WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. THE bartender literally takes 30 minutes to prepare a drink. When you go to the bar to order he treats you like you are a piece of s**t. We left after 35th minute of not being able to order anything and he was still working on making the same drink and it wasnt even crowded there!! He just hates his job and made us hate this place. 3 other group of people also walked out without being able to even sit down (even tho it was pretty empty) because this bartender is so slow. Loved this little cocktail spot! Have driven by it several times and eaten next door at single shot but never really noticed this bar. Came here on a Friday night around 7 pm with a group of 4 and so glad we did. You order at the bar but bartender was friendly and quick with the drink orders! I got a perfectly balanced and smoky Negroni-inspired mezcal cocktail (Bitter Caballero). Relatively inexpensive cocktails. Crazy how being a little bit more tucked away in cap hill can swing cocktail prices by $4-5 vs going downtown/belltown. Not complaining. We will be back! read more

I spent a lovely weekend in Seattle about a month ago, and on the Sunday night, just hours before an early morning flight, my friends and I came to Sun Liquor for one last round of drinks. It was a nice spot, in a hip, accessible area with lots of foot traffic--or at least it was within walking distance of Michael K. and Gino G.'s Capitol Hill apartment. The place was pleasant and relaxing--we walked in at around 9:30 and were able to get a table for five with ease. It felt casually trendy, though with a vague Chinese theme to its decor that seemed to have zero to do with anything. There was no table service--Gino ordered our round at the bar. The drinks were great. I guess Sun Liquor is serious enough about cocktails that it now distills its own alcohol--that's some pretty high level cocktailing. There was a list of a couple dozen summer cocktails, priced between $9 and $13. Worth noting--there's a daily happy hour, from 5 to 7, when all cocktails are $2 off. I got the Rebuttal, which was excellent, light and fragrant, made with silver cachaça, fino sherry, banana liqueur, and Sun aromatic orange bitters, served with a lemon twist. I also enjoyed the London Sour, a refreshing scotch cocktail with orgeat, fresh lemon and orange juices, and a float of Islay scotch. On the deeper, boozier side, I liked the Left Hand, a bourbon drink with Cocchi di Torino vermouth, Campari, and chocolate bitters, served with a brandied cherry. I had a good time at Sun Liquor and would recommend it for a well made cocktail in Capitol Hill. If I lived in Seattle, I'd probably make Sun Liquor a second home. It's everything I love in a bar: awesome, friendly, knowledgeable bartender (thanks, Eric!); low-key environs that don't require any dressing up; chill patrons all holding conversations with their little groups; and of course, stellar cocktails. I started off with a peaty whiskey drink that wasn't too sweet - it's the first time I'd ever had a Bobby Burns. I'll definitely be looking up the recipe for my personal home use - with Bénédictine and sweet vermouth, it's right up my alley. Classic cocktails are also solidly reliable, as indicated by my fine Vieux Carré. Although they reportedly don't have a Kold Draft ice machine, expertly-managed cube molds adequately make up for the lack of obscenely expensive equipment. Which is just another reason to adore this joint -- it might not be glamorous, but it more than gets the job done. read more

