I reviewed Sole ~3 years ago and have been there multiple times (3-4) since then and we have enjoyed our meals. We recently visited Sole again, so I figured it's time for another review. Ambiance: Sole continues to offer an ambiance that you won't find elsewhere in SIC. It's a cool BYOB. Service: Waitress (and runners) was great, very friendly and knowledgeable. Both appetizers and entrees took a long time to come out. A couple of folks at my party mentioned they weren't all that hungry once the entrees came, but no worries, a good bit of take-home. Food: Artichokes - a long-standing menu item here at Sole; however, the execution seems to have changed dramatically (see my previous review for the old pic). The dish is now somewhat heavy and soggy and lacked what we came to love about the dish. It used to be light, crispy, fresh, and the sauce was light but very flavorful. Ok, but not exceptional like before. Oysters Rockefeller: $23 special These were pretty good, but not really a true rockefeller due to longhots. Always love a good oyster, but between price and execution, prob wouldn't get this one again. Appreciate branching out though. Steamed Clams (white): Good clams and great sauce although the clams were not cleaned /soaked/brushed well at all as there was a lot of black grit in the bowl, it changes the bright, clean taste to a cloudy flavor. Wild Boar Veal Pappardelle: Excellent pasta, however, aside from one small chunk of veal, the dish was largely ground meat and not all that much. It came out piping hot although the overall depth of flavor was lacking. (The white lamb dish outshines this special by far) Crab gnocchi: Excellent gnocchi. Unfortunately, the crab was fishy and the dish overall was very salty versus the sweet lump crabmeat flavor that makes a dish like this shine. We really like Sole and the owner usually comes over to the table to ask for feedback, but didn't do so on this night. We'll be back at some point again (maybe a pizza and wine night) because we really like it here. Hopefully this was just an off night. I know it's hard to run a great restaurant and I love supporting all the great SIC ones - cost/prices are high, but it's also important to execute. At the shore for a week. Stopped in for a meal at this place that we have heard many good things about. Bronzino and crab cake starter for me. The fish was delicious with a puttanesca sauce on the side. There were a few bones in there. They offered to serve a whole fish or filet it before serving. I went with the filet. I get it fish have bones but the filleting could have been a bit better. A byob. We were six and brought two whites and a red. It was 545pm on a Tuesday we were the second group in the place. By 615pm the place was packed. Ambiance is a shore restaurant with clean lines and an open kitchen. We had our grandson 19 mos. He was a hit with the chef and servers. We would return. Sole is one of our go-to restaurants when we're in town, however we were disappointed tonight as we always look forward to coming here. Our server was originally quick to come to our table and opened our wine and got us drinks- after we ordered, we never got bread and finally had to flag down another server and then just got bread (no butter or olive oil- nothing..)Our meal was delicious, both our appetizers and dinner; however my husband's stuffed long hots were completely cold and we felt his gnocchi entree didn't have a lot of crab meat for the $ of the entree. It was so busy it didn't seem worth it to send back. My salad and entree were very good. Our server was so sweet and was working really hard, but we also observed that she was all of the place, so trying to get her attention was difficult. It is early in the season, so perhaps the staff is just coming up to speed, so we will be back for another try! read more

Came here with some gfs for girls weekend at sea isle and to also celebrate my best friends birthday. She chose this place since the food and environment looked nice and appetizing. Unfortunately we found ourselves waiting for our food for about an hour, didn't get our drinks or bread for 15-20 mins as well. We were told they only had two servers on and very little amount of people in the kitchen even though it was a saturday night. By the time we got our food we assumed it also took long because it would be fresh however my pasta and chicken were cold, dry and didn't even find myself to eat much so I asked for a box, the french fries and burger were cold, the bun tasted old, and the brussels sprouts weren't appetizing at all the flavor and the sauce were overpowering. I was really excited to try this out since we only go to sea isle twice a year and like to try new places around, sad to say that this wasn't the best experience specially for the paying price of the food. read more

