The guys have legend status. I mean the place is right off the highway (whew!), and they seem to work at a nice enough clip. So even if you notice a couple of cars in front of you, don't worry, they will handle you shortly. I went in for a slow leak. They patched it and then pointed out a bubble on another tire. They replaced that tire promptly and then sent me on my way. That extra bit of attention possibly saved my life and definitely saved my trip. The prices were very fair too.

I decided to take the next car I was going to buy off CL into the mechanic this time. Long story short, the guys here were AMAZING. Larry really took his customer service to the next level and I was extremely comforted knowing I was in good hands. He treated me like his own daughter and I really needed that. He had his master mechanic look over the car for me and they ended up saving me about 5,000 of repairs if I had bought this car (just shy of 9K including the car). Once again the guy off of CL said had "absolutely no problems." And they ended up giving me a ride home:) Best 100 dollars I've spent. Master mechanic was awesome, Daniel was awesome, Larry was awesome. I will definitely be making another visit soon.

I brought my gold 2008 Buick Enclave to Pep Boys Hamden on July 16, 2026 for emissions and a simple oil change. The emissions portion was quick, but I then spent about 4 hours waiting for what should have been a routine oil change. At the end of that long wait, Pep Boys claimed there was an engine oil leak and immediately tried to push me toward paying for a $200+ diagnostic. That did not make sense to me because the vehicle had recently been purchased and checked before purchase with no known engine or transmission issues. Less than 2 weeks after this supposed oil change, the "Change Engine Oil Soon" light came on. My team and I had to buy engine oil and add oil ourselves just to bring the oil level back to where it needed to be. That is shocking after paying for an oil change. The vehicle later began shaking, overheating, and showing warning lights. I took it to Monro for a second opinion, and Monro stated there was no engine oil leak. They also identified transmission-related issues and signs consistent with improper transmission-fluid interference and unauthorized transmission work/tampering. What stood out to me is that Monro did not try to take advantage of the situation. They were transparent, showed us the codes, explained what they saw, and even recommended a proper transmission specialist instead of trying to sell us a transmission job themselves. Based on my experience, Monro was a far better and more honest option. When I returned to Pep Boys, manager Bert's explanations kept changing. His own scanner showed transmission codes, warning lights came on during the drive, the vehicle began shaking again, and he ultimately concluded the car was no longer safe to drive. Even after seeing that himself, he still claimed Pep Boys had done a proper oil change and had nothing to do with the damage. As a woman, this experience made me feel targeted, dismissed, and taken advantage of. Bert's comments about the female technician/manager at another repair shop were misogynistic and offensive, and his treatment of me felt misogynistic too. I felt like Pep Boys believed I could be misled into paying for diagnostics or repairs I did not need. My warning to other women: BEWARE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Get a second opinion. Do not let Pep Boys pressure you into paying for diagnostics after they create or "discover" problems that were not there before. A female family member heard what happened and immediately said, "Why would you ever bring your car to Pep Boys? Pep Boys kills cars." Based on my experience, "Pep Boys Kills Cars" feels like an accurate warning. I have video evidence of the diagnostic codes, the Monro technician statements, and the interaction with Pep Boys staff. A formal legal notice is also being sent to Pep Boys demanding preservation of all camera footage, service records, diagnostic records, communications, metadata, and related evidence. I am willing to update this review if Pep Boys does the right thing: pays for the full repairs, refunds the failed oil-change service, reimburses related expenses, and provides a serious corporate response. Until then, my warning is simple: women should beware of Pep Boys Hamden and consider going to Monro or another transparent shop instead. The image shown is by the scanner showing over 20 transmission codes now. They also changed the comments in the receipts upon getting a printout when we came back on 8/1/26.
