The communication is abysmal, particularly from Sarah and Alicia, who are repeatedly unresponsive and unhelpful. Emails go ignored, questions are dodged, and if you do finally get a reply, it's vague and often inaccurate. They don't follow up, they don't follow through, and unless you ask five or six times, you will not get any clear answers or confirmations. You are constantly left chasing them down just to get the most basic information. To make matters worse, they will charge you whatever they want, whenever they want, without warning, explanation, or approval. You won't be notified of fees or changes unless you hunt them down to ask. If you're offered a credit, promo, or adjustment, take a screenshot and save every email, because they certainly won't help you figure anything out after the fact. Once you've signed up, you're on your own. Bijan is somewhat more communicative, but not enough to make up for the chaos. There's clearly no leadership or accountability here -- it feels like a group project where no one knows what their role is, and no one really cares. Facility-wise, it's barely above average. Courts are often overbooked, the gym space is mediocre, and amenities are inconsistently maintained. You're paying premium rates for a second-rate experience across the board. Bottom line: The Downtown Met is a textbook case of mismanagement and indifference. For a place that calls itself a "premier fitness and tennis club," it operates more like a poorly run pop-up gym with no structure or respect for its members. Look elsewhere, literally anywhere else would be a better use of your time and money.

They stack bday parties every hour and the space feels so crazy with the parties overlapping. The good thing is that they allow for us to bring your own food and drink. We used to do gymnastics here for the kid classes but it became increasingly difficult to get into the jam packed classes. Fast forward to today, and while gym memberships across the board aren't cheap anymore, this specific location simply hasn't kept up with the times--or with other branches nearby. If you've been to the Clay location, the difference is night and day. Over there, the weight room is bigger, the amenities are better, the pool is fantastic, and the staff treats you like a paying member. Here on 34th: The facilities fall short: Other locations have solid steam rooms, saunas, quality pools, and great equipment. Here, the pool is mediocre at best, and the workout floor is cramped and desperately needs an expansion and more machines. The vibe from staff is hit-or-miss: Most of the staff are fine, but a couple of folks act like they're doing you a massive personal favor just handing you a basketball to shoot around on the court. Nobody should feel like asking for standard gym equipment is going to get a whole report written on them. The only real selling point for me is convenience--it's a five-minute drive from my front door. But if you've got an extra ten to fifteen minutes to spare, do yourself a favor and hit one of the other branches. You'll get better equipment, better amenities, and way less attitude.

The venue was nice as it was tucked away from the city and had a relaxing vibe. It was still bright when we arrived and the huge expansive pools look inviting. There was valet or self parking available. It was up to you to request your preference. The default is valet. The service was friendly and we felt at ease throughout. No airs. They opened the doors and greeted us upon entry and exit. The entrance had a nice and spacious foyer. A flight of stairs led to the venue of the event. Check in was a breeze. My favorite cocktail bites for the evening were the coconut crusted shrimp with plum sauce as well as the mini lump crabcakes with aioli. They paired well with the glass of bubbly. Took a variety of nibbles that was provided from crackers to cheese to berries to sandwiches. They were ok. Before leaving, we had some calming herbal tea with a squeeze of lemon wedge. They gave us iced tea in to go cups for the road.

It is not an arcade, though, with rent being paid by sponsors and a spartan setup that is not much more than the tables, some chairs, and banners on the otherwise relatively bare walls. It opens every Friday night for free play, though there is a small cash buy-in if you want to play in the tournament they hold. This, however, is definitely not your childhood's skating rink air hockey. While everyone is welcome to join, a good number of people that show up are serious players with United States Air Hockey Association rankings who tape up their hands and bring their own personalized mallets just like athletes in any other sport. The tournament games are livestreamed, and there is a separate closed room where one of the members commentates for the livestream. Despite the intensity, everyone is very nice, especially Pete, the guy who seems to be the point person for the operation. When not playing himself, he explained some of the finer points of the game, answered questions I had about the players and history, and showed me the app they use to track rankings as well as demonstrate different playing tactics and maneuvers. I had no idea there was this much organization or seriousness regarding air hockey, and it was really interesting to take in. While I just watched on this occasion, I might make a trip back on a future Friday to take part myself.
