Unfortunately I've been to a number of rehabs and Cliffside was just okay. I got the impression from staff there that it used to be substantially better but things started going downhill when it was sold to DBH. They have multiple houses, some nicer than others. I was lucky enough to be in the main house, which has a capacity of 6 (2 singles and 2 double rooms). Because there are multiple houses, things had a tendency to feel a little disjointed and disconnected. My main gripe is that I did not think my therapist was good at all. I was not alone in this feeling; one client actually asked to change out of her care and go to a different therapist. Groups were fine. Mostly short and sweet which I liked. I also enjoyed the outings and movie nights. The staff was great across the board. The food was pretty bad - lots of chicken and bland vegetables. There was a lot of food waste; leftovers were thrown away after 24 hours which I found sad as they could have been donated or given to staff. Little amenities like the laundry service were nice. The hot tub was broken for most of my time there which was a huge bummer. Overall it's an okay place to go to seek treatment but there are better places to go. The best part was the alumni network and follow-up experience - they excel at that. read more

Title: Extremely Troubling Experience - Please Read Before Choosing This Facility My family recently had a deeply troubling experience involving Cliffside Malibu and their so-called "sister property" in Los Angeles. I'm sharing this to protect other families who may be searching for trustworthy, clinically appropriate dual-diagnosis care. For several weeks, my family member had been in regular communication with a Cliffside Malibu representative about potentially entering their program. We ultimately chose a different treatment center, but when a severe medication reaction occurred at that facility, he ended up hospitalized and in crisis. In order for the institution to discharge him safely, he needed confirmation that another program would take him immediately. He contacted the same representative at Cliffside and was told a bed was available. I personally called that evening to confirm. I was told again, very clearly, that a bed was reserved and that arrangements would be made the next morning for pickup. However, everything changed the moment I asked whether they already had his insurance information on file. Cliffside advertises that they accept his insurance in network. The representative told me he was "under the impression" we would be paying out of pocket--over $70,000 per month. When I stated that insurance would be used, the tone of the conversation shifted abruptly. The next morning, the same representative told my family member that Cliffside Malibu no longer had availability after all, but that they could place him in their "sister property," a location called Casa Palmera in Los Angeles. Given the urgent situation and lack of alternatives, he had no choice but to proceed. What he arrived to was nothing like what Cliffside promises on their website or in their admissions calls. It was literally just a house. There were only two other clients, one of whom left that night, leaving him and one roommate. Meals were ordered from Uber Eats. He was told he would receive group therapy consisting of himself and his one roommate, and a brief weekly Zoom check-in with a psychiatrist. This is not remotely "comprehensive dual diagnosis care," nor what Blue Cross believes they are paying for. In the midst of acute withdrawal and psychological trauma, he was asked to pay $5,000 upfront, which he did--only to discover that the entire experience was essentially a bait-and-switch. He left after one day, now even more distrustful of the treatment system and still in need of medically appropriate care. To make matters worse, the posted licenses for this "sister" facility were expired just days before they admitted him. This raises serious concerns about regulatory oversight and transparency. We will be notifying the insurance company, as the care provided in no way resembled the services they claim to deliver. I am sharing this experience so that other families can exercise caution and ask very direct questions before trusting what is being represented on the phone or online. Our hope is that no one else finds themselves in the same vulnerable position. read more

