Birthday Party Absolutely fantastic service and hospitality: - Four attendants helped us set up and decorate. Honestly they did most of the work and let us relax. - They cleaned up, moved our coolers to the front, and packed up all of the birthday presents for us. - Passed out pizza and cake quickly and efficiently and did not have any kids waiting - Structured play and unstructured "free time" for the kids to play - Extras that weren't expected included a medal stand for the birthday kid to stand on, medals for all kids, and a trophy for the birthday child. Also they let the birthday kid put their painted handprint on the wall. The birthday party was fun, but the friendliness and service/hospitality was amazing. Booked my sons 4th birthday here without previewing it beforehand, and we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating, and great with kids. I loved the coordinated mat activities, how well they handled meal time, and bagging up all the gifts at the end. The only thing I think would improve the experience would have been a 2 hour party time, instead of 1.5 hour. It goes by so incredibly fast and if anyone comes late there isn't much time to experience the center. read more

This place is SO HARD to find! As you venture down Shepherd from I-10, stay in the left lane. Take a sharp left turn into the parking of what looks like boring corporate buildings right after you go over the second larger bridge. It's hidden! Don't look for a huge store front because it's just a few doors in the front of what looks like a warehouse. Once you get there, it's a pretty cool place. We went here for a 4 year old kid's birthday party. Our friend's rented the place for their little girl's birthday party. The kids could run around and do whatever they wanted. There was an area where food was set up and a long table. Our friends went all out with the food. The kids enjoyed the entertainment. With each kid you will have adults standing around with little to do but talk to each other. It'd be nice if there was some place for them to sit while they chat. Great idea for a party, but think about everyone who will be there, not just the kids. read more

This gave my husband and I free time to mingle with the other parents and actually enjoy spending time with our daughter during her party. There are a couple of friendly coaches there I suppose. However, when I was there with my toddler yesterday, I noticed a very unhappy group of 5-7 year olds there for a camp. The instructor was an insensitive bitch talking down and being aggresive to one of the children and they were really upset. It made me sick to my stomach and I regret not getting her name and saying something to the owner. It was very upsetting to me how mean and bossy she was during the remainder of our time there. Those parents are clearly unaware of what's going on once they drop the kids off. They are supposed to be there to learn, have fun, and build memories, not attend a boot camp. We will not be enrolling our little girl in any more classes in the fall or during any other time in the future. read more

We went to try out of class on a morning for 3-5 years old. So the "coach" Kenny wes well aware that she was new to gymnastics. He showed my daughter how to do a forward roll and handstand. Then the "coach" turns around does not watch. She performs the forward roll fine. Then attempts a handstand on a block while the coach IS NOT WATCHING!!! She falls flat on her face, neck twisted and hand twisted. Above her lip she now has a very small bruise and her face hurts! Are you kidding me? NO SAFETY! No one spotted someone who comes to a trial class. I gasped so did another mother. Unprofessional. Considering gymnastics is the MOST dangerous sport and no one watched a new student. Well after that he spotted and watched all the children. I let her stay for the class since she is tough and I did not want to cause a scene. When they went into an area where I could not see, the pit, I asked to watch and the coach, was nice and he let me. The place is clean, staff is nice. However we will never return. read more

OK, so we have not been in years. Today was a birthday party. So I thought, it has been a long time and I will watch my child closely. I watched her, as a dutiful parent should. However the pit is up very steep, small stairs and I am pregnant and walking up stairs is difficult for me. I thought, there is a employee who is working the party he should be able to keep an eye and manage the children. NOT SO!!! My daughter who is the oldest in the bunch, 7 1/2 comes down trying not to cry. Someone tried jumping over her in the pit, but did not clear her and slammed into her head. Why are people hired to work the parties. AND WHERE on earth do they find these kids. This is a dangerous place, and the kids seem like uninterested immature high school boys. I WILL NOT BRING MY CHILD BACK HERE AGAIN AND WILL DEFINITLY DISUADE ANYONE FROM TAKING GYMNASTICSHERE OR HAVING A PARTY. Facilities seem clean and they have a great leotard selection. My daughter enjoys coming here. When we first started, a couple years ago. One of the coaches was a bit much for me. Fortunately she wasnt my daughters coach. I did mention the womans attitude and yelling to another parent as I was cringing at the way she was speaking and yelling at her more advanced students. The parent just basically said, "That's the coach those student's parents pay for...". All I could think was, " Wow". That's when I learned how serious some people take gymnastics. I witnessed that same coach cause a young girl to cry and it broke my heart and I no longer could enjoy sitting and watching my daughter in her completely separate class because of this womans voice. It took me a year to sign my daughter up again and the woman has calmed down quite a bit, I'm sure many parents complained about her. My daughter is in level 1 and also does the homeschool program during the day which I must say is VERY affordable when compared to their other classes. I can say, however, that attention is given more to the students that look like they're catching on quickly or look like they are interested, for obvious reasons. read more