Favorite little place that gets it right every single time. Sun liquor - dim lit little place with well stocked bar and kicked ass bartenders. There's nothing fancy about this place. No fancy décor, loud speaker system, cushy fancy chairs. Translation- all you pay for is a really good well made drinks!!! And a really good conversation with your bar tenders. Walking in this place makes you feel like you are going back in time.Several decades back in time! It has that old vintage feel to it. Crowd is always low key and mellow. No loud bachelorettes will be parading here anytime soon. It isn't a see or be seen types of place. It also isn't a place to go pick a girl! it's a place with classic/classy cocktails and really good ambiance. Kind of like being in a hotel lobby bar from few decades ago. The drinks however are the best!!! They have the best bitters, whiskey, rum and everything in between. I often just tell the bartender what I'm in the mood for and he usually whips up something amazing for me. This is also the place that introduced me to the whiskey sours! I love their whiskey sours! And the mai tai!! So pretty and tasty. This is a bar that you come for drinks! There won't be any jager bombs or fireballs shots throwing down here anytime soon. You come for something a lot better than typical vodka something! Their drinks are masterpieces. Each handcrafted, made with great effort and taste oh so amazing! There are two locations but this one is almost a hill away from my house. I live at the bottom of the hill by the lake. I have yet to walk up to the bar though. Its an atmospheric place with a long bar, old cane furniture, gilded gold and tarnished edges. Yes! I'm a fan of this little Hawaiian looking lounge. A friend and I came on a Thursday night and it had just the right amount of people. Just enough to have good energy, but not crowded. I got the Deshler, which was good, but my friend and I wanted something a little stronger. We left it up to the bartender and he came back with some delicious cocktail that we both enjoyed but honestly I don't remember what it was. What's so different about Sun Liquor versus other bars? They make their own syrups and "toppers" that are made with real fruit (not the canned stuff)...these are only a few of the items they make in-house to ensure maximum quality. Their drinks are a true masterpiece both in flavor and presentation. One of my favorite guilty pleasures at restaurants and bars alike, is sitting at the "cook line" to admire the chefs practice their craft. I sat at the bar at Sun Liquor and watched the bartender squeeze a multitude of fresh citrus for varying cocktails, dance while shaking drinks, all while smiling and topping these drinks with fresh sliced fruits and veggies. Another thing I noticed, the bartenders actually taste test the drinks before they go out. I'm a big fan of that. Chefs do it, bartenders should always do this as well... but it seems not many out there do anymore. I'm not a huge fan of bloody marys from bars, simply put they use mixes that are either too heavy on the black pepper or too heavy on tabasco and not much else. Sun Liquor's bloody mary mix is made in house, and let me say, the BEST i've ever had. The flavors layered, and complimentary and unlike any bloody mary out there... a hint of horseradish, olive brine, a little spicy and oh so right. Thick and flavorful, topped with a fresh cucumber slice and large plump olives. Perfection. The ambiance is comfy, and the subdued lighting makes it a relaxing neighborhood spot to go have drinks with friends. The parking is horrendous in this part of town, I recommend walking or bus there especially on a Friday or Saturday night. The drinks are worth it. read more

They offer a range of cocktails which we tried the Magnolia which is an awesome twist on an Italian classic with Aperol, grapefruit, and sparkling wine. The Mai tai is fresh and has an awesome coconut flavor. We couldn't help but share the cocktail flight which gives you three smaller servings of summer flavors. They had lemon, allspice, lime, and bourbon across the three of which all worked together really well. This the best bar in Seattle. Small, dark, beautiful. Perfect cocktails, every time. Most drinks rival any high quality $15-20 cocktail you'll have in New York or anywhere else. We accidentally went into the bar next door in search of Sol, but quickly realized that it was not the bar we were in search of. Sol Liquor Bar is a whole in a wall (not to be interpreted negatively). It is an intimate and vibrant bar. As soon as we walked in, we received a warm welcome from Keith, our angelic mixologist. Keith has been in the industry for well over a decade. Keith's knowledge of mixology is supreme. He was able to produce such a fantastic cocktail based on the requested liquor and preferred taste. Being from LA, cocktail bars are not uncommon. However, a good cocktail bar is hard to find. Not only did Keith provide delicious and memorable cocktails, but he also provided a fun environment in which self-expression did not seem forced. I know a gem when I see one, and I can tell you now, if you go for the drinks, you will stay for Keith! Please keep in mind that they rotate their cocktail menu every three months. Therefore, by the time you show up based on those delicious cocktails, they probably will no longer be available. BUT, do you not fret, they have an armory of ingredients and creativity to make sure they meet every single one of your alcohol needs and desires. Excellent cocktail bar tucked away in the hill, Sol is a place to go when you're looking for an unpretentious experience. It's a peaceful place you can dress down at and enjoy amazing cocktails at, with a vibe very much like your favorite local watering hole. The biggest issue you'll have while going here is finding parking. The bar has a unique decor, cross between classy and homely. The furniture is definitely dated, but adds to the charm. The place is pretty small and can't hold large groups. The ambiance is dark but not too quiet. The cocktails here are phenomenal. I wouldn't call them unique or special, but the mixology is on-point. We tried three different cocktails, and all of them were really good. They also have a small beer and wine list, but those are high quality. The service here is decent, but nothing to write about. You have to order at the bar, so there isn't any table service. On a Friday evening at peak times there was only one bartender taking orders and closing tabs. It can be really slow when crowded. Overall, excellent place to go to for a low-key experience and good cocktails. Beware of parking constraints though. read more
