So, I called to ask about the wait and they said probably around 15 mins, so I was about 10 mins away and felt this would be my best option. They weren't personable at all and no small talk at all, just confirmed what I wanted and the shape and thickness I like my brows. It wasn't the gentleness threading I'm used to, but she got the job done and my brows looked great. I felt like they hurt a bit after for a couple of days, so I was wondering if I'd been cut, but I just took care of it at home in my routine moisture care maintenance. Good alternative spot for brow threading that you can trust.

She is the sweetest and is very detail oriented, so I never worry that I'll leave without my brows looking perfect! She always takes her time and I never feel like a number. Only drawback is that parking can be tight if you make appointments on Saturday mornings, as they are located in a busy shopping center.

I have really sensitive skin and always break out after getting my brows done, whether I do wax or threading. I decided I had nothing to lose by booking a brow appointment at Sugar and Hive. I thought I was booking an appointment to have sugaring done, but when I got there they clarified that it was wax, which was no problem. The area was bright, nicely decorated and squeaky clean. There's a large open treatment area where the facials and other skin services are done and then a couple of treatment rooms for body waxing. My waxer happened to be able to do my brows in one of the treatment rooms which I was glad about. I walked in and was floored by the over the top (see what I did there?) decor. The wallpaper on the ceiling is such a nice touch since you're laying down on the table. I love when businesses really hone in on the little details in order to make the space shine. After talking through my options, we decided to go with hard wax, instead of soft, for my sensitive skin. The treatment was painless and afterward she covered the area with hydrocortisone cream. My eyebrows looked very natural and nicely shaped. I was very happy with the service and the best part is that I didn't break out! The hydrocortisone cream must have been the golden ticket. Now the space itself was beautiful but could use some improvements for customer experience. First the room I received my facial didn't have a curtain it was open which made it hard to relax and wind down because I could hear people moving throughout the spa and talking. A lot of talking. Not obnoxiously just more than I'd care to hear since I came to relax. Lastly. The music choices could also be a bit more relaxing like calming/soothing instrumentals rather than music with lyrics. The woman/owner at the front who answers the calls was clearly exceptionally talented. I do actually think HER work is the one broadcasted on social media. My maid of honor reached out via instagram with a photo of what I wanted for my wedding nails and when I got to the salon, I was excited to get started as it was the literal day before my wedding. (We DIY'd the WHOLE thing and I needed to make sure I didn't break any nails in the days before) I can't remember the name of my nail tech, but IMMEDIATELY I realized we were in a sticky situation. I tried to trust the process, showed her photos, told her I wanted a squoval French with the gold line to highlight the manicure. After I watched her MULTIPLE TIMES glue the tips on crooked, and I'm not talking like picky girl crooked, I mean DISFIGURED crooked - Once we got to the gold tip portion, I was told by the woman/owner up front "she can't work with metallics and do lines like that can you pick a different design?" In my head, I'm like, "did you not schedule this?" "Would you let me leave with my hands looking like this?" "Why don't you do it?" But she had another client and was doing anything absolutely gorgeous job on her nails while simultaneously dealing with a tough situation on the phone. I was so totally thrown off guard by this, already by the shape of my nails which definitely were very DUCK looking and the fact that we communicated with their instagram which is riddled with insane talent that I didn't know what to do. The woman up front/owner was very clearly and personally going through something on the phone that I really felt bad about and I just didn't want to ruin anyone's day so I just sucked it up and left with the absolute worst manicure of my life after so many times explaining that these were my wedding nails. My poor maid of honor got similar treatment where she got dip nails and her male manicurist put them back in white dip at the end so her nails literally looked like she played in glue. Im so frustrated. I understand people have hard days, but no one asked me any questions or seemed to care that I was getting married and chose their salon to do my nails. We had a huge wedding of 165 people and I had to show my ring to all of them - my nails will be plastered in photos for everyone to see. I tried to file them down on the sides, went to a cvs to try to fix them myself after our rehearsal dinner as I had 0 time to do anything since we were on a pretty big time crunch and my index nail on my left hand was literally pointing right. The salon itself is pretty, it seemed clean, but as far as marketing goes, I can't believe this happened to me. I paid 70 dollars and I always try to tip well, because I do want to believe the tech tried her best and that it wasn't necessarily her fault that the appointment we made was for something she couldn't do, so I tipped $20. Disappointed, sad and honestly feeling a bit robbed by them still. One week after as well, there was an odd gap of clear space between the French and the actual pinkish color that literally turned yellow on our honeymoon. Mortified to show my hands there. Now, even after I correctly took off the nails with acetone, I am left with an awful RING OF FIRE on my nail beds. this has never happened to me before and from what I hear, it means the tech was careless. The gift that keeps on giving! So now, after my wedding and getting my new and beautiful ring, I can't even get my nails done to show it off. I have to wait until these grow out. When I tell you I feel like a whole seal in the best way, I am not exaggerating! Skn & Wax Bar is in a very cute and clean salon studio on the West side, and the owner, Kendra, has organized and designed it with the cutest decor. On top of that, her space is absolutely spotless. She uses the best products for absolutely everything, from the wax down to the table cover + draping cloths. Kendra is incredibly kind + personable, the type of person who immediately makes you feel comfortable. I'm an extroverted person who doesn't necessarily struggle with timidity, but still, she has the kind of personality that I imagine makes even shy or withdrawn people very comfortable--she's just naturally sweet and kind with a positive and joyful disposition. I went here not having been waxed in over six months, so you can imagine what we were working with. Cut to my shock going from 'literally cannot live like this one more day' to 'OMG this is the best wax of my life' within 30m. Kendra was *extremely* detail-oriented and made sure she left nothing behind. It wasn't a super fast wax, and in fact it took some time (about 35-40m , realistically), but I've had plenty of fast waxes in my life only to get home later and find lots of little hairs still hanging around. Not this time! I knew it looked and felt good when I left, but it wasn't until later when I was at home showering that I realized that, perhaps for the first time in my two decades of waxing, I was really, truly, completely bare. I can't tell you how clean and amazing it feels! As for pain, which I see as collateral damage, but I totally understand is the dealbreaker for many people: Kendra has a great method that actually protects you from excessive pain, even in the tenderest of spots. She's also very cautious to instruct you to take a deep inhale when she knows it will be more harsh, which helps tremendously. Overall, it barely hurt at all, and I definitely had NO lingering pain when I left (which is not always the story with waxing). Kendra has a client for life in me.