I cannot believe how great this place is! I've enrolled my little guy in a toddler gymnastics class along with a couple of friends and their kiddos and it is a BLAST! They show them everything from floor to trampolines to trapeze... starting at 18 months old!! It's a parent participation class so I'm getting a mini workout as well. Bonus! It's a little hard to find and parking was challenging. -1 star for front desk staff confusion with my registration and payment. Nothing is more difficult than planning a kid's birthday party - cake? cupcakes? petting zoo? insane clown posse? balloon animals? candygrams?... After attending a party there thrown by one of my childs' classmates, I was hooked on Discover Gymnastics! The party is simple. You provide a date, time, number of kids and some food, and the rest is taken care of for you. The kids are herded into a small group, given some warmup excersizes and then they are off bouncing, jumping and running around exerting all their energy with their toddler buddies... After an hour, they sit, sing, eat and by the time you are done, your kid's loot has been bagged up for you and your are ready to take your exhausted little tyke home to rest, while someone else deals with the cleanup. At the last party I attended I heard the other grownups taliking about you can bring canned beer for the adults. WHAT? I'll never have another party at my house, ever.... One stickler though. KNOW YOUR DATE and TIME. We had the misfortune of having to reschedule for the hurricane and they charged us $25 to move our date. I wouldn't have minded except the girl handling the reservations was quite unpleasant. (Sorry, stupid Hurricane messing up our plans...) read more

My son has thrived here. He just qualified to join the boys' competitive team. It was wonderful to see how proud he was of himself after his first Mini-Olympics performance. The coaches do have high expectations, but they are also very supportive. Our son has become more focused and disciplined. He is also learning the importance of healthy eating, teamwork, and tenacity -- essential life skills. Discovery has been very upfront about communicating their expectations of parents and athletes beforehand. We appreciate the honesty. Some of the comments here refer to birthday parties and location. Those aren't concerns for us, so if you are looking for a high-quality competitive program, I do recommend this gym. read more

I just watched a little girl get completely humiliated by her coach for standing on the wrong side of a white line. The coach screamed at the little girl in front of the rest of her group AND in front of watching parents. The coach then made the little girl sit on the sidelines, crying, in some sort of time out. When I reported the coach's behavior to the staff, no one came to investigate or check on the situation, so I went back and insisted that someone address either the coach or the child. The front desk person directed me to a manager, who acted annoyed that I interrupted his computer time. The manager only promised to speak to the coach after class. The manager completely disregarded the fact that a little girl was upset and humiliated, even after I pointed it out several times. The coach scolded the little girl again before allowing her to rejoin her class. I'm really upset by what I saw and the lack of any immediate response. Totally unacceptable. read more

My daughter had a birthday party here. I was not expecting much since usually these places are not that clean and smell and are just average but my daughter insisted on a gymnastic bday party and this is close to my house. I was so impressed and happy! The coaches were attentive and they were on the floor helping and monitoring the kids. The kids got both free and structured play! And the place seemed so clean! When my daughter went here at first she like it but after a while she was getting upset the coaches were forcing her to do things she didn't want to do one coach made her hold her handstand on the balance beam for 2 minutes until she stopped arching her back her arms were about to give out and she could of broke her nose. They were disrespectful and I would not ever suggest this place to anyone it smells like a dirty sock and is so dirty it was way overpriced for what we were getting anyway! They treated her like she was going to the olympics when she just did recreational I am so glad that I switched her over to cheerleading know she can do what she is confident in a is a flyer. read more

Sincerely impressed with the toddler discovery class and Ms. Kristin. It was my son's first gymnastic class and it was at his level but new and challenging. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the class and I look forward to his first semester. This first class was more than I could have imagined it to be. Kudos to their program! My daughter just turned 8 and started gymnastics here a couple of days ago. I would typically wait much longer to write a review, but on reading other reviews on Yelp about this place, I want to chime in. My daughter enjoyed her first class and wants to continue going. It will be interesting to see how much she learns and progresses as we continue. She enjoyed the coaches she worked with. However, I witnessed a group of girls in an advanced level, and I would not want my daughter to have the coach I saw. This must be the same coach others have mentioned here. She screams at the girls and shames them in front of each other and the watching parents. Her voice is shrill and close to unbearable. I don't mind strict coaching. I myself did ballet at the Houston Ballet Academy when I was young, followed by gymnastics at the Gymnast Academy, and then many years of dance. However, her shrill screaming at the girls, even pushing one young crying girl back in line, is unacceptable. She looked at the girls with total disdain and disappointment over and over again, shaking her head with every move they tried, and barking commands. It was ridiculous. The girls were pretty good but not exceptionally so. It's not like this was anything close to junior Olympics-level gymnastics, so I really can't see any point to this type of "coaching" and degradation. My husband was so appalled that he left. If this continues to bug me and I don't see some actual benefit to having my daughter here at this place which is much more costly than other very good gymnast places in town (Gymnast Factory and Houston Gymnast Academy) then I will ask for a refund and move to another location. read more