I don't usually write reviews like this, but I felt it was important to share my experience in hopes that it helps someone else - or encourages the facility to do better. When I first reached out to Cliffside, I was in a very vulnerable place. I was struggling with alcohol, panic attacks, anxiety, and anger, and I knew I needed help. After speaking with them months ago, I was told I could get into the program. They said they would help work with me on my deductible, and I left the call feeling hopeful and excited about finally getting support. I waited nearly two months to get things in order with insurance and my schedule. During that time, I even managed to stop drinking for a short period, trusting that I would soon be entering a program where I could build healthier coping tools and truly begin to heal. But when I followed up, everything changed. Suddenly, I was told I no longer qualified because I "didn't drink enough." I was devastated. I had been holding out for this program, and to be told I no longer qualified--not because I was better, but because I wasn't in the "right" crisis--felt like a punch to the gut. Out of desperation and emotional overwhelm, I started drinking again, hoping someone would finally see I needed help. Still, I received no follow-up, no support, no entry into the program. I feel incredibly abandoned by a place that claims to help people heal. It's heartbreaking to put your trust in a facility, to open up about your pain, and to be left with nothing. I'm now scrambling to find a program--any program--that will take me. I still want help, but the path I thought would be there for me completely vanished. This has only made my anxiety and panic attacks worse. What's most upsetting is that Cliffside made me feel like I mattered, like I was finally going to be supported. That promise was broken. And for someone already struggling with their mental health, that kind of disappointment can be crushing. I hope this review serves as a reminder that people who reach out for help are often hanging on by a thread. Please treat them with care, clarity, and consistency. If you are coming in on insurance expect to be treated as trash. If you are self-pay I'd suggest a different facility as Cliffside does not come close to what the website shows, the things they offer, etc. Cliffside is now owned by a corporation Discovery Behavioral Health & the owner who owned Cliffside when it was actually nice and had good staff has moved on and opened up another treatment facility (a much nicer one). The quality of care has gone to garbage, any and all doctor appointments are over the phone or virtual. The detox protocol does not make you comfortable, I could have easily done a better job myself at home and saved a great deal of money having come here. read more

I went there and I did not feel safe with the sleeping arrangement they had for me considering the fact the nurses office was not inside of the house but attatched outside. They proceeded to put these hard chairs together for me to sleep on with a blanket and pillows that had hairs on them which were indeed not mine. The two girls working in office were indeed talking shit most likely on their computer about me in front of my face. The WiFi is jank as hell and doesn't work. Horrible staff never again zero star repulsive do better do not come here the house is nasty as hell smells rancid. The guy picking me up from the airport port who transported me his car smelt like cigs as well. Just don't go here. read more

I am compelled to write, especially after stumbling upon some recent reviews that do not accurately reflect my experience at Cliffside Malibu. I experienced immense grace from the moment I was admitted all the way through to when I was discharged. I am fortunate to be an alumnus, where I continue to experience robust and informative programming and have found the staff to be incredibly warm and caring. Never once did I feel like this was a "job" for them. I was at rock bottom when I arrived at Cliffside, and the staff treated me like family. I never felt judged, and I always felt heard. Who gets their laundry done and has meals prepared by a chef while walking on the beach with my dog after trying yoga? No one that I know. There are many wonderful aspects of Cliffside, where the emphasis is on healing. My family loved Family Day, and I look forward to many more get-togethers, movies, and outings where I can still connect with those who got out of Cliffside what I did. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to heal at Cliffside Malibu, and I don't take for granted the efforts of each staff member who helped me along the way (and on my continued journey). I know that I am one of the lucky ones, but I owe it to Cliffside Malibu for helping me find my way. read more

My adult son had been in two prior outpatient rehabs. When insurance covered his treatment at Cliffside, I was initially skeptical of such a luxury experience with weekly massages, sound baths, acupuncture, cleaning and laundry service, fresh, organic cooked meals, outings, yoga, trips to the gym and spectacular views. It seemed more like a vacation I thought. But, it turned out to be just what my son needed. With these experiences and the small ratio of clients:providers, he was able to finally open up and start addressing the pain he had been numbing with substances. Tanya, his case manager, helped him with his needs and setting him up with outpatient care. Roxan, his therapist, was a tremendous help to him. Family sessions are available and the nurses and tech staff also offered great support. My son didn't want to leave! My only suggestion would be to have online family meetings available in the evenings/after work hours. read more

I noticed on my feed how many people have found my review of cliff side helpful. I wanted to give an update on my thoughts as look back on that experience and what I've learned since. I went to Betty Ford in Ranch Mirage on June 4, 2019. I have gratefully not had a drink/drug since. When I was in my addiction I was so highly vulnerable and desperate which made me such an easy target for less reputable treatment facilities. Most unfortunately there are so many faculties all over California that pray on addicts and cliffside is definitely one of these. Betty Ford got me sober and AA has kept me sober. read more

