Even after multiple phone calls and texts from myself and the warranty company. At this point we have to call another contractor to complete the work George was unwilling or unable to do.

In other words the heat pump wasn't working properly. Tristar was sent by the home warranty company to resolve a covered issue. However there were many uncovered issues with the HVAC system and I called Tristar to return to address them. Tristar returned, inspected and diagnosed the entire system, and informed me of their findings. My options were to either attempt to repair a unit close to the end of its service life or replace it. We chose to replace it with a larger and more efficient unit. Tristar did this quickly and professionally. I inspected the old unit when they got it out of the crawl space and it was a wreck in obviously horrible condition. Obvious moisture damage. After the installation, George Williams (the owner) strongly recommended that I install a dehumidifier and told me in no uncertain terms that without one I'd shorten the service life of the new unit. So I asked him to quote me a price. I was surprised when he said he didn't sell them. He was just letting me know that I had to have one! So, I got one and installed it. He also told me that the zone system controlling the ductwork was in bad shape and may need to be replaced but to wait to see whether the dehumidifier would correct the problem. It didn't, but the crawl space dried out. The zone system continued to malfunction so I called Tristar again. They replaced the zone system electronic components. The ductwork itself was fine. After the work was completed George informed me that the water filter on my well pump was a mess and needed attention. I didn't even know it had a filter! George is just that way. If he sees something that needs attention he tells you. He's observant and conscientious. No extra charge. In my experience Tristar is a good company, run by a good man. I cannot recommend them more highly. The new system works very well and was worth the expense.

We have been cool every since and the AC unit is still working properly and they were extremely affordable for all the work they did charging it after trying to locate the source of the leak. Then I got in contact with the receptionist again who told me it was on backorder. How something can go from "out to delivery" to "on back order" makes no sense to me. I found Ace and asked them to help us avoid the rewiring, and bypass the switching system. They installed new wireless switches and in-line receivers to control all the overhead lights in 8 rooms. It worked perfectly and at a very small fraction of what rewiring would have cost. Chad and his crew were very prompt and professional, knowledgeable and service-oriented. Everyone that I dealt with in the office, from scheduling to billing, was great as well. Melton originally diagnosed our AC problem as a failed condenser fan motor and quoted approximately $1,020 for the OEM motor and installation. I purchased the correct OEM motor myself through an HVAC supply house for $177. The new motor did not fix the problem. Our compressor was still powering on without a call for cooling while the condenser fan would not run. An independent HVAC technician subsequently believed the new motor itself was bad. Melton technician Kaine later came out to troubleshoot. He bypassed the control board and connected that same motor directly to 240V. The motor SPUN, then smoked and failed during his testing. Kaine told me he believed the control board was likely the actual problem. To his credit, he apologized and told me he wanted Melton to reimburse us for the motor. He said they would "make it right." Management refused. Service Supervisor Erin Maldonado instead emailed that Melton would refund our $100 diagnostic fee and "part ways with [me] professionally," adding: "Your lack of compassion toward our company wide situation has further solidified this decision." I had expressed condolences regarding what the company was going through. My disagreement was about responsibility for an AC repair--not anyone's personal circumstances. General Manager Jamie Klink then defended the decision, stating the motor had been "deemed dead on arrival" and writing, "You cannot kill something that is already dead." For transparency, an independent technician had believed the motor was bad. But during Melton's subsequent visit, I personally watched that same motor spin when it was connected directly to power. It then smoked during the test. Kaine witnessed this and offered to reimburse us. Klink also wrote: "I do understand trying to save as much money as you can in today's world. Sometimes it pays off and other times it does not. Unfortunately, the odds were not in your favor this time." The money I was "trying to save" was the difference between Melton's approximately $1,020 quote and the $177 I paid for the correct OEM motor. As it turns out, the odds WERE in our favor. We obtained another OEM motor AND the replacement control board ourselves and installed both. The AC immediately began operating correctly and has continued doing so. I understand Melton doesn't warranty customer-supplied parts. I wasn't asking them to warranty my motor. I was asking them to take responsibility for what occurred during their technician's troubleshooting. Mistakes and misdiagnoses happen. What I cannot accept is how management handled the situation afterward, particularly bringing my perceived level of "compassion" into a legitimate service dispute. This could have ended over a $177 motor. Their technician wanted to make it right. Management chose not to. They refunded my $100 diagnostic fee and decided to "part ways." Started calling around at 7pm trying to get someone to come out since guests were expecting a cool place to sleep that night and unit was blowing air but not cold. Called main number and my number was passed along to a technician. I figured I wouldn't get a call back until Saturday but Kyle returned my call within 15 minutes. Asked what the problem was and let me know it would cost about $137 for him to just go out there. I decided to take the gamble. He headed out there ASAP and called me as soon as he was finished (within 20 minutes of arrival). He had a full report as to what was wrong. He was able to fix without ordering any parts and got the place cooled and ready to go. Kyle was a pleasure to work with and I was so impressed with the prompt service.