This place is the real deal. I saw an Olympic athlete (from Rio) training here. When I bring my 4 year old, I get to watch the teens on the performance team do their warmups and practice...very impressive. This is a school for serious gymnast, definitely. Mine is only 4, but we will see what she can do here long term! The only negative (and it's not really a negative, just depends on how you look at it), this place is huge and it's easy to feel like your baby is going to get lost in the shuffle or overlooked. If you are looking for great instruction for your children in a safe environment that fosters their personal best, this is your place. The comraderie of the parents coupled with the stellar instruction of all levels have left me with no choice but to award Discover with five stars. We have relocated to another city recently and have not found any gym comparable. I can only speak to our experience over the four years our kids particpated in classes and attended multiple birthday parties at Discover. My husband and I gladly recommend this facility for all levels and age groups. read more

My Kid went for Parents Night Out 5 years ago and never left. She insisted on doing recreation classes and was then picked for the team. Many people don't realize that the Discover teams now have the best coaches in the U.S. With olympic and national team coach resumes from around the world--Romania, China, Bulgaria, Columbia, Iraq, and the U.S. Discover now also has team athletes in the USAG Junior Olympic Program Levels 1-10 who are nationally ranked. We are also starting to build an Elite Program and have a gymnast who is now competing Hopes Elite with others on the way. It is true that some days are hard for my kid and she has been yelled at or cried before, but some days she needs the push, or a strict correction so she doesn't hurt herself, but bottom line--She Loves It. She Loves her Coaches, and she loves herself--she does better in school and in life because of the valuable lessons she learns at the gym. Sometimes life is fun, sometimes it's hard--but you don't give up when it's a little hard, because the pay-off if you stick with it is that life gets even more fun, and challenging is a lot more fun than laying on the couch, and so on... read more

Discover Gymnastics is a perfect 10 for parties!!! We recently hosted my daughter's 3 year old birthday party here with guests ranging from 3-7 years old. The staff did an AMAZING job; we were so impressed with how well they handled the kids despite the age diversity and made the party a sweet success!!!! Each child got to try a different piece of equipment -- from the foam pit, to the trampolines, to running/stretching on the floor, to a little obstacle course with bars, hoola hoops and balancing blocks, etc. The staff also helped with setting the tables, putting the food out on each plate with drinks, cutting the cakes and handing out food to our adult guests. Not only did they take care of the prep work, but the clean up too!! We left so impressed with the level of service and care that the staff took to make this birthday party run smoothly and be a special success. Above all, the kids had SOOO much fun and loved marching at the end to get awarded their medals of participation. Even children under 2 years old had fun rolling and crawling on the floor and on gym equipment (parent-supervised of course)!! It was a super easy party and we loved that the kids got to try out all the fun gymnastics equipment -- we would book it again in a heart beat!!!!! There are some great things about this place. The Superhero classes (i.e., fun, non-technical classes, mainly for boys that don't want to focus on splits, pointing toes, etc.) are super fun and relaxed. Great exercise and lots of fun for active kids. And they get to wear capes and use pool noodles as light sabers! We have also attended several birthday parties and had a great time. My only reservations are: 1. The camps allow attendees to bring nut products for lunch, which means there is peanut butter on lots of little fingers, and therefore all over the tables, chairs, water fountain, equipment, etc. So for kids with deadly food allergies, this can be a very dangerous place. I've also watched a nanny eat a bag of mixed nuts in the waiting area and not only spill peanuts on the floor, but also feed them to kids she didn't even know. Most places have policies and signage to restrict peanut and tree nut products to ensure a safe environment for all children. 2. As noted in other reviews, I have seen the same coaches for the gymnastics classes speak to the children, even those as young as 4, in ways that it are very uncomfortable to witness. I would be upset if a coach were to bark/yell at my child in that manner. That being said, it clearly gets results because even the young girls have impressive skills. So maybe that is just the world of competitive gyms. read more

After attending another child's birthday party at Discover - my son was so excited to have his 5th birthday party here. I mean after all - Spiderman would show up. I signed a contract months ago to have the super hero package with an additional charge for spiderman. Great sign us up. I signed and was ready to go. The night before the party at 5, i got a phone call from a young girl that worked at Discover to confirm the birthday party set up. When speaking with her there was no mention of the super hero package or spiderman so of course we inquired. Her exact respone, "Oh spiderman is out of town this weekend." - Well Discover you try to explain that to your 5 year old son who has told all of his friends and had been dreaming of having spiderman at his 5th birthday party. Needless to say - they literally broke my son's heart. So what is a mom to do but have a family member dress as spiderman and show up. I tried to get in touch with a manager and or owner and was told everyone was out of town. The whole reason i booked at Discover was for spiderman so unless you want to take the chance of breaking your childs heart too - I would not suggest to do anything with this group. Completely unprofessional and have a bunch of young kids running the place. read more