I loved my time at cliffside malibu. The houses are beautiful. The staff is very caring and amazing. The medical providers are very knowledgeable and truly seem invested in helping me. I have had a lot of treatment trauma. Coming here I was very skeptical and was not expecting anything great. I now how a different mindset. The care I received was amazing and I am forever grateful to this facility. I am still in contact with people I was in treatment with and they all also had amazing experiences. Cliffside holds a special place in my heart and the heart of so many others. I highly recommend this center for those who want a chance at a better life . read more

What can I tell you about Cliffside Malibu? First, it is the first truly luxury rehab facility I've ever stayed at. I loved everything about it. The catered food has been incredible (I've been here two of my four week stay). I don't think they've ever repeated a meal, except for spaghetti and even then it was different meat or vegetable toppings. The staff is amazing, especially the techs and the house manager (Gretchen) at Cliffside Malibu Access (one of several different Cliffside locations. The view is stunning all day long and is therapeutic in and of itself. I think if you come here with reasonable expectations you will be more than satisfied. Remember, you're coming to a six bed facility, so personalities are going to come into play. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the other clients, but I love meeting new people in general. The weekly massage is awesome and I look forward to it. Yoga is also very relaxing and Brian and Alison are awesome teachers. Alison also provides the weekly soundbath, a truly unique, healing experience if you aren't familiar with it. They keep the groups to a minimum and I appreciate that. You meet with your personal therapist, case manager, and after care manager once a week as well. The therapist might be more often if you need it. The beds are super comfortable and are changed often. You can send your laundry out almost every day and get it back in 24 hours, cleaned and wrapped. It's all included. You go on beach walks and Cliffside even buys the Starbucks for the trip home from the beach. You are only minutes from the beach by car. The view from the cliff is amazing. I will miss hanging out here a lot. Oh, you also go to a movie every Sunday, and it's all covered by Cliffside, even your concessions. They go above and beyond, at least above and beyond my expectations! Remember, though....you're in rehab with people in various stages of detox and recovery. As long as you're open and empathetic to that, you'll love it here. read more

