The staff would lay on the couch with blankets on them as if they were home and watch movies and, during this time they wouldn't address my issues I was having!! The men that worked there were abusive, creepy and unprofessional!! The only people I could trust was Marsha, Dr tregar, and edan! I left early because it became very uncomfortable! By the time I got to Avalon I was completely hopeless. I was suffering from major depression and…read morehad been self-isolating for more than a year, alone in my despair. My previous efforts to get better in treatment had always failed. When my family begged me to give Avalon a try, I went reluctantly; for them and not myself, knowing with full certainty that nothing could change for me. After a few months, I can honestly say that I was wrong. The people who work here are amazing. Not just the clinical team (although my therapist was amazing!), but every single member of the staff played a significant role in making my recovery possible. They are all patient, caring and understanding. Their care allowed me to start trusting the process, and that's when the magic happened. Slowly but surely, I came to believe that I can change. I can feel whole, I can feel good. I am starting to believe in a brighter, more confident future. So I am leaving a different person, I have hope now. Edouard T.

While the facility itself is beautiful and the accommodations are luxurious, luxury should not be confused with effective treatment. Reaching out for help was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Instead of leaving feeling empowered and equipped with the knowledge and practical tools I needed, I left frustrated and disappointed with the mental health care system. I don't feel I received the solid educational foundation or long-term coping strategies I was hoping for. They forced their views on to me. I felt trapped. I did not have a wonderful experience and if I ever have to do the rehab circuit again I will definitely be using places that are covered by my insurance. While there were staff members who genuinely cared and tried to help, my overall experience did not meet the expectations I had for such a highly regarded place. I sincerely hope Avalon continues to improve by listening to former clients and placing greater emphasis on respect, boundaries, practical life skills, individualized education, and preparing people for the realities they'll face after discharge. Beautiful surroundings alone cannot replace the knowledge, compassion, and lasting support that people in recovery truly need. I don't think most people understand how hard it is to ask for help. I only write this review so the next person can understand that Avalon is not for everyone. I brought most of my belongings with me only to have 98% of them taken from me upon arrival. Do your research before you spend tons of money on any program that doesn't improve your actual life and give you your own voice back. I'm still sober today but that's because of my connection with God. Hope you get connected to the right team. Thank You

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. In my experience, The Pointe Malibu is not a…read morerecovery center--it is a predatory operation hiding behind a facade of luxury and false promises. If you are considering this place for yourself or, worse, a loved one, please, for their safety and well-being: do not send them here. A Luxury Illusion That Disappears on Arrival In my experience, the photos are pure marketing fiction. What's advertised as a serene, high-end recovery center felt more like a low-grade mental institution the moment I arrived. The disconnect between what they sell you and what you get is staggering--and intentional. Health Hazards and Mold Cover-Ups During my stay, there was a serious mold issue that, in my experience, made multiple clients ill. Instead of hiring professionals to remediate it, they literally painted over the mold, sealing in toxins and making it worse. That's not a mistake--that's, in my opinion, a conscious decision to put profit over human safety. Basic Safety Ignored In my room, there wasn't even a smoke detector. This is Malibu--a region devastated by wildfires--and they house vulnerable clients without basic fire safety. In my experience, that level of negligence is horrifying. Unqualified Staff and Power Trips In my experience, the majority of their "therapists" are not fully licensed but associates. The resident assistants were, in my opinion, unqualified and disturbingly eager to exert control over clients rather than provide actual care. This is not a therapeutic environment; it's a toxic one. Gaslighting as Policy Raise a concern, and, in my experience, you are immediately gaslit and dismissed. The ultimate red flag? When I asked to speak with the owners because management was incapable, I was told communication is only allowed "through counsel." What kind of "healing center" refuses to let owners speak to clients except via lawyers? In my opinion, that says everything. Food Unfit for Clients The food was so bad that, in my experience, most clients resorted to DoorDash just to eat. For a facility charging astronomical fees, this was beyond neglect--it was insulting. Predatory Admissions and Broken Promises In my experience, the admissions director Bridget will say absolutely anything to get your money. The moment you arrive and they have it, the promises evaporate, and you see the truth: this place values profit over people and preys on families in crisis. A Plea to Families If you are reading this while considering this facility for someone you love, please listen: In my experience, The Pointe Malibu does not heal--it harms. It does not support--it exploits. There are real recovery centers that value human life over their balance sheet. This is not one of them. Final Verdict: In my experience, The Pointe Malibu is a predatory fraud that endangers the very people it claims to help. For the sake of your own life or the life of someone you care about, run--not walk--away from this place.

