his standard. read more

Very disapointed in a restaurant that we have frequented many times in the past. Looked forward to dining at Soileau's on our recent trip back down to Louisiana during the Thanksgiving week. I suspect that a new generation of the family has taken the restaurant because the food has changed for the worse. The seafood appeard to be frozen food from Sam's Club or Sysco with most items not etible with little or no seasoning. Our daughter had to send back her fish because she needed a knife to cut the thing. It was replaced with a "to-go" fish but it eventually found the trash. I would not be surprised to see Soileau's on an upcoming espisode of Restaurant Impossible. Too many other great dining options in the area for us to ever return to Soileau's.