It is the people of Cliffside Malibu that make it great. It is easy to believe there is a God when you are so close to heaven... ...and, when you are watched over by angels. The staff, from housekeeping to the program directors pour care, attention, and compassion into clients through the tasks they complete with diligence, dignity, and in harmony. The techs, responsible for the vast majority of tasks, in relation to clients, are saints. Saints are not perfect, not without sin, but they strive to be the best vessels of humanity, and it is just that, the best of humanity, that can be found in Malibu Cliffside's army of sobriety saviors. The facilitators of groups are wise and present, offering their time, space, and experience to the benefit of clients willing to accept the grand act of kindness. Mental and physical health staff work tirelessly to provide the highest level of safety to optimize growth. The human beings offering massages, acupuncture, sound baths, music, and art groups weekly should be nominated for Nobel Peace Prizes. As disconnection is the common denominator in addiction, Cliffside Malibu does an exceptional job in cultivating community, by offering a variety of activities to participate in, such as beach walks, sober outings to local attractions and the movies, and meetings. The amenities at the campus I was fortunate enough to reside were posh and plentiful. Many early mornings I spent exercising my demons to the point of exhaustion in the gym, where a personal trainer was capable and willing to help me with the exorcism. Yoga was offered on a beautiful deck overlooking a Malibu canyon, by an instructor who seemed to only see the best in clients. Many late nights were spent playing Pickleball with my peers, laughing and connecting on a wonderfully maintained tennis court. All hours of the day and night, many of my counterparts and I swam in the heated pool, or gleefully soaked in the hot tub, allowing our worries to melt away. The food was so plentiful, well-prepared, and balanced that I put on what is called "The Cliffside 15", but by the time I left, it was closer to the Cliffside 40... ...And, gratefully. A home-cooked meal is only good when the home is whole. The special ingredient, love, found its way into every dish served. I learned a level of care I didn't once believe I was worthy of. If I was to compress all of my experiences at Cliffside Malibu into one word it would be: value. Value is the regard that something is held to deserve; importance, worth, or usefulness of something. If you or someone you love has forgotten, or perhaps... were never shown their value... give Cliffside Malibu an opportunity to prove how priceless we all are. Before arrival, I called the toll-free number and checked if they took BCBS. At the time, they did, but refused to get pre-approval for the inpatient stay until I arrived. I was very high and out of it, so I barely remember the checkin process. I do remember being picked up at the airport in a GMC Denali. Also, while you are in the office doing paperwork, staff members unpack your bags during the search for contraband. The next thing you know, all your belongings are neatly tucked away in the closet, dressers, and night stand. That was a very nice touch. I self referred to Cliffside and entered treatment in November of 2017. I experienced a very comfortable detox off of benzodiazepines and opiates with suboxone and phenobarbital. You are not required to participate in groups or any programming for the first three days. For the first few days, you are forced to give-up your electronics. That kind of sucks, but is tolerable. The staff was very nice, accommodating, and responsive to your needs and requests. They are very client-centered. More so if you are paying cash rather than utilizing insurance. I did notice a difference in the way clients were treated based on this factor. All med refills are handled by Kramer's, who charges a fee for delivery and repackaging pills into bubble pack mediset. This gets expensive and isn't usually covered by insurance. Again, the staff readily accepted my objection to this arrangement and picked up my prescriptions from the local CVS or Walgreen's. The day starts with coffee and breakfast, which are prepared by the chef. You also do a daily morning meeting where clients are informed of appointments, and staff goes over that day's schedule. Before group sessions start, depending on the day, you can participate in yoga or exercise with a trainer. There are two group sessions that are facilitated by art therapists, "Rock to Recovery," psychologists, and other process groups. Snacks and soft drinks are available throughout the day. The group sessions are split by a lunch break, again prepared by the chef. Occasionally, you are scheduled for a massage, reiki, a session with you psychologist, or other therapeutic sessions throughout the week. I always looked forward to the 60-minute massage every week. There are generally AA/NA meetings available to attend, offsite. Drivers take you there and are also there as sober support while away from the facility. The chef also prepares dinner every evening. That day's left overs are available in the client refrigerator if you get hungry later or miss a meal because you were out. Staff takes the clients to the movies once a week. There aren't theaters in a Malibu, so this usually involves a 30-60 minute drive to Thousand Oakes. They also cover the cost of up to three items from the concession stand! Over all, Cliffside offers an excellent inpatient experience. This was my first rehab facility, and I have yet to find one that compares. Individual results, obviously, will vary. I relapsed, so I've been to a few other facilities. When you go to Cliffside, please try to relax and completely focus on your recovery. It's a great place to do so, as you don't have to do chores, and all your needs are met here. Best of luck in your recovery! read more

My experience with Cliffside Malibu (Access House) was primarily extremely positive. I decided I needed help as I saw my life and well-being deteriorating rapidly, and made the decision to get help and am very glad I did. I wanted to go somewhere as far away from my home as possible - and CM was it. This was my first time (and last time) in rehab and the therapists, groups, and care was top-tier. While I have nothing to compare it too - I felt they truly did care for me and want me to succeed. One thing that is a bit misleading is from their website you don't really know which house you are staying in as they have 9+ houses in Malibu, so that part I wasn't a fan of as I thought it would have a pool, and more things to do - but they have cash pay houses which are extremely expensive and that is what you see on the website. The views from Access House are incredible - but the inside was mediocre in terms of amenities and condition of the house. I didn't let this bother me as other patients did, because my sole purpose in going was to treat my substance use and I wasn't going to let a 'less-than-pristine-shower' affect my treatment. I was taught and learned about how to utilize many coping methods and how to always be cautious with my addiction. I believe their teachings are very practical and made a lot of sense to me. If you go to Cliffside with an open mind and an earnestness to get clean and stay clean - I feel sobriety is not only a possibility - it is the ONLY option. So thank you to all the therapists, doctors, the office staff, the housekeepers & cooks, and everyone else that made my stay as comfortable as possible. I feel a new sense of excitement about what my life can and will be and if you are on the fence - just try it! Give yourself a chance at a better life. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! read more

Overall mixed feelings with Cliffside. Therapy was about the only plus along with decent RA staff. One house mate was obviously high my last week there. Another was violently mistreating staff members. The food made me sick several times and I was forced to order Uber eats several times during my stay which was unfortunate as Malibu is extremely expensive. It seemed the staff was aware of the deterioration of the environment but it went overlooked. I felt extremely unsafe my last week but I worried leaving AMA could result in loss of my job or huge uncovered medical bill. Do better. Very little to say other than my therapist was the only help I got there. The rest was subpar. read more