When he left for treatment, I was hopeful. I believed their polished promises and glossy marketing. I thought I was sending the person I love to a place that would help him heal. What I got back was someone far sicker, both physically and emotionally, than when he left. In my experience, this facility is a danger to anyone who steps inside. My partner came home with ongoing health problems that he never had before. The severe mold issue inside the houses made him ill, along with several other clients, and instead of fixing the problem, they painted over it. That wasn't just negligence; it was, in my opinion, a reckless disregard for human safety. Months later, he is still suffering from the effects of that exposure, fighting to recover his health because of their shortcuts and indifference. What breaks me most is that this place didn't just damage his body; it damaged his spirit. He left more broken than he went in. In my experience, the environment at The Pointe Malibu is toxic, characterized by unqualified staff, gaslighting when clients speak up, and a culture that prioritizes control and profit over genuine care. When my partner asked to speak to the owners because management was failing to address critical concerns, he was told that all communication had to go "through counsel." That, to me, is the clearest sign of what this place really is, a business built on fear and legal shields, not a sanctuary for recovery. The neglect runs deep. Even the basics weren't met; his room didn't even have a smoke detector, in Malibu of all places, where wildfires are a real and constant threat. The food was so bad that most clients resorted to DoorDash to eat something tolerable. Everything about his experience screamed cost-cutting and exploitation at the expense of people in their most vulnerable state. In my experience, The Pointe Malibu did not heal my partner; it harmed him. It left lasting physical and emotional scars that we are still dealing with every day. If you are reading this and considering this facility for someone you love, please, I am begging you, don't make the same mistake we did. Find a center that values human life and real recovery. This place, in my opinion, is a predatory operation masquerading as care, and sending someone you love there could destroy more than you realize.

As a therapist myself, I was in search of a professional to help me see the things I couldn't see for myself. A professional to ask the "appropriate" questions to surface the real issues that I had longed to release. I also desired to work with someone balanced - meaning not just strictly scientific in their approach but spiritual as well. I was only able to see Aileen for a brief 2 months or so, but as my intention was set to "be well", and Aileen understanding the short duration we would have together she provided the necessary work for me to release attachments to the past, fears and also helped me to find my voice, step up and step out into the world to fulfill my purpose in life. I appreciate Aileen for the quality of work she provided for me and the variety of techniques she used. It wasn't always just sitting on the couch and talking but there was interactive work involved. I appreciate having something to take home and work on from one session to the next and Aileen offered a variety of practices, meditations, visualizations and other suggestions that I could pick and choose from... or not, if I so chose. I recommend her services to anyone seeking an understanding and effective therapist. One who holds a space of love, openness, and yet directive. I also encourage anyone to join her Meditation Monday class as I also found new insights into freeing my "Self", new friends and community there as well. Aileen is a 10+ and I am forever grateful for the freedom I experience in the present. Thank you, Aileen Nealie :) Cheers, Howard

I got the impression…read morefrom staff there that it used to be substantially better but things started going downhill when it was sold to DBH. They have multiple houses, some nicer than others. I was lucky enough to be in the main house, which has a capacity of 6 (2 singles and 2 double rooms). Because there are multiple houses, things had a tendency to feel a little disjointed and disconnected. My main gripe is that I did not think my therapist was good at all. I was not alone in this feeling; one client actually asked to change out of her care and go to a different therapist. Groups were fine. Mostly short and sweet which I liked. I also enjoyed the outings and movie nights. The staff was great across the board. The food was pretty bad - lots of chicken and bland vegetables. There was a lot of food waste; leftovers were thrown away after 24 hours which I found sad as they could have been donated or given to staff. Little amenities like the laundry service were nice. The hot tub was broken for most of my time there which was a huge bummer. Overall it's an okay place to go to seek treatment but there are better places to go. The best part was the alumni network and follow-up experience - they excel at that.

Title: Extremely Troubling Experience - Please Read Before Choosing This Facility…read more My family recently had a deeply troubling experience involving Cliffside Malibu and their so-called "sister property" in Los Angeles. I'm sharing this to protect other families who may be searching for trustworthy, clinically appropriate dual-diagnosis care. For several weeks, my family member had been in regular communication with a Cliffside Malibu representative about potentially entering their program. We ultimately chose a different treatment center, but when a severe medication reaction occurred at that facility, he ended up hospitalized and in crisis. In order for the institution to discharge him safely, he needed confirmation that another program would take him immediately. He contacted the same representative at Cliffside and was told a bed was available. I personally called that evening to confirm. I was told again, very clearly, that a bed was reserved and that arrangements would be made the next morning for pickup. However, everything changed the moment I asked whether they already had his insurance information on file. Cliffside advertises that they accept his insurance in network. The representative told me he was "under the impression" we would be paying out of pocket--over $70,000 per month. When I stated that insurance would be used, the tone of the conversation shifted abruptly. The next morning, the same representative told my family member that Cliffside Malibu no longer had availability after all, but that they could place him in their "sister property," a location called Casa Palmera in Los Angeles. Given the urgent situation and lack of alternatives, he had no choice but to proceed. What he arrived to was nothing like what Cliffside promises on their website or in their admissions calls. It was literally just a house. There were only two other clients, one of whom left that night, leaving him and one roommate. Meals were ordered from Uber Eats. He was told he would receive group therapy consisting of himself and his one roommate, and a brief weekly Zoom check-in with a psychiatrist. This is not remotely "comprehensive dual diagnosis care," nor what Blue Cross believes they are paying for. In the midst of acute withdrawal and psychological trauma, he was asked to pay $5,000 upfront, which he did--only to discover that the entire experience was essentially a bait-and-switch. He left after one day, now even more distrustful of the treatment system and still in need of medically appropriate care. To make matters worse, the posted licenses for this "sister" facility were expired just days before they admitted him. This raises serious concerns about regulatory oversight and transparency. We will be notifying the insurance company, as the care provided in no way resembled the services they claim to deliver. I am sharing this experience so that other families can exercise caution and ask very direct questions before trusting what is being represented on the phone or online. Our hope is that no one else finds themselves in the same vulnerable position.