Service was very good. The Roman Artichoke appetizer was very good. The bread and dip were also very good. My chicken parm with vodka sauce could have been better. The chicken was very salty, tough and dry, and the pasta was significantly overcooked. The other main course at our table was Chicken Saltimbocca. The veal was okay but the sauce tasted more like a brown gravy not the buttery, wine reduction, lemon, and sage we've become accustomed to and the prosciutto wasn't crispy it was thick and overcooked. My partner returned the dish and had barely touched it. The owner removed it from our bill which was not expected but very nice. We'd like Sole to be better since it's close by and we want our restaurants in Sea Isle to succeed. read more

A group of 8 guys took an hour and 45 minutes to get food, food came out super underwhelming. Shrimp mac and cheese barley had cheese on it and the other pasta, the noodles were very under cooked and had a gum texture. Absolutely ridiculous for the price as well. No complaints about the server or the restaurant as a whole. But very overwhelming for a $300+ check. read more

Great service and tbe staff was friendly and pleasent. The apps were great but rather have my steak without sauce. Still really good.

Despite being short staffed (beginning of off-season), we were well taken care of! Our server was working her butt off to make sure everyone had what they needed. The burrata was amazing, and my paparadelle with bolognese was perfect. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication with one of the pizza specials and my husband's dinner was not as ordered. I mean, W O W. How lucky the three of us were to score dinner reseys for this place cause did we win with everything we got, or what?!? Apps- free bread with a tomato dip that was so savory, bold but not overwhelming and a smidge of heat. The eggplant rolotini, ta die for!! The total STAR of the night. With its rich and full bodied marinara that I almost licked the plate of. The Roman Artichokes, so light and flavorful. Fritto Misto... unreallll! Crispy, not over dressed and that tartar sauce... YUMMO. Entrees didn't disappoint- sister 1 had the Wild Boar Bolognese special and I thought she was gonna pass out, it was that good. Sister 2, the swordfish special that she, of tiny stature, ate the whole thing!! I had a Caesar with the duck fat fries side as a chaser.. super good! Dessert- we did the Sole Kiss, which is almost like a chocolate and marshmallow stuff beignet with vanilla gelato-- (I*LOVED!!!) and the special Peach Cobbler which the other two gobbled right up. I literally cannot wait to go back there to eat. I wish I could go there more often than just our yearly girls weekend pilgrimage. We met almost the whole staff- completely impressed with the flavors they built. Ray cooking it all up in the back, the owner Frank, who was such a super kind hearted, hardworking and humble food runner in this jam packed restaurant, who credited all the sumptuous food delight to his amazing wife and their on the ball, thoughtful, totes cool vibed daughter, Valentina, who was legit doing the tough service work of 5 servers and hostess! I recommend patrons to be patient. All the food is cooked from scratch, clearly made with love and extremely well worth the wait. By far, the best restaurant in Sea Isle! Skip Anthony's and go here instead ! We had the fried green tomatoes with crabmeat for an app - amazing. I had the Napoli hot chicken - to die for - the sauce was sooo good. My husband had the special pasta with scallops and shrimp and he loved it. The owner was talking to all of the patrons and told us about the new brunch menu. We will be back! This is a must go restaurant ! read more

Tried this new spot out last night with friends and happy that we did. A newcomer to the south end and a welcome one at that. Good was excellent all around. Service was very good, although it's apparent they are still working on smoothing out their timing, but it didn't affect us at all as we had appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Overall one of my favorite meals on the island in the last few years. A little more casual than A Modo Mio, but fresh, bright, and clean. I will return. read more

Our party of nine had an early reservation on a Saturday night, and received wonderful attention. Every entre was deemed delicious by all. We shared appetizers around the table, and the Fried Roman Artichokes were particularly delicious. Some in our party had special dietary requests, which were met by the attentive staff and family. Terrible. We had a reservation and sat there for about 10 minutes. The waitresses came by our table about four times and said nothing to us. They weren't even busy, they have no idea how to run a business. The two hostesses were on their phones in the front. They had no idea we got up and left. Very poorly run. read more

Great spot on the south end of the island. They did a great job creating a welcoming atmosphere. Menu has many diverse choices and their list of specials is practically another whole menu. The owner Frank truly cares about the guests having a good experience. No other restaurants in the area provide let alone excel and old school service. It's BYOB, and worth every penny! read more