I cannot even fully express what a life changing program this was for me. From the excellent detoxing to the continued day to day treatment and attention to detail for each clients needs. The residential advisors, housekeeping service, chefs, and all the therapists and support staff excel at what they do and make it easier to focus on yourself and recovery. The structured program is truly life-changing and teaches you to have confidence and take control of your life and sobriety. The therapists are the best ever!!!! I'd like to address some of the negative reviews that I read..... I'm guessing those people weren't ready to accept help and didn't stick around long enough to see reap the rewards. And yes.... possibly you don't like every single meal that's prepared..... but if you talk to the chefs they will accommodate what you desire and appreciate recommendations...... And it couldn't get any more convenient to come back from group therapy and walk into your clean room with your bed made, things straightened up, and your folded, clean laundry that went out the day prior! Then go to the kitchen with a buffet of food waiting for you. Sometimes, the chefs even come into your kitchen to prepare you omelettes or pastas, etc right in front of you exactly how you like it! read more

Hated this place! I stayed 5 days & left. They didn't listen to my needs. The pool isn't used bc patients were hooking up. The massage therapist & acupuncturist told me to go home bc of how sick I was getting. They lied to my husband & told him not to pick me up, that I was just detoxing, it was normal. They told me I'd want drugs as soon as I turned the corner. I detoxed at home with my drs help. it's been over 4 years now, totally clean. Their patients stole from me,too! Don't trust the inmates. They were heroine addicts. They manipulated my marriage! They act like they know you but they are only looking at the high price you pay. Go stay at the Ritz, get your dr to write the detox rxs, see a therapist & save about $70k. Nothing stolen, no head trips. read more

I am not one to write many reviews on yelp, but for Cliffside, I felt it was a must. About 2 years ago, my sister had minor surgery, something we thought we would never have to worry about or think about again, till she got home. After the surgery, she got dependent on prescription pain meds. Thankfully, after a lot of research, many tours of other facilities and phone calls, we found Cliffside Malibu. Besides the knowledgeable staff we chose cliffside because we had hope that being in such a beautiful facility with such a gorgeous view would give her hope, something she would like to wake up to every day and literally give her a breath of fresh air. I went to visit her in the facility many times and the staff was ALWAYS so personable, friendly and honestly did not make it feel like a treatment center, but a place to rehab her mind, body and soul. They offer incredible amenities and they were all worth it, every penny. I not only have my sister back, but my nephews have their mom back and I honestly feel it could not have been done without Cliffside. read more

