Steve just completed a rather large installation at our residence and I'm please to report that it all went surprisingly smooth. Not only did Steve and his team have to install 29 panels but they also had to upgrade my main electrical service, as it was not large enough to pass inspection. Steve took care of all permits and interactions with the city and with PG&E. He kept me apprised of everything along the way and answered all of my questions and concerns quickly and thoroughly. In our first meeting with Steve, he arrived with comprehensive information, including recommendations for our particular roof. (A meeting with another larger company was not nearly so prompt or thorough.) Steve also personally checked the condition of our roof prior to installation. I chose (based on faith, I did my detail due diligence on solar renewable energy systems before meeting anyone) Solar Pro on Yelp because of the excellent reviews (decided to pick the underdog 2nd most popular best 5stars review) the company had received and they sure exceeded my expectations. I first met with Steve (at a Target store and not knowing he was THE Solar Pro owner), and was immediately impressed with his knowledge and ability to explain every aspect of the technology and installation process in great detail (I did my homework and wanted to do a check on important stuff), but without getting too technical. Steve even invited me to a BBQ he had for his workers while they installed a solar system Solar Pro donated to a local preschool. Not only did Solar Pro do a great job on a charity installation, but Steve smoked some amazing ribs and chicken. Solar Pro did an excellent job on my solar system as well. We have an old, non--conforming tile roof. We were at a loss as to whom or where we should turn for solar. Steve was recommended and came up with a very workable solution. He removed 950 ft.² of tile and installed composition shingles, upon which he mounted the solar panels. Solar Pro installed our 8.5kW system at our home in San Carlos. We chose to work with Steve because he was knowledgable but more importantly it was clear that he would take responsibility and ownership over the project and ensure it was done well. I also was pleasantly surprised that his team uses the mounting system that I had researched for my type of roof that was more secure/proven and would be less likely to have leak issues etc. There were other larger / national providers who would have been cheaper, but with a Spanish tile roof I was not willing to take chances with a poor install causing leaks. In addition, I had seen prior examples of lazy installations where they run electrical conduit all over the facade of the home - aesthetics matter too. Steve's team did a nice job and was finished ahead of schedule. Things rarely are that smooth...and I turned out to be right. When it was time to get permission to operate the solar array and get interconnected, PGE managed to screw up our paperwork and somehow mixed it with another project. Steve was relentless in chasing them down can called multiple times to sort it out for us. Once that was resolved, PGE came back and said they thought they needed to perform a transformer upgrade which would take 6 months or more. Steve helped me continue to chase down people within PGE to explore other options (eg running the system at lower capacity) and after calling / emailing for multiple weeks we magically got permission to turn the system on at full capacity after all. Going solar was not a straightforward process, but our experience with Steve and Solar Pro made it more palatable. He takes ownership over the project and helps drive it to get done - that's what you're paying for.
