Let me be clear, the guacamole cart has not been near the bathroom in years, but it was there in the beginning. So I apologize for even putting it in the review. (hence my addition of a star) I will definitely be going back here because, despite my recent mediocre experience, I do enjoy the food, and I appreciate the owner reaching out to me. I hadn't been in some months, and what a huge disappointment. The service was so disorganized and half-done, (had to ask two different servers for napkins and utensils, after our lukewarm food had already arrived). Onto the food, it was not bad, but I think we were so hungry after waiting, and having to chase the server for another round of drinks, that we were just happy to have food! The person making guacamole was so unresponsive, we wanted another order but she plopped down the first, turned and never said a word as she scampered away, then she was seating customers so we didn't know where to even get more? Had lunch today with BF. I had grilled chicken and spinach enchiladas. He had chicken mole and rice with a side salad topped with guacamole. I had rice and refried beans. Generally I don't care for refried but these were very good The iced tea is delicious. The margarita was very generous and from what I could tell delicious. The chips and salsa are complimentary and delicious. The service could not have been better. From the moment we were greeted until we left we were treated so well. Our waitress was friendly and provided excellent service. We didn't wait long for drinks, food and she was very attentive throughout service. The decor is very authentic. Great service! We went there in a big group, they accommodated us very very well. We were there mostly for drinks (they have amazing tropical drinks) but some of us also wanted to eat a bit. I had ordered nachos to start it was all toppings no chips barely at all, then my dinner came which I ordered a crab meat quesadilla. I took two bites, & knew something wasn't right so I just stopped eating. We got the check & left. Two hrs later I was hugging the toilet bowl for the next 6 hrs. My boyfriend and I have been frequenting Sol de Mexico because it is nearby where we live and we love Mexican food. Overall I really like the place - You can tell that it is a family owned business and the staff really take pride in what they do. The margaritas are HUGE and a really great bargain actually. The food is pretty good, I wouldn't call it the best Mexican food in the world but it's good enough for me. They also have a nice little outdoor seating area on the side. Table side guacamole is also a nice touch. The only issues I have with the place are the menus are always sticky/wet. Also, I ordered the Fajita Taco Salad once, trying to be healthy, and I kid you not it was literally all melted cheese. There was probably a quarter cup of lettuce in it. Very disappointing, to the point where I couldn't really eat it. But that was my only bad meal. read more

Excellent Vegetarian Options! This was the first time we visited since the name and ownership change from Plaza Mexico and I'm so glad we did! We changed our eating habits last year to a predominantly vegetarian diet,but it's hard to find restaurants that offer anything but salad as a vegetarian main course.We were delighted to find several options on the menu here. I ordered the Veggie Fajitas which are prepared with fresh,not the usual frozen vegetables you get at many Mexican restaurants these days. Not only were they fresh,but the variety was outstanding and cooked to perfection! A huge mound of charred tomatoes,onions,bell peppers,mushrooms,carrots,broccoli,cauliflower and zucchini squash were included on the sizzling fajita platter.They are served with three warm flour tortillas and a large side plate of garnish including lettuce,tomato,house Guacamole, and a generous serving of Vegan vegetable studded rice and black beans,specially made without meat or diary for their Vegetarian Menu items. My partner ordered a beautifully prepared Spicy Citrus Margarita which was absolutely wonderful! The service was also remarkable! The host greeted us warmly,the food runners and Guacamole cart chef were friendly, and our server,Amalia was cheery,funny and attentive to our questions and needs throughout the meal.She made sure to send our compliments to the kitchen staff for the incredible vegetables in my fajitas.We also were visited by one of the owners who filled us in on the upgrades made since the restaurant changed names. I've been here quite a few times and have enjoyed it but after tonight I will never go back. Our service was unfriendly from the start. Later into the dinner, my friend received a very different meal from what she ordered and when she asked our waitress about it, the waitress called over the manager to handle it and he was extremely rude to my friend. They later messed up our check and gave us the wrong bill and charged the whole meal to my friends card when we had intended on splitting it. The food is truly authentic, each time we have gone we have enjoyed their homemade guacamole, and tasty meals. The service has been great each time. Best to make reservations as on weekends it can get busy. They have very generous portions, and their margaritas are great. The medium sized margaritas are enormous, so keep that in mind. We have been there twice since it changed names from Plaza de Mexico. The first time I got a burrito covered with queso dip that was large and had a nice flavor, though the chicken was dry inside. Most recently we went and I ordered the fajitas and they were disappointing. The chicken had a good flavor but it was tiny thumb nail sized pieces instead of large pieces of chicken like usual, which made the chicken seem less moist as the small pieces were overcooked. The steak I would not get again, it was flavorless and rubbery. It took quite a while to chew. The shrimp was the best of the three. Fajitas don't come with cheese, which I know to ask for next time when I get just shrimp To top it off our server clearly didn't want to be there. We had to track him down a few times and never got a thank you or a hello. This is the only Mexican place in the area so we are likely to come again, but I hope it doesn't go downhill again like Plaza de Mexico did. Sadly that seems to be the case. Being from the west coast and having been to many Mexican restaurants in the Southwest I am still searching for a restaurant that properly knows how to make Mexican food. This ain't it, but will do in a pinch when craving Mexican. read more