My good friends are like family to me and to me, family comes first. When it became evident that neither myself nor fellow friends or family members could help, I joined the effort to get one of my best friends the professional help that we could not provide. After a lot of research, calling around, and more research, we found Cliffside Malibu. Let me just say that at first glance, this place was gorgeous. It overlooks the ocean and exudes luxury. It just seemed, on a first impression basis, as somewhere my friend could find peace and serenity while working through this very serious problem. The staff was super professional, welcoming, and put us at ease. I can honestly say that after having spent his time at Cliffside Malibu, my friend is doing much better and has the staff and environment to thank for that. [AMENDMENT January 17, 2017] I received notice that Cliffside Malibu is trying to sue me for defamation. I say... bring it on! [AMENDMENT March 11, 2017] I still haven't heard anything more on the lawsuit. It appears Cliffside Malibu Rehabilitation is all bluff and no action! You can't bully me the way you bully and deceive the poor people you bilk money from every day. I am ready to bring everything I said to court and prove that your so-called "rehabilitation facility" is all about the quick buck. And, the next time you threaten me with a lawsuit having the cajones to use your name, that will at least legitimize the threat, whatever your name is Mr. CEO. I'm here, are you ready to put up or shut up? __________ I can unequivocally advise that Cliffside Malibu Rehabilitation is all about the money and couldn't care less about the patients and their wellbeing. I will give you two examples, and you can determine for yourself whether to believe anything that Cliffside Malibu Rehabilitation (in particular, Andy or Andrew Bick, Director of Admissions) tells you. First, on my initial conversation with Andy Bick, September 21, 2016, he gave me a one-hour ultimatum to either sign a personal guarantee for my daughter or she would be asked to leave the following day. When I asked Andy [Andrew] Bick why my daughter was initially allowed to stay (before I even knew she was there), he told me that he didn't know whether my insurance was "In Network" or not. I have since verified that this was a flat-out, bald-faced lie since Cliffside Malibu Rehabilitation is not "In-Network" WITH A SINGLE INSURANCE CARRIER, period. Two, after only a few weeks at their facility my insurance carrier declined further treatment, as I knew would happen because of the excessive cost of $3,000 and more per day. Upon calling Mr. [Andy or Andrew] Bick, who I already distrusted because of his cold, and uncaring attitude, he told me: "we're running a business here." Yes, I agree, it is a business, and they have every right to make money, but not by deceiving potential clients. I told Andy Bick, "thank you" and hung up as his curt manner and sullen personality. I guess Mr. Bick didn't like how I abruptly ended the conversation even with my "thank you." He made it a point to call back, not say a word, and hang up on me. How old is this man? How immature of an Admissions Director to act in such a way? I could have guessed this would have been his way of dealing with an adverse situation. I don't know about you, but a Director of Admissions (and principle) that lies and acts the way Andy Bick does speak volumes about Cliffside Malibu Rehabilitation. They took my daughter in for a few weeks to get the quick bucks ($2,000.00 per day that my carrier paid) and when it ran out, they wanted her gone. She's no better off now than when she entered three weeks ago. Be careful before you decide to use Cliffside Malibu or bring a loved one. And, know in advance that if you make a choice to use Cliffside Malibu as your rehabilitation facility be prepared to spend more than $3,000.00 per day. POOR discharge planning!!! I was told to pickup my son or "he would be dropped off at my home in a taxi cab". This facility dropped the bomb when it came to preparing an adequate transfer plan that would keep my son safe. Would never recommend this facility based on our experience! He was only there 4 days and every day I called to check on him he was "doing great". The morning I got a positive summary of his day, a few hours later there was a dire emergency call for me to pick him up. When I expressed my concerns about my own safety in picking him up, all of a sudden the owner and the executive director stated there was no danger, he was "fine". Yet Cliffside was unwilling to keep him an additional night while I tried to find a Transfer facility for him ON MY OWN. I have made greater than five attempts to collect medical records with a consent for release signed and still have yet to obtain these documents. Perhaps these records don't even exist or something is trying to be hidden from our family? The left hand did not appear to be speaking to the right hand. Initial staff members who did his intake had completely flat affects and no personalities. They seemed as if they needed treatment themselves. This should've been my red flag not to admit him. Perhaps this place could work as a sober living home but definitely NOT as a rehab!!!!! read more

My daughter went there because it was the best insurance could pay for..I knew it was a bad place when I watched their video & they claimed 1 time guaranteed.Trust me I'm not new to rehab,first off they give them their cell phones back after only 72 hours.Second,they give you drugs to get off of drugs.But they would not issue her her bi-polar meds.The counselors seemed to let the patients dictate how to rehab for example,she conned them into letting her leave after 10 days to "take care of personal business".Guess who she called,her junkie boyfriend to pick her up.When I asked the therapist all she said was"she's an adult & we can't control what they do".What do you think is gonna happen when you give a detoxing addict a phone?duh... At $60,000.00+ a month,YES you heard right,you would think they would think they had a good program.I smell something on that cliff other than the ocean. read more

Cliffside Malibu helped save my life. I couldn't get off heroin and suboxone. As soon as I arrived at Cliffside I recognized that it wasn't an ordinary rehab. The accommodations, food, and amenities were amazing. I immediately felt comfortable and happy with the staff. I made friends easily with the other clients. I had an attentive and experienced doctor who helped ease my withdrawal. Mostly, however, I was helped by the groups. The counselors and therapists who ran the daily groups were by far the most intuitive, knowledgeable and caring clinical staff members I have experienced in a residential setting (and I have been in A LOT of rehabs). An absolutely amazing place to be for someone who wants to end their addiction once and for all. Outstanding staff who always go way above and beyond what their job descriptions consist of. I was at cliffside for almost a year. Started in detox/residential, then to sober living through php, Iop then op. As every rehab facility there's ups and downs but for me it was wonderful for the most part. I'm not upscale I had insurance, if you learn how to play their game you'll definitely get the most out of it. The groups are quite repetitive but the clients housing and most staff are great. They will take blue cross btw just depends on your policy (ppo, hmo) and what state your insurance is out of. read more

The cost here is insane! I can not believe how incompetent they were when I reached out. If you are a typical every day person they will try to send you to some "more affordable facility down the hill" that doesn't cost as much and has more clients/patients. Uh, I think not. To add insult to injury They stated that they absolutely needed a letter from a doctor in order to go further...bullshit. The person going has a great PPO plan and I guarantee nobody there now needed a note. If every person struggling with addiction needed a note to get help their census would be low af. Every facility has someone that they pay to do intake, run the insurance, and interviews. I have worked at a hospital with a CDU (Chemical Dependency Unit) and I clearly understand how intake works. Get it together and start focusing on helping people and not your insane profit margins. read more

Be advised - the charge to your insurance is twice what they quote as prices for cash patients. $58K for a shared room will come up to nearly $100K they will try to bill to your out-of-network PPO, minus the $38K co-pay. In retrospect, I would have been better off spending this investment on a year's worth of rent in a high-end sober living facility. But all in all, this was the first place I got any time together and eventually got to a good sobriety that is lasting -- now that I'm in a proper continuing care environment. You have to do the work yourself, no one else will do it for you. Counselor Adam was not very helpful. I needed a lot more pushing, wish they had me working with Donovan instead. If you do do this program -- ignore the celebs and rich folk, and make sure you go to the AA meetings every single night. Or just spend a fraction of the money at another program and go to AA there -- it'll work either way. Watch out for the owner, especially if your roommate is a professional athlete. He'll likely barge in unannounced while smoking a cigar to advise you need to erase all pictures on your cell phone before a paparazzi crew storms the driveway. Said athlete might also be allowed to bring a hookah to the facility, smoke it in the room you share with him and then leave on an electric coal warmer that pozes a firehazard -- and then leave to attend strip clubs off-site with no supervision by or consequences from the staff. Your new roommate might then be a heroin addict who sneaks in needles and manages to continue using for a week before he's caught. When he's been locked in the bathroom 7 hours, just push him out of the way with a broom -- if you poke him, he will roll over so you don't have to drag him yourself. Residents will likely find ways to engage in sexual encounters, usually in the garden area behind the Sunset house at the bottom of the long driveway. Fairly easy for residents to commingle. Many of the RA's are out-of-work entertainment industry people. My favorite was the indie filmmaker who's side project was "producing a documentary about treatment centers." He took footage with his cell phone of residents from within the facility and later included it in his film -- hopefully he got sued. Otherwise, owner likes to hire hot young girls who may or may not be in recovery. Not a bad thing I suppose, but lots of T&A isn't exactly helping me want to stay sober. Hm... anything else? Basically you can probably AirBnB a beach house and contract high-grade therapists, maids and wait staff to cater to you for a 30-day treatment at about half the cost of this program. Yelp photos are out of date. The main house really needs to be painted, the furniture is dirty and the tile work around the lap pool is chipping into pieces. And yes -- they do accept obnoxious celebrities at a discount in exchange for the publicity value. Wolves and wild animals in the neighborhood make kills and hunt in packs. Maid service is very nice. Food is pretty good. Pretty views of course. Next time I'll stick with AA. read more

I would NEVER recommend this rip-off. I went during my vacation from work, because I was dependent on sleeping medication and was very motivated to stop taking sleeping pills. I left after one week, as I felt it was a complete waste of time and money. I was told before I went I would see a doctor upon arrival. There was no doctor, but nurse Linda admitted me and wrote a very nasty, and untrue report. I was not given any medication to help me sleep, even though I had just flown in from Europe and was exhausted. My insurance was billed about $4,000 that night, and similar prices for FOR A WEEK. I thought I would be given care. The only care here is to bill your insurance billing. Even if there is NO care, they want you there ASAP so they can start racking up the billing. They also told me they needed my credit card for meds. I was charged $400 on my credit card for medication. For the week I stayed there I took 3 tablets of Adivan, and 1 doxipen. Four pills cost $400???? I have great insurance, and usually pay $1.00 for 30 pills. They lost my credit card as well and broke my phone. They said 'sorry we lost your credit card, just order a new one.' They did not care at all about the phone. It was working when they took it from me, but did not work when returned. They said it was my fault, even though I had not used the phone. The other residents also felt the only concern was billing insurance, and gouging people. I was told their success rate is very low. The staff is very unprofessional, and very condescending. If you go, ask to read your medical records. You will probably be as shocked as I was. You will have all kinds of things wrong with you that did not know exist. I was never scheduled to see a doctor until after 5:00 PM, Then I was told they could not fill my prescriptions because it was too late. They could not even get me Melatonin. $4000 per night and they can't get Melatonin???? The blame was always on me.,,,,,,,, everything is always the patients fault. I spent $2,000 of my own money for this nonsense. I suggest if you care about your health, stay as far away from here as you can. I stayed a week, and consider the experience a waste of vacation, and a waste of $2,000. Hope you all will make better decisions than I did. Leigh R read more

Cliffside residential is wonderful experience that truly treats every part of an addicts life. I went in scared to death and came out a new person. Of course they'd like everyone to stay as long as possible but I believe that is for the best. I've heard admissions can be pushy but I never experienced that. 90% of the facilitators are fantastic which is so important as you're in group therapy at least twice a day. My therapist denise is the best therapist, hands down, I've ever had in my entire life. You can find that you have a lot of free time on your hands and can get bored- this is no fault of cliffside. They have activities all day, every day to fill your time and address all areas of your life. These are optional so opting out can lead to boredom. The massages, reiki and acupuncture are wonderful and weekly. I'm almost six months sober and I owe it to cliffside. They still check on me!!! Two pieces of advice- if you're thinking about going, do it! Secondly- when you're there, listen. Don't fight them when it comes to treatment. Whatever you've been doing hasn't been working and they know what they're doing. Also, advocate for yourself. Demand the best treatment and you will get it!! read more

First..the good: Nice people took care of my husband there. Really good food. Nice comfortable rooms. Beautiful view. Next..the not-so good: There is NO "holistic" detox as they proclaim in their ad. I wished he was on herbs and supplements that would help him through this process but they only had him on a crappy multivitamin and B-1. They need a nutritionist there to work with addicts who have depleted their system of vitamins and neurotransmitters..but there is nothing. Also....this place is ALL about the money...but maybe they all are (??) Not helpful in getting insurance to pay for this at all.They just want their $50,000 and don't care about the impact it has on the person or their family. Their therapy is VERY AA-based .... so if your not into AA don't look here! The good news is that he's still sober after 5 months so something worked there...at least for us. read more

I went there to detox and for anger management which is contributed to my detox and withdrawals. I kept asking for a breakdown of my payments in a printed paper for three days. Since I was supposed to pay more than 30,000 out of pocket. They couldn't provide the paper and they tried to discuss the finances. When I said I do not feel like talking and I just need a paper when I'm paying that much I expect a clear breakdown in a single paper of the full price of my stay and how much my insurance is covering. They became defensive and that's when I said I am losing trust in the place. Then they provoked me while I'm detoxing by saying you know what (we don't need your money! and we won't print you any paper and you might leave as well.) This staff member spencer took it personal when I asked not to talk because I'm in a bad mood. I left the staff room to avoid escalation of the argument. This Spencer comes outside to start a new argument with me (how unprofessional) and then when I got angry and reacted to that situation, 5 minutes later, they kicked me out suddenly and left me to relapse and ruined my whole recovery. I left the place much worse than when I first came in! And they damaged me mentally by what they did to me. DO NOT EVER THINK OF APPLYING TO THIS UNQUALIFIED AND UNPROFESSIONAL PLACE! They don't know how to approach a person or how to handle situations. Even the nurses that were nice to me turned suddenly against me when they asked me to leave even though they were witnesses for what happened. They even called police on me for no reason while I was waiting for the UBER and asking for a refund of my remaining days. read more
